November is shaping up to be a busy month Update from our President Bevan Edwards

Last Sunday we attended the AGM for Auckland Districts RSA. The timing of this was handy as the National Council meeting for RNZ RSA is coming up in the middle of this week. I would like to congratulate David Dryden for retaining the position of Vice-President North Shore for Auckland Districts. I was also re-elected as Executive for North Shore. This means that our club has particularly good representation in the Auckland Districts RSA.

One of the key matters discussed at that AGM, and one that is on the agenda for National Council, is the new Constitution proposed by RNZ RSA. This is in preparation for reregistering all RSAs under the Incorporated Societies Act 2022, which we must complete by April 2026. For us this means changes to our Constitution and Rules, taking into consideration what RNZ RSA may include.

Changes to our Constitution can only be approved at a General Meeting. As I mentioned previously, there may be as many as three or four General Meetings over the coming year to discuss and approve the changes taking place.

Back to our local club, planning is underway for the Armistice Day Commemoration, which will start at 11am on Sunday 10th November. The Executive Committee selected this date to encourage schools and other community groups to attend. It would be nice to see a

Womens Section

It is time to get creative for the meeting to be held on 5 November. Melbourne Cup Day. We look forward to seeing all of our members wearing their finest hats for this occasion. There will be prizes for the best hat, the best dressed and the funniest hat. We will have a sweepstake and of course a delicious afternoon tea, raffles and the sales table. Joy Bell will entertain us. It promises to be a fun afternoon.

Tickets for our Christmas dinner will be available at the November meeting. These must be purchased by 11 November (no exceptions) as we need to finalise numbers with the caterer. The tickets are $25 and this will give you a

good turnout from our members this year. November is shaping up to be a busy month for the club, which will then lead into a very busy December, as is often the case. The club will once again close for a couple of weeks over Christmas and New Year, giving the staff a well-deserved break. Take a look at what is coming up and consider where you might be able to join in or even help.

lovely Christmas dinner and a drink. We will of course have raffles and door prizes, and Father Christmas may make an appearance. We will have entertainment provided by Megan Clarke – always a favourite.

A reminder that fees are now overdue. 1 July was the start of the new year through to 30 June 2025. The fee for Women’s Section is $10 in addition to the RSA subscription and can be paid at the office.

We look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday the 5th from 12pm.

red Timber

When it comes to choosing the perfect hard flooring for your home, the decision often narrows down to a choice between Laminate and Engineered Timber Both options oer unique benefits and challenges. Making the choice depends on your specific home, lifestyle, needs and preferences

Laminate Flooring

Advantages:

Price: Generally, more aordable than Engineered Timber

Durability: Highly resistant to scratches, stains and fading A great choice for families and sunny homes

Stability: Good resistance to expansion and contraction when exposed to sunlight

Maintenance: Low maintenance and very easy to clean

Variety: Available in a wide range of designs, boards sizes, textures and colours Unlike real timber, because laminate is a man-made product , you can choose the look

Disadvantages:

Feel: Can feel less natural underfoot compared to real timber

Repair: Dicult to repair if damaged; often requires replacing the entire plank or run of planks

Moisture Resistance: While the surface and joins are waterproof or water resistant (depending on the range) we don’t recommend this product for bathrooms, toilets or laundries

Refinishing: Cannot be sanded or refinished

Advantages:

Appearance: Provides the natural beauty and warmth that can only be created with real wood

Durability: More stable than solid wood, with better resistance to changes in temperature and humidity

Refinishing: Can be sanded and refinished, extending its lifespan

Feel: Feels more like traditional hardwood underfoot

Value: Adds higher resale value to a home compared to laminate

Disadvantages:

Price: More expensive than laminate flooring

Installation: While this product can be laid ‘ floating’ we recommend this product is glued to the subfloor All skirting boards will need to be removed

Maintenance: When compared to a laminate, engineered timber requires regular maintenance to keep it looking its best .

Variation: Because each plank is cut from a real tree there can be a lot of variation between planks in things like colour, knots and grain which cannot be controlled (this could be seen as an advantage)

Scratch Resistance: Engineered Timber is more susceptible to scratches and dents compared to laminate

Fade Resistance: Engineered Timber will fade over time, especially in direct sunlight We recommend window coverings and UV tint , reducing the woods exposure to light

Engineered Timber Flooring
