Meet our new principal Melisa “Mel” Viers
Principal Viers comes to us from Arlington Elementary in the Toledo Public School system. She began her career as a special education teacher. She then transitioned into administration as an assistant principal before taking over as the principal of the school. ooking out any window you can see how our area is transitioning into another season. New seasons always bring change. Cardinal Stritch may also feel and look like there is a new season happening as we have been experiencing numerous transitions ourselves. Always remember, that change and transition from our current season of life, prepares us for the next. I thank you all for your support as Principal Viers, faculty, staff, and myself, look forward to seeing what these positive transitions will bring to Cardinal Stritch.

New academic curriculum options and partnerships, stronger and expanded athletic programs, active faith ministry and outreach, and the strengthening of our Cardinal students’ education experience, to name but a few. As always, you may reach me at wberry@cardinalstritch.org.
I look forward to introducing myself to you at our campus Open House on Sunday, November 6, 2022 from 12:00 to 3:00 pm.
Principal Viers attended Bowling Green State University where she earned her Bachelor of Communication prior to earning her Master of Education. She is committed to being a life-long learner and has since earned additional master’s degrees from both The University of Toledo and Grand Canyon University. She is an active member at St. Richard Roman Catholic Church in Swanton, along with her husband Denny and adult children, Hope (Richard) Martinez and Hunter. She understands the importance of Catholic education having made it a priority for her children from kindergarten through high school.

Principal Viers’ love of education, love of family, and love of the Lord are very clear. You may have seen her at sporting events around town supporting our Cardinals, and she was in our most recent homecoming parade.
Feel free to contact Principal Viers at mviers@cardinalstritch.org or meet her at our campus Open House on Sunday, November 6, from 12:00 - 3:00 pm.
Community Is Welcome To Adoration Fridays

Each first Friday of the month, Cardinal Stritch invites members of the community to join students to spend time with Jesus in the Eucharist from 8:30 am until 2:30 pm. Adoration is the worship of the Eucharist outside of the Mass. The Eucharistic Host is displayed in a monstrance on the altar so that all can see and pray in the presence of Christ. Cardinals are typically the first bird to visit feeders in the morning and the last to visit in the evenings.

lexa Soltes is a senior at Cardinal Stritch Catholic High School & Academy and a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church. Alexa was named “Student of the Month” in September while maintaining a 4.06 GPA and is ranked in the top ten of her class.

It has been a very busy fall for Alexa participating in cross country, soccer, color guard, band, National Honor Society, student council, and singing during Mass with Campus Ministry. She’ll add Cardio Drumming Club, tutoring Academy students after school, softball, add performing in our spring musical, to the list as the year goes on.
She is hoping to continue her education at either BaldwinWallace University, Bowling Green State University, Francisican University of Steubenville, or Bluffton University to major in criminal justice and education. Alexa has been a Cardinal since the first grade. “Being a student at Cardinal Stritch has allowed me to participate in everything that I was interested in,” she said.
“I was able to be in the band, theater, leadership clubs, and sports all of my years here at Stritch. I can’t wait to be involved in university clubs and intramural sports at whatever campus I choose!”
Alexa is proof that you can be as involved as you are willing to work for, and we cannot wait to see what the future has in store for this bright and hardworking Cardinal.

Over the years, Cardinal Stritch has had many distinguished alumni who have done amazing things in their respective communities. One remarkable alumna is Dr. Susan K. Leguire, DNP ‘76. Dr. Leguire grew up in East Toledo as a member of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church. After attending Cardinal Stritch, Dr. Leguire earned a Nursing Diploma from Mercy College, a Bachelor of Art in biology from Lourdes University, a Master of Science in Nursing from University of Akron, and a Doctorate of Nursing Practice from Lourdes University.

Dr. Leguire has impacted many lives across Ohio with her numerous positions in the medical field. She has also published 17 articles in her profession. As much as she is academically gifted and successful, Dr. Leguire’s heart is even bigger. Dr. Leguire often volunteers with Meals on Wheels, the Humane Society, Compassionate Kitchen, and her local free health clinic. Dr. Leguire currently resides in Massillon, Ohio where she works independently in her many areas of expertise. She returned home to Cardinal Stritch last year to speak at our 60th Anniversary Mass and recently established a legacy gift for future Cardinal students. We are humbly grateful to Dr. Leguire for this gracious act. As she stated, “I would not be the person I am today, if it wasn't for the Catholic education I received at Cardinal Stritch. This is my way of providing that foundation to others.”

Open House is a chance for new families, as well as the community, to visit our campus and meet our students, faculty, and staff,” said Kevin Foos, Admissions & Enrollment Manager.
“You will have the opportunity to tour the campus and inquire about our academic coursework, college credit options, campus ministry, fine and performing arts, STEMM, esports, athletic programs, clubs, and more.”
New this year is our World Language immersion program, where students (grades 7-12) self-select from 25 global languages to study. Stop in for a demonstration and try the program.
The Cardinal Stritch Finance Department will also be available to share the many Cardinal Stritch scholarship and tuition assistance opportunities available. We seek to partner with all families who desire the high level of education offered here. That is why 95% of our Cardinal Stritch students receive tuition assistance.
