I hope all members and their families had a very Merry Christmas and are enjoying a happy and prosperous start to the New Year. 2025 is already shaping up to be a massive and exciting year for Your Team and Your Club! The official NRL Season draw has been released and promises some thrilling match ups both home and away for both the NRL & NRLW sides, including some epic double header games at home. Check out Page 10 for more information about how you can support Your Team at Your Club this year, and a special sneak preview of the season ahead.
Great value dining has always been at the heart of our awardwinning dining experience at the Club, as we strive to provide delicious options at unbeatable pricing. As a community Club, we are always striving to support our local community wherever possible. Over the past few months, your Club has supported a variety of charities, community groups & fundraising endeavours with donations now in excess of $12.3 million since the Club opened. One recent highlight was the Drive for Skyla campaign, which saw the Club link arms with the Rotary Club of Townsville to help change the life of 12-year-old local Skyla Christie who has cerebral palsy.
The campaign is aimed at raising $50,000 to purchase a specially modified vehicle to enable Skyla’s parents to transport her to medical appointments, school, and activities such as cheerleading, gymnastics, horse riding and to North Queensland Cowboys games. You can read more about this very worthy campaign on page 4, and I hope that you continue to be as proud of our Club as I am of these community endeavours.

DRIVE FOR SKYLA
Cowboys Leagues Club has linked arms with Townsville and district Rotarians to help change the life of local 12-yearold, Skyla Christie, with the Drive for Skyla campaign.
A keen North Queensland Cowboys fan, Skyla has cerebral palsy and requires a specially modified vehicle for her parents to transport her to medical appointments, school, and activities such as cheerleading, gymnastics, horse riding and to North Queensland Cowboys games. The Drive for Skyla campaign is aimed at raising $50,000 to purchase this custom vehicle and help support this very special family.
Cowboys Leagues Club Business Development Manager, Helen Smyth, Rotary Club of Townsville Director Liam Hirst and President Guy Raffe officially launched the campaign at the Club in November last year. The Cowboys Leagues Club was proud to kick start the campaign with a $5,000 donation, adding to Rotary’s seed donation of $15,000.
For Helen Smyth, the campaign encompasses everything a Community Club strives to do in its day-to-day operations and mission.
“From charities and not-for-profit organisations to suppliers, local businesses and employees and worthy individuals like Skyla, the Club has a very strong commitment to the North Queensland community and beyond - ultimately, we are a 100% community owned Club and at the end of the day, everything we do is to give back to the community that support us.”
“We’re very proud to be associated with Rotary on this campaign to help Skyla, and sincerely thank our members for helping us play our part,” she said.

Skyla’s mother Kelly and her family moved to Townsville from Mount Isa 12 years ago to ensure Skyla had access to the best possible medical services. While Skyla was recently provided with a powered wheelchair, giving the young teenager renewed confidence and freedom, the family desperately needs a suitable vehicle to transport her and her 160kg wheelchair.
The fundraising goal of $50,000 will cover the purchase price of a suitable vehicle, while the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) will fund the conversion to accommodate a wheelchair by local firm Freedom Motors.
Rotary Club of Townsville Director, Liam Hirst, is hoping that other Rotary Clubs, businesses and individuals jump on board to help reach the $50,000 fundraising target.
“The Rotary Club of Townsville was very moved by Skyla’s plight, so we decided to do something about it. Her family have limited capacity to deal with the everyday needs of their little girl, who will be in a wheelchair for the rest of her life. They have been relying on taxis to get them to their medical appointments, which has been costly and not always convenient,” he explained.
“We are hoping other Rotary and service clubs will rally to support this worthy cause. We’re also urging the business community to partner with us and the Cowboys Leagues Club and get behind the Drive for Skyla,” he said.

Pre-season training for your North Queensland Toyota Cowboys began back in October, with all the Pacific Championship representative players gradually returning to the fold after their stellar performances and a well-earned break. Passionate fans would have noticed the team’s gruelling sessions across Townsville, including the sweltering morning drills on the field adjacent to Podium Café, with the entire team committed to putting in the hard yards in preparation for such a nostalgic season ahead – celebrating 30 years of the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys.
The Pre-Season Challenge makes a return in 2025, and promises to ramp up the NRL regional presence across Australia. The Cowboys will begin with a QLD derby against the Dolphins at Barlow Park in Cairns on Friday 14th February, followed by a trip to the South to face the Storm at Casey Fields in Melbourne on Sunday 23rd February. You can catch both games live and loud on the big screens at Your Club for the absolute best pre-season atmosphere. As if these stellar matchups weren’t enough to get us excited for the return of footy, the 2025 NRL Harvey Norman All Stars promises a showcase of pride and celebration of culture. Locked in for Saturday 15th February at CommBank Stadium in Sydney,
the All Stars will feature the women’s and men’s Indigenous and Māori teams play back-to-back in an action-packed afternoon of incredible talent on display. In exciting news, the Club welcomes new signings Jaxson Paulo, Kai O’Donnell and Karl Lawton to North Queensland in 2025. Christmas also came early for Jaxon Purdue, Kaiden Lahrs and Jamal Shibasaki, who were all elevated into the top squad. We can’t wait to see them excel onfield representing our Club in Cowboys colours!
The team will start the official 2025 NRL season with an opener against the Sea Eagles away, followed by their first home game against the Sharks. Other season highlights include 3 back-toback Saturday Home Games throughout May as we take on the quadruple Premiership winners the Panthers in Round 10, the Sea Eagles in Round 11 before a Bye, followed by the Tigers in Round 13. We also have another mega Queensland Derby on our hands as we face the Broncos at QCB Stadium for our final home game of the regular season in Round 26 – we cannot wait for this one!
Fans will bleed maroon or blue once again as another epic battle begins for State of Origin, with NRL games on Wed 28th May in Brisbane, Wed 18th June in Perth and Wed 9th July in Sydney. After record crowds for the NRLW State of Origin in 2024, the introduction of Game 3 is here to stay! Game 1 has been announced as the opener for the NRL Magic Round in Brisbane on Thurs 1st May, followed by Game 2 in Sydney on Thurs 15th May and Game 3 in Newcastle on Thurs 29th May. Your Club will be the place to be to watch the showcase of State against State, so make sure you put those dates into the calendar now! We’re all fired up for the return of footy and we look forward to seeing you Support Your Team at Your Club. LET’S GO COWBOYS!
