Today is the first game of Phase 2, and we extend a warm welcome to Tony Pennock and his Haverfordwest team to The Oval.
Unlike previous years, Town will be playing in the Play -off Conference rather than the Championship Conference. It is certainly not a position we were aiming for at the beginning of the 22/23 season, but for the next ten games we will be battling it out with Haverfordwest, Fflint, Aberystwyth, Pontypridd and Airbus for a) survival in the Cymru Premier League and b) for the coveted play-off position. What we are, in effect faced with, is 10 ‘cup tie’ games until the end of the season. At the start of this Phase, Haverfordwest are currently top of the League with 2 more points than Caernarfon, but with only 7 points between 1st and 5th positions, I’m sure there will be quite a few ‘twists and turns’ in the positions over the next few weeks.
As we all know Town had a very poor run of results towards the end of Phase 1, for which being the Manager I take full responsibility, and realise that this is not what is expected of a Caernarfon Town team. I do think though it’s vitally important not to forget that there were also some high points, and some examples of real passion and good play from the players. Moving on to Phase 2 these are what we must build on. We have all had time to reflect and air our views - players, staff, Board and fans –now we need to re-group, stick together and focus as #UnClwb #OneClub on the next vitally important ten games. Everyone associated with Caernarfon Town in whatever capacity wants the best for the Club!
We will be going into this Second Phase with a positive mindset, training has gone really well, and although we didn’t manage to get all the signings we wanted during the transfer period we do have a very talented squad of players who are all raring to go.
Deg gêm hynod bwysig yn ein gwynebu yn yr wsnosau nesa’ gan ddechrau pnawn ‘ma yn erbyn Hwlffordd. Mae pawb ohonom, hyfforddwyr a chwaraewyr, yn barod am y sialens ac yn gobeithio wir y medrwn roi rhywbeth i chi, y Cofi Army, i’w ddathlu unwaith eto.Diolch am eich cefnogaeth.
C’mon y Dre!
Huw #UnClwb
Ar ôl bod ar rediad gwael o ganlyniadau, a arweiniodd at golled siomedig yn Aberystwyth, mae’r toriad diweddar o dair wythnoswedi rhoi amser i Huw, ei dîm rheoli a’r garfan weithiogyda’i gilydd i ddatrys yr hyn sydd wedi bod yn myndo’i le. Mae'r pedwar chwaraewr newydd nath arwyddo i ni ym mis Ionawr yn sicr wedi adfywio pethau ac mae'r garfan wedi hyfforddi'n galeddros y tair wythnos diwethaf. Fel y dywedodd Huw mewn cyfweliad diweddar i’r clwb, mae’n teimlo bod yr egwyl wedi bod yn dda i’r garfan, ond bydd canlyniadau’n profi a yw’n iawn. Mae un peth sy'n sicr, mae'r bechgyn yn barod ar gyfer yr ail gyfnodacynmyndamdanii orffenyn y safle 'play-off!'
Havingbeenon apoor runof results, which culminated in a disappointing defeat at Aberystwyth, the recent threeweek break hasgiven Huw,his management team and the squad time to work togetherto ironoutwhat hasbeen goingwrong. The fournew signings in January have certainly heped freshen things up and the squadhastrainedhardover the past threeweeks. AsHuwsaidin arecent interview for the club, he feels the break has been good for the squad, but results will prove if he is right. One thing'sforsure, the boys are up for the second phase and will be going all out to finish in that play-off spot!

Match Report
Aberystwyth 2 1 CAERNARFON 21.1.2023
Caernarfon’swoescontinuedlastnightastheylosttoAberystwyth by two goals to one.
The Cofis have been on a very poor run of results since late November and, havingwontheirlastouting,a 3-0 victory over Airbus, hopeswere high thatthe team may have turneda corner.
Unfortunately, the frustrations of recent weeks returned as Huw Griffith’s men failed to get going against the Seasiders at Park Avenue, andtheyfailedto get the result theywere lookingfor.
The match did notstart well forthevisitors, as DannyGossetwas the recipientof alate tackle inthefirst minuteand, despite trying to shake the knock off, he was forced to leave the action in the sixteenth minute.By then,Aberystwyth were already ahead, after Arnison took advantageof Caernarfon’sinabilitytoclear alongthrow intotheirbox in the eighth minute, pouncingon the ball andfinishing past Tibbetts from close range.
Cofiscaptain Noah Edwards forced Aber keeper Turner into a smart save in the twenty first minuteafter he got on the end of a Joe Faux cross from theright, butthestopper didwell to get hishandtotheball to divert it for a corner. Rob Hughescreated a good opportunity for himself ten minuteslater after hebeat hismarker on the way into the box, buthe screwed hiseffort wideof thetarget from fifteen yards.
Town’s best opportunityof the half fell to Darren Thomas who found himself one on one with Turner but the keeper flew off his line and gathered theball at thestriker’s feet in the box. The hosts bossed the opening minutes of the second period and could, and probably should, have been at least a further goal ahead as they went close on three occasions in quick succession early doors. Tibbetts puled off two excellent saves to deny Lewis and Evans, whilst the latter should have scored after meeting a John Owen cross at thefront post.
Caernarfon substitute Rhys Alun Williams was proving a livewire up front for hisnew club, but his team mates were not making the most of his runs, and indeed Town were finding it difficult to enjoy much possession, although JoeFauxwaslookingincreasinglydangerouson Town’s left flank. Unfortunately for the Cofis, Faux was sent off for a second yellow card offence in the seventy sixth minute as a free kick headedgoalwardsstruck hisarm, andfrom theresultingfreekick, Niall Flintfoundthecornerof thenet with a low andwell placedeffort.
Rhys Alun Williams halved the deficit in the eighty ninth minutewhen helatchedontoa longball and, with Turneroff hisline, thestriker found the net with an excellentfinish fromjust outside of the penalty area. It was though a case of too little, too late, as the whistled soon blew on anotherdefeat for the visitors.
So, another frustrating evening for Caernarfon, who could not quite manage to get going against the Seasiders and whilst they remain seventhintheCymru PremierLeague, theCofiArmy willhopethat their team can get out of its current funkas soon as possibleandgive them somethingto cheer about.

Airbus 0 – 3 Caernarfon. 10th January 2023
Caernarfon finallyendedawretched run of results with a hard fought but ultimately comfortable victory over Airbuslast night.
TheCofishadlost sixsuccessivematchesheading to theHollingsworth GroupStadiumandknew that thethree pointswas imperative if they are to make a genuine attempt at finishing the season in the fourth play-off spot.
The eveningcould not have started better for the visitors who went ahead in the second minute, as a result of former Town favouriteGareth Edwards bringing Rob Hughes down in the area, and Hughes dusted himself off to put his side ahead from the spot.
The action was endto end stuff and Josh Tibbetts came to Caernarfon’s rescue twice in quick successionasfirstAdamDaviesandthenLeblancAkpo threatened.
At the other end, Lewis Dutton rushedoff his line to deny DannyGosset, whohadbeen put through by Joe Faux but the home stopper was given no chance by Faux in the twenty first minute after Noah Edwards had slipped the ball through two defenders to the flying winger, who finished well from six yards.
Caernarfon appealed for a second penalty two minutes later as Darren Thomas’s close-range effort seemed to hit a defender’sarm, but referee DavidMorgan wasnot convincedandwavedaway anyappeals. Thehosts hadtheballin theCofisnet in the twenty seventh minutefollowinga melee in the Caernarfon area but Mr Morgan had seen an infringementandtheeffortwas ruledout.
MATCH REPORT
Dutton kept his side within touchingdistancewith saves from Edwards and Faux and whilst the Wingmakers threatenedon the break, it seemed a matter of time before Huw Griffith’s men would extend theirlead.
The third goal arrived a minute after the break as Darren Thomas won the ball off a defender and, seeing Dutton off his line, the Cofi Messi lobbed him superbly to put his side into an unassailable lead.
Further efforts from Thomas, Rhys Alun Williams and Joe Faux all failed to hit the target as the visitors kept their grip on the match and created plentyof opportunitiesto add a four.
Tibbets produced a stunning full length save to denyElliottOrton’s powerfulloweffortand, despite continuing to boss the action, the Cofis had to settle for a 3-0 victory.
Town manager Huw Griffiths will have been pleased with the victory and especially the performances of his two recent additions to the squad. Both debutants, Cai Powell-Roberts and Rhys Alun Williamsseemed to settle into the side quickly and began their time at Caernarfon with very encouragingperformances.

Roeddem yn falch iawn o gyhoeddi mai Rhys Alun Williams oedd ein hail chwaraewr newydd o’r ffenestr drosglwyddo.
Mae’r ymosodwr, sy’n galluchwarae yn unrhyw un o’r pedwar safle blaen, wedi mwynhau tri thymor llwyddiannus gyda Phorthmadog ac fe fydd yn opsiwn gwych i Huw Griffiths wrth iddo geisio newid ffurf ddiweddar y tîm. Ar ôl bod yn ymwelydd cyson â’r Oval yn ystod y blynyddoedd diwethaf fel gwyliwr, mae Rhys yn gyffrous am y posibilrwydd o wisgo’r crys melyn:
“Dw i wrth fy modd i fod yma. Rydw i wedi bod yma’n rheolaidd ers nifer o flynyddoedd a’r gêm gyntaf i mi ddod i’w gwylio oedd y gêm Cwpan Cymru pan ddaeth ywal tu ôl i’r gôl i lawr. Roeddwn i’n un ar bymtheg ar y pryd a phan wyt ti yr oedran yna, y cyfan rwyt ti eisiau ei wneud yw gobeithio y byddi di’n gallu chwarae yn yr un tîm â DarrenThomas a dyma fi! Dwi methu aros i chwarae o flaeny cefnogwyr!”
MaeHuw Griffithsyn gyffrous amyposibilrwydd o gaeltalentleol aralliweithio gyda: “Mae Rhys yn chwaraewr arall lleol cyffrous i ni ac rydw i wrth fy modd ei gael yn ymuno â’r garfan. Rwy’n edrych ymlaen at weithio gydag ef.”
CROSO IR OVAL Rhys Alun
We were delighted to add Rhys Alun Williams as our second capture of the transfer window. The striker, who canplayin any of the front four positions, has enjoyed a successful three seasons with Porthmadog and will be an excellent option for Huw Griffiths as he looks to turn the team’s recent form around. Having been a regular visitor to the Ovalin recent years as a spectator, Rhys is excited at the prospect of putting on the yellow shirt: “I’m over the moon to be here. I’ve been a regular here for a number of years and the firstmatchI cametowatch was the Welsh Cuptie when the wall behind the goal came down. I was sixteen at the time and when you’re that age all you want to do is hope that you can play in the same team as Darren Thomas and here I am! I can’t wait to play in front of the supporters!”
Huw Griffiths is excited at the prospect of having another local talent to work with:
“Rhys is exciting local signing for us and I am delighted to have him joining the squad. I’m looking forward to working with him.”

CAERNARFON TOWN FC PEN PICS 2022/23
1 – Josh Tibbetts (Goalkeeper)
Josh first signed for the Canaries during the Summer of 2020 from Bala Town. His 19 appearances for Bala last season enhanced his reputation for being one of the best young goalkeepers in the Cymru Premier. Previous clubs include Birmingham City Academy, Peterborough, Royston Town, Solihull Moors, Southport, and Grimsby Town Reserves. Suffered a serious injury during season 2020/21 and re-signed for the Canaries in July 2022.
4 - Gruffydd John (Defender)
Signed by the Canaries from CPD Porthmadog during the Summer of 2019. Very talented young central defender who will be a valuable addition to the squad. Previously played for Llanrug United in the Welsh Alliance and was also a Welsh Schools international. Played a pivotal role in Town’s defence last season and is certain to feature regularly this season.
2 – Iwan Cartwright (Defender)
Iwan signed for the Canaries during the summer of 2021 from Cefn Druids AFC. His previous clubs include Newtown AFC, Nuneaton, Wrexham and Hednesford. Established himself as a regular in the starting 11 last season.
5 – Laurie Bell (Defender)
Laurie spent his early football career as a youngster in the Manchester City Academy before taking up a youth team apprenticeship at Rochdale at age 16. Whilst at university in the USA he played for a number of different clubs and was named the Horizon League’s player of the season in 2013. Laurie then spent time in Sweden, playing for Karlslunds IF HKF, BK Forward and signed for the Canaries from Orebro Syrianska in 2021.
17 - Ryan Williams (Midfield)
Locally based Ryan joined the Canaries in 2017 from Wrexham where he starred as a member of the U18s squad. An excellent campaigner in midfield who has also filled in at centre-half on many occasions.
