We wish you and your families the best in 2022 and look forward to another great year of golf at PPCC! It’s that time of year again where we all have lists of resolutions we wish to accomplish during the New Year. Your professional staff came up with some simple New Year’s resolutions surrounding the game of golf we strongly encourage you to consider.

I’m not talking about improving with the latest equipment or swing change, despite multiple demo days in January and February, which we hope you join us for! No, I’m talking about simple practices that every player should be aware of every time they play. In fact, if every player were aware, our greens would be smoother, our tees and fairways healthier, and more of your putts would find the bottom of the hole. Please consider this short list of resolutions all players should have this year to support our Pride of Ownership initiatives.

We thank you for doing your part by following these simple guidelines, so we can continue to have the exceptional playing surfaces and golf experience you have come to expect at PPCC. Thank you for respecting the game, the golf course and each other.

We would also like to congratulate our very own PPCC Director of Instruction Karen Davies on her selection as an LPGA Top 50 instructor for the 5th year in a row! A wonderful recognition and well deserved! Make sure you take advantage of Karen’s abilities to help you improve your game and have more fun in 2022!

PPCC Members Buzz Wisda and George Chesley also recently brought recognition to the Club after their fine play at the 24th annual Arizona Golf Association Club Team Championship.

They carded a 7-under par 65 to take home low gross honors in the Super Senior Flight. Way to play guys!

• I resolve to find my ball mark on the green and fix it properly, every time, even if I park far away from where my shot landed. If my ball hits the front of the green, I will make sure to find the ball mark and fix it.

The New Year also brings the beginning of tournament play at PPCC, with the return of our season-long Ladies’ and Men’s Foursomes Match Play and Couples Four-Ball Match Play.

• I resolve to fill all my divots and any others I see in overseeded areas, every time, even on par-3 teeing grounds.

- 1/17/2022 – Mizuno Fitting Day

• I resolve to maintain pace of play at 3 hours and 45 minutes or less and keep up with the group in front of me regardless of where the group behind me may be.

• I resolve to post my score every time I play in accordance with the PPCC Handicap Committee Policies and Procedures.

• And finally, I resolve to make all the above a part of my golf game every time I play.

Swing into 2022 with the Women’s Golf Association! As the winter golf season kicks into high gear, we can all look forward to some great golf and comradery. January includes four weeks of fun weekly play leading into February and the beginning of the annual tournament schedule.

Happy New Year! If you’re looking to play more golf in 2022, join us on Monday mornings for the NINERS 9-hole ladies golf league. We tee off with a shotgun start at 9am, and enjoy lunch together after play in the clubhouse where we give out the prizes. We are a fun group of women who love to welcome new members regardless of playing ability. Our focus is on enjoying the game, making new friends, and taking in the beautiful Arizona sunshine. Call Drew in the Golf Shop to learn more.

The women’s club championship, sponsored by PPCC and supported by the WGA, is 36-hole individual stroke play and is scheduled for February 25 and 26. It is flighted and players of all abilities are encouraged to participate. The highlight of the WGA golf season is the Salida Del Sol member/guest tournament. It is being held this year March 8, 9 and 10. Registration opens in ForeTees starting January 15. Don’t miss the biggest WGA event of the year!

HOLIDAY GOLF LUNCHEON The PPCC WGA recently held their Holiday Golf and Luncheon where they raised money for three area charities. More than $1,500 was donated to Foothills Food Bank, Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center and Arizona Friends of Foster Children Foundation.

As we begin a New Year, and I reflect on the condition of our club, the word grateful comes to mind. Some may say that we have been lucky to be in this place, and I must agree we all need some good fortune in our journeys through life; however, I would like to recognize some of the areas over which we do have some control.

As we begin 2022, I would like to thank our Board of Directors and in particular our outgoing directors – Pat Baraya, Rollie Benjamin, and Rick Goldenson – for their exceptional performance over the last three years. It has truly been a pleasure to work with all of them. Our Annual Membership Meeting will be held on Saturday, January 22nd at 4 p.m. at the Highlands Church High School Room located at 9050 E. Pinnacle Peak Road. We invite all Members to attend this meeting. Voting packages have been sent to all Members by email, and packets will be available at Diane’s desk. If you are an Equity Member and eligible to vote, be sure to review and cast your ballot per the instructions. The deadline to return the ballot and/or proxy is Friday, January 21st at 3pm.

Let me begin by being grateful for our membership. We have a wonderful and diverse group of members who truly enjoy the friendships and camaraderie that exists at our club. We may be the best social club in the valley. Currently, our membership is full, and we have about 80 folks on the wait list. I would like to thank Diane Gregg and all the members who have served on the Membership Committee over the years for their great work.

Also, I am grateful for our clubhouse facility. The remodel that was undertaken several years ago was a remarkable accomplishment by the leadership at that time. I would like to thank Mike Lyon and his staff for the great work they do in maintaining the club and serving our membership. Thank you Brandon for the great dining experience you and your staff consistently deliver to the PPCC membership and guests.

Once again, I am grateful for our beautiful golf course. I believe I can say that the Bunker Renovation Project (BRP) was a great success.

I would like to thank the leadership that accomplished this project, the membership for your approval, and a special thanks to Cody Horstman and his staff who were active in every phase of the BRP. Also, thank you to Drew Darrow and his staff for the great work they do orchestrating our daily golf activities and the numerous special events.

I will be departing the Board of Directors January 22, when three new board members and a new slate of officers assume their duties. I thank the membership for your friendship and support; the staff from A to Z for what you do to make PPCC a special club; the great Board with whom I have had the pleasure to serve; and lastly, Doc Belitz, a talented, one-of-kind general manager and leader. Doc, I cannot thank you enough for the support you have given me and the great work you do for PPCC. It has been for me a rewarding three years on the Board and my past year as President.

I want to thank our Members for being so incredibly supportive of Pinnacle Peak Country Club’s annual employee holiday fund as well as the toys and gifts for the Sojourner Center.

Looking forward, I would like to remind our Members that the Club will be open on Valentine’s Day (Monday, February 14) with fabulous prefix dinner with multiple options. We hope you celebrate this holiday, as we will begin the evening with complimentary champagne upon arrival. Wine down Wednesday’s will return in late February when the weather warms up and the patio doors can be opened again.

As many of you know, Pinnacle Peak Country Club is operating at full capacity, and we look forward to a busy year. Please note, we continue to face challenges with finding employees and the need for employees to remain away from work if they are not feeling well until they can receive results of COVID testing. This can cause some acute shortages; we appreciate your patience when this happens.
