A Ball Wine/Brew Tasting will be held from 6 to 9:30 p.m. with live music by Amara. Along with dancing, you can enjoy select wines & brews paired with specially prepared hors d’oeuvres. A silent auction will include custom glassware and other items donated by Sawdust & Fiber, Charmey Leavell, Valley Wide, Ballard Cheese, and others.

Winter Conditions Stressful to Wildlife

As the daytime temperatures start to warm in April, Idahoans are anxiously looking forward to spending time in the sunshine, often walking their dogs while exploring the opportunities that warmer spring weather brings.

However, when lingering winter weather extends into spring and an abundance of snow is yet to melt, Idaho Fish and Game is reminding recreational users that late winter and early spring can still be extremely difficult for wildlife.

Deer and elk have been surviving for months on the fat reserves that they accumulated the prior year, and those reserves are now depleted after a long, cold and snow-filled winter. Even when the snow starts to melt, it’s not the end of the wintertime struggles for these animals, as it still can take several weeks before new spring growth starts to grow and is available for wildlife.

To reduce stress, when recreating in late winter and early spring everyone needs to continue to use precautions that kept wildlife alive during the winter.

More ways to Help Wildlife

Recreate in an area without wildlife present. Big game animals spend much of the winter in lower elevations away from populated areas and on south-facing slopes where the snow isn’t as deep. Avoiding these areas, even if they are open, or delaying your trip until most snow has melted, and green vegetation has appeared can prevent undue stress on animals and help give them their best chance of survival.

Control your four-legged hiking companion. Even if your dog isn’t chasing big game animals, its presence may be enough to cause animals to flee and expend unnecessary energy they would not have otherwise used.

As always, we have great pricing on all the best products.

Sawtooth National Forest Mourns Loss of District Ranger

The Sawtooth National Forest mourns the loss of Fairfield District Ranger Marty Gmelin, who passed away Saturday from injuries he sustained during a snow-tubing accident.

Gmelin, a native of Penfield, New York, will most be remembered for his beaming smile, hearty and infectious laughter, and the way he cared for his employees and the communities he served. He is survived by his parents and his sister.

“Marty was one of kind,” said Forest Supervisor Jake Strohmeyer. “He was always positive and tackled any assignment with a rare earnestness and sincerity that always impressed me.”

After earning an associates degree in Forestry, Gmelin began his Forest Service career as a seasonal in 1988. He later went on to earn his bachelors degree in Forest Management from the University of Montana.

Gmelin, who just celebrated 30 years of federal service, first came to work for the Sawtooth National Forest in 1995 as a seasonal forestry technician. The following year, he received a permanent appointment on the Stanislaus National Forest, where he spent most of his career in positions ranging from district forester to forest silviculturist. Gmelin returned to Idaho to lead the Fairfield Ranger District April 27, 2020.

Celebration of life arrangements are pending and will be announced at a later date by Demaray Funeral Service in Gooding, Idaho.

The Sawtooth National Forest staff extend their sincerest condolences to Gmelin’s family and friends.

©Spring is a time of year that comes when it wants to.

No one can really assure spring by a date on a calendar. Mother Nature still deals the cards, and it is up to us how we play the hand given to us.

In Western Idaho, one can see Spring has sprung by the curlews arriving on migration and the tractors able to work in the fields. Then again, there are those well planned days that push the reset button with rain or snow.

In Central or Eastern Idaho, one could see Spring is knocking on doors by the sight of muddy roads (as opposed to snow covered). The wood piles are nearing low levels, and of course, the wind is blowing more soil than snow.

The Sandhill cranes usually make a good indication of Spring. This year I thing their food source is still a little under snow, but what do I know about the diet of cranes. They may be color blind and the white fields may look like old wheat fields.

The people of Eastern and Central Idaho usually experience another season called "Sprinter" which is in between Spring and Winter. The tell tale signs of this season have mixed indications which the people of the Treasure Valley don't understand.

Here are a few random thoughts about Spring: -- -- --

A kind wind is like a spring day! A refreshing word could give one a spring feeling anytime during the four seasons.

No matter how long Winter is, Spring is sure to follow.

Spring is sooner recognized by plants than by man.

Live life in full bloom.

Sit quietly, do nothing. Spring comes and the grass grows by itself.

"The only thing that could spoil a day was people. People were always the limiters of happiness except for the very few that were as good as spring itself." Ernest Hemingway

Happiness is what color? Spring Green.

"Is the spring coming?" he said. "What is it like? ... Is it the sun shinning on the rain and the rain falling on the sunshine?" Frances Hodgson Burnett

"In the spring, I have counted 136 different kinds of weather inside 24 hours." Mark Twain

"If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need." Cicero

Spring and rainbows... loving reminders how beautiful change can be.

For in its time - my "Cup of Tee".

Cary was born in Noblesville, Indiana to the parents of Mary Elaine Fry and Carey Theron Featherston. Cary is survived by his loving wife Debra and their 4 children, Dawn Marie, Seth Daniel and twins, Katie Rene and Kyle Wade Featherston, their 5 grandchildren, Makayla, Maisie, Khole, Liam and little Vera and his younger brother Mark Elden Featherston. Cary was preceded in death by their son Silas Cary Featherston, and his older sister Linda Gayle Featherston Freeman.

On April 4th 1984 Cary met his forever love Debra Lynn Christensen, which was ordained by God, and they were married just before Christmas on December 21st 1986. Cary had the strength of ten men and an ever-enduring sense of humor. Cary always strived to see the best in other people and to always take the high road with others through his journey of life.

Cary is an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam era and served as a com-plotter of communications and security in Thule, Greenland and at Travis Air Force base in California.

In 1992 Cary and Debra started an award-winning community radio station in the Okanogan Valley of Washington state/ Through Cary's efforts and ingenuity they ended up with a broadcast reach across the country that was an envy of the big radio stations in the area. Cary and Debra broadcast lots of Christian themed music and gospel content which did not sit well with a few of the anti-Christian broadcast owners.

Cary and Debra would like to make a special request to those who are able... and that is to please donate "the gift of life" at your local blood bank. Thank you.

May God be blessed with his presence in Heaven, as we all were who knew and associated with him on earth.

We would like to offer a special thank you to all the staff at the Huntsman Cancer Research Center in Utah and the special people of the VA and Hospice staff that provided such loving and meaningful care. May God bless all of them.

Other expenses to be charged against the proceeds of this sale include the Trustee’s fees and attorney’s fees, costs and expenses of the sale, and late charges, if any. Beneficiary has elected, and has directed the Trustee to sell the above described property to satisfy the obligation. The sale is a public sale and any person, including the Beneficiary, may bid at the sale. The bid price must be paid immediately upon the close of bidding by certified funds (valid money orders, certified checks or cashier’s checks). The conveyance will be made by Trustee’s Deed, without any representation or warranty, including warranty of title, express or implied, as the sale is made strictly on an as-is, where-is basis, without limitation, the sale is being made subject to all existing conditions, if any, of lead paint, mold or other environmental or health hazards. The Trustors, successor in interest to the Trustors, or any other person having an interest in the property, or any person named in IRC § 45-1506, has the right, at any time prior to the Trustee’s Sale, to pay to the Beneficiary, or the successor in interest to the Beneficiary, the entire amount then due under the Deed of Trust and the obligation secured thereby (including costs and expenses actually incurred and attorney’s fees) other than such portion of the principal as would not then be due had no default occurred and by curing any other default complained of herein that is capable of being cured by tendering the performance required under the obligation or to cure the default, by paying all costs and expenses actually incurred in enforcing the obligation and Deed of Trust with Successor Trustee’s and attorney’s fees. In the event that all defaults are cured the foreclosure will be dismissed and the foreclosure sale will be canceled. The scheduled Trustee’s Sale may be postponed by public proclamation up to 30 days for any reason. If the Trustee is unable to convey title for any reason, the successful bidder’s sole and exclusive remedy shall be the return of monies paid to the Successor Trustee and the successful bidder shall have no further recourse. The above Trustors are named to comply with IRC § 45-1506(4)(a). No representation is made that they are, or are not, presently responsible for this obligation. This is an attempt to collect a debt and any information obtained will be used for that purpose. Dated this 16th day of March, 2023. Shelly M.
