A letter from the president
Dear fellow traders and professionals,
I’m sure you’re all gearing up for a busy Christmas trading season. Customers are predicted to start Christmas shopping early and spread out purchases, with many planning to buy a lot of gifts at Black Friday sales, so do what you can to prepare.
Congratulations to the winning traders in the Camberwell Culinary Awards. Customers were invited to vote for their favourite food businesses and had to upload a receipt to prove they made a purchase. The goal was to get people to try new businesses and for traders to engage with customers by encouraging them to vote for a chance to win a major prize.
This year’s Kylie and Dannii Day, jointly hosted with Rotary Camberwell Sunday Market, was our biggest yet. The entertainers were amazing and the crowd had fun with the trivia, fashion parade and music. Camberwell Junction appeared on so many social media feeds, including posts by Dannii Minogue, and also featured on Channel 9 news, ABC radio, 3AW and The Age which was excellent publicity for the precinct.
This year we held our first Halloween event in partnership with Camberwell Fresh Food Market and Camberwell Place. We put on activities for people to
enjoy, including face painting, live music, arts and crafts, cookie decorating and balloon modelling. The day was incredibly popular and attracted a huge crowd so we’ll review ways we can expand the event for next year.
Christmas decorations are up in the street, advertising is underway, and our annual Christmas Family Day is on December 7. All the entertainment is free and Santa will be here, so let your customers know about it. This is our biggest marketing campaign so make the most of it by running specials, holding in store activations, decorating your windows, and playing festive music. Don’t forget to tell us what you have planned so we can promote it in our marketing.
Remember to check the Trader Portal at camberwellshopping.com.au to keep up to date with business and government announcements. And be sure to send us details about your offers and specials so we can promote them. Email details and images to: info@camberwellca.com.au
Wishing you all a safe, happy and successful festive season.
Regards, Henk Kelly Kobes President, Camberwell Centre Association
Marketing snapshot
The Camberwell Culinary Awards returned this year to promote the food and dining category. The campaign gave members of the public the ability to vote for their favourite food venues in Camberwell Junction for the chance to win $500 to spend in the precinct. Congratulations to the winning traders in the awards: Provence Artisan Bakers (Best Coffee), Provence Artisan Bakers (Best Brunch), Glenferrie Crepe Cafe Camberwell (Best Sweet Treat), La Cabra (Best Drinking Spot), Con Noi Italian Trattoria (Best Casual Dining), Franco Belge (Best Fine Dining), Boost Juice (Best Healthy Option), and Chargrill Charlie’s (Best Takeaway). We look forward to drumming up more interest for next year’s awards. We recently ran minor marketing activities including a spring promotion to highlight shops and services for the season. This included social media posts, as well as an editorial series on the website. We also published the latest edition of The Camberwell Citizen which is now available in the precinct and will be distributed across the Christmas and summer period. To leverage the popularity of Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales, we’re running a radio advertising
campaign on Fox FM to encourage in store visits and digital advertising to promote your sales and offers.
Our online marketing activities continue to yield strong results. Here’s a snapshot of Camberwell Junction’s digital audience numbers:
• More than 8100 email addresses in our subscriber database
• More than 173,000 visits to the websites over the past year
• More than 9700 followers on social media.

FAMILY DAY CHRISTMAS CHRISTMAS
Our Christmas Family Day will run on Saturday, December 7 from 11am – 3pm across the shopping precinct.
Our Christmas Family Day is designed to create a focus for our Christmas promotions, drawing people to the precinct for their Christmas shopping and to celebrate the season with free family fun.
Visitors will be invited to collect their activity checklist from our Christmas headquarters, adjacent to the Camberwell Fresh Food Market. From here, they can attend the many activations across the precinct, including photos with Santa, rides on an antique fire truck, an arts and crafts station, a photo wall with a professional photographer to capture families and pets, plus our annual Where’s Rudolph? competition. We’ll also have plenty of entertainment on the day such as live jazz music, roving circus entertainers, face painting, balloon modellers, and more.
All of these activities are designed to move people around the precinct, encouraging them to explore different areas and new stores. The roving entertainment and music will create a festive atmosphere.
HOW YOU CAN MAKE THE MOST OF THE CHRISTMAS FAMILY DAY
There are plenty of ways you can leverage the promotions and make the most of increased foot traffic expected on the day. Here are some ideas on how you can participate:
• Create a festive shop window display
• Play festive music in your store
• Get your staff to dress in a Christmas theme
• Offer free gift wrapping to customers
• Facilitate charitable contributions from sales on the day
• Provide special offers or in store activations
• Sell pre wrapped gift packs or display a table of gifts for Mum/Dad/under $30 etc.
If you do place stock or a gift table outside your shop, it must be kerbside and adhere to council rules.
Make sure you tell us about your offers or events so we can share them on our social media and via our promoters on the day. Email your details to: info@camberwellca.com.au
We’ll provide a digital marketing ‘trader pack’ for you to use – this will help promote the precinct’s events to your customers. If you are not receiving these or our monthly email updates, you may need to re subscribe to our database or update your details as it is in your interest to be informed about the precinct activities and marketing opportunities to help your business.
DIGITAL MARKETING CAMPAIGN
With a strong digital presence, we’re in a good position to promote Camberwell Junction as a leading shopping destination for Christmas.
We’ll have a comprehensive campaign to publicise our Christmas shopping and activities, including articles, direct email campaigns, animated advertisements, and branded updates on our website. This will be supported by digital advertising and social media advertising. We’ll also run radio advertising on Magic 1278 and 3AW to promote Christmas in Camberwell Junction, and continue our general brand messaging.
CAPITALISE ON CHRISTMAS TRADE
Christmas decorations are now up across the precinct to make it look festive and inviting – there are festive tree and bin surrounds, Christmas tree boxes, a decorated laneway, and other attractive features across the precinct.
With Christmas trade in full swing, we encourage you to consider late night trading close to Christmas, or extended trading hours throughout December to ensure you can make the most of this increased sales period.
We will provide your stores with special ‘holiday trading hours’ posters that you can display in your windows, while flyers will be distributed to 28,000 local homes to keep nearby residents informed about our Christmas offerings.
Please contact Kerry if you have any questions regarding Christmas marketing activities.

In partnership with the Rotary Camberwell Sunday Market, we ran Kylie and Dannii Day on Sunday, October 20. The event ran for the third year in a row and drew the biggest crowd yet.
The event was designed to celebrate the iconic singers Kylie Minogue and Dannii Minogue. The famous sisters grew up in Camberwell, attended nearby schools, and now also live in the local area –and their connection to the local area was celebrated at the event.
Entertainers Della Katessen, HollyPop and Brenda Bressed hosted the day, and there was a special performance from Melbourne’s most famous Kylie

impersonator, Millie Minogue. DJ Argonaut kept the crowds happy with a continuous flow of Kylie and Dannii songs throughout the day. Fans of the pop stars were enthusiastic participants on the day, with many dressing up in their favourite Kylie and Dannii outfits.
Camberwell Junction appeared on many social media feeds, including posts by Dannii Minogue, and also featured on Channel 9 news, ABC radio, 3AW and The Age which was excellent publicity for the precinct.
Thank you to everyone who came along to Kylie and Dannii Day and participated in the activities. There was a wonderful community atmosphere and it made for a positive and uplifting day.

This year we held our first Halloween event in partnership with Camberwell Fresh Food Market and Camberwell Place. We put on a range of activities for people to enjoy, including face painting, live music, arts and crafts, cookie decorating and balloon modelling.
The day was incredibly popular, with many children (and some adults) dressed up in costume to celebrate the occasion. We attracted a bigger crowd than expected so we’ll look at ways we can expand the event next year and create opportunities for further engagement.
