We suggested they ‘Chelsea chop’ their plants before leaving in July, i.e. cutting them back in May to force them to flower later. What we forgot to mention were colourful leaves, fruits and berries. Maples, liquidamber, rosy crab apples, hips and haws are looking wonderful at the moment, euonymus (pictured), elderberries, viburnums – all should be waiting for them on their return unless of course the birds get there first.
