Lynwood Senior Center get funds for renovations

LYNWOOD, CA — Congresswoman Nanette Barragán (CA44) recently celebrated $1,000,000 in federal funding she secured for renovations to the Lynwood Senior Center.

The funding, secured by Congresswoman Barragán in last year’s government funding bills, will help the senior center construct a new roof, install a permanent patio shade for the outdoor patio, repair the heating and air conditioning system, upgrade kitchen appliances, and refurbish the Senior Fitness Zone across the street at Lynwood City Park.

“Senior centers are critical to the health and wellness of our older adults,” said Rep. Barragán. “The Lynwood Senior Center is in dire need of repair. The Center is a key part of our community as it provides older adults in our Congressional District an opportunity to participate in various activities and to maintain their social and community bonds. I was proud to have secured this funding to transform this facility so it can continue to provide a safe and welcoming space for seniors in Lynwood.”

Compton College honors spring 2024 nursing graduates

Compton College hosted a Nursing Pinning Ceremony on June 4, 2024, to celebrate 26 students who graduated with associate of science degrees in nursing.

“ THERE is always a need for qualified health care providers in the workforce,” said Compton College President Keith Curry. “Compton College has strong nursing and biomedical science programs and a stateoftheart Allied Health Building complete with a simulation

lab. We hope to continue to inspire and educate a new generation of leaders in nursing and other medical professions.”

Compton College’s Nursing Program is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN). Compton College student nurses

are supported by counseling, opportunities to further their education and referrals to jobs in the community.

Upon completion of the program, graduates earn an associate degree and are ready to take the National Council Licensure Examination – Reg

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Program

Launched just one year ago, Compton College also offers a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Program to accommodate students looking to pursue careers in allied health and technical fields and fill the gap in employment of muchneeded health care workers.

The eightweek course prepares students for entrylevel health care worker positions in a longterm care skilled nursing facility. Coursework emphasizes safety principles, infection control, and nursing procedures for providing physical care, and emotional and social support.

Certified Nursing Assis

tants provide basic human needs nursing care skills to compromised and geriatric residents living in longterm care facilities. Courses include lecture, skills practice in the lab, and direct patient care. Students in this program will develop such skills as safety measures, body mechanics, observation, recording vital signs, and how to meet patients’ emotional, physical, and nutritional needs.

Upon successful completion of the course, the student is eligible to take the State of California Certified Nursing Assistant certification examination. Certified Nursing Assistants enter at the first level of the nursing career ladder and report directly to a Licensed Vocational Nurse or Registered Nurse.

Students who complete the CNA Program will earn five points on their Compton College Associate Degree in Nursing application. The Certified Nursing Assistant Program is designed to fill the employment gap of caregivers working with the elderly in longterm care facilities. CNAs can also work in facilities such as hospitals, assisted living centers, home health care, adult day care centers, private practice/specialty clinics, and some government agencies.

Running a Local Race? How to Keep Your Feet Healthy

(StatePoint) Whether you’re a novice jogger embarking on a couchto5K program or a marathoner serious about racking up finishers’ medals, it’s critical you take great care of your feet.

“ RUNNING is an amazing form of cardiovascular exercise, but because it’s a highimpact sport that involves repeated trauma to the feet, everyone from longdistance runners to casual joggers is at risk for developing painful and debilitating foot conditions,” says Bryce A. Paschold, DPM, FACFAS, a boardcertified foot and ankle surgeon and a Fellow Member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS).

To help you identify signs of some of the more common foot issues associated with running so you can get proper treatment before the condition keeps you from the activity you love, the foot and ankle surgeon members of ACFAS are offering the following insights:

• Plantar Fasciitis: Plantar fasciitis is perhaps the most common complaint from runners. Presenting as heel pain, it’s caused by inflammation of the ligament that holds up the arch. At the first sign of heel pain, Dr. Paschold advises runners to stretch the calf, wear sturdier shoes and use arch supports. In some cases, icing and antiinflammatory medications, such as ibuprofen, are helpful. Should pain continue, visit a foot and ankle surgeon, who might recommend custom orthotics, injections and physical therapy.

• Neuromas: A neuroma is a pinched nerve between the toes that can cause pain, numbness and a burning

(c) lzf / iStock via Getty Images Plus

sensation in the ball of the foot. Overly flexible shoes are often the cause, and padding, orthotics or injections are usually effective treatments.

• Tendonitis: Runners can be sidelined with tendonitis if they ignore the warning signs of this overuse condition. There are several forms of tendonitis that affect the Achilles and other areas, and all are treated with rest, icing, strengthening, stretching and antiinflammatory medications, and sometimes with orthotics and physical therapy. Because overzealous training is usually the cause, especially among beginners, it’s important to ramp up mileage and speed gradually. A running coach can tailor your training plan to your current fitness level.

• Broken bones: Don’t assume that because you’re able to run, your foot is not fractured. Signs of a stress fracture can include pain, swelling, redness and possibly bruising. If a fracture is suspected, remember to practice RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation). You should also see a foot and ankle surgeon for an Xray and proper diagnosis. Remember that like with

other overuse injuries, stress fractures are often brought on by trying to do too much too soon. A general rule of thumb is to increase mileage by no more than 10 percent week to week.

• Lisfranc injuries: One misstep can lead to a sprain, fracture or dislocation of the Lisfranc joint. Consider wearing a headlamp in low lighting for surer footing. It is also a good idea to incorporate exercises into your regimen that will keep ankles and feet mobile and strong.

“While completing a marathon or even longer distance race may seem like the ultimate goal, it’s wise for new runners to start with shorter races first. This conservative approach will keep your feet in good shape so you’re able to run pain free for years to come,” says Dr. Paschold. “And of course, it’s vital to listen to your body and seek care from a foot and ankle surgeon whenever a foot problem is suspected.”

For more information on foot care or to find a foot and ankle surgeon near you, visit FootHealthFacts.org, the patient education website of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons.

Compton College honors students at 2024 scholarship ceremony

Compton College held its annual Academic and Scholarship Awards Ceremony on May 30 and recognized the academic achievements of 323 honors students (3.5 or higher GPA), five Presidential Scholars, and 34 scholarship recipients. Scholarships awarded to the students totaled $42,000.

THE 2024 Presidential Scholars are Alexis Camacho, Carla Galindo, Shernedra Kelly, Triana PerezAyon, and Nicole Salazar. Presidential Scholars represent students who have shown academic strength, singular focus, and the desire to reach their highest potential while overcoming obstacles in the pursuit of their dreams.

The Presidential Scholar program recognizes outstanding students who are graduating with a 3.7grade point average or higher. The 2024 Presidential Scholars each received a check for $2,000 and a medallion. The following is a brief spotlight on each President Scholar:

Alexis Camacho Fine Arts, Communication and Humanities

Alexis Camacho is an art major who will transfer to California State University, Dominguez Hills in fall 2024. While at Compton College, Camacho cofounded and served as vice president of the LBGTQ+ Club on campus, displayed artwork in the college’s Art Gallery, published artwork in the college’s “Voices of Compton” annual literary and art journal, and took first place in the library’s bookmark design contest.

Carla Galindo Business and Industrial Studies

Carla Galindo is a business administration major who will graduate from Compton College with three associate degrees in June 2024. Galindo plans to continue her higher education and is interested in entrepreneurship and the technology field as possible career pursuits. During her time at Compton College, she participated in Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS), the College Corps program, and completed a 12week internship through the Business and Entrepreneurship Academy in partnership

Shernedra Kelly Health and Public Services

Shernedra Kelly represents the third generation in her family to attend Compton College, following in the footsteps of her mother and grandmother. Kelly is a nontraditional student and single mother who earned an associate degree in nursing while also working parttime throughout her enrollment at Compton College. She plans to continue her education at a fouryear university and become a registered nurse.

Triana PerezAyon Social Sciences

Triana is a dualenrolled student who simultaneously earned both her high school diploma from Compton Early College High School and two associate degrees from Compton College. She is also the valedictorian of her high school class. After overcoming some personal hardships during her teens, PerezAyon was accepted to nine fouryear universities, including the University of California, Los Angeles and University of California, Berkeley.

Nicole Salazar Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)

Nicole Salazar attended Compton College as a dualenrolled student during her senior year of high school. She has been accepted to the Compton College nursing program beginning in fall 2024. She has participated in the College Corp program since 2023 and worked at the student food pantry on campus. She completed her general education courses early, freeing up time to take some nursing prerequisites and apply for graduation ahead of plan.

“In addition to offering state and federal Financial Aid that many students are eligible to receive, the Foun

dation for the Compton Community College District annually awards scholarships to students to help finance college attendance,” said Barbara Calhoun, Compton Community College District Board of Trustees president.

“In the past five years, the Foundation has awarded more than $180,000 in scholarships to Compton College students. We encourage all students to apply for scholarships during their first year at Compton College.”

Scholarships are beneficial to students trying to offset the cost of a col

lege education. Scholarships do not need to be paid back and are awarded based on specific qualifications, talents, or merit often without regard to financial need. Current Compton College students may apply online for multiple scholarships with just one application. The annual scholarship application period is usually the beginning of October through the end of February of the following year.

Compton College offers scholarships to students across all academic disciplines and 24 categories, including students working toward a certificate in Career Education programs, Dream Act students, Formerly Incarcerated Students in Transition (F.I.S.T.) program participants, firstgeneration students, women reentering college, and more. Students who are already receiving benefits through the statefunded Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) and Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education (CARE) programs may also apply for a scholarship.

The Compton Community College District introduced its Civility Champion Award in 2020 to honor outstanding employees whose contributions demonstrate a commitment to selfreflection, care, empathy, and respect while acknowledging the culture and humanity of others.

Distinguished Administrator Award recipient Antonio Banks is responsible for improving academic success, retention, and graduation rates of students who are black and males of color through collaboration with campus faculty, staff, administrators, and students to advance the Compton Community College District’s Student Equity and Achievement goals of ensuring equitable educational opportunities for all students.

Banks joined Compton College in this newlycreated role in 2021 and, in a short time, has

project, provided Simon would drop the lawsuit and proceed with developing the outlet mall.

All these commitments were made through public hearings and documented in public documents available for review, underscoring the importance of transparency and accountability in largescale publicprivate partnership projects.

Despite various extensions to Simon for the company to decide if the market now warrants this development and significant financial commitments from the City and CRA, Simon has failed to meet its obligations, including an outstanding debt of over $12.5 million owed to the CRA and paying its contractual carrycost obligations.

Mayor Lula DavisHolmes emphasized the city’s resilience against corporate intimidation, stating, “We remain dedicated to the revitalization of our

set in motion a comprehensive initiative to achieve, and be regarded as a benchmark for, the following initial goals: 1) complement campus initiatives designed to satisfy students’ basic needs; 2) creating an environment where students’ sense of belonging is a priority; 3) improving the interconnectedness among students and with faculty and staff; 4) expanding students’ purview of opportunities in higher education and career beyond Compton College, and 5) using professional development to continually improve college employees’ ability to serve students in these specific demographics.

While the Black and Males of Color Success initiative is still in its infancy, 15 workshops were hosted during the 202324 academic year related to academic success, personal and professional development, and cultural identity development. Banks also partnered with the professional development department to deliver three leadership academy programs during the year.

Banks is dedicated to aiding in the academic and societal advancement of disproportionately impacted student groups. He has extensive experience in providing innovative, collabo

city and will continue to work towards solutions that benefit our residents and the community at large. As public officials, we have a responsibility not to allow private developers or anyone else to take advantage of our community.”

The loss of the outlet mall would be disappointing, but it does not deter the CRA and the City from pursuing development goals. The CRA is actively working with other developers, such as Carson Goose Owner LLC, which is successfully developing on the same landfill site. Carson Goose Owner LLC is developing the Carson Place, an 11.12acre community amenity and commercial area featuring retail, restaurants, a performance stage, and other community serving uses.

This project is proceeding as planned and demonstrates the CRA’s capacity for successful redevelopment and it showcases

rative, inclusive, and actionable solutions at community college and university campuses, as well as nonprofit educational organizations.

Prior to joining Compton College, Banks served as the statewide charter director for the African American Male Education and Development Network in Los Angeles where he provided oversight in the development of 22 community collegebased charter programs throughout California.

Distinguished Faculty Award recipient Theresa BarraganEcheverria has served as the sole transfer counselor with oversight for the campus Transfer Center for the past nine years. She is a lifelong learner who is focused on perfecting her craft, is passionate about student success, and is dedicated to problem solving and providing solutions for positive outcomes. She is currently pursuing her doctorate while working full time.

In addition to counseling more than 1,200 students in the last few years alone, she served on many a college task force and committee, leads the annual Transfer Fair, university representative visits, campus tours, the northern California university tour, and transfer admit celebration each year.

Carson’s ability to foster positive and productive partnerships.

In a written statement, Brendan Kotler, Faring’s Chief Investment Officer, stated on behalf of Carson Goose Owner, LLC, “For many years, the City of Carson and the Carson Reclamation Authority have been thoughtful, committed, and diligent partners. As good stewards of the land, the CRA has always put the interests of the residents first.”

“We look forward to breaking ground on our project, a 96acre lifestyle and industrial park called Carson Place, by the end of the year, and continuing our relationship with the CRA and the City of Carson. We eagerly anticipate unveiling our 12acre community park featuring exceptional indoor and outdoor restaurant spaces, as well as lifestyle shopping, to the Carson community, whom we deeply

Distinguished Adjunct Faculty Award honoree Roderick Todd is an instructor in the Social Sciences Division. Todd joined Compton College in 2020 and in the following years has displayed a dedication to teaching and service not only for the Social Sciences Division, but also for the campus and community at large.

In fall 2023, he volunteered to fulfill teaching requests for local high schools in ethnic studies and history in addition to teaching courses at Compton College. He taught Introduction to Ethnic Studies and U.S. History at Willowbrook High School’s Early College, and History of the African American 1877 to Present at Centennial High School.

Most importantly, he is fulfilling the instruction of many of the core general education courses that are necessary for transfer. Since he joined Compton College during the pandemic, he took the initiative to get up to speed quickly and secured certification on the Canvas sys

value. Additionally, we’re excited to commence construction on 1100 new townhomes and luxury apartments this fall,” Kotler went on to say.

Mayor DavisHolmes added, “The City of Carson values transparent partnerships and remains hopeful that a path forward can be found with CAMCarson LLC, which represents Simon Property Group. However, we stand firm against intimidation tactics and remain dedicated to making decisions which are in the best interest of our taxpayers and residents.”

The City of Carson is also proud to be the first venue city to sign an agreement for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles and continues to work towards revitalizing and improving the local environment and economy, further solidifying its commitment to growth and community engagement.

Distinguished Staff Award honoree Iris Fernandez is a program specialist in the Workforce Development Department focused on the Tri City Adult Education Consortium. Her supervisor describes Fernandez as a “class act who puts the needs of students and colleagues above her own. She is a wealth of information, and the department relies on her to set an example of ‘good service’ within our department.”

She is known for her timeliness, consistency, and breadth of knowledge related to fiscal matters that govern the department’s comprehensive budget process. She helps students acquire their high school diplomas/GED by connecting them with the college’s adult school partners, offers bilingual application workshops for noncredit learners interested in transitioning to forcredit classes at Compton College, and supports many grantbased programs offered under the adult education and Strong Workforce programs.

The Los Angeles Sparks pulled off a thrilling 9692 win over the twotime defending champion Las Vegas Aces after starting the game down 140. For Los Angeles, it was their best and most complete win of the season, and they have now won consecutive games for the first time this year.

“ I have been in this league a decade now, and I have watched some less mentally strong teams have that kind of start and maybe say it is just not gonna be our night and go through some motions and pick it up on another day,” said head coach Curt Miller. “We refused to do that, and for them to respond when that second unit came in sparked us, and it regained some momentum and gave us the confidence that we could play and have success against Vegas.”

Rickea Jackson was clutch down the stretch, scoring seven points in the game’s last four minutes to hold off the Aces’ late push. She was 711 from the field for 16 points, tying her career high. Jackson was the number four overall pick in the draft this past offseason and is already showing signs that she can develop into a lethal offensive player in the WNBA.

“We went to Rickea late,

The Aces have been battling through some adversity and are without two of their premier players, Jackie Young and Chelsea Gray. They have not had the start to the season they would have hoped for at 54, and some of the frustration boiled over in this game, which resulted in four technical fouls.

“Sometimes when you get those bright lights all the time, and you are winning it, kinda covers up and masks a lot of things, but when that adversity hits, that is when you can really tell who is bought in versus who is not,” said A’ja Wilson.

“I am honored to highlight this incredible organization. I have been a longtime supporter of the Inner City Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles because it provides an artistic outlet for talented musicians and a valuable source of education and expression to our young people here in Los Angeles,” Senator Bradford said.

The Nonprofit of the

Year event, presented in partnership with the California Association of Nonprofits, features a luncheon at the State Capitol that allows members of the State Legislature to highlight the work of and honor a deserving nonprofit organization from their districts.

“The Inner City Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles is honored to be represented

league MVP and has established herself as the most dominant player in the league. Against the Sparks, she led her team in points (31), rebounds (8), assists (5), blocks (6), and steals (2).

Wilson’s size and athleticism make her capable of doing anything her team needs on the court. She is not known as a threepoint shooter but was 22 from beyond the arc. Her second three of the night cut the lead to two points with a minute and a half remaining on the clock.

“I don’t shoot many threes because it is hard to stop me from two, so I am not gonna let defenses off the hook settling for a three, but when the time is there, I gonna shoot it,” said

by our dear friend, Senator Steve Bradford, and we are overwhelmingly grateful to him for nominating our organization to be the Nonprofit of the Year,” Charles Dickerson, Founder, Conductor, and Executive Director said. “We strive to uplift the young people in the community that we serve, and this nomination and recognition serve as encouragement for us to keep doing the work to which

Wilson.

She is also tough and incredibly efficient. She went 1017 on Sunday and is shooting just over 50 percent on the year. Wilson was fouled and hit the ground really hard in the third quarter. She was down on the court for a minute, got up, stayed in the game, hit two free throws, and then forced a 24second shot clock violation on the next Sparks possession.

“These games are the games that prep you for later on down the road,” said Wilson. “We are going to get everybody’s best shot every single night. For us, it is a playoff game because we are going to get everyone’s Agame.”

The outlook for the rest of the season is bright for these two teams.

The Aces roster makes up a third of the USA Olympic team, and they are currently without two of those four players. Once they return, Las Vegas has a great chance to become the second WNBA team to win three straight championships. The only other was the Houston Comets when they won the first four titles in league history.

The Sparks are a young team that only has room to improve as the season continues. Dearica Hamby is having a breakout season, putting herself in contention to be a firsttime AllStar, and their two rookies, Rickea Jackson and Cameron Brink, have shown a lot of promise early on in their careers.

we are dedicated.”

The Inner City Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles is a California nonprofit, founded in 2009. Its flagship orchestra features 100plus primarily AfricanAmerican and Latino young musicians who perform an annual series of free community concerts of orchestral music in Los Angeles.

The orchestra also offers

music lessons for children beginning their musical journey, a Drum Corps program that prepares young percussionists to join college drumline programs, similar to those offered at HBCUs, a Drum Corps Program for young people living in Los Angeles County Juvenile Hall facilities and free instruction, instruments and supplies to all students.

NOTICE OF TRUSTEE’S SALE

NOTICE TO POTENTIAL BIDDERS: If you are considering bidding on this property lien, you should understand that there are risks involved in bidding at a trustee auction. You will be bidding on a lien, not on the property itself. Placing the highest bid at a trustee auction does not automatically entitle you to free and clear ownership of the property. You should also be aware that the lien being auctioned off may be a junior lien. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for paying off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can receive clear title to the property. You are encouraged to investigate the existence, priority, and size of outstanding liens that may exist on this property by contacting the county recorder’s office or a title insurance company, either of which may charge you a fee for this information. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same lender may hold more than one mortgage or deed of trust on this property.

NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNER: The sale date shown on this notice of sale may be postponed one or more times by the mortgagee, beneficiary, trustee, or a court, pursuant to Section 2924g of the California Civil Code. The law requires that information about trustee sale postponements be made available to you and to the public, as a courtesy to those not present at the sale. If you wish to learn whether your sale date has been postponed, and, if applicable, the rescheduled time and date for the sale of this property, you may call (866)-960-8299 or visit this Internet Web site https://www.altisource. com/loginpage.aspx using the file number assigned to this case 2023-01450-CA. Information about postponements that are very short in duration or that occur close in time to the scheduled sale may not immediately be reflected in the telephone information or on the Internet Web site. The best way to verify postponement information is to attend the scheduled sale.

LadyLike Foundation 15th Annual Women of Excellence Awards & Fashion Show

BEVERLY HILLS – The LadyLike Foundation hosted its 15th Annual Women of Excellence Awards and Fashion Show at the Beverly Hilton on June 1 in Beverly Hills, California.

THE mega gala affair is the LadyLike Foundation’s biggest fundraiser and drew a couple of highprofile attendees, including South Carolina women’s head basketball coach Dawn Staley, , Nicole T. Whiteman of the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation, Cookie Johnson, television host Nischelle Turner, and Erica Campbell, one half of the gospel duo, Mary Mary.

The goal of the faithbased LadyLike Foundation is to educate and empower girls and young women of color with opportunities in underprivileged and underserved communities.

“Bad

I’m not going to go into a lot of depth about the story in “Bad Boys: Ride or Die.” Miami detectives Mike Lowery (Will Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) are back to have another cop adventure. They do some investigating, clash with superiors, run afoul of bad guys, the bad guys endanger their loved ones, and then there’s a big showdown with the bad guys at the end. There’s no suspense in predicting that the movie will stick to that formula. The real suspense comes from wondering what the action scenes will entail, what jokes will be cracked, and, this being a “Bad Boys” movie, how ridiculous it will all be. With that in mind, I have some thoughts…

Will Smith is back! The Alister’s career has gone through some major ups and downs the past few years, with the pinnacle of each coming at the same Oscars ceremony. He was unofficially suspended from the limelight for a while, but this movie marks his comeback. And I’m glad to have him back, with his blockbuster presence as strong as ever, if not with a sharper edge. Fans are eager to find out if and how the film will

Boys:

Ride or Die” is a good watch

address Smith’s reallife bad boy behavior. I’ll give you this tease: someone gets slapped in this movie.

Martin Lawrence is back too. I don’t have much to say for his star power, but I will praise his performance. Marcus suffers a heart attack early in the movie and spends much of his screentime spouting apparent nonsense about his experience in a coma. In the time since I saw this movie, I have encountered no fewer than two individuals on the New York City subway with similar tendencies. They made me appreciate Lawrence’s cadences in this movie. I don’t know if it’s research or just keen observation, but he’s really got it down.

The evil plan of bad guy McGrath (Eric Dane) involves framing Captain Howard (Joe Pantoliano), Marcus and Mike’s longtime superior who was killed in the last movie. The plan makes zero sense, since it draws attention and scrutiny to crimes that probably would have otherwise gone unnoticed. Howard himself has a sizeable presence in the movie, with everything from memorial photos and news footage to prerecorded messages and appearances during neardeath experiences. We

know the characters miss him, but how can we miss him if he won’t go away?

Howard warns Mike and Marcus that there’s been a decadeslong cartel mole in Miami. Realistically, how many characters could this be? Fellow team members played by Vanessa Hudgens and Alexander Ludwig are too young.

Howard’s daughter (Rhea Seehorn) is a U.S. Marshall that probably doesn’t even live in

Miami. I suppose it could be new captain Secada (Paola Nuñez), but I can’t help but notice that she’s engaged to a smarmy politician (Ioan Gruffudd). Does the movie realize which of these two is the obvious suspect and who would count as subversive?

To get information on the mole, Mike and Marcus have to interview Mike’s imprisoned son Armando (Jacob Scipio) from the last movie. Eventu

ally the three have to work together to combat the bad guys. I was skeptical about bringing Armando back, thinking that the character might not be interesting enough to span multiple movies. But I had nothing to worry about, Scipio makes a good action hero, better than he did a villain.

But Armando’s return has nothing on Reggie (Dennis McDonald), Marcus’s notoriouslybullied, seeminglyunmotivated soninlaw. Turns out Mike isn’t the only one with a family member with action chops. As I was leaving this movie, nobody was talking about Will Smith, everybody was talking about Reggie. And I’ll say that Reggie is just what the movie needs to bump it up to a recommendation. I was on the fence about where I stood on the whole “it’s dumb, but it’s supposed to be dumb” attitude that these movies embrace. But with Reggie, “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” has enough heart to cover the missing brain.
