In October, Communications and Social Media Coordinator Avery Joens shared important information before, during, and after Hurricane Milton. Graciously, we didn’t see too much damage here in Sebastian. During a storm, you will find the most up-to-date information on our social media pages Be sure to follow us on Instagram and Facebook to stay in the know!
Aside from hurricane communications, Avery was sure to capture all the fun later that month at the Sebastian Police Department's community Night Out and Cit’y's Halloween Event! See some of our favorite photos below.

In October, everyone came together for the Sebastian Police Department Community Night Out. At this annual event, residents had the opportunity to meet with multiple law enforcement agencies across Indian River County to learn more about them and their work. The community also came together in October for the city’s Halloween Costume Contest. The COPE Unit showed the movie Coco and provided popcorn and snowcones to the children and families in attendance. See some photos from these vents below!
This past month, the Sebastian Police Department welcomed a new officer, Brandon Keiser We are excited for Officer Keiser to join the department, and we wish him a long and successful career!
November 2 | Junior Blue Water Open at Twin Piers 10 am
November 8-10 | Sebastian Clambake
November 14 | ORC Restoration Turkey Bowl, 3-8 pm (401 Sebastian Blvd.)
November 22 | Walmart Turkey Drive for St. Sebastian Church, 9 am-2 pm
Police Officers start their work day by declaring 10-8 over the radio to the dispatch center and 10-7 when their shift is complete at the end of the day. When an officer graduates from the academy, there is a practice where the academy class is announced as 10-8 for their career. As someone retires, their last 10-7 transmission is somewhat ceremonial.
Congratulations on retiring from your lengthy career, Deputy Chief Witt. You will be missed by us all at the department and the city! We hope you enjoy this next exciting chapter of life.
The City of Sebastian has partnered with United Way of Indian River County and FPL to bring the Born Learning Trail to Easy Street Park in Sebastian!
Born Learning Trails encourage growth and stimulation so children can learn as they play Each trail is a series of 10 interactive signs that offer fun, active learning activities for young children and their families. The trails have painted images on the ground that coincide with the walkway signs guiding parents to ask their kids to jump, clap, look, touch, and so much more. By participating, kids are exercising and learning, which causes their brains to work more efficiently and productively.
