Mirči potuje: Salzkammergut

Ciao vsem skupaj! Ciao vsem Mirci z novo prigodo je nazaj. Tokrat smo se s prijateljicami odpravile v Avstrijo decembra, na božični izlet. Ker smo doma z obale, kjer ni snega, smo se odločile odpraviti v zasneženo Avstrijo organizirano. Med poplavo ponudb organiziranih, vodenih izletov smo se odločile za Supro travel in Božični izlet v pokrajino Salzkammergut. Celodnevni izlet je znašal 40,00 €.

10. 12. smo se punce, oborožene s kapami, rokavicami in toplimi šali ob 4.00 zjutraj odpravile iz Kopra proti Ljubljani. Pot je bila lepa, mirna in jutranja. Do Ljubljanje smo se dodobra zbudile in nato odpravile z udobnim avtobusom dalje.

Naš prvi postanek je bil v mestecu Hallstatt, kjer smo imeli dve uri prostega časa. Sprehodile smo se skozi mesto, ogledale cerkvico na vrhu, kupile magnetek za domače, razglednico in spile kavo. Glavna ulica, ki pelje od avtobusne postaje proti glavnemu trgu je obdana z ene strani z globokim jezerom in privezi za čolne, na drugi strani pa lesenimi hiškami.

Hallstatt je bil dolgo časa na mojem potovalnem seznamu. Želela sem si ogledati mesto s tako dolgo in bogato zgodovino.

Kje pa se nahaja to mestece? Na jugozahodni obali Halštatskega jezera v avstrijski deželi Salzkammergut v Zgornji Avstriji. Najbolj znan je po najstarejšem rudniku soli (po katerem je regija Salzkammergut dobila ime) po katerem se imenuje halštatska kultura, pogosto pa tudi celotno obdobje starejše železne dobe (800 pr. n. št. - 450 pr. n. št.). Hallstatt skupaj z goro Dachstein tvori kulturno krajino Salzkammerguta, ki je bila leta 1997 vpisana na Unescov seznam svetovne dediščine.

Leta 2004 so našli v bližnjem rudniku soli leseno konstrukcijo, ki jo imajo za najstarejše (rudniško) stopnišče na svetu. Kot zanimivost, pri nas so na Ljubljanskem barju našli najsterejše leseno kolo na svetu (leta 2002).

Nato smo se odpravili 24 km severneje v Bad Ischl. Tukaj smo dobili na voljo uro in pol prostega časa. Aldijana in Nina sta izbrskali, da moramo tukaj obvezno v znamenito slaščičarno Zauner na znane išlerje. Slaščičarna je bila nabito polna, vsi so čakali na mize, natakarji so letali gor pa dol po prostorih, ljudje pa se sladkali in pili omamne kave. Tukaj smo porabile dobro uro časa.

Sicer je Bad Ischl znan kakor zdraviliško mestece, njegov ugled pa je močno zrasel potem, ko je habsburška princesa Sophie leta 1828 tam ozdravila svojo neplodnost in rodila cesarja Franca Jožefa. Bad Ischl je imel v cesarski družini dolgo glavno vlogo. V Kaiservilli se je Franc Jožef zaročil s svojo 15-letno najstniško bavarsko sestrično Elizabeto, poznano kot Sisi. Cesarska vila, ki jima jo je, kot poročno darilo, podarila Jožefova mati nadvojvodinja Sophie, je postala poletna rezidenca cesarske družine. Franz Jožef je kraj opisal kot "nebesa na zemlji".

Kot češnjica na tortici je bilo mestece St Wolfgang im Salzkammergut. Tukaj smo imeli na voljo 3 ure. Počasi se je zmračilo in začelo snežiti, prava zimska idila. V mestu je zelo lep božični sejem, okrašen v detajle, z mnogimi stojnicami, ki ponujajo od kuhanega vina, punča, klobas do raznih okraskov. Sejem se razteza po celem mestecu, do osrednje cerkvice, jezera in hotela Beli konjiček. Po navžitju zimske idile smo počasi odpravili proti Sloveniji in domu. Vožnja domov je bila prijetna, okolica pa popolnoma bela.

Kljub temu, da rada potujem v lastni režiji, mi je bil božični izlet Supre travel všeč. Saj je bilo vse organizirano in prostega časa smo imeli na pretek. Mislim, da sem bom še kdaj udeležila česa podobnega v zimskem času.

I’ve been introduced to “NoAir” music in the beginning of my stay in Slovenia luckily Honestly, I have been surprised by the number of talented musicians in such a small country from the very first concert I worked in. However, I can surely say that “NoAir” never stays unnoticed among other local bands while bringing more fans with every album. Here, you can read my interview with the band’s wonderful bassist Jasa Hedzet Jajo about the past and the future of the band.

1. When and how was the band formed?

The official version of the band “NoAir” was formed in 2012. This year it’s our 10th anniversary, so for that occasion, we made our 3rd album. Maks and I knew each other from secondary school, we played in various bands with few songs of our own, then we went apart and got our own bands. At one point, Maks started to make couple of songs and came to me asking for opinion. I liked them, of course, so we started to work on their release together. We got a drummer who we also knew from secondary school and we started practicing. We recorded the first album before even having a gig and decided to release it in singles. After our drummer left to pursue the career of a lawyer, we released the album. In a short period of time, we formed the band which is almost as it is today, with one exception of a guitar player. After a while, Gregor joined us, and we started practicing our album which was already released. That’s how the beginning of our path as a band was like.

2. What’s the communication like inside the band, do you hang out together in other occasions?

We hang out together a lot, but still not enough. This is still kind of a band which consists of really good friends. It’s a band where you gather for the same thing: to do what you all love, with people you

love, so yeah, we usually try to find time on weekends to get together and enjoy the company of each other or sometimes we even go on little holidays together.

3. Why “NoAir”?

We were a band with a few songs and didn’t know how to name ourselves, so we made a temporary name that was called “On Air”. We had a friend at one of our practices who said we were quite dramatic and melancholic, that our music was dark. He asked why weren’t we called “NoAir”, which would literally mean without air as a first meaning and noir from French, which means black. We were like “OMG, that’s genius!”. That’s how we became “NoAir” with a little hidden word game.

4. What’s the creative process like? Do you all have contribution to the process of creating?

The main creative process is Maks, he usually makes the songs, the majority at least. He writes the music or a version of it and the lyrics, then he makes a demo on his PC and sends it to us. Usually these demos are not finished, it depends. We try to practice to see how it goes live, then we all work on the materials and make changes where needed. For example, Jakob wrote some lyrics on this new album, I’ve written some as well and made a song on my own, Maks rearranged it, then

we all experimented with it again and ended up with a finished song. So, in a way everybody has their contribution to the creation of songs. We found that the most productive way for us is when someone brings the idea, then we all become listeners and check if it convinces us, if it does, we all work on it to make it better, to make it alive.li

5. What’s the most memorable event that happened to you as a band during all these years?

It depends. One of the greatest achievements for us was going to the festival MENT in Ljubljana, as thanks to this, we had a chance to perform in WAVES festival in Vienna, where we were really well received. It was a nice experience, like a little holiday for us. As I said before we’re like a family, so spending 3 days together in Austria was quite pleasant. In terms of gigs, I think the last concert we had in CMK was absolutely memorable. We had the loveliest audience ever and it was kind of magical, plus, playing new songs after so many years. There was really special energy...

6. How is it to be back after 2 years of pause?

Very good, it was not really a pause, we had some acoustic concerts during Covid but it’s not the same, it’s a totally different setting as well as different feeling, it was kind of refreshing. Before, we used to play the previous album from 2017, so we kind of got used to the songs and maybe got fed up with them a little, which is normal, so, there is no doubt that I feel better while playing now. However, it’s always interesting to come up with new setting, new sounds which means different bass guitar for me, new techniques, approaches. Moreover, I got to play bass keyboard, so it’s also challenging and requires a lot of experimenting, which I pretty much enjoy doing.

7. Is there a particular song that you enjoy playing or it means a lot to you personally?

Yeah, for sure. Although, every time you make new songs, the old ones get kind of replaced. My favorite was “Colors”, for sure, maybe it still is, I know it by heart, by every muscle movement, but yes, especially the instrumental part, when it gets building again until the last refrain, that part for me was always magical. I always got goosebumps while playing and listening to it.

8. Tell me a little bit about the new album?

The last album is pretty different, now it has more space, there are more layers, it has different styles, but still is very homogenic as a whole, at least that’s my perception of it. I personally think the whole album is made down to the very last detail. The funny thing is that the first version of the album’s title was “Half-past life” which would represent the fact of us being kind of old enough. The average age of the members is around 30 and from the way we see things, it feels like we are half-past life. The album was supposed to concentrate on routines, it would talk about someone who is alive and over 30, with this, it would question the fact of being a slave of the routine but still having passion or will to get out of it. At the end, we needed a shorter name for the album and the song “Square” fitted perfectly. You are pretty much in a square with the same everyday lifestyle, but somehow you try to get out of it and this is the moment caught in this album. It’s actually pretty philosophical but at the same time simple to read. On one hand, it’s the daily routine you hate, but you also kind of need and are used to, the comfort zone you know, and on the other hand the possibility to go out but not wanting to do so. “Square” is the moment of questioning back and forth. This is why I like this album; it seems pretty simple but in its nature it’s quite complex.

9. How’s it like to be a musician in a small country like Slovenia?

It’s pathetic, you need a lot of will. It’s really hard to find your audience, plus the audience you find is small, so it’s really difficult to be just a musician. I remember my father, who is a composer known all over the world, talking about being a

Slovenian. He always said if you are a Slovenian, you already have less options. It’s quite a creative nation, overall, there are lots of good musicians, especially in the last 5-10 years, who bring something fresh, some kind of new waves with amazing quality.

10. Do you plan to have gigs outside of Slovenia?

Yeah, we plan to, but it’s still a bit early as we have to go all over Slovenia first with the new album. In 2023, we will probably target Ljubljana much more, then rest of Slovenia. The plan is to play at couple of festivals in summer, in the meantime trying to get some gigs over the border. Right now, also we have fans in Croatia, probably some in Austria, but we should go to ex Yugoslavian countries for concerts.

RATICALS

Makedonski običaj: Surva

Prihajam iz majhne vasi v Severni Makedoniji, kjer prevladuje pravoslavna vera, s tem tudi pravoslavni prazniki. En mojih najljubših praznikov je »Surva«, kar je pravzaprav neka Makedonska različica maškar oz. pusta, ali pa noči čarovnic. Bistvena podobnost je v tem, da otroci hodijo od hiše do hiše in prosijo za sladkarije. Praznuje se 14. februarja.

Po stari navadi se po sladkarije odpravi v zelo zgodnjih urah. Jaz sem ta običaj spoznal takole: dan pred praznikom sva se družila z mojim najboljšim prijateljem. Rekel mi je »Ej, jutri je Surva! Prišel bom k tebi bolj zgodaj, da začneva pobirati sladkarije«. Nisem preveč razmišljal o tem, kar je rekel, ker nisem zares pričakoval, da bo prišel zelo zgodaj. Ta večer sem zlahka zaspal in nisem veliko premišljeval o naslednjem dnevu. Bilo je sredi noči, ko sem nenadoma slišal: »Zbudi se, tvoj prijatelj je tu.« Na začetku sem bil zmeden. Popolnoma me je razočaralo, ko sem ugotovil, koliko je ura - 3 zjutraj. Ko sem šel ven sem začutil, kako mi je mraz objel obraz. Sneg nam je škripal pod nogami, med tem, ko sva hodila od hiše do hiše. Hodila sva do osme ure zjutraj in obiskala sva večino hiš v naši vasi, kar je okoli 400 hiš. Slastne sladkarije sem imel na zalogi še za nekaj tednov vnaprej.

Tega dneva ne bom pozabil do konca življenja, ta dan je zapisan v mojem spominu kot eden izmed mojih najboljših spominov iz otroštva. Škoda se mi zdi, da takšni običaji počasi izumirajo. Mladih ne zanima preveč tradicija, prazniki in kultura. Mislim, da ti lahko kultura vsadi lepe spomine, zato jo moramo ohraniti.
