National Employee Appreciation Day

AFGSC Outstanding Airmen of the Year Banquet with Sodexo’s Learning to Fly Advanced Culinary Class On May 12, 2022 AFGSC Commander, General Anthony Cotton hosted the annual Outstanding Airmen of the Year Banquet that recognized the stellar Airmen assigned across the entire command: Barksdale AFB, Louisiana Dyess AFB, Texas Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota F.E. Warren AFB, Wyoming Malmstrom AFB, Montana Minot AFB, North Dakota Whiteman AFB, Missouri Winners at the AFGSC level will continue to compete at the Air Force level to be recognized as one of the prestigious 12 Outstanding Airmen of the Year. The banquet was catered by the Barksdale Club, with the Learning to Fly class augmenting their staff in a first-ofits-kind immersion to prepare, plate and serve the dinner meal.

Throughout the Advanced Culinary Course, the Learning to Fly Students have worked with the Sodexo Executive Chef to learn and grow their skills beyond the scope of traditional dining facility operations. The students were able to exercise these skills during the banquet service. Below are highlights from the students describing what the class meant to them, what their favorite part of catering the banquet was, & what did they learn from an event of this caliber: 2d Lt Matthew Winger “I enjoyed watching our young Airmen grow their passion for the culinary arts, while getting my first opportunity as a Force Support Officer to immerse in the profession.” SrA Gabriela Gonzalez Torres Throughout this course, I have been able to refine my culinary skills in order to make the best food I possibly could in my military job. I genuinely enjoyed being able to create new things and be educated on ingredients I wasn't familiar with in the past. A1C Zili Li Every class I have learned something new. It’s very rewarding. I enjoy garnish so much; garnish your food with romance! Good food should make your mouth water from sight!

Memorial Day Lunch In honor of Memorial Day, we featured a delicious BBQ menu in all the base dining facilities with Kansas City BBQ Chicken, BBQ Pork Ribs, Flank Steak, and all the fixin’ to make a positively savory plate. Transactions: 14,520 Sales: $23,014

Patio Garden Workshop During this year's Servathon event at JB Charleston, we hosted a sustainable patio garden workshop. We educated the Airmen about food insecurity and how to plant and grow their patio gardens in pots to help feed themselves and their families. We showed them different fresh veggies and herbs that can be grown in pots, hanging baskets, or in windowsill boxes. Best of all, if they get stationed at another base, they can take them with them or gift them to someone else. SrA Alaysia Colson, pictured bottom right, planted squash seeds at our workshop, and you can see her thriving patio garden pictured left!

Stop Hunger Servathon Serving Our Local Communities April marks the beginning of our Sodexo Stop Hunger Servathon. Sodexo has dedicated the months of April and May for employees to join forces globally to fight hunger in their local communities. We’re very excited that eight of our bases were able to setup local events doing volunteer work, food drives and fund raising. Examples of how they worked to reduce hunger in their communities included food drives, volunteered at food banks, raised food donations for community kitchens, hosted a sustainable garden workshop, and competed in a can food architecture challenge. Check out the results from all their efforts below. Base
