Water conservation continues to be important as temperatures rise

With the temperatures beginning to heat up, now is a great time to brush up on the guidelines when it comes to irrigation or sprinkler systems:

• There is no watering with irrigation systems or sprinkler systems between 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.

• Although there are two allowable days, you don’t have to water if your landscape does not need it.

• Watering by hand-held hose, drip irrigation, or soaker hose is allowed at any time.

• No more than two hours per day maximum is encouraged.

WATERING SCHEDULE

Monday

No watering allowed

Tuesday & Friday

Non-residential sites (apartments, business, parks, common areas)

Wednesday & Saturday

Residential addresses ending in 0, 2, 4, 6, 8

Thursday & Sunday

Residential addresses ending in 1, 3, 5, 7, 9

Everyone plays a part in using water wisely. If you see a water violation, please contact our 24-hour SCADA/Dispatch Center at 817-788-7212 to record the location, time, and date of the actual violation. It only takes a few minutes and can prevent millions of gallons of water from being wasted.

Good Neighbor Reminders

We’re sharing some friendly reminders to help us all be good neighbors!

• Residential or developed, non-residential property must keep weeds and grass shorter than eight inches tall. Sweeping or blowing lawn and garden debris into the street is prohibited, as is allowing grass or weeds to grow over the curb.

• City Code prohibits garbage from accumulating on or in any property. This includes but is not limited to waste matter, trash, debris, dirt, dry grass, dead trees, tin cans, paper, etc., that may become a fire hazard or a menace to health, safety, and welfare.

• If you have a pool, spa, or other water receptacles at your residence, it’s important that you maintain it so that it doesn’t become offensive or health concern for neighbors or passersby.

• Property owners should not park an automobile, truck, or any other motor vehicle or trailer for over 48 hours when the vehicle or trailer is without one or more wheels or is apparently inoperative for any reason, including not having registration or current inspection.

Annual Hurst Citizen

We recently completed our annual survey and reported the results to the City Council during their annual strategic planning retreat. Thank you to those who participated in the survey! Your input is valuable and helps contribute to the planning of our annual budget.

Here are some of the results we found:

• Hurst residents are satisfied with the quality of life in the city!

• Citizens ranked the strategic priorities most important to them. Public Safety and Infrastructure were ranked the highest.

• When commenting about the issues around the city, citizens said that want

extra focus on public safety and the quality of roads and streets. The condition of streets, properties in need of repair, door-to-door salespeople, and sidewalk conditions were most often selected by survey takers when asked about which city issues were major concerns.

• The highest-rated departments include Fire Services, Ambulance/EMS, and Police Services, followed by garbage and recycling collection, Library Services, Parks & Recreation, and the Hurst Conference Center.

“Animal Services is wonderful!”

HEB Youth in Government Graduates celebrate program completion

The 2023 HEB Youth in Government class celebrated their graduation in April! This year, 19 students went through the program and gained a better understanding of the impact local government has on the community while building relationships with each other and city staff and officials. Since January, participants have been meeting at various city facilities in Hurst, Euless, and Bedford twice a month, learning about police and fire services, voting and elections, potential career fields,

and more! We are grateful for the partnership between the three cities and the HEB Chamber of Commerce to offer this opportunity to local high school juniors and seniors. We are also grateful to Republic Services for graciously providing the college scholarships each year!

Information on the 2024 HEB Youth in Government program will be available later this year on the HEB Chamber’s website. Congratulations to our graduates!

Hurst Gives Back

On April 21, City of Hurst team members spent the day serving a neighbor in need while promoting property pride in our city!

City volunteers partnered with 6Stones to help renovate the exterior of a Hurst resident’s home. The CPR program is designed to assist those homeowners who are in the greatest need of assistance and are unable to perform the necessary work themselves. Certain guidelines must be met before a homeowner will be considered eligible for assistance through the CPR program.

WHERE WE LIVE | SUMMER 2023 12

Dozens of city volunteers donated their time and abilities to perform scraping, painting, landscaping, and garbage removal for a disabled senior veteran who has lived in Hurst for 18 years.

The estimated investment in his property came out to around $15,000 in improvements! We have partnered with 6Stones for years to help serve residents needing home repairs and have recently added a new element to help expand our reach to neighbors surrounding the home where more extensive work is being done. City Council Members and staff went door-to-door and offered curb address painting, the hanging of American flags, and a potted plant for their front porch. It was a great day of serving and building relationships with neighbors!

Know anyone who could benefit from the CPR program? They can sign up at hursttx.gov/CPR. We look forward to seeing how this program continues to evolve in the future.
