With very warm wishes,
All the Team at Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines
It’s your time now. It’s time to satisfy your wanderlust and eagerness to experience the wonder of our world. Time to ‘throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbour, catch the trade winds in your sails and explore, dream, discover’.
175 years ago, three brothers in a small town on the shores of Oslofjord in Norway also wrestled with a spirit of adventure. It led the Olsen family to buy their first ships and set about discovering the world.
Today, we are proud of how far we have sailed.
But our pride is not just in the extraordinary places in every corner of the globe we take our thousands of treasured guests. It’s in how we take them there too.
We have always been committed to what our guests like to call ‘cruising as it should be’. From the moment you throw open your cabin curtains to a beautiful sunrise or emerge on deck to another stunning vista, everything is geared to make your day exceptional.
Our accent is on elegance, a sense of occasion, excitement, sociability, warmth and conviviality. Our people take great pride in their personal, attentive service where, for our guests, nothing is ever too much.
Our ships are big enough to ensure a great variety of rewarding on board experiences. But small enough that your cruise with us always feels friendly and personal. And our itineraries are designed afresh every year to make sure you see not only the world’s most amazing destinations but at the very best possible times to see them.
In Norway, we have a saying, ‘I det beste selskap’. It means ‘In the best of company’. It’s how we want you to feel from the moment you embark on a Fred. Olsen cruise. That you’re welcome, valued and looked after. But as well as travelling in the best of company, we want you to know that you’re also travelling with the best of companies.
Because on a Fred. Olsen cruise, 175 years of experience goes into making every single day special.
Our way of developing itineraries is rather different from that of others in the cruise industry and it begins years before the cruise even sets sail.
Our Journey Planners start their process months in advance by looking at what's happening in the world... What’s opening up? What’s coming up? Where could we go that gets off the beaten tourist track to show our guests something they haven’t seen before? What waters could we sail? What islands could we take in? What’s the very best time of year to visit certain places to catch the leaves, or see the stars, or take in a beautiful wildlife migration?
Because we sail smaller ships we are lucky enough to be able to travel different routes and get in to waters that others can’t, often reaching places some lines can’t get to.
Each year, we create a whole new programme of itineraries on that basis, designed especially to travel new routes and waterways or take-in special events or phenomena happening in the world.
Our Journey Planners also put a lot of time and thought into ‘scenic cruising’– seeking out the most interesting coastlines and beautiful sites. We love to visit incredible islands or sail epic waterways or get up close to spectacular coastal scenery.
In our home waters of Norway, we like nothing more than showcasing the incredible and intricate beauty of the fjords. With our deep knowledge of this country’s history and coastline, we can deliver a fjord experience that’s so much more informed and imaginative than most.
We are very proud that, as a result of the effort and specialism we give to itinerary planning, we have been voted Best for Itineraries five times by Cruise Critic.
On the next page, we have pulled out what we think are some of the really exciting and special itinerary highlights that we have coming up for 2024 and 2025.
The Perseid meteor shower is one of the most dramatic events to take place in the night sky. It’s the highlight of many astronomers’ calendars because, when the sky is at its darkest after midnight, it is filled with shooting star after shooting star. Our cruise on Balmoral is designed especially to be in the Azores when the shower is at its peak and the meteors are at their brightest. Find out more on page 51.
This is a really wonderful 82-night journey, especially curated to reach Mumbai in time for the fascinating and colourful Holi festival. Every part of the itinerary reaches somewhere amazing… Alexandria in Egypt, Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, Colombo in Sri Lanka, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam and the incredible temples of Angkor Wat in Cambodia. See it all on page 32.
Those who have witnessed the bird migrations across the straits of Gibraltar report that it’s a truly incredible phenomena. The straits are at the point where Africa and Europe are at their closest and, every year, thousands upon thousands of birds make the sea crossing using uplifts and thermals to make their journey. Our cruise has been specially timed to see this amazing spectacle as untold thousands of birds of different breeds make their way south. Find out more on page 106.
For those who, like us, are fans of everything to do with ships and maritime traditions, there are two amazing events that happen in the Baltic each year – the Helsinki Tall Ships Race and Kiel Week, one of the largest sailing events in the world. For Kiel week, we have planned our arrival for the final day of the regatta. See page 99.
OUR FLEET OF
Over recent years, there’s been a trend in the cruising industry for ships to get bigger. But at Fred. Olsen, we are firm believers that smaller is better.
We are, and have been since 1848, a family-run business. And we are very proud to continue to fly the flag for the smaller ship experience.
That’s why we have three elegant smaller ships in our fleet and we work very hard to ensure that everything about each ship is beautifully designed and carefully done.
Life on board our ships is well known for a lovely feeling of warmth, friendliness, care and elegance. We are not ones for the resort-style of cruising,
Bolette proudly bears the name of Fred. Olsen’s Great Grandmother who was married to Petter Olsen, one of the three brothers who founded the Olsen shipping business in 1848. Her portrait features today in The Morning Light Lounge.
Bolette was acquired by the Olsen family in 2020. Our interior design team and on board ships craftsmen gave her exterior and interior a complete overhaul to meet our exacting Olsen standards. She is now beautiful both inside and out, and we are very proud to have her as our fleet flagship.
Her crest was inspired by the harbour-side buildings in Hvitsten in Norway where the Olsen family had an early trading house on the picturesque Oslofjord.
we avoid cutting corners, and don’t ever want things to feel mass-produced. Having a maritime history and heritage, we refer to port and starboard, forward and aft, and we call cabins, cabins and decks, decks.
Each of our three ships have lots of wide-open deck spaces, a series of incredibly comfortable bars and lounges, beautiful restaurants, theatres, libraries and a wonderful art collection curated by Fred. Olsen, art being a particular passion of his.

Balmoral is the smallest ship in our fleet and is well-loved by all our team and long-standing guests.
Even though she is small, Balmoral has wonderful facilities – six beautiful restaurants, seven bars and lounges, two pools and lovely open decks that are perfect for when she’s scenic cruising.
Her small size is a huge asset when it comes to crafting itineraries that get off the beaten track and into less visited ports and waterways. We use Balmoral to journey up rivers and right in to the heart of cities like Bordeaux, or transit spectacular but narrow waterways like the Kiel Canal.
Balmoral’s crest proudly replicates the British royal family’s Scottish residence Balmoral Castle, a nod to Fred. Olsen’s historic links with Scotland and where the family still have an estate today – now focused on sustainable forestry and renewable energy.

Sister ship to Bolette, Borealis also joined the fleet in 2020. Like all our ships, she was given a name beginning with B – Borealis is a reference to the Northern Lights and the family’s Norwegian heritage.
Just like Bolette, Borealis was completely re-decorated and re-furbished when she joined the fleet in order to meet the high standards of the Olsen family. She features a wonderful series of lounges, bars, wide-open deck spaces and elegant restaurants as well as 702 beautiful cabins and suites.
Being the fastest ship in the fleet, Borealis is perfectly suited to longer itineraries and she enables us to create some of our really epic Grand Voyages. As this brochure goes to print, for example, Borealis is sailing a particularly unique adventure following in the footsteps of Phileas Fogg, ‘Around the World in 80 Days’.

We believe that a cruise is very different from a holiday.
A cruise is about being out there on the ocean, exploring the world from the vantage point of the sea, enjoying the journey itself – not just the destinations.
On board every cruise, and alongside all the lovely food, drink, entertainment and activities you'd expect, we always have five Signature Experiences included:
While other cruise lines tend to take the fastest route from A to B, we prefer to follow the most fascinating route. We enjoy making the time to take in all the islands, ports, waterways, lochs, lakes, fjords and coastal landscapes that are out there, and to help our guests see and understand them. Out on deck, or from the comfort of our Observatory Lounge, our on-board team provide commentary, point out points and places of interest, tell stories of local people and culture, and help you spot marine and bird-life. On certain sailings, we travel with nature specialists from the whale and marine life charities, ORCA and Ocean Wildlife Encounters. They come on board to make sure that if there’s whales to see or dolphins to watch or other marine life to observe, our guests get to witness it.
Enrichment is very much a part of how we do things at Fred. Olsen. Our enthusiastic speakers are specially chosen to give our like-minded travellers a deeper understanding of the culture, history and people of the places that we are visiting. Talks take place in our dedicated theatre space with the opportunity for a good chat and Q&A after the event. We also host smaller lunches and sociable gatherings for those who have a special interest in a particular subject.
There’s no more delicious way to discover something of a country’s culture than through its food. So you will always find delicious regional dishes on the lunch and dinner menu in our restaurants. And our chefs host cookery demonstrations where local delicacies are prepared. Everyone attending is given a little taste and recipe to try for themselves when they return home. And, for a little evening treat, there’s always a Cocktail of the Day to enjoy as the sun goes down over the sea.
There is nothing quite like a sunrise at sea or looking up at the beauty of the night sky from the deck of a ship. On clear nights we host star-gazing experiences where you can sit back on the open deck, snuggled in a blanket with a hot chocolate or a toddy, and listen as we bring the night sky to life. On certain itineraries, we sail to seek the Northern Lights or witness the beauty of the midnight sun together.
The Olsen family’s history in shipping goes back to 1848, so we like to say that maritime is truly in our DNA. Join us for ‘an audience with’ the Captain or some of our crew, take part in discussion sessions about navigation and chart-reading or (for a small extra charge) take a behind-the-scenes tour to see the fascinating workings of the ship.
As well as our special Signature Experiences, there is a host of other treats to enjoy on board our ships.
There’s a really beautiful spa on board all three ships and it is very difficult to think of anything more relaxing than the experience we provide there. Floor to ceiling windows mean there are wonderful views of the sea to enjoy as you are pampered. Sit back and watch the wide skies and blue waters glide by as you’re looked after by our team of specialist beauticians, hairdressers and beauty therapists.
We really think our Fitness Centres must have some of the most spectacular views of any gym anywhere! On all three ships, they are located in incredible positions that mean whatever you are doing you are looking out at the sea and the sky beyond. There really is no more uplifting place to do a yoga or pilates class or a small group workout session.
Each ship has its own Theatre Company who proudly present live musical shows for our guests. They are joined by visiting professional artists, comedians, performers or illusionists to provide a really varied programme to keep you entertained through every day of your cruise.
On Borealis and Bolette we have a purpose built beautiful studio space dedicated to art, and to craft. It’s fully equipped with easels and art materials and the light is absolutely beautiful. Here you can take part in painting and drawing classes as well as learn new crafts like block-printing.
Live music and entertainment are a very important part of any cruise experience, and we take both very seriously. Every ship has its own House Band, and on every cruise we bring on board classical musicians, bands, singers and soloists who put on a wonderful programme of live music, performances and recitals. For those who love to dance, there’s a dance floor or two on every ship. We hold lots of classes, with Dance Hosts to accompany the proficient or to teach the steps for those who would like to learn.
Our entertainment team run a wonderful programme of activities throughout your cruise. Every day, they host traditional deck games like Quoits, Deck Tennis and Shuffleboard, lay-on fantastic quizzes and introduce light-hearted sociable classes. We have a dedicated card room for Bridge tournaments, and spaces to learn something new like joining a choir or even learn to play the Ukulele.
One of the real pleasures of sailing on one of our ships is the warm and welcoming atmosphere and the restful, easy elegance of the places and spaces on board.
We take particular care over our beautifully decorated sitting rooms, the comfortable and cosy bars and libraries and, for when the weather is good, wide open decks and outdoor spaces to feel the air and take in the view.
One of the prettiest and most peaceful places aboard our ships, The Oriental Tea Room is a lovely sitting room for enjoying a morning coffee, an elegant cocktail or for one of our rare tea-tasting experiences, hosted by specialist tea sommeliers. Decorated in beautiful soft colours and silks, our tea room is civilised and easy, the perfect place to write post-cards, to read a book, or to watch the world go by.
So many of our guests are lovers of nature, and cruise with us because they want to see and know more about the Earth, its environments and habitats, and the creatures that live in them. This special new library and lounge (on Bolette and Borealis) is dedicated to those interests. Here you’ll find a library of books, especially curated by Fred. Olsen, that explore life on Earth, the importance of environmental protection, and the wonders of nature.
One of the real joys of cruising is the feeling of being out at sea and looking out at the ocean and to the horizon beyond. So higher up on our ships, you’ll find The Observatory – a luxurious lounge, lined with panoramic windows and located directly above The Bridge, so you will have the same vantage point as our Captain and Officers while we are sailing. Here our guests come to enjoy the views of the expansive ocean or coastline that we’re passing, or simply sit back with the cocktail of the day.
Like the Earth Room, The Botanical Room is new for 2023 and, at the moment, located only on Bolette, our flagship. The Botanical is a beautiful and comfortable lounge that has been designed to inspire our green-fingered guests in the elegant surroundings of lush green and vibrant yellows. Here you’ll find magazines and books on the topics of gardening, flowers, plant care and the various flora species across our planet. The gorgeous plants and fresh flowers in the room bring a feeling of the outside, inside.
Every Fred. Olsen ship has a dedicated and specialist Galley Team dedicated to producing delicious meals, drinks and treats for our guests.
Every day this specialist team bake fresh bread, create mouthwatering dishes, devise new menus, develop lovely cocktails, aperitifs and after-dinner drinks, as well as serving up wonderful pastries, cakes and chocolates.
Every cup of coffee or tea from our Bookmark Café is served with a freshly baked shortbread biscuit or delicate macaroon.
Each of our ships has two or three beautifully appointed main restaurants. Here we serve delicious breakfasts as well as sumptuous five-course à la carte dinners every evening. During the day the dress code in all restaurants is casual. The evenings are usually smart-casual, apart from Formal Nights where everyone likes to dress up – cocktail dresses and black tie.
Colours and Tastes is our elegant new restaurant that specialises in Asian Fusion food. The food is fresh and fascinating –dim sum, seafood and delicately spiced meats, bright stir-fries and colourful signature dishes from China, Japan, Thailand and the Philippines.
Vasco is our speciality Goan restaurant serving an absolutely delicious take on Indian food. Named after the Portuguese explorer Vasco de Gama – the first European to reach India by sea – the menu has been designed by our chefs from Goa. Here, the culinary traditions blend the warmth and spices of India with European – and particularly Portuguese – influences. The result is a style of Indian food that centres on delicious grilled meat and seafood with fresh, bright, modern spicing.
For those who feel they would prefer a more relaxed experience, we have a brilliant buffet restaurant on each ship (The View on Bolette and Borealis and Palms Café on Balmoral ). Each buffet restaurant really does serve an absolute feast of delicious dishes every day. It is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner as well as for a tasty and complimentary afternoon tea with sandwiches, scones and cakes – all baked freshly on board.
All our cabins are beautifully designed with wonderfully comfortable beds and superior quality linen. And all our Housekeeping Team look after everything beautifully too.
We have a choice of cabins to suit the journey you’re on and the budget that you have. We have Interior Cabins that are excellent value. Then we have Ocean View cabins that have lots of light from picture windows or portholes. Next we have Balcony Cabins with lovely private balconies or terrace spaces for sitting out and looking out. And then we have Suites with all the interior and exterior space and all the extras.
For those of you who choose to treat yourself to the space and luxury of a Suite, there are some wonderful treats and extras that come as part of the package. You’ll have priority check-in when you come on board as well as a bottle of bubbles and basket of fresh fruit to greet you on arrival in your Suite. Every evening, we deliver a plate of delicious handmade canapes. There are bath robes and fluffy slippers for relaxing inside, as well as binoculars and a world atlas for looking out.
To keep things nice and simple in this brochure we have shown the prices of our Interior Cabins.

This will then be charged directly to your on-board account. For more information, visit our website, or contact Guest Services once on board.

Guests who choose a Saver fare can select their dining time and size of table for a nominal supplement in advance of cruising, or once on board (subject to availability). You will be allocated a table in the main restaurant for the duration of your cruise and the details will be in your cabin when you arrive.
Each evening, informal open seating is offered in our buffet restaurants, The View on Bolette and Borealis and The Palms Café on Balmoral. Each ship offers two, additional, speciality dining options, Colours and Tastes, and Vasco. A small cover charge applies to our speciality restaurants.
We will do our best to accommodate most dietary requests on board each of our ships. So, vegetarian, vegan, low fat, low cholesterol, low salt, dairy-free, lactose-free, wheat-free and gluten-free diets are all catered for.
For anyone with food allergies or intolerances, you will have the opportunity at the beginning of your cruise to meet with the Maître d’ or Executive Chef to discuss any additional requirements you might have.
We kindly request that you make us aware of any special dietary requests at the time of booking.

The amount (see our website for suggested amount) is not compulsory and can easily be altered by visiting Guest Services on board.
You are welcome to tip personally if you prefer. We are also pleased to offer the option of pre-paying your gratuities before your cruise. Please ask at the time of booking. Unlike some other companies, we can promise that every last penny is shared between the crew who look after you.

Having appropriate cruise insurance cover is a requirement for booking your holiday with us. Knowing you have comprehensive cover means you can relax and concentrate on planning the rest of your holiday. To help, we’ve provided three top tips for organising your cover.
TIP ONE:
To avoid any pitfalls it’s best to ensure your cover is specific to cruise holidays. Also, declaring all pre-existing medical conditions to your insurer will reduce your potential for financial consequences.
TIP TWO:
It is tempting to save money and opt for the cheapest holiday insurance. However, many policies have loopholes that will not provide cover for the exact circumstance in the claim. Be sure to investigate what’s covered in your policy.
TIP THREE:
Purchase your cover early
We advise you to get insurance organised for your forthcoming cruise as soon as you have booked. This will give you peace of mind that you are covered and protect your non-refundable deposit.
At time of going to print, it is a mandatory requirement for all guests to have comprehensive travel insurance that covers for Covid-19 related costs. Your policy must include cover predeparture in case you test positive for Covid-19 and are unable to board the vessel and have to travel home in a Covid safe car (Covid Cancellation & Curtailment Cover). In addition, the policy must include cover after departure to ensure that you are fully covered if you have to disembark the vessel at a port of call for medical treatment, isolation and travel back to your home (Covid Medical & Repatriation Cover).
OUR RECOMMENDED SUPPLIER: HOLIDAY EXTRAS
A cruise is a holiday unlike any other, and as such, it pays to be covered for all of its unique aspects. We have found that – from many years of working together – Holiday Extras provide excellent insurance cover for Fred. Olsen guests, with insurance policies that have specifically tailored cruise benefits.
For a quote, or to buy a policy, please give Holiday Extras' dedicated insurance specialists a call on 0800 0420 218 , quoting FOBR1 , or visit holidayextras.co.uk/fred
Visa and health requirements can change at any time. It is your responsibility to ensure that you check with a professionally qualified source and comply with such requirements. UK passport holders will need visas for certain Fred. Olsen cruise holidays and will be advised at the time of booking. Your cruise booking information will also detail any requirements applicable to your holiday.
CIBT, Fred. Olsen’s preferred visa provider, offer advice on specific visa requirements for your cruise holiday. For your convenience, CIBT’s online portal provides detailed visa information for specific cruises and visa application packs.
Visit, cibtvisas.co.uk/fredolsencruises or call 0207 593 6223 and quote ‘Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines’, ref ‘FREDOLS’
Similarly, travel vaccinations can be required when visiting some parts of the world. Your GP can offer advice, or you can contact the Medical Advisory Services for Travellers Abroad (MASTA). General travel advice is available from the UK Government at: gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice
Once you have chosen your cruise, you only need to take a few steps before you can begin looking forward to your holiday.
1. We need just a few details to confirm your booking
Your full name as it appears on your passport; date of birth; home address; e-mail address and contact telephone number are all details we will need when you book. Please also have this information for any guests travelling with you.
2. Don’t forget your cruise insurance and to check if visas are needed
Please ensure you have appropriate cruise insurance cover; it’s a mandatory requirement for sailing with us. Visas may be required for your chosen region. We’ve provided some helpful information for this on the opposite page.
3. Non-refundable deposit
All cruises are secured by a non-refundable deposit. This is typically set at 15% of the cruise cost (this varies when booking close to your departure date, and when booking cruises more than 27 nights in duration).
4. We will send confirmation straight away
There’s a little more information we will require before you travel, such as your insurance, emergency contact details and passport details, and naturally final payment is needed ahead of your cruise. We will send details of this with your confirmation invoice as soon as you make your booking.

Our cover is inspired by the story of Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines and depicts the small Norwegian town of Hvitsten on Oslofjord. Here, in 1848, three brothers – Fredrik Christian, Petter and Andreas – bought their first ships and began one of the world’s most pioneering shipping companies.
From the earliest days of finding new ways to transport timber and ice, through to being one of the first to venture into the passenger business in the early twentieth century, the Olsen family has always sought new and better ways to navigate the business of the sea.
175 years later, and five generations on, the company is still family-run. The Olsen family’s experience and commitment continues to inform the special way we sail today.
