WE’VE DONE IT AGAIN –10 YEARS STRONG AS A TOP FLEET EMPLOYER!

We’re proud to share some exciting news—Canada Cartage has been named a 2025 Top Fleet Employer by Trucking HR Canada… for the tenth year in a row!

This recognition celebrates the best workplaces in Canada’s trucking and logistics industry, and being selected for a full decade is an incredible achievement. It reflects the strength of our culture, our commitment to safety, and the passion and dedication of our people across the country.

The Top Fleet Employers program evaluates companies based on key HR practices like recruitment and retention, workplace culture, compensation, training and development, and innovative programs. To be recognized for ten straight years shows that Canada Cartage continues to lead the way in putting people first.

“This milestone is a direct result of the incredible work our teams do every day.” said Stephen Fletcher, CHRO of Canada Cartage. “It’s a proud moment for all of us, and a powerful reflection of the kind of workplace we’ve built together.”

Thank you to everyone—drivers, warehouse staff, dispatchers, mechanics, office teams, and leadership. This award belongs to you, and it wouldn’t be possible without your hard work, teamwork, and commitment.

Let’s take a moment to celebrate this milestone together. Here’s to the next ten!

SPRING DRIVING SAFETY REMINDERS

Spring weather is generally less dangerous than winter, but hazards can still occur. It's essential to pay attention to the weather and always be aware of your surroundings.

Here are some spring driving safety reminders:

Slow Down: Reduce speed, especially in wet conditions or areas with pedestrians and cyclists.

Share the Road: Be mindful of all road users, including pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists.

Watch for Children: Pay extra attention near schools, parks, and residential areas for children riding bikes or playing outdoors near the road.

Watch for Motorcycles: Be aware of motorcycles, which can be hard to see in blind spots.

Avoid Distractions: Stay focused on the road and avoid distractions like phones.

Be Alert: Continuously scan the road and stay aware of your surroundings.

Defensive Driving: Maintain a safe distance and anticipate potential hazards.

Sun Glare: Be prepared for glare, especially at sunrise and sunset, and use sunglasses or a visor.

Wildlife: Stay alert for wildlife, especially in spring when they're more active near roads.

Follow these spring driving tips to help keep you driving safely all season long.

CELEBRATING 35 YEARS OF SEAWAY EXPRESS

As part of the Canada Cartage family, we’re proud to recognize an exciting milestone for one of our own. On May 2, 2025, Seaway Express celebrates 35 years of outstanding service in Eastern Ontario and Quebec.

Since joining Canada Cartage in 2022, Seaway has continued building on its strong local roots and customer-first values, defining its success since 1990. Based in Cornwall, Ontario Seaway has grown into a trusted regional carrier with a fleet of more than 65 vehicles and a 35,000-square-foot terminal strategically located near major distribution centers.

Their team’s dedication and deep industry knowledge have earned them numerous awards, including multiple “Shipper’s Choice” recognitions and Cornwall’s “Business of the Year.” But what truly sets them apart is the passion they bring to their work daily—and the strong relationships they’ve built with customers and partners over the last three and a half decades.

“Reaching 35 years is a milestone that speaks to the dedication of our team and the loyalty of our customers,” says General Manager Melanie Hamel. “We’re excited for what the future holds.”

EDMONTON TERMINAL'S 2025 FUNDRAISING EFFORTS: SUPPORTING LOCAL CAUSES WITH HEART

The Edmonton Terminal is excited to announce its commitment to hosting quarterly fundraising events throughout 2025. In the first quarter, they supported a cause very close to the heart of one of their team members, Jason Norrish —Second Chance Animal Rescue Society (SCARS).

SCARS is an incredible local organization dedicated to rescuing and re-homing needy dogs. Jason, involved with SCARS, has been working hard to find loving homes for dogs who deserve a second chance. The terminal's fundraising efforts for SCARS reflect this deep connection to the cause.

During this quarter's event, they organized a raffle for tickets to an Edmonton Oilers game alongside various other fundraising activities. They are thrilled to report raising a total of $1,000!

The Edmonton terminal is also excited to announce its next fundraising initiative, supporting Autism awareness. This event will culminate in June with a team-building activity, including a bike, walk, run, or roll event at a local park. A local community group will host this event, and the Edmonton terminal is encouraging their colleagues and their families to get involved by seeking pledges. The Edmonton terminal will also hold monthly draws that contribute to their goal of making a meaningful impact.

The Edmonton terminal’s commitment to working as a team remains is at the forefront of their efforts. Through these fundraising initiatives, they strive to build morale and support and uplift the local charities that make a difference in their community. Stay tuned for more updates on their upcoming events as they positively impact Edmonton and beyond.

JETCO HOSTS ANNUAL SAFETY MEETING

An impending wind and rainstorm did not deter Jetco from hosting its annual safety meeting at its Houston headquarters on Saturday, April 6, 2025. Since post-COVID, Jetco has livestreamed its meeting between its Houston and Dallas (Arlington, TX) offices. This year, the Houston facility had a quick venue change, moving the event inside our warehouse to avoid potential bad weather.

Across the two offices, 236 employees and their family members attended. Jetco Vice President of Safety Jeff McKinney kicked off the meeting with a safety moment, followed by Jetco President Kyle Kristynik, who gave a state-of-the-union with encouraging remarks about our growth, backing from our parent company and collaborations with our sister companies, and resilient company culture. Former Jetco CEO Brian Fielkow served as our keynote speaker, with an inspiring talk about the evolution of Jetco, which will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year and which celebrates its 10th anniversary at this Aldine Bender location.

Other special guests included Precision Specialized President Ed Bernard and Canada Cartage Senior Executive Vice President of Mergers and Acquisitions Jason Cunneyworth.

Before breaking for lunch, employees received safety training on Origo, a technology that helps our professional drivers better perform DVIR inspections and helps improve security and tracking of our equipment. Shop Manager Curtis Jordanwalked Jetco team members through compliant pre- and post-trip inspections, and Jeff introduced us to the Jetco safety and wellness committee members, who serve as a bridge between office staff and our professional drivers.

During lunch, Kyle presented longevity and Extra Mile awards, as well as raffle prizes. Employees received raffle tickets in exchange for canned good donations, which this year benefited Northwest Assistance Ministries, a nonprofit, community-based, multi-program social service agency that strives to meet basic human needs through Neighbors Helping Neighbors.

Thanks to all who attended, and we look forward to a successful 2025!

CYBER SECURITY - FAKE ADS, REAL FRAUD

Cybercriminals are targeting digital marketing professionals by purchasing fake Google ads, also known as malvertising. This scam begins when you search Google for the login page for Semrush, a popular online digital marketing platform. The search results include what appears to be a sponsored Semrush ad. The ad is one of the top search results, and if you click it, you are taken to what seems to be the Semrush login page.

The login page looks genuine, but it is a bit unusual since it only allows you to log in using your Google username and password. That’s because this isn’t a real login page. If you enter your Google login information, cybercriminals will be able to access your Google account, which can contain your credit card number and other business information. Then, they use your account to steal your money or even trick others into sending them personal and financial information! Follow these tips to avoid falling victim to a malvertising scam:

Avoid clicking on promoted or sponsored Google results. Anyone can purchase a Google ad, so navigating to the official website is always safer.

Always check URLs to ensure you are visiting official websites and remember to bookmark your frequently visited login pages.

While this scam is dedicated toward marketers, remember that cybercriminals can use fake Google ads to target professionals in many industries. Always think before you click!

WELLNESS CORNER

MAY IS NATIONAL SUN AWARENESS MONTH

Skin cancer is the most common cancer, but also one of the most preventable. In Canada, 1 in 48 people will be diagnosed with melanoma in their lifetime. There are two main types: melanoma, which starts in skin pigment cells (melanocytes), and non-melanoma, which begins in basal or squamous skin cells. Early detection improves treatment outcomes, so talk to your doctor about regular skin checks.

Look out for changes in your skin, such as:

A sore that doesn't heal

A mole that bleeds, oozes, or is crusty

A mole or birthmark that changes in size, color, or shape

Itchy or sore areas

Rough, red, scaly patches

Small, smooth, shiny lumps (white, pink, or red)

Pale, flat areas that resemble scars

Lumps that indent in the center

Use sunscreen with the Canadian Dermatology Association (CDA) logo to protect your skin. It should be broadspectrum with an SPF of 30 or higher, non-irritating, and hypoallergenic. In Canada, wear sunscreen daily from April to September, especially between 11 am and 3 pm. Sunscreen is also necessary in winter, as snow and water can reflect UV rays, intensifying sun exposure. Always choose a sunscreen with at least SPF 30 labeled "broad spectrum" to block UVA and UVB rays.
