THEROAD AHEAD
Shaping Navasota’s Future Together

Navasota is on the move - and the journey toward a stronger, smarter, and more connectedfuturehasofficiallybegun.
Earlierthissummer,theCityofNavasotalaunchedtheupdatetoitsComprehensive Plan,avitalroadmapthatwillguidegrowth,development,andcommunitypriorities foryearstocome.Thisplanisn’tjustaboutzoningmapsorinfrastructure;it’sabout thepeoplewhocallNavasotahomeandthevisiontheyshareforthecity’sfuture.
WHEREWE’VEBEEN
The planning process began with a joint kickoff meeting between City Council and thePlanning&ZoningCommission,followedbyawell-attendedtownhallmeeting whereresidentssharedtheirhopesandconcernsforNavasota’sfuture TheCityhas also gathered input through an online survey over the last several months, which remainsopenforsubmissionsuntilSundayOctober12,2025.
Fromtheseearlyconversations,severalkeythemeshaveemerged:
Housing: Residents voiced a strong desire for more diverse and attainable housing options, especially for seniors, working families, and early-career individuals. There’s also support for revitalizing aging homes and preserving neighborhoodcharacter.
Growth&Preservation:Navasota’ssmall-towncharmisdeeplyvalued.Citizens emphasized the importance of smart, intentional growth that protects historic areas,naturalfeatures,andtheintegrityofexistinginfrastructure.

EconomicDevelopment:There’sasharedvisionforathrivinglocaleconomy;one that supports existing businesses, attracts new opportunities, and celebrates Navasota’suniqueculturalandhistoricalassets.
Connectivity & Safety: Improving transportation access, especially in areas divided by railroads, and enhancing pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure were toppriorities.Residentsalsohighlightedtheneedforbetterstreetlighting,signage, andemergencyserviceaccess.
CommunityPartnership:Aboveall,there’sacallfortransparency,collaboration, andongoingengagement Citizenswanttobepartoftheprocess,andtheCityis committedtomakingthathappen.
These insights will help shape the draft goals and objectives that will guide the Comprehensive Plan update, ensuring it reflects the values and priorities of the community.
WHAT’SNEXT?
Over the coming months, the City will continue to engage with residents through additional townhalls, workshops, and outreach efforts. All feedback will inform the development of a Comprehensive Plan that supports balanced growth, economic vitality,andahighqualityoflife.

This Fire Prevention Week, the Navasota Fire Department encouragesourcommunitytoBuy,Charge,andRecyclesafely.
BuySafely ChargeSafely RecycleSafely Look for safety certification marks (UL, ETL, CSA) and buy only from trusted sources.
Recyclebatteriesat approvedlocations; neverplacethemin thetrashorregular recyclingbins. Usethecorrect charger,chargeona hardsurface,unplug whenfull,andstop usingthedeviceifit showssignsof damageor overheating.

Keep Navasota Clean & Green This Holiday Season
Theholidayseasonisabusytime,andwithyardwork,decorating,andfamilygatherings,it’s importanttokeepinmindtheservicesthathelpuskeepNavasotalookingitsbest.
YARD WASTE
Yard waste is collected curbside twice a month, with pickup taking place on the 1st and 3rd weeks for residents north of Washington Avenue and on the 2nd and 4th weeks for thosesouthofWashingtonAvenue Pilesshouldbelimitedto10cubicyards,withlimbsno larger than 12 inches in diameter, and must be neatly stacked at the curb with the limbs parallel to the street. Please avoid placing piles within four feet of cars, mailboxes, hydrants, or other utilities, and remember that stumps are not accepted. Smaller amountsofleaves,clippings,orbrushmaybeplacedinyourRepublicServicestrashcart. Forthosewhoprefer,yardwastemayalsobedroppedoffattheBrushFacility,locatedat 9911CR415,openonSaturdaysfrom9am to4pm
BULK WASTE
Bulkyhouseholditemssuchasfurniture,mattresses,andappliancescanbedroppedoff at the Recycle Station located at 501 5th Street. The facility is open every Saturday from 9a.m.to5p.m.,andresidentsmaybringuptofourlargeitemsperload.Pleasenotethat householdtrash,yardwaste,constructiondebris,andtiresarenotacceptedatthissite.
RECYCLING STATION
The Recycling Station, located at 501 5th Street, is open every Saturday from 9 am to 5 p.m. Residents can drop off paper, flattened cardboard, plastics labeled #1 and #2, and aluminumcans.Allcontainersshouldberinsedcleanwithlidsremovedbeforerecycling, andmaterialsmustbeplacedinsidethebins itemsleftoutsidewillnotbecollected.

To stay informed about any changes to the trash or yard waste schedule during the holiday season, residents are encouraged to visit the City’s website or sign up for NavNotifyforreal-timeupdates.

Theholidayseasonisatimeforfamily,celebrations,andtravel,butit’salsoatimewhen crime and accidents can increase. The Navasota Police Department wants to ensure that you and your loved ones stay safe this holiday season by keeping a few important safetytipsinmind.
At home, remember that burglars often look for signs that a house is empty or unattended.Packagesleftontheporch,lightsthatstayoffforseveraldays,orvaluables left in plain sight inside a vehicle can all make you a target To help protect yourself, bring deliveries inside quickly, keep doors and windows locked, and make use of timers orsmartlightingtogivetheappearancethatsomeoneishome.NavasotaPoliceOfficers also encourage residents to report any suspicious activity right away by calling the department’snon-emergencylineat(936)825-6410,or9-1-1inanemergency.
Ifyouareplanningtotravelthisholidayseason,alittlepreparationgoesalongway.Ask atrustedneighbororfriendtokeepaneyeonyourproperty,collectyourmail,ormove packages out of sight. You can also place a hold on your mail through the U.S. Postal Service. Before leaving, double-check that all doors and windows are secured, alarms are set, and don’t share your travel plans publicly on social media. While you’re on the road,buckleup,allowextratimeforholidaytraffic,andneverdrivewhileimpaired.
