KIMBERLY SCOTT

DICKERSON RECREATION COMPLEX

Years of service: 16 years Experience: I am certified through the Red Cross as a Lifeguard, Lifeguard Instructor and as a CPR/First Aid/ AED instructor. I founded a non-profit Mommies group in Union County and operated that program for 7 years. I have been involved with cub scouts, boy scouts and girl scouts for the past 6 years. My work experience includes teaching preschool, as well as, experience as a 2nd grade teacher’s assistant. I began my career with Monroe Parks and Recreation at the Monroe Aquatics and Fitness Center and worked there for 13 years before moving to the Dickerson Community Center in January of 2019 as the Center Supervisor. Hobbies: I love DIY projects and enjoy making YouTube “How to” videos. I love making fun crafts from Pinterest and enjoy making everyday items. Why buy them when you can make them?

Why do I work in Parks and

Recreation? I love the Monroe community. I grew up in New York, but it reminds me of my home town. I love being able to watch the children in our programs grow and being a positive part of their lives.

Favorite thing about working in

Parks and Recreation: The kid in me gets to play every day! Fun fact about myself: I moved to Monroe, North Carolina from Monroe, New York, so people get confused when I tell them where I am from. I always have to clarify which one! GET TO KNOW OUR COMMUNITY CENTER SUPERVISORS!

J. RAY SHUTE COMMUNITY CENTER

Years of Service: 6 years Experience: Prior to coming to Monroe Parks and Rwecreation I attended Livingstone College. I worked 11 years with Mecklenburg County Crisis Assistance Ministry as assistant manager of furniture division and 9 years with Union County in the solid waste division and Public Works as assistant warehouse manager water department and worked part time as a building attendant at the J. Ray Shute Center. Hobbies: My hobbies include small home remodeling projects, working on cars and marching band competition.

Favorite thing about working

in Parks and recreation: My interactions with the people, the new relationships and opportunities to make a difference and positive impact on the current generation as well as the next generation within the city and surrounding areas. Fun fact about myself: I am from Monroe, NC.

CENTER SUPERVISOR

OLD ARMORY COMMUNITY CENTER

Years of service: 14 years Experience: I came to parks and recreation after working as a network engineer with telecom. Before being hired as the Center Supervisor at the Old Armory Community Center, I volunteered extensively with several guidance and mentor programs and worked part time at the J. Ray Shute Community Center. Hobbies: My hobbies include interior decorating, especially “tablescapes”, vintage shopping and travel!

Why do I work in Parks and

Recreation? I love working with people and helping them with their events. I get to meet new people daily and I love getting to know and serve the citizens of Monroe! I enjoy the impact that my facility makes on our community!

Favorite thing about working

in Parks and Recreation: Every day is a new adventure and I am not chained to a desk! We get to help people develop life skills and learn healthy living.

SUTTON PARK COMMUNITY CENTER

Years of service: 6 years Experience: I graduated from the University of North Carolina with a degree in Recreation and Parks Management. Before coming to Monroe Parks and Recreation I worked with individuals with Autism for 6+ years.

Favorite thing about working

Parks and Recreation: Getting to know and meet new people and becoming an important part of their life, especially the children. When I am not working I enjoy being outdoors, traveling, and trying new recreational activities.

WINCHESTER RECREATION COMPLEX

Years of service: 5 years Experience: I am from Augusta, Ga. I Graduated from Reinhardt University with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management. I love to play all types of sports, my 2 favorite sports to watch are Basketball and Track & Field.

Favorite thing about working in

Parks and Recreation: I enjoy meeting new people and interacting with the youth that we serve.
