國際現代建築大會於 1959 年解體後，粗獷主義這個詞語，開始被用來歸納在全球不約而同出現的粗 糙、雕刻型體的建築現象，學者將之稱為「國際粗獷主義」。如同世界各地一般， 1960 年前後的臺 灣開始出現國際粗獷主義建築， Le Corbusier 亦是最主要的影響來源，比如公東高工、臺北醫學院 及聖心女中等。在 1960 年代至 1970 年代中期，臺灣粗獷主義建築發展的高峰期間，亦有幾件原創 性極高的作品，如高雄三信家商波浪大樓、中央研究院美國研究中心；也有與國族主義產生關聯， 其中最具代表者為高雄市文化中心。
When the dissolution of CIAM in 1959, the term “Brutalism”, instead, was used to describe the phenomena that rough, sculptural edifices simultaneously emerged around the world. These buildings were referred to as “International Brutalism” by the academics. Along with the rest of the world, International Brutalist architectures began to appear in Taiwan circa 1960s; like their international counterparts, they were also primarily influenced by Le Corbusier; cases in points are St. Joseph Kung-Tung Technical High School, Taipei Medical College and Sacred Heart High School for Girls. Several highly innovative projects marked the pinnacle of Taiwanese Brutalist architectural development from the 1960s to the mid-1970s, such as the Wave Tower of San Sin High School of Commerce and Home Economics and the Former Center of American Studies at Academia Sinica. Some of these buildings were related with Nationalism; the most representative one was the Kaohsiung Cultural Center.
