CTFC v Airbus UK Broughton - JD Cymru Premier Playoff Conference - 30-03-23

Page 1

So tonight we face Airbus who will have a couple of familiar faces in their side with Gaz Edwards (although suspended ) and Jamie Crowther retuning to the Oval. Having watched some of Airbus games in the second phase I think they have been extremely unlucky not to pick any points so we are in for a difficult night ahead. I was really happy with the performance last week against a very good H’west side who have a great home record. We fully deserved to get something out of the game and showed a lot of character and heart to come from behind twice. I asked the lads to give everything and I thought they certainly did that. Hopefully that point with prove to be an important one come end of the season and give us confidence going into tonight’s game. I’m excited to return to the Oval to what will be my first home game as Manager. We have done our preparation and the lads have trained well in the week. Every game is an opportunity to get three points and this will be no different. I feel we have to take full advantage of being home and capitalise on that. I would like to welcome Mark Orme as part of the management team. Mark will bring a wealth of experience and knowledge having worked at many clubs over his career and is a well respected figure within Welsh Football. Knowing Mark Personally, he has a great work ethic and we also share the same values. I look forward to working with him. Croeso ir Oval Mark. I would like to thank Huw for the 3 years I worked with him and the success we had together. He has been a great mentor for me and will certainly be keeping in touch. Diolch am bob dim Huw a Pob lwc yn y dyfodol. I would also like to give Pixie a mention and thank him for his time with the club as we wish both all the best in the future and I’m sure it won’t be long before we see them back in a dugout. I would like to finish by asking the fans to get behind the team. The Oval can be special on a Friday night under the lights and I feel they can be the 12th man and the players can feed off their energy. I’ve been lucky enough to witness the Oval at its best with a great Atmosphere and we need to get it back to that. Hopefully we can give them a performance to be proud of and take the important 3 points.

Diolch

Match Report Caernarfon 0 1 ABERYSTWYTH 17.3.2023

Caernarfon suffered a setback to their hopes of a play-off spot on Friday as they lost to Aberystwyth at the Oval.

The match was typical of the Cofis’ up and down season, as their recent good run of results has been followed with defeats against two of the league’s bottom three sides in seven days.

The home side started brightly although it took until the tenth minute for them to get a sight of the Aber goal, after Sion Bradley jinked his way to the by-line and looked for Rhys Alun Williams with his delivery, but Matthew Turned did well to get to the cross and clear his lines. Bradley put Williams through on goal just four minutes later but the recent signing from Porthmadog failed to find the target from twelve yards. Caernarfon were pinning the visitors back in their own half at this stage and an eighteenth minute Bradley corner was only half cleared to Powell Roberts, who dinked the ball back into the box, where it landed at the feet of Laurie Bell, whose first time effort flew high and wide. The hosts were awarded another corner a minute later and this time the ball was cleared to Danny Gosset on the edge of the areas, and the midfielder controlled it with his chest before hitting an effort that flew inches wide of the left hand upright with Turner stranded on his line. There was another opportunity to go ahead on the half hour mark after Joe Faux beat his man on the left flank before cutting inside and into the box,

but he hit his low effort directly at Turner.

The batch of missed opportunities would soon come back to haunt the hosts as Aberystwyth went ahead during a rare foray upfield, after Flint did well to create space for himself just inside the box and managed to find the bottom left corner of Josh Tibbetts’ net.

The goal darkened the mood amongst the home supporters, who saw their team fail to respond during a second half that started badly and got worse! The visitors were dominating possession when Laurie Bell showed his frustration in the fifty fourth minute as he reacted poorly to a foul by Flint, and although there was no connection, a feigned clash of heads was enough to see the Town centre half given his marching orders.

It is fair to say that the visitors saw out the reminder of the match in comfortable fashion as Caernarfon failed to find their way back and, as the final whistle approached there was a chorus of boos amongst a section of the home crowd.

The poor result, and performance, sees the Cofis in a relegation fight and ultimately cost Huw Griffiths his job, as the club announced his departure less than twenty four hours later.

March is the time that we complete our application for the FAW’S Domestic Licence and, as always, it’s pretty stressful! We won’t go into all the ins and outs of the work that need to be done but safe to say there are always lots of documentation to complete and, asalways, one ortwothingscropupthat we needtocomplete workonbefore the application deadline of March 31st . One of the areas we neededtowork on this time around was the floodlights, where we needed to replace five bulbs that had stopped working. Thankfully, we have a friend of the club who specialises in this and we are grateful that Carwyn managed to find time to replace the bulbs last Saturday. Thank you Carwyn!

Tim merched y clwb

Rydym yn falch iawn o'r ffordd y mae pethau'n mynd gyda'n tîm merched. Fel y soniasom mewn rhaglen diwrnod gêm o gynharach yn y tymor, fe wnaethom gyflwyno tîm merchednewydd i gynrychioli’r clwb yr haf diwethaf fel ffordd o roi cyfle i ferched yn ardal chwarae pêl-droed mewn awyrgylch croesawgar a chyfeillgar, heb ddim pwysau arnynt i sicrhau buddugoliaethau. Mae'r cyfrifoldeb ar fwynhad, ac rydym yn falch o weld bod y tîm wedi chwarae ei holl gemau hyd at hyn y tymor hwn ac, o ystyried adroddiadau gan newyddiadurwyr lleol a rheolwyr thimau eraill, mae'r chwaraewyr yn sicr yn datblygu eu sgiliau pêl-droed. Dymunwn ddiolch i bawb sy’n noddi’r chwaraewyr a’r tîm, gan gynnwys y noddwyr cit,Gofal Bro,a Roberts o Bortdinorwig, sydd wedi noddi’r tracwisgoedd.

We are really pleased with the way things are going with our ladies team. As we mentioned in a match day programme from earlier in the season, we introduced a new ladies team to represent the club last summer as a way of giving ladies in the Caernarfon area an opportunity to play football in a welcoming and friendly environment, with no pressure on them to secure victories. The onus has been on enjoyment, and we are pleased to see that the team has played all its matches thys far this season and, judging from report from local journalists and opposing teams, the adies are certainly developing their footballing skills. We wish to thank everyone who sponsors the playersand the team, including kit sponsors Gofal Bro and Roberts of Portdinorwig, who have sponsored the tracksuits.

CYFNOD DIDDOROL OND ANODD INTERESTING BUT DIFFICULT TIMES

Mae wedi bod yn amser diddorol i ni fel clwb yn ddiweddar a dwi’n meddwl bod angen i mi fynd i’r afael â’r prif destun sgwrs yn ddiweddar, sef sefyllfa’r rheolwr.

Fe wyddoch yn barod fod y clwb wedi gwahanu gyda Huw Griffiths y diwrnod yn dilyn ein colled gartref yn erbyn Aberystwyth ar nos Wener, Mawrth 17eg. Rwy’n siŵr y gallwch ddychmygu ei fod yn benderfyniad anhygoel o anodd i’w wneud, aco safbwynt personol, roedd hefyd yn un emosiynol gan fy mod wedi meithrin perthynas dda iawn gyda Huw yn ystod ei dair blynedd gyda ni. Mae'n ddyn da, a oedd yn falch o fod yn rheolwr i ni ac a oedd mor angerddol ag unrhyw gefnogwr i ni wneud yn dda.

Fel cadeirydd gallaf ddweud yn ddiogel mai ef yw'r rheolwr yr wyf wedi cael y berthynas waith orau ag efyn y clwb. Gwn mor siomedig ydoedd ein bod wedi methu cyrraedd Ewrop yn ei amser gyda ni ond yr hyn na ellir ei amau yw ei orchestion tra yn yr Oval. Dau orffeniad yn y chwech uchaf, gan gynnwys

gorffeniad uchaf erioed y tymor diwethaf yn yr haen uchaf o bedwerydd, ac wrth gwrs y fuddugoliaeth derfynol yn y gemau ail gyfle dros y Fflint fis Gorffennaf diwethaf, a fyddai wedi bod yn ddigon ar gyfer antur Ewropeaidd mewn unrhyw dymor arall.

Yn anffodus, oherwydd rhediad siomedig ers mis Tachwedd, ac y ddau berfformiad gwael iawn yn erbyn Pontypridd ac Aberystwyth yn ddiweddar, roedd y Bwrdd yn credu ei bod yn amser i newid pethau.

Roedd y penderfyniad pwy ddylai olynu Huw yn ddigon syml, gyda Richard yr unig enw yn y ffrâm. Mae wedi bod gyda ni ers 2016, ac wedi bod yn gynorthwyydd i ddau reolwr, Sean Eardley a Huw. Mae wedi adeiladu enw rhagorol yn y gêm yn ystod y saith mlynedd diwethaf a theimlwn ei fod yn haeddu ei gyfle wrth y llyw. Dim ond pythefnos yda ni i mewn i’w gyfnod ac felly mae’n ddyddiau cynnar iawn, ond roedd perfformiad yr wythnos ddiwethaf yn Hwlffordd yn galonogol a gyda phedair gêm galed i fynd credwn fod gennym y dyn gorau ar gyfer y swydd. Pob lwc Richard!

Paul, Cadeirydd CPD Tref Caernarfon.

It’s been an interesting time for us as a club and I think I need to address the main topic of conversation recently, that of the manager’s position.

You will already know that the club parted ways with Huw Griffiths the day following our home defeat to Aberystwyth on Friday, March 17th. I am sure you can imagine that it was an incredibly difficult decision to make, and from a personal point of view, it was also an emotional one as I have built a very good relationship with Huw during his three years with us. He is a good man, who was proud of being our manager and was as passionate as any supporter for us to do well. As chairman I can safely say he is the manager I have had the best working relationship with at the club. I know how disappointed he was that we failed to reach Europe in his time with us but what cannot be questioned is his achievements whilst at the Oval. Two top six finishes, including last season’s highest ever finish in the top tier of fourth, and of course that play-off final victory over Flint last July, which would have been enough for a European adventure in any other season.

Unfortunately, due to a disappointing run of form since November, which culminated in two very poor performances against Pontypridd and Aberystwyth, the Board believed it was time to try a different approach.

The decision as to who should succeed Huw was pretty straight forward, with Richard the only name in the frame. He has been with us since 2016, and been assistant to two managers, Sean Eardley and Huw.

He has built an excellent reputation in the game during the last seven years and we feel that he deserves his opportunity at the helm.

We’re just two weeks into his tenure and so it’s very earlydays, but last week’s performance at Haverfordwest was encouraging and with four tough matches to go we believe we have the best man for the job. Good luck Richard!

Paul, Chairman, Caernarfon Town FC.

Match Report

Haverfordwest 2 2 CAERNARFON 25.3.2023

Caernarfon travelled to Haverfordwest on saturday looking to bounce back from two poor performances and claimed a vital point in their battle to stay in the Cymru Premier League.

In his first match in charge, new Town manager Richard Davies found himself without the influential Noah Edwards and with a number of players carrying knocks, but the man charged with turning the team’s fortunes around placed his faith in an attacking line up that ultimately gave him the performance that he was looking for, full of fight and determination.

The Cofis began well and created the first opportunity of the match in the fifth minute, a Ben Wynne throw into the box being punched out by home stopper ZacJones and the ball landing at the feet of Rob Jones, whose effort from twenty yards sailed inches wide of the keeper’s right upright.

The hosts went ahead in the ninth minute courtesy of a good finish from Jack Wilson, who found himself on the right side of Joe Faux to get on the end of a long Jamie Veale delivery into the Caernarfon box.

The lead lasted just two minutes as the Cofis hit back through Gruff John, who was first to a low Dion Donohue corner, and struck from six yards out to level the score.

A last ditch tackle by Oscar Borg on Darren Thomas thwarted the number ten’s chances of giving the visitors the lead two minutes later after being put through by Danny Gosset and for the hosts, Daniel Hawkins should have done better than hit his effort directly towards Josh Tibbetts half way through the half.

The remainder of the first period was pretty even with both sides threatening the scoreboard againjust before the break, Caernarfonthrough Ben Wynne who saw his effort from twenty fiveyards comfortably kept out, whilst Dylan Rees could not find the target from close range after getting on the end of a delivery into the box.

It was the hosts who began the second period strongest, and Jack Wilson went close to restoring their lead in the fifty fourth minute, when he chanced his luck with a decent effort from an acute angle that saw the ball miss the upright by a matter of inches.

Sion Bradley threatened on the hour mark when he gathered a delivery from Gosset, but he could not manage to keep his powerful effort from sailing over the woodwork.

Haverfodwest regained their lead in the seventy first minute after a well worked move, starting with a short corner, eventually saw Wilson deliver the ball across the six yard box, where Kyle Patten was well positioned to strike the ball past Tibbetts.

Caernarfon, however, showed the resilience again as they got back on level terms just three minutes later, although they can thank Jordan Evans for the goal, as he got on the end of a Ben Wynne throw into the box and headed into the roof of his own net.

The Cofis thought they had gone into the lead nine minutes before time when Marsh-Hughes got on the end of a Darren Thomas header and scored from close range but the latter was deemed offside, much to the visitors’ disappointment. Thomas was shown a second yellow card late on which saw Town down to ten men and they faced plenty of pressure in the closing minutes, but their desireto gainsomething fromthe match shone through and they travelled home with a well-deserved point.

The Cofis will be back at the Oval this Friday evening as they face Airbus in Richard Davies’ first home match as manager.
