ABOUT DJ

DJ started his career at Crossland as a summer intern. Early in his career, he knew Crossland was where he wanted to be. In 2015, he was hired full-time as a Project Engineer then shortly promoted to Project Manager in the Construction Management Division. DJ has been instrumental in expanding Crossland’s footprint and growing the business, starting with our regional Texas office opening. After that, he helped open another branch office in Oklahoma City and again in Wichita, Kansas, where he is currently.

As a Division Manager, DJ has built up our Wichita division tremendously since he took over. He is a firm believer that having great relationships within the workplace is key to running a successful office. “Putting the work into building relationships with clients, employees, subcontractors, in the Wichita community is what makes us successful.”

Outside of work, DJ calls himself a habitual tinkerer. Every hobby revolves around a gear or a tool and always creating or fixing something.

The Crossland Difference: How Our Self Performance Capabilities Bring Value to Your Project.

We’re a hands-on builder — not just in how we lead, but in how we work. Our self-perform capabilities allow us to control critical scopes like concrete, steel, and earthwork, which helps keep your project on schedule, on budget, and built to a higher standard.

It’s not the right fit for every job, but when it is, it gives us the flexibility and field expertise to solve problems early, reduce risk, and add real value where it counts.

More predictable schedules & budgets

We’ve poured millions of square feet of concrete and hung thousands of tons of steel — with our own crews. That gives us tighter control of the schedule and allows for more accurate, confident budgeting from the start.

control over QUALITY, safety, and speed

We don’t leave critical scopes to chance. With in-house tradespeople on-site, we ensure the work is done right — safely, efficiently, and to spec — every time.

fewer delays, more solutions

If a subcontractor falls behind or drops out, we don’t wait. We step in with our own skilled teams to keep things moving and protect your schedule.

proactive problem solving

Our field crews and preconstruction team work together to identify risks before they hit the jobsite. From weather to logistics, we plan ahead — so you don’t have to play catch-up.

confidence when things get complex

We’ve built it all — from hospitals and heavy industrial to parks and schools. When challenges come up, we don’t flinch. We figure it out and get it done.

We Understand the Impact

The Music Theatre Wichita renovation is a rare opportunity to preserve a beloved institution while reimagining its future. Located in the heart of Wichita, this project will enhance not only a performance venue, but the cultural and economic vitality of the entire community. At Crossland, we’re deeply invested in Wichita’s arts scene and honored to support a space that inspires, educates, and entertains. This work is personal, for us and for the city. Our approach centers on four key focus areas that reflect the project’s full impact: revitalization, cultural legacy, c, and elevated audience and artist experience.

1 Revitalization

The Music Theatre Wichita renovation is a meaningful opportunity to restore and modernize one of the city’s most iconic cultural spaces. As contractors, we understand the importance of preserving the theater’s historic character while bringing it up to today’s performance and audience expectations.

Our team will upgrade key infrastructure - mechanical, electrical, accessibility, and acoustics - while maintaining the architectural elements that define its legacy. We also recognize this project’s role in reinvigorating the surrounding district by increasing foot traffic and cultural activity. This isn’t just a building upgrade, it’s a careful balance of honoring the past and preparing for the future. We’re committed to executing the work with precision, sensitivity, and a deep respect for what this space means to Wichita.

2 cultural legacy

This project is a meaningful investment in Wichita’s creative future. Music Theatre Wichita is more than a performance venue - it’s a cultural cornerstone that nurtures talent, tells powerful stories, and brings people together through the arts.

As builders with a strong appreciation for the fine arts, we understand the responsibility of helping preserve and elevate this legacy. The renovation will allow for expanded productions, enhanced educational opportunities, and a more inclusive experience for all who use the space. Our role is to deliver a facility that supports creativity at every level - technically, physically, and artistically. At its core, this is about building a home where culture thrives, inspiration takes root, and the community continues to experience the transformative power of the performing arts.

3 community investment

Situated at the north end of Wichita’s evolving entertainment district, the Music Theatre Wichita renovation will serve as a catalyst for continued growth. We understand this project’s reach goes well beyond the building itself, it will help energize the local economy by drawing more visitors to nearby restaurants, hotels, and shops, reinforcing the area as a regional arts destination.

Our team is committed to delivering a space that not only supports world-class performances but also fosters year-round community engagement. A revitalized venue will strengthen Wichita’s identity as a creative, connected city, while giving residents a place to gather, celebrate, and be inspired. This is more than a construction project, it’s a long-term investment in civic pride, cultural momentum, and the experiences that bring people together across generations.

4 elevated experience

This renovation is centered on enhancing the experience for everyone who steps inside on stage and off. For patrons, it means more comfortable seating, improved acoustics, greater accessibility, and upgraded amenities that transform each visit into something memorable. For performers and staff, it brings modernized backstage areas, advanced lighting and sound systems, and the infrastructure needed to support complex, high-caliber productions.

As contractors, we know that every detail - sightlines, circulation, finishes, and tech - must come together to create a space that feels seamless and inspiring. This project will help Music Theatre Wichita continue to attract top talent, grow its audience, and deliver performances that resonate. More than a renovation, this is about building a venue that supports creativity and elevates the entire experience - before, during, and after the curtain rises.

culture & entertainment centers

From full-scale Broadway-caliber performance halls to regional amphitheaters and everything in between, Crossland has delivered some of the most dynamic and technically demanding entertainment venues across the region. We understand the unique blend of precision, creativity, and coordination these projects require - from acoustics and rigging systems to audience flow and artist experience. Our portfolio reflects a deep understanding of what it takes to bring world-class performances to life, whether it’s an intimate black box theater or a large-scale outdoor venue.

BICKNELL FAMILY CENTER FOR THE ARTS

When you walk into the Bicknell Performing Arts Center, you’re not just entering a building, you’re stepping into a world-class venue that redefines what’s possible in a small town.

The 95,000 SF facility features:

• Three performance halls, each acoustically tuned and purpose-built

• Two permanent art galleries

• Full back-of-house support, including green rooms, dressing rooms, and makeup spaces

• Professional-grade costume and scene shops

Whether it’s a Broadway-caliber production, a university choir performance, or a one-act student play, this center has the infrastructure, technology, and flexibility to support every creative expression.

Most importantly, it represents what’s possible when visionary clients and committed builders come together to do something bold. Just like your project, the Bicknell Center wasn’t built to check a box; it was built to change what a community believes it can achieve.

MUSTANG PERFORMING ARTS CENTER

The Mustang Performing Arts Center features a highly functional performance hall, flexible black box theatre, and supporting spaces built for daily use and long-term durability. The stage includes a ten-panel acoustic shell with a ceiling-hung canopy for enhanced sound quality, and the adjacent black box theater provides a versatile setting for smaller productions and classroom instruction. Designed with purpose, safety, and value in mind, the facility supports both performance and educational needs for Mustang Public Schools.

CORNELL CENTER FOR THE ARTS

The Harry M. Cornell Arts & Entertainment Complex is a 38,000 SF facility in downtown Joplin, built to serve as a functional home for performance, visual arts, and community engagement. Its centerpiece is a flexible performance stage that opens to an outdoor venue via a custom hangar door. The building also features a black box theater, gallery spaces, and acoustic and HVAC systems tailored for sound quality and art preservation.

OPERA OF THE OZARKS

The new Opera in the Ozarks theater, funded by a $34 million Walton grant, is a 300-seat venue embedded in the Ozark forest, designed by Polk Stanley Wilcox and built by Crossland. It includes a performance hall with scenic lake views under a canopy-like roof, adjacent rehearsal spaces, production shops, practice rooms, and on-site faculty housing in multi-unit cabins. This facility elevates training and production capabilities for faculty and emerging artists.

restoration & rehabilitation

Crossland brings a deep portfolio of experience in delivering high-performance spaces that blend technical precision with elevated living. We’ve completed countless music, production, and luxury residential projects across the region—each tailored to meet the unique needs of discerning clients who expect the highest level of quality, privacy, and customization. From acoustically sensitive environments to finely crafted living spaces, our team understands how to execute complex design intent with the craftsmanship and attention to detail these projects demand.

NOBLEMAN HOTEL

The Nobleman Hotel will breathe new life into a beloved Fort Worth landmark through an extensive historic renovation and thoughtfully designed expansion.

Located in the city’s Near Southside, this boutique Hilton hotel will preserve the original structure, transforming it into the hotel’s main lobby and event space - highlighting the building’s rich character and architectural charm. The second floor of the historic building will serve as a vibrant public space for gatherings, weddings, and community events.

A new four-story addition will complement the restored structure, adding 153 modern guestrooms, a full-service restaurant, stylish bar, meeting rooms, an outdoor pool lounge, and underground parking.

Crossland is proud to partner with MD Hospitality to deliver a project that artfully blends old and new, ensuring the historic building remains a celebrated centerpiece while enhancing it with upscale amenities and refined design. Once complete, The Nobleman will offer guests and locals a one-of-akind experience rooted in preservation, community, and modern comfort.

HISTORIC LANE HOTEL REMODEL HISTORIC COURTHOUSE RENO

In downtown Rogers, the historic 1920s Lane Hotel has been thoughtfully restored and transformed into Haas Hall, one of the nation’s top-ranked high schools. Crossland upgraded the structure for code compliance, removed hazardous materials, and added fire protection, elevators, and new stair towersblending historic charm with safety and functionality for future generations of students.

Crossland was honored to renovate the 120-year-old Jasper County Courthouse. The 43,000 SF building was carefully restored, featuring beautifully refinished hardwood floors, intricate ceramic tile, and preserved woodwork complemented by modern upgrades. The result is a revitalized courthouse that celebrates its legacy and serves the community for generations to come.

SCHIFFERDECKER HISTORICAL HOMES

When David Humphreys shared his frustration over stalled renovations of two historic Joplin homes, Ivan Crossland Jr. knew he had to help. Though residential work was outside Crossland’s norm, the team stepped in to restore the Schifferdecker and Zelleken homes—icons of 1890s architecture. Now nearing completion as a museum, the project blends heritage with modern use. It reflects a deep friendship, shared vision, and our commitment to preserving Joplin’s rich architectural legacy.

CROSSLAND’S EXPERIENCE

with entertainment facilities

Our team understands that well-designed fine arts facilities are essential for inspiring creativity, expression, and collaboration. preconstruction approach

At Crossland Construction, we believe that the foundation for a successful project is established long before the first shovel hits the ground. Our integrated approach to preconstruction and construction services is built on collaboration, transparency, and a relentless commitment to delivering value for our clients at every stage. The preconstruction phase is where we set the stage for project success. Our process begins with a deep dive into the project’s goals, budget, and schedule. We understand that every project is unique, and we tailor our services to meet the specific needs of each client and design team.

Budget Confirmation and Cost Control

Accurate budgeting is critical to project success. At Crossland, we leverage our extensive historical cost database and self-perform expertise to provide detailed, reliable estimates at every design milestone. Our team conducts thorough cost analyses, using real-time market data and input from key trade partners to ensure that the project budget is both realistic and sufficient. We identify potential cost drivers early and offer value engineering solutions that maintain design intent while maximizing efficiency and cost savings.

Collaboration in the Design Process

We view ourselves as an extension of the owner and design team, actively participating in design meetings and constructability reviews. Our experts provide input on materials, systems, and construction methods, always seeking opportunities to enhance durability, performance, and value. We facilitate value engineering workshops, exploring alternative solutions that align with the project’s goals and budget. Our experience with design assist and design-build trade partners—especially for complex scopes like mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and roofing—enables us to optimize coordination and cost control from the outset.

Bid Package Development and Trade Partner Selection

Developing clear and comprehensive bid packages is essential to attracting qualified trade partners and ensuring competitive pricing. We work closely with the design team to break down the project scope into logical, distinct trade packages, minimizing the risk of scope gaps or overlaps. Our pre-qualification process evaluates trade contractors based on safety record, financial stability, relevant experience, and capacity. Only those who meet our rigorous standards are invited to bid, ensuring a reliable and high-performing project team.

Design Build Trade Partners

Crossland is a relationship-driven organization that understands the success of any project depends heavily on strong partnerships - especially with our local trade partners. With a robust network of trusted and proven trades across the region, we’re able to match the right teams to the right scopes. We identify critical trade and supply scopes early and assess whether onboarding key partners during preconstruction will add measurable value. Our selection process is thoughtful and deliberate, involving a detailed solicitation and interview process to ensure the best fit for the project’s goals, schedule, and complexity.

Transparent Subcontractor Approval and Fee Structure

Transparency is a cornerstone of our approach. The final list of subcontractors is determined collaboratively with the owner and architect, based on pre-qualification results and project requirements. We provide a detailed breakdown of general conditions, fees, and contingencies, tailored to the project’s complexity and risk profile. Our fee structure includes general liability insurance and any necessary subcontractor bonding program costs, ensuring comprehensive coverage and peace of mind for our clients.

Detailed Scheduling and Risk Management

A well-developed schedule is key to timely project delivery. Our team creates a detailed construction schedule that identifies key milestones, critical path activities, and potential risks. We work proactively to mitigate risks, ensuring that the project stays on track and that any challenges are addressed before they impact the timeline. When un-forseen challenges threaten the project schedule, our team conducts interactive recovery sessions to determine how to reschedule activities that impact the critical path and maintain the scheduled targets.

construction approach

As the project moves from preconstruction to construction, our focus shifts to execution and quality assurance. We maintain open lines of communication with all stakeholders, holding regular coordination meetings and providing daily reports through our project management software Procore. This ensures that everyone is informed, engaged, and able to make timely decisions.

Quality Assurance and Field Issue Resolution

Quality is non-negotiable at Crossland. Our quality control program includes pre-installation meetings, mock-ups, and regular inspections to ensure that all work meets or exceeds project specifications. When field issues arise, we document and communicate them promptly, working collaboratively to develop solutions that minimize impact on cost and schedule. Our proactive approach allows us to adjust resources and schedules as needed, maintaining momentum and delivering on our commitments.

Transparent Pay Application and Change Management

We believe in transparency and accountability throughout the construction process. Our monthly pay application review process ensures that subcontractor applications are accurate and reflect work completed. These applications are submitted to the owner for review and approval, providing clear documentation and financial oversight. When field changes are necessary, we document and evaluate them for cost and schedule impact, seeking owner approval before implementation.

Self-Performed Work and Subcontractor Collaboration

Depending on project needs, Crossland may self-perform select trades such as concrete, carpentry, or demolition, leveraging our in-house expertise to drive quality and efficiency. All other trades are subcontracted to qualified partners, ensuring that every aspect of the project is handled by experienced professionals.

Commitment to Safety

Safety is at the heart of everything we do. Our comprehensive safety program includes site-specific safety plans, ongoing training, and daily safety meetings. We enforce strict compliance with OSHA standards and conduct regular safety audits to maintain a safe and productive work environment for everyone on site.

At Crossland Construction, our integrated approach to preconstruction and construction services ensures that every project is delivered with precision, quality, and a steadfast commitment to our clients’ goals. From initial budgeting and design collaboration to final execution and closeout, we are dedicated to building lasting relationships and exceptional projects.
