NCMC Chapel Project Closing in on Fundraising Goal

Last summer, the Chapel Project at North Canyon Medical Center broke ground. Thanks to the Friends of North Canyon, the first fundraising goal of $180,000 had been reached.
The next next fundraising goal is $305,000 and this Saturday, April 22nd, community members hope to push the funds over the top with a benefit event at Hummingbird House in Gooding - 125 7th Ave W.
A Ball Wine/Brew Tasting will be held from 6 to 9:30 p.m. with live music by Amara. Along with dancing, you can enjoy select wines & brews paired with specially prepared hors d’oeuvres. A silent auction will include custom glassware and other items donated by Sawdust & Fiber, Charmey Leavell, Valley Wide, Ballard Cheese, and others.
Tickets are limited, so don't wait. You can buy tickets online at their facebook page: NCMC Chapel Project Benefit. For more information about this event, call or text Nancy at 208-420-5581 or email ncmcchapelprojectbenefit@yahoo.com. The Ball Wine/Brew Tasting is being sponsored by: BestNotes, Hummingbird House, Charmey Leavell, The Neal Family, Ballard Cheese, Ridley's, and Flying S.
Don't like going to fun events? You can also donate to the Chapel Project at their website: northcanyon.org/giving-back. With current donations over $230,000, it won't take much to make the NCMC Chapel a reality.
Winter Conditions Stressful to Wildlife

As the daytime temperatures start to warm in April, Idahoans are anxiously looking forward to spending time in the sunshine, often walking their dogs while exploring the opportunities that warmer spring weather brings.
However, when lingering winter weather extends into spring and an abundance of snow is yet to melt, Idaho Fish and Game is reminding recreational users that late winter and early spring can still be extremely difficult for wildlife.
Deer and elk have been surviving for months on the fat reserves that they accumulated the prior year, and those reserves are now depleted after a long, cold and snow-filled winter. Even when the snow starts to melt, it’s not the end of the wintertime struggles for these animals, as it still can take several weeks before new spring growth starts to grow and is available for wildlife.
To reduce stress, when recreating in late winter and early spring everyone needs to continue to use precautions that kept wildlife alive during the winter.

More ways to Help Wildlife
Recreate in an area without wildlife present. Big game animals spend much of the winter in lower elevations away from populated areas and on south-facing slopes where the snow isn’t as deep. Avoiding these areas, even if they are open, or delaying your trip until most snow has melted, and green vegetation has appeared can prevent undue stress on animals and help give them their best chance of survival.
Control your four-legged hiking companion. Even if your dog isn’t chasing big game animals, its presence may be enough to cause animals to flee and expend unnecessary energy they would not have otherwise used.

Sawtooth National Forest Mourns Loss of District Ranger
The Sawtooth National Forest mourns the loss of Fairfield District Ranger Marty Gmelin, who passed away Saturday from injuries he sustained during a snow-tubing accident.
Gmelin, a native of Penfield, New York, will most be remembered for his beaming smile, hearty and infectious laughter, and the way he cared for his employees and the communities he served. He is survived by his parents and his sister.
“Marty was one of kind,” said Forest Supervisor Jake Strohmeyer. “He was always positive and tackled any assignment with a rare earnestness and sincerity that always impressed me.”
After earning an associates degree in Forestry, Gmelin began his Forest Service career as a seasonal in 1988. He later went on to earn his bachelors degree in Forest Management from the University of Montana.
Gmelin, who just celebrated 30 years of federal service, first came to work for the Sawtooth National Forest in 1995 as a seasonal forestry technician. The following year, he received a permanent appointment on the Stanislaus National Forest, where he spent most of his career in positions ranging from district forester to forest silviculturist. Gmelin returned to Idaho to lead the Fairfield Ranger District April 27, 2020.
Celebration of life arrangements are pending and will be announced at a later date by Demaray Funeral Service in Gooding, Idaho.
The Sawtooth National Forest staff extend their sincerest condolences to Gmelin’s family and friends.
