BRYAN LACEY NAMED STA DISPATCHER OF THE YEAR

CELEBRATING EXCELLENCE IN HR LEADERSHIP

COMING SOON: DAYFORCE HRIS LAUNCH

WINNERS OF THE 2025 SCHOLASTIC ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS

TRUE NORTH "ABOVE AND BEYOND" WINNERS

IT ALL BEGINS WITH SAFETY

WORKING AROUND HAZARDS

Safety starts with awareness recognizing hazards and acting quickly to control them.

Common hazards include:

Safety hazards: Unguarded machinery, electrical issues, ice or snow, and spills

Physical hazards: Excessive noise, temperature extremes, radiation, or vibration

Chemical hazards: Cleaning products, paints, or flammable liquids

Biological hazards: Viruses, bacteria, fungi, or exposure to animals or insects

Ergonomic hazards: Strain from lifting, repetitive tasks, or poor workstation setup

Work organization hazards: Stress, bullying, or harassment

Control Hazards the Smart Way: The Hierarchy of Controls

Eliminate – Remove the hazard completely

Substitute – Replace it with something safer

Engineer – Add guards, barriers, or ventilation

Administer – Improve procedures, training, or signage PPE – Use personal protective equipment as the last line of defence

Safety starts with awareness. See something? Say something. Report any hazard immediately to your supervisor or safety representative. It's not just good practice. It's a legal requirement to help keep everyone safe

COMING SOON: DAYFORCE HRIS LAUNCH

We're excited to announce that Canada Cartage is implementing Dayforce, a new all-in-one Human Resources Information System (HRIS) that will manage payroll, benefit enrolments, scheduling, and time tracking on a single platform

The project is already underway, with teams from HR, Payroll and IT leading the rollout. Dayforce will replace several existing systems, but not A1 or Transman. UKG Time & Attendance will no longer be supported by UKG in 2026, so a change was needed

Dayforce will make everyday tasks easier with automation, a mobile-friendly design, and AI-powered tools for employees and managers. It will also provide improved reporting, better data accuracy, and a consistent experience across all business units.

The system is scheduled to launch in phases beginning in the Spring of 2026, with all companies expected to be live by July 2026

More details will be shared in the coming months, including launch information, training, and resources to help everyone get started.

DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME SAFETY

On Sunday, November 2 , most of North America will turn their clocks back one hour for the end of Daylight Saving Time. Of course, most of us think: "Fantastic! I got another hour of sleep". However, a significant difference exists between our "society clock" and our "biological clock." nd

Statistics show an increase in safety incidents during these changes, putting drivers and pedestrians at risk In addition, darkness during

rush hour reduces visibility of vehicles, hazards, and pedestrians during peak traffic times. The end of Daylight Saving Time can also leave many of us feeling tired, posing safety risks at home and in the workplace.

You can prepare yourself for a return to Standard Time by taking a few extra measures:

Get enough rest. The time change throws off your body's internal clock and can impact the quality of your sleep Never drive while overtired The shift from drowsy to asleep at the wheel can happen faster than people think

Drive defensively. You may be feeling alert – but not everyone is. Be aware of people who drift between lanes or stop abruptly, and leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle in front of you.

Watch for pedestrians and cyclists. Approach all crosswalks and intersections slowly and check your mirrors for oncoming cyclists or pedestrians before making any turns.

Prepare your vehicle for driving in darker conditions Ensure your headlights, windows, taillights, signal lights, and windshield wipers are clean and in good working condition so you can see and be seen on the road Keep your line of vision clear by brushing away any snow from your car or truck before driving.

GET CONNECTED HIDDEN GEMS: A NEW AI EMAIL SCAM

Cybercriminals are finding new ways to deceive even using Google Workspace's Gemini AI. In this scam, you receive an email that looks normal and has no suspicious links or attachments. But when you ask Gemini to summarize it, the summary warns that your password has been compromised and provides a fake support number to call

What's really happening? The scammers have hidden invisible text inside the email. While you can't see it, Gemini can and it uses that text to create a false security alert. If you call the number, you'll reach a cybercriminal trying to steal your login details

Stay Safe

Don't trust "urgent" security alerts in AI-generated summaries real alerts won't appear there. Never call numbers or follow instructions from an AI summary. If something sounds alarming but wasn't in the original message, it's likely a scam.

TRUE NORTH ABOVE AND BEYOND WINNERS

The True North program recognizes company drivers and staff demonstrating outstanding customer service, teamwork, and core values. The program encourages managers, supervisors, and co-workers to acknowledge employees with specially designed recognition cards and certificates.

Quarterly, a team in each region (B.C., Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, and Quebec) reviews all submissions and looks for our staff's exemplary actions. Those who have gone "Above and Beyond" will receive a $50.00 gift certificate. There are multiple awards per region each quarter.

Quarter 3 "Above and Beyond" Winners of $50.00 Gift Certificates

The committee reviewed all submissions and chose the following employees for last quarter's "Above and Beyond Award".

Howard Brooks, Company Driver, Mississauga, Ontario

Howard arrived at Interstate Batteries in Kitchener, a Clarios customer, to complete a scheduled pickup. When he got there, the staff realized they had forgotten about the pickup and were unprepared, as their shipper had gone home early and no one on-site was trained to wrap skids or load the trailer. Seeing their concern, Howard offered to help and, with permission, used their power jack and wrap to prepare and load the skids himself. The customer was extremely appreciative, and the warehouse manager later sent an email thanking Howard for his professionalism and support

Marc Dupuis, Regional Manager, Fleet Safety, CommerceLink Logistics, Cornwall, Ontario

Marc consistently demonstrates professionalism, reliability, and commitment in his role. He manages challenging situations with respect and composure and maintains open communication with employees and drivers Marc actively participates in safety initiatives, including Brake Safety Week, contributing to a strong CVOR score He is available to his team at all times, maintains an open-door policy, and ensures safety concerns are addressed promptly. Marc promotes a safety-focused environment, supports driver training programs, and encourages accountability and growth within his team.

Tina Lajeunesse, Dispatcher, Edmonton, Alberta

During Driver Appreciation Week, staff were in the office early to help with a pancake breakfast. Later that evening, a midnight barbecue was held for night-shift drivers who arrived between 11:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. Although not part of the same division and new to the company, Tina voluntarily returned to the terminal late that night to assist and provide support. Her willingness to help with an event outside her area of responsibility demonstrated initiative and genuine teamwork.

J.C. Nsembani, Licensing and Permits Administrator, Mississauga, Ontario

While conducting a routine fuel card audit, J.C. identified a case of fuel fraud totaling $18,486.87 on one of the site's cards. He immediately placed the card on hold and notified the appropriate contacts. His prompt action stopped further fraudulent activity and enabled Canada Cartage to recover the full amount. J.C.'s attention to detail and quick response prevented additional financial loss and ensured the issue was resolved efficiently.

Congratulations to all of the winners! As quarterly winners, they are now eligible to be selected as one of our three 2025 President's Award winners.

WELLNESS CORNER

FINDING BALANCE DURING A BUSY HOLIDAY SEASON

The holidays can be a wonderful time, but they can also feel overwhelming. Between busy schedules, family plans, and money worries, it's easy to feel stressed You're not alone Most Canadians feel some pressure during this time of year

Here are a few simple ways to keep things in balance:

Feeling overloaded? Set aside time just for yourself.

Family stress? Focus on what matters most and set healthy boundaries.

Tight budget? Remember, meaningful gestures often mean more than pricey gifts.

Chasing perfection? Let go of "perfect" and enjoy the moments instead.

Feeling lonely or missing someone? Reach out, volunteer, or find a way to honour loved ones.

Low energy? Get outside for fresh air and daylight whenever you can.

If stress feels like too much, talk to someone a friend, counsellor, or health professional. You don't have to go through it alone.

This year, give yourself the gift of balance Take breaks, lower expectations, and focus on what truly brings you joy
