The City of Sebastian extends its heartfelt gratitude to Council Member Kelly Dixon for her dedicated service to our community. After serving two impactful terms on the City Council, Kelly leaves a lasting legacy marked by her unwavering commitment to the residents of Sebastian, especially its youngest citizens. Her passion for creating more kid-focused events and programs brought fresh energy and inclusion to our city’s recreational offerings, and her efforts have helped make Sebastian a more welcoming, family-friendly place for all.
Kelly’s devotion to public service is rooted in a lifelong drive to make a difference. A proud graduate of Sebastian River High School, she has always balanced hard work, leadership, and a deep sense of civic responsibility. Her background in broadcast journalism, education, and volunteerism brought a thoughtful, wellrounded perspective to the Council. From starting a local Girl Scout troop to volunteering in our schools and serving on the PTA, Kelly’s fingerprints are all over the community she loves. We thank her for her service, her vision, and the example she has set for future leaders in Sebastian.
The start of June means the beginning of the hurricane season. Now is the time for residents to prepare. Follow the City of Sebastian on social media for essential preparedness tips and updates. The City will provide its most timely updates through social media in the event of a storm or emergency, so follow us to stay informed.
The beginning of June also means the start of the Indian River County Fertilizer Ban. Check out the video below with Communications and Social Media Coordinator, Avery Joens, to learn more about what this means for residents.
Hi Sebastian!
I’m honored to introduce myself as a new member of the City of Sebastian team. I bring over nine years of experience in public service, with a background in crime scene investigation, evidence management, and administrative operations.
Before joining Sebastian, I worked with the Palm Bay Police Department, where I served as the Materials Management Supervisor and later as the Crime Scene and Evidence Supervisor. These roles allowed me to develop a strong foundation in forensic procedures, records management, and internal process improvement skills I’m excited to apply in service to this community.
It’s been a pleasure getting to know the team here, and I’m truly looking forward to contributing to the city’s continued success. I’m grateful for the warm welcome and look forward to serving the residents of Sebastian.

In a city as active and community-minded as Sebastian, staying informed and connected matters. That’s why the City’s Audio/Visual (AV) Services team plays a vital behind-the-scenes role, making it possible for residents to experience public meetings and community events from anywhere.
Each month, the AV team broadcasts and records most City Council, Planning & Zoning, and other advisory board meetings. These sessions are streamed live and archived on the City’s website and YouTube channel, ensuring that anyone who wants to follow what’s happening in Sebastian has an easy way to do so.
To further support transparency and engagement, Zoom is also used during many meetings to promote real-time public participation. Whether you’re at home, at work, or out of town, residents can tune in, ask questions, and make public comments all without setting foot in City Hall.
Beyond government meetings, the AV Services team helps preserve and share the community moments that matter most. From Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies to POW/MIA tributes, the team ensures these events are respectfully recorded and broadcast for all to see, bringing our community together, even when we’re apart.
And when it’s time to celebrate, the AV team is on hand to broadcast local favorites, such as our Fourth of July fireworks show, so everyone, including those who can’t attend in person, can enjoy the festivities.
Transparency, accessibility, and community pride are at the heart of what we do. By using video technology and platforms like Zoom to connect residents with their government and community, we strengthen civic trust and foster a stronger, more connected Sebastian.
So the next time you tune into a board meeting, join a Zoom session, or watch the fireworks light up the night sky, know there’s a dedicated AV crew behind it all, helping you stay informed, engaged, and proud to call Sebastian home.
Wednesday, June 11, and Thursday, June 12, air-jecting of greens will take place. Air-jecting involves a highly specialized machine that forces wet sand down into the subsurface of the greens, typically pushing the damp sand as far down as 5 feet. As the sand is forced down, several “fractures” of the subsoil are created, and these “fractures” help oxygen levels within the root zones, break up roots, and thus create additional roots and also help alleviate compaction. Minimal disruption to the putting turf will occur in this process.
On June 16, look for the installation of a new Snack Shack behind #9 green and immediately to the east of the clubhouse.

The Sebastian Municipal Golf Course did 4,215 rounds in April, bringing in $126,914.
This is the new/upgraded Automated Weather Observation System (AWOS) for Sebastian Municipal Airport. The system was made possible with a grant from FDOT, and carries the very latest weather sensor capabilities, including Windspeed & Direction, Cloud Ceilings, Visibility, Barometric Pressure, and Lightning Detection. Local and incoming pilots use these reporting systems to determine weather conditions for flight planning in and around the Sebastian airport. They can access the data directly via recorded messages on a specific flight frequency or by phone. This system also uploads our weather parameters to the National Airspace Data Interchange Network (NADIN), which then disseminates Flight Plan Data to Flight Service Stations, Air Route Traffic Control Centers, US Military Base Operations, and International Civil Aviation Authorities. Our data updates constantly to ensure the information is always fresh and relevant. DBT Transportation Services installed the AWOS in mid-April, with FAA oversight.
