SAFETY CORNER STAYING SAFE IN THE WAREHOUSE

Warehouses and cross-docks can be hazardous due to heavy machinery, high shelving, forklifts, potentially dangerous substances, and a fast-paced working environment. Failing to maintain safety precautions can result in accidents, injuries, and even fatalities. Therefore, employees and employers must adhere to safety protocols and promote a safety culture in the warehouse.

Avoid wearing excessively loose-fitting clothing. Loose clothing can get caught on or in machines and may cause personal injury.

Keep all areas clean and debris-free to prevent slips, trips, and falls. Be aware of your surroundings. Always look before crossing an aisle or going around corners.

Only operate machinery with the proper training and certificates.

Inspect ladders and portable stairs before each use.

Before pulling or putting stock away, know the weight restrictions for all storage racks and lifting devices. Immediately report any potential safety hazards to supervisors.

Wear the prescribed Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the job function you are performing. These items may include, but are not limited to: steel toed boots, reflective /high-visibility vests, safety glasses, gloves, and coveralls. Visitors to a warehouse or cross-dock must wear closed-toe shoes.

The risk of accidents can be minimized by prioritizing safety and creating a healthier and more productive work environment.

Calgary

LTL Davand and Ottawa

Special kudos to LTL Davand (Mississauga), Calgary and Ottawa. These three teams kept their idle in the single digits for the entire month!

Team members and drivers from those teams are eligible to win from the collection of the awesome prizes.

There is still one more month to win! Ensure you're doing your part to help your team hit your idle target! For more information on the "Idle Attack" contest, speak to your supervisor.

NOW LIVE: SALESFORCE.COM

Sales, Marketing, and Account Management have moved to a new online tool with Salesforce.com, an industryleading Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platform.

The new CRM will help teams better manage customer interactions and data throughout the customer lifecycle, from acquisition to retention and expansion. As a result, Salesforce.com will help increase efficiency, improve customer relationships, and drive sales growth.

The project team included sales, marketing and account management members from all our divisions. The implementation included compiling data from our transport and logistics divisions and data from Speedee, Mackie Transport, Stalco, Seaway, Laurentien, and our Final Mile group. Having prospect and customer data from all divisions in one platform will enhance our ability to cross-sell business, grow customer relationships, and better manage accounts that use multiple services.

PLAID FOR DAD FRIDAY, JUNE 16, 2023

Canada Cartage is pleased to join Prostate Cancer Canada this Father's Day and go Plaid for Dad!

Thousands of workplaces across Canada will Go Plaid on June 16, the Friday before Father's Day, to raise prostate cancer awareness. All employees are encouraged to wear plaid that day to celebrate fathers, step-fathers, grandfathers, uncles, brothers and sons.

Excellent customer service is the cornerstone of our business, and the Speedee team has exemplified this on two separate occasions and in two different locations.

A Speedee driver from Burnaby, B.C. (name withheld due to request), and account rep Lu Yu, received a 5-Star Award of Excellence from Purolator for exemplary customer service. This driver was delivering a heavy package to the residence of someone who was ill at their home. The driver brought the box to the residence and helped the recipient to get the package inside the front door. This driver went above and beyond with this home delivery, and both the recipient and Purolator were grateful for his actions.

The Loblaw Transport Team, based out of Richmond, B.C., commended Speedee dispatchers Alisha Munroe and Natalie Viau for their excellent customer service and collaborative teamwork. "Alisha and Natalie are great dispatchers! The teams appreciate working with them daily," commented Shawn McNeill (LCL), Loblaws.

NEW BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT

Starting earlier this year, the Speedee team has been focusing on LTL and TL opportunities for shipments travelling from Mexico into the U.S. and Canada. The business development team has secured customers in the food, beverage, and automotive sectors. Speedee arranges for pick-up of goods in Mexico, and then coordinates deliveries throughout the U.S. and Canada as part of the CUSMA agreement (Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement).

The team at Speedee is excited to participate in this busy international trade route and is focused on expanding further into the cross-border marketplace with the new business. If you have customers that have regular shipments from Mexico to the rest of North America, contact Melissa Del Rosario at Speedee at melissa.delrosario@speedeetransport.com.

MS OUTLOOK ONLINE

IT is in the final stages of planning for the deployment of Microsoft Office Outlook 365 to all employees with a Canada Cartage email.

Users will be rolled out in phases starting in early June.

Please watch for more information on deployment coming soon.

Those lazy, hazy, crazy summer days will soon be upon us. And while we all enjoy the sun, it is essential to remember that in Canada, from April to September, we should wear sunscreen every day when the UV index is consistently above three. It is also imperative to remember to protect yourself from the sun when it is at its strongest between 11 am and 3 pm year-round by wearing sunscreen, staying in a shaded area when outside, and wearing a hat.

Here are some sunscreen tips:

Sunscreens should not be used after the expiry date. Sunscreens contain chemicals that eventually break down, compromising the product's effectiveness. In addition, keeping sunscreen in a hot environment, such as a hot car or a beach bag, will accelerate the deterioration of the product.

Look for a product with a minimum SPF of 30-labelled "broad spectrum" to protect against UVA and UVB ultraviolet rays.

Sunscreen works immediately after applying. However, before swimming, sunscreen should "set" on your skin for at least 15 minutes, or it may wash off.

Reapply sunscreen after swimming, strenuous exercise, or toweling off.

When purchasing sunscreen, look for the Canadian Dermatology Association (CDA) logo to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the sunscreen.
