Wimborne BID was delighted with the record crowd that attended the switching on of the Christmas lights and the new Gulliver’s smugglers challenge race. The aim was to raise awareness and attract as many people as possible to come and experience Wimborne. Organisers were delighted with the number of pubs and restaurants that joined in the contraband race and many businesses dressed up and found ways to be involved. BID director and organiser Martin Tidd thanked everyone and particularly those businesses that came out and joined in the fun. The event also raised money for Troop Aid.

And yet the rest of us are eternally hopeful when the New Year comes around, believing without any credible evidence that we can improve our lives, that change is possible, that
While we love the opmism of New Year’s Resoluons, unfortunately, the enthusiasm and hope oen fades within weeks, and our efforts at self improvement come to a whimpering end.
We try to do too many resoluons at once, and that spreads our focus and energies too thin. It’s much less effecve to do many habits at once.
We try to do really tough habits right away, which means it’s difficult and we become overwhelmed or inmidated by the difficulty and quit.
Life gets in the way. Things come up unexpectedly that get in the way of us scking with a habit.
We only have a certain amount of enthusiasm and motivation, and it runs out because we try to do too much, too soon. We spend all that energy in the beginning and then run out of steam.
We try to be “disciplined” and do very unpleasant habits, but our nature won’t allow that to last for long. If we really don’t want to do something, we won’t be able to force ourselves to do it for long.

When it has colour add the diced shallots and garlic, cook for a further minute, Season, add the mushrooms, cook for a further minute, then add the white wine, reduce by half, then add the cream and also reduce by half. Add the parsley and chervil.

Customer service at allme low, research claims Threequarters of UK consumers believe customer service standards are at an allme low and more than half have been driven to complain in the last year, research has found. According to research by the Henley Business School, twothirds of customers believe retailers, leisure providers and service firms in the UK are “arrogant, make no effort to understand their customers and

The survey of 200 customers and customer service professionals found that more than half of respondents felt businesses should be fined for consistently providing poor service. The report’s authors noted that economic stress was contribung to customer dissasfacon, but was not the main cause. Three New Bells for Wimborne Minster A faculty application has been made to augment the ring of ten bells in the West Tower of Wimborne Minster. The current set of bells was cast and installed by Gillett and Johnston exactly one hundred years ago in 1911 and they are considered to be one of the most musical rings in the country.Adding three new bells on top will enhance the musical possibilities without affecting the sound of the original ten which will still be able to be rung.The augmentation also celebrates the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012. Within the Salisbury Diocese, which covers most of Dorset and Wiltshire, there is currently only one ring of twelve bells at Trowbridge.
Funding for the new bells and installation has been raised by The Friends of the Minster, The Minster Preservation Trust, The Llewellyn Edwards Bell Restoration Fund,The Wimborne Minster Society of Ringers and private donations. It is hoped that the bells will be cast at the Whitechapel Bell Foundry in London in the next few months and that the installation by Whites of Appleton will then take place by the middle of 2012.

Photography
Keep it Simple Sometime in the past I remember hearing one of those little gems that hits the mark and is never forgotten. The painter has a blank canvas and chooses what to put in; a photographer has a complete scene and has to choose what to leave out. Landscape photographs are often a disappointment when we remember the whole scene we viewed. This is often because there is a strong temptation to try to capture the whole vista. This is impossible so just concentrate on capturing the concept. Four controls can help to achieve effective results. They are - Lens; Position; Lighting; Composition. Lens - choosing a wide angle of view creates small distant subjects and a lot of empty space. Two options here are to include foreground interest or use a panoramic format either set in the camera or achieved by cropping the image on computer later. A telephoto view will isolate one subject and bring the background closer. This is much easier and forces us to be selective of subject content which brings us to viewpoint. A low viewpoint gives status to a subject while a high viewpoint can remove unwanted background clutter. Moving to a different location can also give a better composition. Framing a subject with an arch or other foreground detail is a useful compositional tool. Choosing a vertical instead of horizontal format can encourage better framing of a subject. Make sure there is one part the picture to which the eye is drawn. Light quality is so important. Flat light on overcast days lacks impact. Better to return in better conditions e.g. bright sun, fog, and dramatic clouds. Use side or back lighting for impact. Overall, before taking any photos, ask yourself what is it about the scene that is so visually pleasing then concentrate on recording that detail.

One of my customers told me a very sad story about a horse moved to a new yard the other week. The owners thought he had settled in to his new surroundings and wanted him left out in the field when his field companions were taken into the stable for the night (because she said he didn’t like stables). Unfortunately he panicked at being left on his own, broke the fence and got out on the road and was killed. Horses are herd animals and really like the company of other horses; even if he didn’t like stables he would have rather been in with others than out on his own. I’m sure the owners are devastated so please be very careful if you change yards, it can take a long time for your horse to fully settle and he may react totally out of character. 1941 America is plunged into World War II. Production of civilian motorcycles is almost entirely suspended in favor of military production. The Service School is converted back to the Quartermasters School for the training of military mechanics. The FL series premieres. 1942 Among other motorcycles made for the Army, H-D produces the unique XA 750, a motorcycle with horizontally opposed cylinders and shaft drive, designed for desert use.The contract is cancelled early due to war combat moving out of North Africa. Only 1,011 XA’s are built. 1943 Harley-Davidson receives the first of its four Army-Navy “E” Awards for excellence in wartime production. Overseas, many American servicemen get their first exposure to Harley-Davidson motorcycles, something they would not forget when they would return stateside.
