December 2025

Community Update

The start of a new year brings new opportunities to engage, collaborate, and strengthen our business community. One of our first major events of 2026 will be our annual Meet the Elected Officials Breakfast, where attendees will hear directly from City, State, and Federal leaders about their priorities for the months ahead.

Each elected official in attendance will share what they are focused on for 2026, giving our members valuable insight into policy direction, economic development plans, and upcoming legislative activity. The breakfast will also mark the official release of our 2026 Legislative Agenda, “How We Stand,” which outlines the Chamber’s advocacy priorities and business policy positions for the year. Free physical copies will be available for all attendees.

I encourage you to join us, connect with your elected leaders, and help shape the conversations that impact Chandler’s business community. Your involvement and voice play a vital role in the future of our city.

Wishing you a successful start to the new year!

BOARD CHAIR

As December marks my final month serving as Board Chair, I want to express my sincere appreciation to the businesses, partners, and community leaders who have made this year so meaningful. It has been an honor to support the work of the Chamber and to witness the strength and resilience of Chandler’s business community.

This year brought significant progress, including the continued growth of our Business Retention and Expansion Program, strong engagement across our roundtables and workforce initiatives, and another successful Chandler 100 celebration. We were also proud to see our BR&E Program recognized statewide by Arizona Chamber Executives, a reflection of the powerful partnerships that exist across our city.

I want to thank our outstanding board, our members, and the Chamber team for their collaboration and commitment. Your leadership and involvement are what make Chandler a place where business thrives and community flourishes.

As I wrap up my term, I am excited to welcome Andrea Marconi as the incoming Board Chair beginning in January. I have great confidence in her leadership and in the momentum the Chamber will continue to build in the year ahead.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve. It has truly been a privilege.

A Strong Year for Chandler Economy ... Thanks to You

As we conclude 2025, I want to share the incredible strength and resilience of Chandler’s economy and extend my sincere gratitude to the businesses that fuel it. Whether you employ five people or five thousand, each company contributes to the growth, innovation and exceptional quality of life that defines Chandler.

This year demonstrated why Chandler has one of the most competitive and dynamic business communities in Arizona and the Southwest. Our economy remained diverse and stable, powered by a mix of advanced manufacturing, technology, aerospace, small business entrepreneurship, retail, hospitality and service industries. We welcomed new investment while supporting long-standing businesses that have been the backbone of our community for decades.

Chandler’s strong performance in 2025 is the result of years of careful planning, strong public–private partnerships and the ingenuity of business owners and a talented workforce. It’s reflected in our sustained population growth, high business retention and expansion activity, workforce development and voterapproved investments in the city’s infrastructure, public safety and quality of life.

Chandler’s Economic Development team provides resources and insights that help businesses understand our local economy and make informed decisions, while the Chandler Chamber remains a vital partner in strengthening the business environment through advocacy, education and leadership.

During this holiday season, I encourage business leaders, employees and residents to Choose Chandler. Our small businesses, restaurants, retailers and service providers depend heavily on year-end activity, and every local purchase makes a difference. Shopping and dining locally supports our neighbors, strengthens our tax base and keeps Chandler’s economy thriving. Whether you are selecting gifts, planning holiday events or treating your team, I hope you’ll consider supporting the businesses that make our community vibrant.

To every entrepreneur, manager, innovator and employee who contributes to Chandler’s success: thank you. Your hard work, vision and commitment elevate our city and help ensure our continued prosperity.

I wish you, your families and your teams a joyful holiday season and an energizing start to the year ahead. Together, let’s close out the fourth quarter strong and look forward with optimism to another year of progress in 2026. Happy Holidays!

Chandler’s Economic Highlights

Chandler City Council appoints John Pombier as City Manager through June 2027

CHANDLER, Ariz – The Chandler City Council has approved an employment agreement with John Pombier to serve as Chandler’s city manager through June 2027. The City Council previously appointed Pombier to serve as acting city manager effective July 13, 2025.

“I’ve always admired the greatness of Chandler and these past few months have produced first-hand experiences demonstrating why our community is such a special place,” said Pombier. “I am proud to serve Chandler businesses and residents and appreciate the tremendous support of the City Council, city employees and community partners.”

His role in Chandler builds upon a 27-year career in public service with Mesa, Phoenix and the Arizona Governor’s Office. He retired from the City of Mesa in 2022 after 19 years of service, including 11 years as an assistant city manager and eight years as city prosecutor.

Prior to that, he spent two years as Deputy General Counsel at the Arizona Governor’s Office, one year as the Director of the Governor’s Division for Prevention of Family Violence and six years with the City of Phoenix Prosecutor’s Office, including five years as lead attorney for the Domestic Violence Unit.

Pombier graduated from Arizona State University’s School of Law and was admitted to the State Bar of Arizona in 1994. He previously earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Michigan.

The city manager oversees the day-to-day operations of the City of Chandler and implements policies adopted by the City Council. It is one of four positions appointed by the City Council, the others being the city attorney, city clerk and presiding magistrate.

Inside Quantum Helicopters’ aircraft hangar, the largest employers in Chandler gathered for an elevated and elegant awards celebration.

This year, the top 10 largest employers in Chandler, AZ were, in order: Intel Corporation, Chandler Unified School District, Chandler Fashion Center, Wells Fargo Bank, Bank of America, Gila River Resorts and Casinos, Northrop Grumman, CommonSpirit Dignity Health Chandler Regional Medical Center, the City of Chandler, and Microchip Technology Inc.

These 10, along with all Top 100 Chandler employers, were honored in a printed commemorative book featuring employee counts and key business contact information.

This event simply would not be possible without the support of our sponsors, vendors, volunteers, Chamber ambassadors, and our generous venue host. Thank you for helping make this year’s Chandler 100 celebration an overwhelming success.

CUSD Sets Course for New Superintendent with Community Input

At the end of November, Chandler Unified School District (CUSD) concluded its online survey that enabled community members to assist in the creation of a comprehensive leadership profile that will inform the district’s search for its next superintendent.

Following the retirement of the current superintendent, Frank Narducci, CUSD partnered with a national education leadership search firm to support the district’s efforts in finding qualified candidates to fill this role. Through its partnership with Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates (HYA), CUSD launched an online survey that polled over 4,000 parents and school staff to determine which characteristics they feel are necessary for a new superintendent to possess.

Survey results found that participants valued a variety of characteristics and attributes, such as strong communication skills, ethical leadership, a high degree of public visibility, the ability to retain and hire exceptional staff, responsible fiscal stewardship, and the maintenance of equity while serving Chandler’s diverse student body, among numerous other qualities. The survey also detailed what CUSD parents and staff believe to be the district’s greatest strengths, as well as their biggest challenges, providing additional insight for the district officials to utilize in their search for a new superintendent.

Chandler Unified School District has also held several community forums, providing additional opportunities for residents to provide input into the candidate selection process. The CUSD Governing Board is set to meet on December 10, 2025 to give an update on the search for a new superintendent as it currently stands. Following this, applications for candidates to apply for this role will close on January 2, 2026, with the district setting a final consideration of contract date for a newly selected superintendent on February 11, 2026.

Chandler receives Dementia and AgeFriendly designations

CHANDLER, Ariz – The City of Chandler is now recognized as a Dementia and Age-Friendly community, highlighting its commitment to helping residents age safely, actively and with strong community support.

Chandler earned its Dementia Friendly designation through Dementia Friendly Arizona for its efforts to support people with memory challenges and engage local businesses. The city also joined the AARP Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities, which promotes improvements in housing, transportation, social participation, outdoor spaces, health services and civic inclusion.

“Approximately 19% of Chandler’s population is aged 60 and older,” said Becky Kuiper, recreation superintendent. “It is imperative that we support aging adults so they can age with dignity and remain valued members of society.”

A recent community survey showed strong interest in addressing age-related needs, including transportation, access to services and awareness of local resources. To guide this work, Chandler has formed a task force of city staff, nonprofits and business owners to create an action plan focused on expanding awareness, offering dementia-friendly training, enhancing city services and strengthening connections to aging-in-place resources.

These designations mark an important milestone in Chandler’s long-term commitment to creating a welcoming environment for residents of all ages and abilities.

For more information, visit chandleraz.gov.

Dementia Friendly America® is a multi-sector, national collaborative on a mission to foster communities that are equipped to support people with dementia and their family and friend care partners by working to become “dementia friendly.”

The AARP Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities supports the work of local, regional and state governments as they prepare for the nation’s changing demographics. Established in 2012, the Network includes towns, cities, counties, and states that have made a commitment to being more livable for people for people of all ages, and especially older adults.

Dignity Health East Valley Hospitals Achieve Elite National Status as Facilities That Prioritize Patient Safety

Dignity Health Mercy Gilbert Medical Center has been awarded an “A” Hospital Safety Grade by The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog focused on patient safety. This designates Mercy Gilbert as a “Straight A” hospital, defined as hospitals that have an ‘A’ for fall 2025 and have sustained that grade for the last five or more grading rounds. This select group represents approximately 12 percent of all eligible hospitals.

The Leapfrog Hospital Grade also gave Dignity Health Chandler Regional Medical Center an ‘A’ grade for its performance. Receiving these grades is a prestigious honor, as less than 3,000 hospitals in the United States do so each year.

The Leapfrog Group assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to all general hospitals across the country based on over 30 measures of errors, accidents, injuries and infections as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.

“These distinctions are especially gratifying, knowing how rare it is that a facility earns them,” says Mario Garner, President of Dignity Health East Valley. “We are extremely pleased that our efforts are being recognized on a national scale.”

“My sincere congratulations to Mercy Gilbert Medical Center for upholding patient safety standards through thick and thin, achieving an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade for five consecutive rounds of the Safety Grade,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “Consistently earning an A demonstrates a long-term, organization-wide commitment to putting patient safety first.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program focused exclusively on preventable medical errors, injuries and infections that can lead to harm or even death. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.

To see Mercy Gilbert and Chandler Regional’s full grade details and to find essential patient tips for staying safe in the hospital, visit HospitalSafetyGrade.org.

Park Senior Villas To Expand Chandler Senior Living Campus

CHANDLER, Ariz. — Park Senior Villas - Chandler is expanding its campus five years after opening in 2020. Following strong occupancy growth, the community is adding three new buildings to meet rising demand for personalized senior care.

Park Senior Villas offers a neighborhood style approach to senior living, using intimate home like villas rather than traditional multistory buildings.

Each new villa will feature 10 bedrooms with single or double occupancy, creating space for up to 48 additional residents. Groundbreaking is set for November 25, with an expected opening in summer 2026.

“We have had a 30 person waitlist all year in Chandler,” said Jean Lagenfeld, sales coordinator at Park Senior Villas Chandler. “This expansion helps us meet growing demand and fill an unmet need for senior care in the area.”

The new villas will offer more than 6,500 square feet of living space with large living rooms, dining areas, and studies. Each will focus on a different level of care including assisted living, supportive memory care, and challenging dementia care and will feature modern finishes throughout.

The campus currently has seven villas, each with its own great room and built in amenity such as a theater, activity room, bistro, spa, salon, or fitness room. The three new villas will add a game room and a sensory room.

“This expansion brings to life a project we have long envisioned,” said Christina Ryan, CEO of Park Senior Villas. “Our Chandler campus reflects everything we value and have learned from our locations across the Valley and Tucson.”

Park Senior Villas also integrates advanced technology to support resident care. Earlier this year, the community introduced Paul, an AI supported radar based device that detects fall risks and alerts caregivers in real time. After its success at the La Cañada campus, Paul was expanded to all locations. The community also uses elbi, an AI powered app that supports dementia care with non pharmaceutical approaches.

Park Senior Villas Chandler is located at 4950 S. Lindsay Rd., Chandler, AZ 85249 and operates four locations across Arizona.

For information on future residency or construction updates, contact Liv_ch@parksv.com or call 480 648 5974.
