Acknowledgement of Country
Cobram Anglican Grammar School is honoured to be on the ancestral lands of the Yorta Yorta people. Lands that were taken, not ceded. We give thanks for the custodianship of the traditional owners and we pay our respects to their Elders past and present, and we extend our recognition to their descendants who walk these lands today.
From river to ocean, from campfire to hearth, may the First Peoples who have cared for this land be blessed.
From breath to song, from step to dance, may those who follow the songlines guide us on the journey of living honourably in this place.
From greeting to Amen, from silence to chorus, may our worship join with the voices of the First Peoples of this land.

Welcome To Our School Community
We are delighted to welcome your child and family to Cobram Anglican Grammar School (Cobram AGS) This handbook contains important general information about our school and provides an overview of the key procedures that ensure our daily operations run smoothly, creating a positive learning environment for all.

Parent Request Policy
Policy
The process that Cobram AGS works through to plan each student’s class placement and classroom teacher begins months before the end of the school year We understand that in certain situations, parents and carers may like to request that their child be placed with a particular friend or in a particular class.
Requests for Placement With Friends
Cobram AGS recognises the importance of fostering and maintaining friendship groups We also understand that it is equally important for students to mix and learn with peers who have different interests.
If you would like to request that your child be placed in a class with a particular friend or friends, please ensure that you make this request within the first four weeks of Term 4 of the year prior so that we can consider your request in organising our classes for the following year.
Requests for class placements must be made in writing, outlining who you would like your child to be placed with and why Requests can be addressed to the Head of Junior School, Fiona Clark Please be aware that we will not always be able to accommodate class placement requests, but will endeavour to consider your wishes where possible
Class teachers ask students to nominate a few friends who they would like to be with the following year. We ensure students have at least one friend from their list when forming classes
Requests for Placement With Certain Teachers
All teachers at Cobram AGS are caring and committed educators and our school collectively strives to ensure that all students are provided with a high-quality education. Whilst we certainly appreciate that you may think it would be in your child’s best interests to be placed in a class with a particular teacher, we are generally unable to accommodate these requests
Our school’s leadership team has an in-depth understanding of each teacher’s strengths and will always endeavour to place our students with teachers who are best placed to suit their learning needs. We do not re-allocate students to different classes during the school year unless exceptional circumstances arise. Parents will be advised if this type of situation arises

Senior School Pathways
“At Cobram AGS, we endeavour to provide a careers education program that gives every student the opportunity to explore their individual talents and aspirations We have developed a career education program that not only meets the challenges of the world, but also ensures students have the skills and knowledge to navigate multiple career pathways ”
– Jade Drew, Careers Advisor
Year 7 – I Discover
Year 7 students use a range of activities to discover their strengths and interests to develop a positive self-image that provides the foundation for optimistic pathway planning Students build their career action plan on the self-knowledge they have acquired through the activities they have undertaken.
Year 8 – I Explore
Students in Year 8 research a wide range of occupational profiles to examine the nature of the work, the personal attributes and skills necessary to perform the tasks, and the required entry-level education and training. They revisit their annual career action plan and review their career and learning goals in line with their academic achievements.
Year 9 – I Focus
Year 9 students focus on the contribution that personal attributes and effective communication skills make to their future life and work roles. Students also participate in Morrisby Online profiling and have an unpacking interview with our Careers Advisor Jade Drew to help guide their future pathways In their career action plan, students apply their knowledge of their personal attributes and reflect on possible future pathways.
Year 10 – I Plan
Year 10 students focus on planning their pathway to achieve broad career goals that offer a range of options. In their career action plan, students identify their preferred future pathway and explore a range of scenarios that will provide optional pathways Students will participate in work experience to gain exposure to the workforce.

Year 11 – I Decide
The focus for Year 11 students is confirming and managing their career action plan. Students should be able to identify the skills and abilities they have acquired through activities and experiences in school and their community, including paid and unpaid work or volunteering. Year 11 students should be able to identify the transferability of their skills and abilities to future career choices. Students will participate in a camp to Melbourne to explore what universities and TAFE/training providers have to offer, and attend the Victorian VCE and Careers Expo
Year 12 – I Apply
Year 12 students need to be able to critically examine their career goals and have sound knowledge of the requirements for their planned further education, training or employment choices. Students undertake activities to assist in their Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre and/or Universities Admissions Centre applications The goal for Cobram AGS is to ensure every student achieves a quality destination post-school.
We define a quality destination as: Tertiary Study
Apprenticeship or Traineeship
Employment with a long-term future
We provide the resources and opportunities for students to pursue their passions through our Senior School alternative pathways including:
• The VCE Vocational Major
• School Based Apprenticeship/Traineeship (SBAT)
• Structured Workplace Learning (SWL).
Cobram AGS offers the VCE Vocational Major to students in Years 11 and 12 Students in Year 10 who are considering the VCE Vocational Major pathway will have the opportunity to participate in the Project Ready work readiness program. This will also provide students with a Certificate II in Active Volunteering

Emergency Procedures and First Aid
Emergency Protocol
In the event of any emergency in the classroom or out in the yard, students are urged to promptly inform the nearest staff member Accordingly, should the circumstances warrant, the Emergency Management Plan will be activated Should the need for school evacuation arise, clear instructions will be communicated through the public address system. It is imperative that students adhere to the evacuation guidelines and gather swiftly and calmly at the designated assembly point on the school oval. Students should remain under the guidance of their classroom/homeroom teacher until instructed otherwise. Families will be contacted via text message if there is an immediate concern To ensure students are familiar with our Emergency Management Plans, we routinely practice both lock down and evacuation drills throughout the year Families will be notified in advance when a practice drill is set to take place
First Aid and Medications
If a student is unwell, they should inform their classroom teacher who will subsequently direct the student to the office for further assistance In cases of feeling unwell while in the yard, students should initially approach a yard duty teacher who will assess the situation and escort the student to the office for care if necessary. Parents/guardians will receive immediate notification from the school regarding significant injuries or complaints concerning their child. Minor concerns will be communicated by their classroom teacher through the SEQTA Engage app. If your child needs to take a regular form of medication at school, this can be facilitated but you will be required to complete a form which can be obtained at the school office
Student Attendance
How to Notify the School About Your Child’s Attendance
It is important that parents and guardians notify the school if your child/children are going to be late to school, need to leave school early, e g for an appointment, or are going to be absent from school This helps us maintain accurate attendance records There are two ways this can be done:
1) Complete the Student Absence Form: This can be located in the SEQTA Engage app under ‘Absences’ in the navigation menu. Please note that this function only enables you to complete an absence for one student at a time. If you have multiple children who are absent, you will need to repeat the process for each child This form provides a range of attendance options for you to choose from including absence, late arrival, early departure or medical appointment
2) Phone the School: If you would prefer to phone the school regarding your child’s attendance, you are most welcome to do so on (03) 5871 1816.
Office Notification Form
We understand that plans often change, so if there has been a change of plan for how your student needs to get home, e.g. catch the bus instead of being picked up, walk home instead of get the bus etc., we kindly ask that you complete our Office Notification Form in the SEQTA Engage app which can be found under ‘Pages’ in the navigation menu This form also allows you to notify us about other things such as Skillzone Sports attendance, lost property/missing items, or that your child will be out of school uniform
Other Important Things to Be Mindful Of:
The school opens to receive students daily at 8.30am. Please note, staff are not available to provide supervision before this time
Students may ride a bicycle or scooter to school but they must wear an appropriate helmet and obey all road rules They are also required to bring a lockable chain to secure their bicycle to the school bicycle racks.
Under no circumstances is a student permitted to leave the school grounds without parent/guardian permission.
School Pick Up and Drop Off
Parent Drop Off and Pick Up
Parent drop off and pick up takes place in the driveway area on the southern aspect of the school.
Parents and guardians need to enter the school from Campbell Road and use the parking spaces that have been established on the southern side of the school We ask that speed limits are kept to 10km/h Ple an

The entry point to the parent/guardian car park is marked with a yellow arrow, while the designated car parking areas are marked in red. There are both angled and parallel parking options. Families and guardians must drive up to the end of the driveway and perform a U-turn at the designated turning point, marked in blue It is not safe or prohibited to perform a U-turn at any other section in the driveway
Things to Be Mindful Of At Pick Up and Drop Off Times:
Families and guardians should be aware of the ‘ no standing’ and 40km/h zones along Campbell Road during designated times.
Students should not be dropped at the front of the school as there is no safe pedestrian access into the school from this point. Also, school buses are commonly moving in and around this area at peak times. If parents or guardians need to come into the school office during these busy times, we kindly ask that you please park in the designated parent car park and walk over to the office.
Buses
Please note that the drop off and pick up points for bus travellers is inside the front ‘D’ entrance to the school (marked in pink) as it comes off Campbell Road. Buses will enter from the northern end of the ‘D’ and exit via the southern end.
Buses
In addition to the Public Transport Victoria (PTV) and New South Wales Transport school buses, Cobram AGS operates daily private bus travel for students from Numurkah, Nathalia and Yarrawonga. The cost of this service is dependent on family eligibility for transport conveyance Families not eligible for the transport conveyance will be charged a full fee per student, which can be in excess of $3,000 The annual conveyance recipient bus levy per child is $685 Inc. GST.

Bus Passes
To make changes to their regular bus travel arrangements, students must notify the office and obtain a bus pass by 1pm Alterations to normal bus travel arrangements will only be approved by the school if we have written or verbal consent from a parent/guardian before 1pm
Mobile Phones
We have a strict mobile phone policy at Cobram AGS
Mobile phones are not to be used: during school hours (except in cases of real emergencies)
to contact anyone during school hours for the purpose of requesting collection from the school Students must present to the school office if they are feeling unwell and need to go home.
to send messages (text, photographic, or voice) to other students during school hours
The use of mobile phone cameras is also strictly prohibited at school unless students are instructed otherwise by their classroom teacher, e.g. for Media Studies.
Mobile phones will only be allowed at school if it is accepted by parents/guardians and students that the school reserves the right to: examine the contents of any mobile phone to ensure that it has not been used inappropriately confiscate any mobile phone that has been used inappropriately
If confiscated, mobile phones will be handed to the school office The owner of the phone is not permitted to reclaim the device until the end of the school day If this behaviour is repeated, the student and their family will be required to meet with the relevant Head of School to discuss further action
School Uniform
Uniform Expectation
The school uniform is to be worn appropriately at all times. It is expected that all students wear it with pride and respect as the uniform visibly projects the school's image and culture out into the community. If your child is going to be out of uniform, we kindly request that you notify their classroom/homeroom teacher by messaging them on the SEQTA Engage app Alternatively, you can also complete the Office Notification Form which is located under ‘pages’ in the SEQTA Engage menu
Purchasing Uniform Items
Cobram AGS uniform items are available to purchase through Worklocker. Scan the QR code to view the most up-to-date uniform price list

Uniform 'Pop Up' Shops
Worklocker can be contacted via:
Phone: (03) 5872 1221
Address: 8 Main Street, Cobram VIC 3644
Our Parents and Friends (P&F) also coordinate 'pop up' uniform shops throughout the school year These shops present a great opportunity for our school community to purchase second-hand uniform items at heavily discounted prices.

Uniform Overview

The prescribed school uniform is gender neutral where possible Students may choose to wear either the summer or winter uniform throughout the year. These items are not to be mixed.
The academic uniform and sport uniform are separate uniforms and are not be worn together, with the exception of the soft shell jacket The sports uniform should be worn on days when your child is timetabled to have Physical Education (PE) and for all school sport days, e g Cross Country Students are asked to wear their sneakers/runners with their PE uniform
Hats
The navy wide brimmed hat must be worn outside during recess, lunch time and all sporting activities in Term 1 and Term 4 The school policy is ‘ no hat, no play’ Please note that this policy will be strictly enforced to ensure students are adequately protected from the sun in the warmer months
Lost Property
We strongly recommend that all student uniform items and personal belongings are clearly labelled with the owner's full name If your child has lost or misplaced a uniform item or personal belonging, please contact the school as promptly as possible Alternatively, you can complete the Office Notification Form on SEQTA Engage.
16 School Canteen
We have a school canteen which is open from Tuesday to Friday each week at lunch time only (closed Mondays). All orders are freshly made and delivered by Hungie Fangs Artisan Bakery in Cobram.
Parents must use an online ordering app called ‘My School Connect’ to place an order for their child/children Please be mindful that the cut off time for placing a lunch order is 8:30am on the day you would like to order Another important thing to note about the canteen is that while students in Years 7 to 12 are able to purchase items at the canteen window at lunch time using cash, Junior School students use a token system, meaning their orders must be placed online. This helps to ensure the canteen runs efficiently each day. Students are kindly asked not to bring a large amount of cash to use at the canteen.

Anglican Identity
Our Anglican Identity sits at the centre of all we do. Fundamentally, our Anglican Identity means we are a school accepting of all people, from all faiths, of no faiths, and from different cultures. Through our Anglican Identity, we celebrate diversity, and provide a sense of belonging for all students.
Our students study Anglican values as well as other faiths in Religious and Values Education (RAVE) classes as part of the core curriculum in both the Junior School and Senior School It is a school requirement that our students participate in these classes.
As a faith-based school, it is imperative that we continue to maintain a strong connection with the Anglican Diocese of Wangaratta and the Anglican Parish of Cobram Father Victor Adams oversees Chapel Services each week in our Performing Arts Centre, rotating between the Junior School and Senior School. The prayer and worship exercised during these Chapel Services helps us communicate what it means to be a student at an Anglican school.

Homework
Homework is an important aspect of a student's academic work and proves highly effective in helping students understand material covered in class and develop a deeper comprehension of the topics being studied. Students who establish a regular pattern of homework study are usually more capable of coping with their academic demands.
Suggestions for Home Study
Students should:
start by dividing their time into 20-30 minute sections, with brief breaks between them to enhance concentration
prioritise completing the most urgent tasks first allocate 4-5 days for test revision, focusing on smaller sections each day
avoid leaving all the studying for the night before mark off completed homework as they go
record unfinished tasks as homework for the next evening
review the week's coursework and prepare a plan for the upcoming week.
