Exciting transitions
Meet our new principal Melisa “Mel” Viers Principal Viers comes to us from Arlington Elementary in the Toledo Public School system. She began her career as a special education teacher. She then transitioned into administration as an assistant principal before taking over as the principal of the school. Her main responsibilities included overseeing dayto-day operations, developing curriculum, conducting teacher evaluations, maintaining fiscal responsibility, researching available grants to fund school needs, and providing desired professional development for faculty and staff.
ooking out any window you can see how our area is transitioning into another season. New seasons always bring change. Cardinal Stritch may also feel and look like there is a new season happening as we have been experiencing numerous transitions ourselves. Always remember, that change and transition from our current season of life, prepares us for the next. I thank you all for your support as Principal Viers, faculty, staff, and myself, look forward to seeing what these positive transitions will bring to Cardinal Stritch.
The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever. ISAIAH 40:8
New academic curriculum options and partnerships, stronger and expanded athletic programs, active faith ministry and outreach, and the strengthening of our Cardinal students’ education experience, to name but a few. As always, you may reach me at wberry@cardinalstritch.org. I look forward to introducing myself to you at our campus Open House on Sunday, November 6, 2022 from 12:00 to 3:00 pm.
Disciples First,
BILL BERRY HEAD OF SCHOOL
Principal Viers attended Bowling Green State University where she earned her Bachelor of Communication prior to earning her Master of Education. She is committed to being a life-long learner and has since earned additional master’s degrees from both The University of Toledo and Grand Canyon University. She is an active member at St. Richard Roman Catholic Church in Swanton, along with her husband Denny and adult children, Hope (Richard) Martinez and Hunter. She understands the importance of Catholic education having made it a priority for her children from kindergarten through high school. Principal Viers’ love of education, love of family, and love of the Lord are very clear. You may have seen her at sporting events around town supporting our Cardinals, and she was in our most recent homecoming parade. Feel free to contact Principal Viers at mviers@cardinalstritch.org or meet her at our campus Open House on Sunday, November 6, from 12:00 - 3:00 pm.
COMMUNITY IS WELCOME TO ADORATION FRIDAYS Each first Friday of the month, Cardinal Stritch invites members of the community to join students to spend time with Jesus in the Eucharist from 8:30 am until 2:30 pm. Adoration is the worship of the Eucharist outside of the Mass. The Eucharistic Host is displayed in a monstrance on the altar so that all can see and pray in the presence of Christ. Deacon Mike Sarra ‘68 joins us at 2:15 pm for Benediction and reposition of the Eucharist to the tabernacle. To participate in Adoration, please enter through the main doors off Pickle Road and check-in at the front desk.
DID YOU KNOW?
Cardinals are typically the first bird to visit feeders in the morning and the last to visit in the evenings.

Get to know Alexa Soltes lexa Soltes is a senior at Cardinal Stritch Catholic High School & Academy and a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church. Alexa was named “Student of the Month” in September while maintaining a 4.06 GPA and is ranked in the top ten of her class. It has been a very busy fall for Alexa participating in cross country, soccer, color guard, band, National Honor Society, student council, and singing during Mass with Campus Ministry. She’ll add Cardio Drumming Club, tutoring Academy students after school, softball, add performing in our spring musical, to the list as the year goes on. She is hoping to continue her education at either BaldwinWallace University, Bowling Green State University, Francisican University of Steubenville, or Bluffton University to major in criminal justice and education. Alexa has been a Cardinal since the first grade. “Being a student at Cardinal Stritch has allowed me to participate in everything that I was interested in,” she said. “I was able to be in the band, theater, leadership clubs, and sports all of my years here at Stritch. I can’t wait to be involved in university clubs and intramural sports at whatever campus I choose!” Alexa is proof that you can be as involved as you are willing to work for, and we cannot wait to see what the future has in store for this bright and hardworking Cardinal.
