CELINA CAJUN FEST: A REGIONAL EVENT YOU WON’T WANT TO MISS

The City is excited for the upcoming Celina Cajun Fest this weekend. This annual event has become one of the most popular regional festivals, attracting visitors from near and far. Presale ticket sales are currently ahead of last year’s numbers, reflecting the growing interest and enthusiasm for this highly anticipated event. This year’s music lineup is highlighted by country music headliners Casey Donahew and Mike Ryan, who are sure to deliver an unforgettable experience for festival-goers.

In addition to the great music, attendees will have the chance to explore the Gator Country Adventure Park, where they can get up close with a variety of animals, including alligators, snakes, and turtles. A special highlight will be the appearance of Kong, a massive 13-foot, 1,000-pound alligator, making a truly unique addition to this year’s festival. The Celina Cajun Fest continues to be one of the most vibrant events of the year, drawing visitors from all over the region and contributing to the local economy. We look forward to another exciting weekend of celebration, music, and community engagement.

HONORING OUR HEROES ON THE DOWNTOWN SQUARE

As part of National Police Week, the City invites residents to attend a special ceremony on Wednesday, May 14, beginning at 10:30 AM on the Downtown Square to honor the dedicated service and sacrifice of our law enforcement officers. This meaningful gathering is an opportunity to show support for the men and women who work tirelessly to protect our community each day. During the ceremony, we will also pay tribute to Fallen Officers from the past year, recognizing their unwavering commitment and ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

NORTH TEXAS CODE CONNECTION: MOSQUITO CONTROL STRATEGIES SHARED

On Thursday, May 1, the City of Celina had the privilege of hosting the North Texas Code Connection quarterly roundtable. This educational meeting featured Richard Milam, the Health Compliance Manager from the City of McKinney, who shared valuable insights into the City of McKinney’s mosquito control strategies. His presentation covered critical topics, including adulticiding policies and community-based approaches to preventing mosquito breeding. The roundtable format facilitated a dynamic exchange of information, policy questions, and innovative ideas.

The North Texas Code Connection provides small regional cities with a platform for collaboration, enabling participants to discuss best practices and gain feedback on emerging issues. Group members also have the opportunity to deliver presentations, helping them grow as public speakers. Additionally, by partnering with the Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation, members can earn Continuing Education Credits.

The meeting was well-attended by 24 staff members from a range of cities and counties, including Anna, Prosper, Melissa, McKinney, Shady Shores, Farmersville, Princeton, Collin County, The Colony, and Aubrey.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE: DOWNTOWN CENTER & PARKING GARAGE

This week, Swinerton completed the first concrete deck pour on Level 4, marking a significant milestone in the vertical progression of the structure. Additionally, installation of concrete masonry units (CMUs) commenced on the first floor, further advancing the building’s core and shell. Looking ahead to next week, Swinerton will continue with additional deck pours on the fourth level, alongside ongoing installation of electrical conduit and continued progress on CMU placement.

Inclement weather earlier in the week temporarily delayed operations on the Downtown Center; however, with improved conditions, crews have resumed site excavation and are actively working on the installation of soil nails and shoring of retaining walls to stabilize the area and support future construction phases.

FULL DEPTH RECLAMATION AND UTILITY UPGRADES ON NEW MEXICO DR

The New Mexico Dr construction project has been completed, marking a significant improvement in the City’s infrastructure. This project involved the full-depth reclamation and replacement of the asphalt pavement from Ash St to Pecan St, ensuring the integrity and longevity of the roadway. Additionally, extensive work was performed on the water and sewer systems, which were replaced along the section from Ash St to Elm St.

As part of the improvements, several drainage enhancements were made, addressing long-standing concerns and helping to mitigate flooding risks. The roadway was reconstructed through full-depth reclamation, a method that strengthens the pavement structure and provides a more durable and reliable surface for traffic.

This project is highly beneficial to residents as it enhances the overall quality of the infrastructure, reduces the likelihood of future road repairs, and increases the reliability and efficiency of the City’s utility systems. By investing in the long-term sustainability of our streets, water, and sewer networks, we ensure a safer and more resilient environment for our growing community.

WELCOMING NEW TEAM MEMBERS AND CELEBRATING A PROMOTION

The City is pleased to announce the addition of two new members to the Public Works Department. Sebastein Spencer has joined the team as a Wastewater Treatment Operator, and Danny Cervantes-Rivera has been appointed as a ULM Worker. We extend a warm welcome to both individuals and look forward to their contributions to the department. Additionally, congratulations are in order for Aimee Freise, who has been promoted to the position of Senior Utility Customer Service Representative within the Utility Customer Services Division. We commend Aimee for her dedication and are confident that she will continue to excel in her new role.

DALLAS NORTH TOLLWAY PHASE 4A PROJECT: LANE CLOSURE NOTIFICATION

As part of the ongoing work on the DNT Phase 4A project, please be advised that crews will be implementing the upcoming lane closures. These closures are necessary for transporting topsoil, performing a mass haul of materials, and completing clean-up work in the affected areas. Please note that the entire left lanes will not be closed, and we will ensure there are no conflicts between lane closures within the same areas. Additional closures will occur at construction exits as needed to maintain safety and efficient traffic flow.
