School Prospectus 2025

Principal’s Welcome
Mr Keith Willett
School years have a profound significance in shaping the trajectory of an individual's life. At Cobram Anglican Grammar School (Cobram AGS), we cherish the opportunity to contribute positively to the development of our students' values – from the tender years of early childhood – through the transformative journey to adolescence. Being able to facilitate this journey of personal and academic growth is one of the many advantages of being a Foundation to Year 12 school.
As an Anglican school, our philosophy is one of inclusion. We embrace students from all backgrounds and faiths, as well as students of no faith.
Our mission extends beyond the mere transmission of skills and knowledge. We aspire to create a learning environment where students feel safe and secure, providing a stable platform to grow academically, emotionally and socially. Drawing from my career in education, I've come to appreciate the significance of a supportive and nurturing environment as I truly believe this enables students to exhibit the best version of themselves.
At our school, students are encouraged to embark on a journey of self-discovery and embrace challenges, whilst actively engaging in all areas of school life; whether they be academic, sporting, cultural or community service pursuits.
In my view, there has never been a more exciting time to enter our school community. Over the past 12 months we have set out to meaningfully widen the scope of offerings available within our secondary school curriculum to ensure we are well placed to cater for all students in our local region, regardless of their academic level, interests and preferred career pathways. This has led to the introduction of our inaugural Sports Academy program, the VCE Vocational Major and the Project Ready work readiness program. These are all fantastic initiatives which are giving our students greater opportunities and flexibility in the way they manage their individual pathway.
In addition to these new elective offerings in our secondary school, we have commenced works on constructing a $2.6 million state-of-the-art Trades Centre thanks to funding from the Federal Government and support from AngliSchools. Expected to open for classes in the second half of 2025, this facility will feature working areas for car mechanics, metal work and timber work, as well as a dedicated classroom space.
Students will have access to cutting edge equipment such as two robotic arms, CNC machines, laser cutters, water jet cutters and 3D printers, putting them at the frontier of modern technology that is being used across a range of industries.
This is a hugely exciting development for our school and will no doubt lead to some terrific employment opportunities for our students in the future.
With all of this development pushing our school forward and enhancing the educational opportunities available to our students, it is a truly compelling time to join the Cobram AGS community.
I extend a warm invitation for you to come and explore first-hand what makes our school such a special and vibrant place. Enrolment tours can be booked at any time during the school week. Whether you're considering enrolment opportunities or simply want to know more about what our school can offer your child, I would encourage you to contact me via email at principal@cags.vic.edu.au or phone the school office on (03) 5871 1816 to arrange a meeting with me.
With Regards

Our Philosophy Integrity Endeavour Community

Cobram Anglican Grammar School is a centre for educational excellence, endeavour and inclusion: we inspire our students to be their best and contribute to our local community.
The three main pillars for our school are Integrity, Endeavour and Community:
• Integrity: always be honest and true in all dealings with one another.
• Endeavour: always be prepared to do one’s best, no matter the obstacles.
• Community: always be supportive of one another, and recognise the intrinsic value of every individual’s contribution.
Discover our point of difference by scanning the QR code and watching a short video on our school philosophy.
Cobram AGS has a proud Anglican tradition, and aims to develop the whole person. Spiritual and moral growth and maturity are developed hand in hand with academic pursuits. Our highly skilled staff members provide quality education opportunities in a caring and pastoral atmosphere.
The core values of the Anglican Schools Commission and Cobram AGS are:
• Faith: Living by Gospel values.
• Excellence: Pursuing high standards in all things.
• Justice: Demonstrating fairness, compassion and conviction.
• Respect: Respecting self, others and our planet.
• Integrity: Acting with honesty and openness.
• Inclusion: Promoting diversity and celebrating difference.
We expect and trust that all of our students and staff follow and respect our school values whilst always striving to be their best and treat others how they would like to be treated.

What is Anglican Identity?
Our Anglican Identity is the grounding on which our school is built. It permeates every aspect of our school life: love, compassion, hope, justice, diversity and inclusion.
The Reverend Dr Daniel Heischman, Executive Director of the National Association of Episcopal Schools in the USA described Anglican schools in Australia as “welcoming places, enriched by the presence of those who practise other faiths as well as no faith at all.”
He also states that “participation often precedes understanding; experiencing worship paves the way to deeper meaning ”.
This description certainly underpins our philosophy and values. Students in our school community of other faith or no faith have equal opportunity to participate in thinking about the way faith can impact their lives.
To help give these important discussions greater context, we have a School Chaplain who spends several days a week on campus. The Chaplain facilitates weekly Chapel Services rotating between our Junior School and Senior School. These services allow our students to explore what our Anglican Identity means to them.

Student Support Services
Student support services at Cobram AGS aim to:
• assist students to develop as healthy, secure and resilient adults
• enable students to take full advantage of all the learning opportunities offered at the school
• acknowledge the key concepts of ‘continuity of care’ and the importance of forming nurturing partnerships between the school and families/guardians
Student Learning and Wellbeing
Cobram AGS is committed to supporting the holistic development of its students – particularly in the space of emotional wellbeing. The school employs a full time School Counsellor who is available to provide guidance and assistance regarding school, family, or personal matters.
For those needing a formal psychological assessment for their child, our Head of Education Support can refer families to a psychologist who is available to conduct assessments on a fee for service basis.
Heads of School
The Heads of School should be contacted for assistance with urgent student matters, inside or outside the classroom.
Education Support
At Cobram AGS, we are proud to have an extensive Education Support team that operate across our Junior and Senior School classrooms. Our Education Support Officers provide dedicated assistance to students requiring additional help with their learning. Students also have the opportunity to attend Homework Club once per week if they feel as though they need extra support.

Year Nine
Students in Year Nine challenge themselves through their participation in a broad range of learning opportunities that set the foundation for their final years of schooling and help drive self-enrichment.
Students in this year level are asked to test themselves in their academic studies and strive to be the best version of themselves in all aspects. Students are encouraged to make positive choices in and out of the classroom, and to build on their previous learning and experiences.
It is important that students in Year Nine develop a growth mindset that is underpinned by a strong work ethic and sound study skills because this will set them up to thrive in their future years. Our curriculum and wellbeing programs incorporate self-regulation, organisation and time management skills. Year Nine students are empowered to take responsible risks and learn from their mistakes as this is all part of their journey in navigating the challenges of adolescence.
Year Ten
The Year Ten curriculum is designed to be challenging and engaging so students can step up to the demands and opportunities that will follow in Year Eleven and Year Twelve. Students develop an enterprising mindset to prepare them academically, emotionally and socially for the pace of undertaking the VCE or applied learning pathway.
In this year level, we support and enable our students to take ownership of their preferred career pathway, self-manage and become independent learners. They are nurtured through career and course counselling so they can make informed choices, in turn providing a strong base for strategic career development and lifelong learning.
Pathway and Elective Opportunities

• a comprehensive breadth of subject offerings, tailored to suit each individual student’s interests, abilities and passions.
We encourage the pursuit of academic excellence and emphasise the value of obtaining the VCE as the foundation of our Senior School program. Through some fantastic relationships with external providers, we can facilitate the opportunity for students to incorporate hands-on pathways such as School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships and VET programs, whilst simultaneously pursuing their VCE certificate.

Our VCE students are backed by their teachers and mentors to challenge themselves to fulfil their potential as they work to succeed in their chosen pathway. They develop the skills, knowledge and habits to make effective decisions, provide leadership to their cohort and ultimately flourish post-school.

Applied Learning Pathways
Cobram AGS aims to provide an inspiring and engaging learning environment where all students thrive, are innovative and aspire to a future defined by their individual passions, interests and skills.
To cater for a diverse group of learners, we offer several educational avenues in the Senior School in which students can actively pursue a vocational pathway. These pathways are designed for students who favour a practical style of learning and enjoy completing hands-on tasks and assessments. These different pathways include:
• VCE Vocational Major
• VCE with VET (Vocational Education and Training)
• VCE with an SBAT (School Based Apprenticeship/ Traineeship)
Successful completion of any of the above pathways will result in a recognised Year 12 completion certificate.
VCE Vocational Major
The VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM) is a vocational and applied learning program within the VCE, designed to be completed over a minimum of two years. The VCE VM gives students greater choice and flexibility to pursue their strengths and interests and develop the skills and capabilities needed to succeed in further education, work and life.
It prepares students to move into apprenticeships, traineeships, further education and training, university (via non-ATAR pathways) or directly into the workforce. Students will develop a broad understanding of workplace environments and the future of work and education, in order to engage in theoretical and practical planning and decisionmaking for a successful transition to their desired pathway.
Students undertaking the VCE VM must include a Vocational Education and Training (VET), as well as one day per week of Structured Workplace Learning. Students must complete a minimum of three other unit 3-4 sequences (not including the VCE VM Literacy or VCE English units' sequence) as part of their program.
School Based Apprenticeships/ Traineeships
Through some fantastic relationships with external providers, we can facilitate opportunities for students to incorporate a School Based Apprenticeship/Traineeship (SBAT) into their studies, whilst still actively pursuing their VCE certificate. Undertaking an SBAT is a fantastic way for students to upskill and boost their employment prospects prior to completing their schooling.
Project Ready
Project Ready is a hands-on life and work readiness program that is currently offered to students in Year Ten. For those who feel like they need help choosing a career path, building self-confidence and gaining skills to successfully transition into the workforce or further training, Project Ready is a great starting place!
Project Ready is a full-year VET program (running for one full day, once per week) that includes a Certificate II in Volunteering, meaning participating students will graduate with recognition for up to two units at 1 and 2 level for VCE.
Students should be aware that Project Ready is not like regular school. The program is run by a facilitator with experience in youth programs and group work. At its core, Project Ready is interactive, fun, engaging and inspiring.
Project Ready helps students to:
• build ‘groupness’: a group space where they feel comfortable to personally develop
• discover their unique skills and strengths so they can plan for their career
• understand possible training and work pathways through a range of career development and industry engagement activities
• build resilience through personal development activities, volunteering and community involvement
• improve their communication skills
• develop work readiness skills, such as the job application process
• source work placement opportunities
Who is Project Ready suitable for?
While the program is suitable for all students, it holds particular benefits for those who are considering pursuing the VCE Vocational Major pathway (VCE VM). The VET component of the program can contribute towards students' unit count within the VCE VM.
It should be noted that completing Project Ready does not lock students into completing the VCE VM – students may still select to complete VCE.
*Project Ready has an additional materials fee of $350 per student. This fee covers the cost of essential resources and materials that students will use throughout the program.
If you have questions relating to any of the applied learning pathways covered above, please contact our Careers Advisor Jade Drew via email at careers@cags.vic.edu.au

Senior School Pathways Program
At Cobram AGS, we endeavour to provide a careers education program that gives every student the opportunity to explore their individual talents and aspirations. Life is a journey that takes us on many different roads, it is not necessarily a straight line.
As a school, our goal is to prepare our students for the ‘real world’ of work. It is now widely acknowledged that while young people need a combination of technical skills and knowledge related to specific areas, their capacity to adapt to change, identify and embrace opportunities, and develop resilience for the inevitable tough times, are skills that are crucial to their future success in a world where rapid change is the only constant.
Our Careers department have developed a career education program that not only meets the challenges of the world, but also ensures students have the skills and knowledge to navigate multiple career pathways. The Program commences at Year Seven and focuses on the following:
Year Seven – I Discover
Year Seven students use a range of activities to discover their strengths and interests to develop a positive selfimage that provides the foundation for optimistic pathway planning. Students build their career action plan on the selfknowledge they have acquired through the activities they have undertaken.
Year Eight - I Explore
Students in Year Eight research a wide range of occupational profiles to examine the nature of the work, the personal attributes and skills necessary to perform the tasks, and the required entry-level education and training. They revisit their annual career action plan and review their career and learning goals in line with their academic achievements.
Year Nine - I Focus
Year Nine students focus on the contribution that personal attributes and effective communication skills make to their future life and work roles. Students also participate in Morrisby Online profiling and have an unpacking interview with Careers Counsellor Jade Drew to help guide their future pathways. Students examine the changes that have taken place in the workplace over a period of time and apply their knowledge to consider the nature of change on their planning for their preferred future. In their career action plan, students apply their knowledge of their personal attributes and reflect on possible future pathways taking into consideration education and training requirements and the impact of change.

Year Ten - I Plan
Year Ten students focus on planning their pathway to achieve broad career goals that offer a range of options. In their career action plan, students identify their preferred future pathway and explore a range of scenarios that will provide optional pathways. Students will participate in work experience to gain exposure to the workforce. Research has proven that work experience is one of the most effective ways to gain insight into specific professions and the nature of work in our culture, which can help young people make decisions about their own future plans. Research also tells us that people who have already worked are more likely to gain further employment.
Year Eleven - I Decide
The focus for Year Eleven students is confirming and managing their career action plan. Students should be able to identify the skills and abilities they have acquired through activities and experiences in school and their community, including paid and unpaid work or volunteering. Year Eleven students should be able to identify the transferability of their skills and abilities to future career choices. Students will participate in a camp to Melbourne/Ballarat to explore what universities and TAFE providers have to offer, as well attend the Victorian VCE and Careers Expo.
Year Twelve - I Apply
Year Twelve students need to be able to critically examine their career goals and have sound knowledge of the requirements for their planned further education, training or employment choices.
Students undertake activities to assist in their Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre and/or Universities Admissions Centre applications. The goal for Cobram AGS is to ensure every student achieves a quality destination post-school. A quality destination is tertiary study, apprenticeships, traineeships, or employment with a long-term future. We provide the resources and opportunities for students to pursue their passions through our Senior School alternative pathways including:
• VET delivered to Secondary Students (VETDSS)
• School Based Apprenticeship/Traineeship (SBAT)
• Structured Workplace Learning (SWL)
Cobram AGS now offers the new VCE Vocational Major for students entering Year Eleven and Twelve.
Students in Year Ten who are considering the VCE Vocational Major will have the opportunity to participate in the Project Ready work readiness program . This will also provide students with a Certificate II in Volunteering.

Camps & Excursions
School camps are an integral part of the learning framework at Cobram AGS as they not only contribute meaningfully to personal development, but also provide many students with treasured memories that will last a lifetime.
Our Camps Program commences from Year Three and is tailored to suit different age groups. School camps provide students with opportunities to acquire essential life skills, emphasising the value of teamwork. Camps can often take students outside their comfort zone which creates a learning environment where resilience and character are developed through adventure and challenge. Importantly, our camps are designed to complement classroom studies.
Our camp locations are thoroughly researched and carefully selected to support students with:
• growing independence from home
• establishing deeper connections with their classmates
• reinforcing classroom learning
• building skills and knowledge that may potentially lead to lifelong involvement in a worthwhile leisure pursuit
• promoting and growing self-esteem, resourcefulness, independence, leadership, judgement, cooperation and tolerance
• developing self-awareness of their relationship to our country
2025 Camp Locations:
• Year 3/4 – Alexandra
• Year 5/6 – Ballarat
• Year 7 – Borambola
• Year 8 – Phillip Island
• Year 9 – Mount Buffalo
• Year 10 – Melbourne
• Year 11 – Melbourne
• Year 12 – Beechworth
Please note that camp locations are subject to change and are highly dependant on availability, costs and suitability.

Essential things to know
All students are required to attend camps as part of their essential learning at Cobram AGS unless they have a medical exemption from their doctor. Please note, we do not offer a refund for non-participation in camps except in cases where a family has applied for a medical exemption and it was subsequently approved by the school.
Our camp fees are adjusted yearly to reflect changes in costs set by the various camp providers. They are published towards the end of the preceding year, and then included as part of the annual school fee invoice which is distributed to families in October.

Excursions/Incursions
In addition to our Camps Program, we also run several excursions and incursions throughout the year for a range of purposes and benefits. Incursions typically relate to topics such as personal safety and personal development, while excursions offer a chance for students to practically engage with content they have been learning about in class. Most year levels (particularly in the lower year levels) will typically do an activity together at the end of the school year to celebrate, such as going to the cinema, the local pool or an entertainment show.

Community Focus
At Cobram AGS, we are committed to regularly engaging with our community in various capacities. This is not only our internal school community, but also the wider local community. We regularly provide access to our school through a variety of social events such as our Welcome Evening, Mother’s and Father’s Day Breakfasts, Parent Coffee Mornings, Grandparents Day and End of Year Celebration which includes a student talent show, Christmas carols and dinner, to name some examples.
We consider regularly bringing our school community together as paramount to creating an inclusive environment where people feel connected and experience a sense of belonging. Parents looking to get involved in the planning of school events and fundraisers also have the opportunity to join our Parents and Friends Group.
In addition to the significant school events we facilitate throughout the year, our students and staff also engage in various community events. We have a strong affiliation with the Cobram-Barooga RSL Sub-Branch, and also regularly engage with Cobram Community House, Cobram Lions Club, the Rotary Club of Cobram, Moira Shire Council, NCN Health, Dutch Thunder Wildlife Rescue Shelter and many more.
We also support several charitable organisations throughout the year such as the Cancer Council with our Biggest Morning Tea event, while locally, we hold a Winter Appeal each year that involves collecting food items for the homeless in our community, which are then distributed by Moira Food Share. Students also work together in their house groups during the year to raise awareness for a local not-for-profit organisation or community group.
We are also passionate about promoting important community health initiatives such as R U OK Day and Moira Live4Life, and are strong advocates for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander reconciliation.
Serving others and contributing to our local community is an essential part of being a student at Cobram AGS. Helping to mould kind, caring and compassionate young citizens through the values we champion is one of our most important objectives as a school.

School Communications
The Crier
The Crier is our major school newsletter and is published at the end of each term. It shines a light on the most significant moments that occurred during the term and showcases outstanding achievements from within our school community. The newsletter is published on our school website so please check there if you would like to catch up on the major news from each school term.
What's On
In addition to The Crier, we also distribute our semi-regular What’s On newsletter which forecasts the week ahead and recaps the week that has been.

School Reports
Cobram AGS publishes online school reports via SEQTA Engage. End of term interim summary reports are provided in Term One and Term Three, while full school reports are provided at the end of Term Two and Term Four.
Parent Teacher Interviews
The school schedules Parent Teacher Interviews bi-annually following interim reports. We recommend that families utilise our online booking system to meet with educators and staff face to face. We also encourage parents to contact class teachers or Heads of School throughout the year if they have any queries or concerns, or would simply like to check on the progress of their child/children.

Our school website www.cags.vic.edu.au is also a valuable communication tool where families can view the school calendar, download notes and permission slips for excursions and extracurricular activities, and find important links to school news and updates from the Principal.
