If you’ve been in Scottsdale all summer, you’re as excited as I am to finally feel temperatures headed in the right direction! It was a long, hot summer, but not hot enough to keep our hearty PPCC Members from playing regularly and working on their games. It’s great to see such an active summer Membership, and we look forward to the return of those Members who spent their summers in cooler temperatures.
• Tee times begin 7:30A each morning
• Book as early as 7A, seven days in advance on ForeTees.
• Call the Golf Shop for technical assistance
Recently we held our fifth-annual Gentlemen’s BROILER Summer Member-Guest and what a success it was. We had a full field of 104 players competing in this two-day tournament with various 9-hole formats. Congratulations to our 2022 BROILER Overall Champions Rue Bax and guest Joe Affrunti for their excellent play and victory in what has proven to be a favorite tournament for many and a great summer tradition. Thank you to all who played!
Congratulations are also due to Baxter Baldwin, our 2022 Overall Men’s Summer Derby Champion. Winning just one of the weekly Derbies is an accomplishment alone, but Baxter’s exceptional play put him in the winner’s circle three times throughout the season! He had the trophy all but secured before our final Derby of the year, with Eric Waszolek and Mike Dominick in a close tie for second place honors. Thank you to everyone who supported this fun weekly event throughout the summer.
The Golf Course is now closed for overseeding and will reopen on Friday, October 21st with regular tee times beginning at 7:30 AM. As has been the case in the past, tee time reservations can be made 7 days in advance beginning at 7:00 AM on ForeTees or by calling the Golf Shop. Our ForeTees mobile App provides a fast and easy way to access ForeTees to book tee times, register for events and schedule instruction.
Many of you may have heard by now that our outstanding Assistant Golf Professional Tyler James has taken on a new position at the Northwood Club in Dallas and will not be returning for the season. We wish him great success in his new endeavor. We also are excited to introduce you to the new members of our professional staff – Boston Richardson, Kyle Doiron and James Bickle – who many may already know from Forest Highlands. I am confident that all of them will be very well received by the PPCC Membership.
Stay tuned for lots of upcoming communication on our Ladies and Men’s Member-Member tournaments to kick the season off!
The worst of the summer monsoons are behind us, but unfortunately, they created some unwanted challenges. I asked our Golf Course Superintendent, Cody Horstman, to write a brief explanation about what he and his crew faced regarding the greens this summer.
“This summer, the sustained monsoon conditions, high humidity, dew points, and temperatures took their toll on our greens. Bentgrass is a cool season grass, and its primary region of use is typically a cooler environment. PPCC’s location would be considered borderline for bentgrass sustainability through the summer months. As a result, there are physical lim itations to its ability to survive summer conditions in Arizona. This year, the weather and high volume of play tested those limitations and unfortunately, a few spots on several of the greens suffered some damage. The greens that had fans installed outperformed the greens without fans. However, there will be spots on a few greens that will need to be repaired during the fall as the weather returns to favorable bentgrass conditions. We ask for your patience and under standing as the repairs are completed.”
I am also asking everyone to have patience with this repair process, and let Cody, his crew, and Mother Nature do their jobs so the greens can return to their normally, beautiful condition.
I am looking forward to seeing many of you at the Season Kickoff Party on October 28th and seeing everyone back at the club!

Huge “congratulations” to our own Marci DuBois! She participated in the 60th U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur held July 30 – August 4 at Anchorage Golf Course, Anchorage, Alaska. To get there, she emerged as one of 132 ladies from a qualifying field of thousands who attempted to make the championship.
Marci fired rounds of 81-80, 17-over par, to finish T52, advancing to the match play round of 64 where the 57 seed lost 6 and 5 to the No. 8 seed.
“It was an amazing experience and made us proud!” said Joe Dubois, Marci’s husband and caddie for both the qualifier and championship.
PROUD INDEED: Especially since it was her very first attempt to compete in a USGA tournament, ever. ANOTHER FIRST: it also marked the first USGA championship held in Alaska.
Although USGA qualifying tournaments have been held in Alaska, the 2022 U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur was the rst championship.

Congratulations, Jose Mancillas! A Phoenix native who joined the team in 2005, Jose has served in many roles for 17 years. His exceptional attitude, experience and personality spreads a positive vibe across the clubhouse, as he greets everyone with a smile. When not working, Jose enjoys time spent with his wife and four children as well as staying busy with many other interests.
Congratulations Kimmy Taraborrelli ! You continues to exceed our expectations. The Pittsburgh native relocated to the Valley of the Sun in 1998, serving various club-wide roles for the past 16 years. She brings a positive attitude to the workplace, never hesitating to go above and beyond. She also enjoys dog sitting for our members and spending off-road time in her Jeep.
Congratulations Desiderio Gomez! A vital part of the team for 35 years, we thank Desiderio for decades of dedication. Although there isn’t a piece of equipment or task he cannot perform, he now specializes as our irrigation team leader, whose experience recently averted a potential loss of turf on several golf holes and the driving range by tirelessly working the problem until it was fixed.
Kevin Jones continues to perform at a high level, completing all his assigned work in a timely manner as well as taking on new assignments. He continues to help in every department as needed without looking for any gratitude, and he’s a pleasure to work with, as he’s always motivated to do what is needed. Kevin is well deserving as employee of the month for his continued effort and professionalism.

Pinnacle Peak Country Club Member Debbie Duffy passed away on September 2, 2022. Debbie was a member for over nine years.
After a very successful tenure as our club’s General Manager, Doc Belitz headed to Arizona CC as of October 1st. Doc's time at PPCC has been filled with many positive changes, growth and, I believe, an overall greater enjoyment of the Club by the members and staff. Doc will be greatly missed and we wish him great success in his new position.
We are making great progress in our search for our new GM. We have been receiving résumés since mid-August and the GM Search Committee has started the interview process with potential applicants. As we have more information moving forward, we will continue to update everyone.
The Board has full respect and trust in our Management Team and their staff to continue to manage their departments and keep operations running smoothly until the new GM is on board Accordingly, our approach until the new GM is in place is to continue operations without naming an interim GM. I will be available to assist the Management Team and participate in their meetings, as needed, to support them.
If you have questions or concerns that would normally go directly to the General Manager, please send your email to Jennifer Meekins at jmeekins@pp-cc.org, and she will forward the email to myself, Mark Kuntz, Board President. If you have a question or concern that is confidential in nature please reach out to me directly at mkuntz@pp-cc.org. Please use the club email address for all club business and not my personal email, so that I do not miss them.
We appreciate your patience during our transition period to a new General Manager.
Sincerely, Mark Kuntz, President Behalf of PPCC Board of Directors
As my time as the General Manager at Pinnacle Peak Country Club has come to a close, I wanted to take a moment to let you know how much I have enjoyed my time here – and you’ve all played a part in that. It has been an honor and a pleasure getting to know everyone over the past 8 years, and I will cherish the relationships, friendships, and wonderful memories forever.
Pinnacle Peak Country Club embraces a fabulous culture where in time of need, the membership pulls together; and in good times, the membership celebrates and enjoys the club and each other! I am blessed to have been a part of this wonderful Club and I will miss you all!
Warmest Regards, Doc
