BOARDCHAIR

Happy Fall everyone!

We are back to another busy season at the Chandler Chamber as we work on several signature events. Our Annual Golf Tournament at Ocotillo Golf Resort was a huge success with a full course. This tournament is 2nd only to the Ostrich Festival in fundraisers for the Chamber, so we truly appreciate the participation. Special thank you goes to the Golf Committee that put it together, and especially all the spon sors that attended and donated raffle prizes.

One of the Chamber’s signature events is right around the corner –Chandler 100. Chamber staff has spent

hours compiling data about the top Chandler companies in order to create a one-of-a-kind event recognizing their contributions to the economic success of our city. You are probably familiar with several of our top employers, but as our city grows, we continue to at tract new employers and smaller com panies gain traction and numbers. This is your chance to meet and learn more about all of them. This is the business event of the season for Chandler and I hope to see you there.

As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out if there’s anything the Chamber or Board can do to help you grow!

CHAMBER NON-PROFITSPOTLIGHT

Live Love Brings People Together with Service

Live Love is a community development non-profit in downtown Chandler focused on connecting people and caring for our neighbors. Their vision is to promote a strong, safe community where neighbors feel connected, actively care for each other, and the most isolated and vulnerable have access to needed resources. This happens through a variety of activities including after school programs, family gatherings, and monthly care for senior adults.

In 2007, with support from the City of Chandler Neighborhood

Programs, an area was identified where they could start by working side-by-side with people striving to create change and growth right where they lived. The purchase and restoration of an abandoned home in the neighborhood created space for our family gatherings, community education, and school break activities for kids and teens.

Plans to build a larger gathering space- The Oasis- are underway and they are excited to see this neighbor-inspired dream become reality.

FROM THE MAYOR

Water Conservation and Chandler Businesses

As you may have heard, the United States Bureau of Reclamation declared a Tier 2 Colorado River

Shortage effective in 2023. The shortage does not mean a shortage at any City of Chandler taps. But that doesn’t mean our work is done as a community.

For decades, the City has made smart investments in

infrastructure, diverse water supplies, water reuse, storing water underground and conservation programs. That commitment, along with the conservation efforts of residents and strong business partnerships, has resulted in the average household in Chandler using 20% less water today than it did 25 years ago.

Let’s talk a little more about those strong business partnerships. For years Chandler has worked with businesses to responsibly manage water consumption. In fact, we recently announced a partnership with Intel to build a facility that will put up to 5-million gallons of water back into our aquifers and recharge basins every day, while expanding reclaimed water service to Intel for industrial

uses. This project exemplifies what we can achieve when we work together to conserve.

The City’s Water Conservation Office offers several free services to businesses of all sizes and varieties. A great place to start is a free water audit to identify leaks and places where water is being overused.

There is also a very handy Facility Manager’s Guide that can help you build your own water conservation plan. You can find that and links to all our programs at chandleraz. gov/waterconservation (click on Water Conservation Resources for Businesses and HOAs). If we continue to work together, Chandler’s water security will remain strong for decades to come.

Water in the Desert

Investments in Arizona’s Long-Term Water Assets

Water infrastructure has been a hot topic for Arizona this year, with the Copper state leading the nation in planning for the future of water. This is a necessary conversation as Arizona is facing more than two decades of drought and the over-allocation of the Colorado River. Luckily, Arizona leaders have been planning for and ensuring the proper management of water resources.

This year, Governor Ducey signed legislation, providing $1.2 billion over three years to boost long-term water supplies and implement conservation efforts. This legislation also funded the new Water Infrastructure Finance Authority, which focuses on buying new sources of water and building new infrastructure.

Attend on October 7 to hear about this legislation, also from the City of Chandler on their Drought Management Plan, and the Salt River Project and their investments towards water management efforts.

Hear from the new Water Infrastructure and Finance Authority of Arizona!

Send a Tourniquet for the Healthcare Work Shortage

The need for health care workers has never been greater, with the number of workers down by 1.1% since pre-pandemic levels. The healthcare sector is being faced with staffing shortages, especially the nursing staff who directly impact the nurse/patient ratio. Healthcare workers are crucial for public health, economic security, and racial equity. These challenges need the attention they deserve and leaders should be focused on priority areas to provide relief for these workforce challenges. Focusing on publicprivate partnerships to strengthen the healthcare higher education system, investments in training and facilities, and urging individuals to join the field.

Learn what policymakers and educators are doing to alleviate the pressures on the healthcare workforce.

Dogtopia holds anniversary open house

On September 17 Dogtopia of South Chandler celebrated its third anniversary by welcoming the community to an open house for a behind-the-scenes peek at it’s premier dog daycare!

The event capped off a weeklong celebration to thank customers and the community for their support these last three years. Owners Susan and Michael Perlman opened their doors in 2019, offering services to the community that positively impact dogs and their families through consistent socialization, engagement and exercise.

“Our daycare enhances the joy of dog parenthood and enables dogs to positively change our world”, said Susan. “We have a wonderful community of families who are committed to the socialization and health of their pups which is positively impacting Chandler.

Making Every Drop Count by Charlie Water

SRP manages and delivers about half of the Valley’s water supply by delivering more than 244 billion gallons of water each year. For nearly 120 years, SRP has prepared the Arizona water supply for desert conditions. Through storing and studying dam water, storing water underground, measuring snow and water flow, and building water resiliency in certain municipalities, SRP is building a water supply to last for generations. Furthermore, SRP is collaborating with several partners including the Bureau of Reclamation, the Army Corp of Engineers at Roosevelt Dam, Central Arizona Project, and a number of federal government agencies to increase water storage capacity for further use.

Years of unprotected sun exposure can lead to the

development of skin cancers. Because of this increased sun exposure here in the valley of the sun, skin cancer surveillance is a necessity for the best health outcomes. Sun exposure also contributes to photoaging effects on the skin, such as sunspots, decreased elasticity, and exacerbations of various skin conditions, such as rosacea. At this clinic, we offer a wide variety of services, including skin checks, skin biopsies, surgical removal of skin cancers, chemical peels, and many other skin-related services. Call or come by to see us today so we can help you with your skin needs.
