Social Media & Communications Update
In September, Communications and Social Media Coordinator Avery Joens captured all the fun at the city’s first-ever Touch and Tour event! See some of our favorite photos from the event below.
This past month, Florida was hit with a major hurricane. Thankfully, here in Sebastian, we were far from its path. Yet communications on possible impacts and threats to our residents was a top priority. Be sure to follow us on Instagram and Facebook for future storm updates
If you have an idea for our social media, reach out to Avery Joens at ajoens@cityofsebastian.org or 772-228-7074

Active Shooter Training

Sergea Dean of the Sebastian Police Department conducted active shooter training for City Hall and Public Works employees
In today’s world, workplace safety involves more than just accident prevention; it now includes active shooter preparedness. While active shooter incidents remain statistically rare, their devasting impact makes it essential for employers and employees to be prepared for the worst. Active shooter training is a critical component of a comprehensive workplace safety strategy designed to educate and empower employees to respond effectively in the event of such an emergency.
Active shooter training aims to equip employees with the knowledge and skills to react quickly and effectively in a life-threatening situation. Confusion and panic can quickly take over during an active shooter event, so understanding what to do can save lives.
Many businesses now include active shooter training in their overall emergency response plans. While the hope is that such training will never be needed, preparing for the possibility can increase employee confidence, minimize panic, and ensure that the city is taking proactive steps to protect its staff

Best Practices for Submitting Bid Proposals
Review all documents | The first common mistake vendors make is not reviewing all relevant documents. Sometimes, vendors miss addenda, which can include important updates such as answers to questions, closing date changes, and specification changes. The best practice is always to check the solicitation notice for any updates before submitting your response
Submit electronic responses early | Another common mistake suppliers make is submitting their bids before closing. Don’t let yourself get into the unfortunate situation of a technical issue occurring right before the deadline, and you are unable to submit on time.
Proofread the bid or RFP response | One crucial mistake a supplier can make is not reviewing and proofreading their bid proposal or RFP response before submitting it. Make sure you double-check the price and that the attached documents have accurate information about your business.
