Saturday 21 September 7-10.30pm

Thank you to allthose who turned out to the AGM Update from our new President Bevan Edwards

I would like to start off by thanking all those who turned out to the AGM on Sunday 15 September – your support and concern for the RSA and the future is greatly appreciated.

I also want to thank everyone for the confidence you have shown in me to head the Executive Committee through the coming year. I look forward to what I hope is going to be an interesting and positive year for the RSA.

At the AGM we discussed the Future Options report for the RSA. Many of the members present provided information about the options listed, as well as general thoughts and ideas for the future direction of the RSA. At the end of the discussion, a vote was held and there was an overwhelming majority who chose to remain at the current location. This decision comes with a caveat – something has to change. We are all familiar with the adage from the 1980s, and it was restated at the AGM, “if you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got.”

The Executive Committee meets again at the end of September and will start the process of planning what can be done to achieve these goals. If you have any suggestions for major changes you would like to see, you can use the online form www.hbcrsa.org.nz/futuresuggestion-proposal/) through until the end of October to submit your suggestion. We will only be looking at major changes – small tweaks, such as increasing bar prices or membership

fees, are not going to make enough of a difference.

The intention is for this to be a collaborative process, with the members able to have a say in the future. We must start this process sooner rather than later.

In the meantime, we have lots of other things to plan for, such as Remembrance Sunday (or Armistice Day) and many end-of-year and Christmas events.

For now, come along to the club and enjoy everything it has to offer – terrific facilities, fantastic staff, friendly people, great atmosphere, and a plethora of activities. Bevan Edwards President
