The Monroe Parks and Recreation Department relies heavily on volunteer youth sport coaches to help provide our participants with quality athletic experiences. Anyone interested in volunteering as a head or assistant coach should contact Rae Moore at 704.282.4663 or rlmoore@monroenc.org. Volunteers are always needed! All volunteers must undergo a background screening prior to the start of each sport specific season. Use the QR code at right to apply.

DICKERSON RECREATION COMPLEX OUTDOOR RESTROOMS RENOVATION
Dickerson Recreation Complex Outdoor Restrooms received a much needed facelift. The renovation includes new bathroom amenities, a new roof, fresh paint, and control link automatic locks.
SUNSET PARK DOG PARK
We are very excited to provide our community with it’s first dog park. This dog park is close to completion. The dog park will provide access to an area for small and large dogs, as well as, water fountains within each section. Users will also be provided an enclosed leashing station to make sure you and your pup stay safe!
SUNSET PARK OUTDOOR BASKETBALL COURTS
The outdoor courts at Sunset Park received some awesome upgrades this fall. We added color and style to a popular outdoor basketball court. The park will feature two beautiful full courts! Come out and enjoy them today! This renovation is in addition to the newly renovated outdoor courts at Dickerson Recreation Complex. Court renovations at Creft Park are in the works in the immediate future!

PARENT’S CODE OF CONDUCT
The overall success of the youth athlete is highly dependent on parental involvement and example. Parents play a critical role in shaping and supporting the athlete and respective success levels. As such, parents of youth players in Monroe Parks and Recreation Youth Athletic Leagues must also commit to a code of conduct. Inclusions of the Parent Code of Conduct are:
• I hereby pledge to provide positive support, care and encouragement for all children participating in youth sports by following this Code of Conduct.
• I will encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches and officials at every game, practice or other youth sports events.
• I will place the emotional and physical well-being of my child and other children ahead of any personal desire to win.
• I will insist that my child play in a safe and healthy environment.
• I will provide support for coaches and officials working with my child to provide a positive, enjoyable experience for all.
• I will demand a drug, alcohol and tobacco-free sports environment for my child and agree to assist by refraining from their use at all youth sports events.
• I will remember that the game is for children and not for adults.

Experience: I am certified through the Red Cross as a Lifeguard, Lifeguard Instructor and as a CPR/First Aid/ AED instructor. I founded a non-profit Mommies group in Union County and operated that program for 7 years. I have been involved with cub scouts, boy scouts and girl scouts for the past 6 years. My work experience includes teaching preschool, as well as, experience as a 2nd grade teacher’s assistant. I began my career with Monroe Parks and Recreation at the Monroe Aquatics and Fitness Center and worked there for 13 years before moving to the Dickerson Community Center in January of 2019 as the Center Supervisor.
Hobbies: I love DIY projects and enjoy making YouTube “How to” videos. I love making fun crafts from Pinterest and enjoy making everyday items. Why buy them when you can make them?
Why do I work in Parks and Recreation? I love the Monroe community. I grew up in New York, but it reminds me of my home town. I love being able to watch the children in our programs grow and being a positive part of their lives. Favorite thing about working in Parks and Recreation: The kid in me gets to play every day!
Fun fact about myself: I moved to Monroe, North Carolina from Monroe, New York, so people get confused when I tell them where I am from. I always have to clarify which one!

Ray Shute Center.

Hobbies: My hobbies include interior decorating, especially “tablescapes”, vintage shopping and travel! Why do I work in Parks and Recreation? PHILIP E. BAZEMORE ACTIVE ADULT CENTER
In July of 2021, Monroe City Council approved funding in the amount of $3.5 million dollars to renovate the Enquirer Journal building in to a new and improved active living facility for senior adults. Crews have worked tirelessly to maintain an aggressive schedule of completion and we are so excited for this new facility to open. The 21,440 square foot facility should be available early in 2023 and includes state of the art audio/visual equipment, a small cardio room, a computer lab, several multi purpose activity and class rooms, a woodworking area, a ceramics and pottery area, a large group fitness room, a cozy lobby for socialization and coffee, and a large rentable event space for the community. Programs include active opportuinities, as well as, resourcebased opportunities that can assist users with daily tasks, as well as, the ability to learn something new! The facility is located at 500 West Jefferson Street in Downtown Monroe.
