It seems such a long time ago, far more than just over 2 weeks ago, since our last game, and what a game it was!

Despite the disappointing result, there are lots of positives to take from the game - we certainly matched last year’s champions in all areas, each player gave an excellent individual performance, we played as a team with determination and confidence definitely our best performance to date! Overall we were very unlucky not to have at least gained a point. There were one or two debatable decisions that resulted in frustration from players of both teams. We need to learn and move on now from this experience, curb any frustrations, concentrate fully on the game for 90 minutes and repeat the quality of performance that we produced against Connah’s Quay.

Despite the very ‘stop-start’ period of actual matches Town have experienced with the lock-down and a postponed game, training has gone very well over the past fortnight. Our opponents this weekend are Haverfordwest, who as we saw on Sgorio, produced some excellent performances against two of the top teams. Our last encounter against them ended as a draw, their equaliser coming very late in the game. I’m sure that this weekend’s game will be a close one again, but as I said previously if we replicate our Connah’s Quay performance and concentrate fully till the final whistle I’m hopeful of returning to winning ways. Your continued ‘superb’ support will of course play a big part too!

The EFA have made some much welcomed decisions about fan attendances at games, lets hope that the FAW see sense and follow suit! The lads and management team can’t wait to see and hear you all back at the Oval.

Saturday, 28 November Connah’s Quay v Barry Town United | Saturday – 13:30 (S4C) Connah’s Quay climbed up to second place following their 2-1 win against Cefn Druids last Friday, making it eight wins in 10 games for Andy Morrison’s men.

Barry Town on the other hand have gone five games without a win, scoring only twice in those five fixtures. The Nomads are unbeaten in their last seven meetings with Barry Town (won 3, drawn 4), and haven’t conceded in their last four games against Gavin Chesterfield’s side.

Caernarfon v Haverfordwest County | Saturday – 14:30 Caaernarfon have been sitting comfortably in the top half since the start of the season but could potentially fall into a false sense of security as they remain in 6th place but only two points above the relegation zone. Like the Cofis, Haverfordwest are without a win in their last four matches, but a victory for the Bluebirds would see them rise above the Canaries.

Haverfordwest County haven’t lost any of their last 15 meetings with Caernarfon, since their 6-0 thumping at the Oval back in 2002.

Flint Town United v Cardiff Met | Saturday – 14:30 Level on points in the 10th and 11th place, you could call this a real six-pointer at Cae-yCastell in the race to avoid relegation. Niall McGuinness breathed a huge sigh of relief as his Flint side ended their run of seven consecutive defeats with an impressive 0-3 away win at Haverfordwest last Saturday. Cardiff Met were the winners in the reverse fixture with Dylan Rees and Ollie Hulbert scoring for the students (Met 2-1 Flint) – their only win since beating Aberystwyth on the opening weekend of the season.

The New Saints v Aberystwyth | Saturday – 14:30 The New Saints start the weekend six points clear at the top of the table and remain unbeaten in the JD Cymru Premier this season. The Saints won six games on the bounce at the start of their campaign, and it was Aberystwyth who brought their run to an end with a 2-2 draw at Park Avenue in October, becoming the first team to score against the Oswestry outfit this season. Aberystwyth’s last away win against TNS was in 1993 when the club were still playing at Treflan, which means the Seasiders have never won against the Saints at Park Hall.

Sunday, 29 November Pen-y-bont v Cefn Druids | Sunday – 14:30 Cefn Druids are bottom of the table, five points behind the rest of the pack, but with two games in hand it’s too soon to panic for Bruno Lopes’ boys. Pen-y-bont have been the surprise package this season and have only lost to last season’s top three so far in this campaign (Connah’s Quay, The New Saints and Bala Town). Pen-y-bont were the winners in the reverse fixture as goals from Kane Owen and Mael Davies secured a 0-2 away win at The Rock in October.

The Football Association of Wales (FAW) is pleased to announce that all 44 Cymru Leagues clubs are set to receive financial support as part of a unique partnership with The National Lottery. The financial package – established by the FAW and The National Lottery and facilitated by the UK Government – will see clubs in the JD Cymru Premier, JD Cymru North and the JD Cymru South receive funding while matches continue to be played behind closed doors, owing to the current COVID-19 restrictions.

Football clubs and training facilities across the Cymru Leagues are often at the heart of their communities. They act as central hubs that give further opportunities for children and adults to be active, while bringing a source of pride to their towns. This funding stream recognises the essential role that Cymru Leagues clubs play beyond matchday. National Lottery players, who make a difference every time they buy a lottery ticket, will also get a range of benefits as a thank you for their support – including free tickets to football matches, once stadia are safe to reopen, and VIP experiences with the Cymru National Team. The funds, which will be distributed via the FAW, will play a key role in ensuring that the clubs can continue to exist, and, where possible, operate during these difficult times.

Jonathan Ford, CEO of the Football Association of Wales, “At the FAW, we are incredibly grateful for our unique partnership with The National Lottery and the funding stream which has been provided for our clubs across the Cymru Leagues, while matches continue to be played behind closed doors.”

Secretary of State for Wales Simon Hart said: “Clubs in the Cymru Leagues play a huge role in their local communities and, like many others, they have been struggling in the current climate. I’m delighted that the UK Government could help bring The National Lottery and the football authorities together to deliver for these clubs and for grassroots football in Wales. From Prestatyn to Taffs Well, this funding package will help enable clubs to keep going until fans can safely return.”

Chief Executive of National Lottery operator Camelot, said, “The National Lottery and its players have been making a massive difference to communities across the UK for the past 26 years, so we’re thrilled to be able to partner with the Football Association of Wales to provide vital funding for these incredibly important clubs in the Cymru Leagues. As a huge football fan myself, I know what this will mean to fans of these community clubs, and I’m sure they’ll be pleased to hear that their clubs are getting the support they need.”

The partnership follows a similar National Lottery initiative between the FA and National League in England, which was facilitated by the UK government. Work continues on partnerships with the Scottish and Northern Ireland FAs.

A tall and stylish midfielder or striker Mike was previously with Wrexham and Rhyl as a youth. St Asaph born Mike signed Welsh Premier forms with Bangor City in December 2006 but returned to Bastion Road - then in the Cymru Alliance after an unsuccessful spell at Farrar Road. He is Prestatyn’s leading goalscorer in the Welsh Premier and stayed with them during their financial difficulties in 2016-17 despite lucrative offers. Signed for the Canaries in October 2020.

James Stead (Midfield) 26 year old James signed for the Canaries in October 2020. Has previous Welsh Premier experience with Prestatyn Town. Was with Oldham Atheltic as a youngster and has a reputation for pace and for providing some excellent crosses.

Jack Kenny (Midfield) A goalscoring striker Jack joined Prestatyn at the end of the 2014-15 season aftering being released

by Rhyl. Warrington born Jack has previously played for Leigh Athletic, Alsager Town and Atherton Colliery. Signed for the Canaries in October 2020 after being released by Prestatyn Town.

CAERNARFON TOWN FC PEN PICS 2020/21 1 – Josh Tibbetts (Goalkeeper) Josh signed for the Canaries during the Summer of 2020 from Bala Town. His 19 appearances for Bala last season enhanced his reputation for being one of the best young goalkeepers in the Cymru Premier. Previous clubs include Birmingham City Academy, Peterborough, Royston Town, Solihull Moors, Southport, and Grimsby Town Reserves.

4 - Gruffydd John (Defender) Signed by the Canaries from CPD Porthmadog during the Summer of 2019. Very talented young central defender who will be a valuable addition to the squad. Previously played for Llanrug United in the Welsh Alliance and was also a Welsh Schools international. St Asaph born defender Joe joined Llandudno from local rivals Conwy Borough in January 2013. Joe has also played for Glan Conwy in the Welsh Alliance League and has made the right back position his own. A strong tackler who loves to attack down the right flank, Joe has become a firm favourite with the supporters.

5 - Gareth Edwards (Defender) Gareth signed for Town from Cefn Druids in August 2014 where he was also captain. A tall and imposing central defender who has proved to be an invaluable addition to the defence. Has also played in the Huws Gray Alliance for Buckley Town. This will be Gareth’s fifth season for the club and he is most definitely one of the leaders in the Caernarfon dressing room. Scored the winning goal at Bangor City in the Welsh Cup two seasons ago and cemented himself as a club legend among the Cofi Army.

3 – Jack Fleming (Defender) Jack joins the Canaries from English pyramid side Burscough FC. Usually plays at leftback. His previous clubs include Tranmere Rovers Academy, Northwich Victoria and Skelmersdale.

17 - Ryan Williams (Midfield) Locally based Ryan joined the Canaries from Wrexham where he starred as a member of the U18s squad. An excellent campaigner in midfield who has also filled in at centre-half on many occasions.

12 - Sam Jones (Midfield/Forward) An excellent young prospect who has signed for the Canaries from Bangor City last season. Scored plenty of goals for the Citizens land will be looking to add to his total at the Oval from last season.

CAERNARFON TOWN FC PEN PICS 2020/21 10 - Darren Thomas (Forward) Diminutive, pacey and skilful winger local boy Darren joined the Cofis in the 2012/13 and, apart from a four month sojourn in the Welsh Premier with Aberystwyth Town, he has been a major factor in Town’s climb up the leagues. Darren has also played for Llangefni and Porthmadog, scoring two Welsh Premier hat-tricks for the Anglesey club and quickly collecting 13 goals from 31 Welsh Premier appearances. Darren scored his 100th goal for the club during the 2017/18 season and is adored by the Oval faithful, who refer to him as the Cofi Messi.

11 - Danny Brookwell (Forward/ Winger) Locally Danny last played for Menai Bridge but has also represented the Royal Navy at under 19 and under 23 level. He has twice represented the Service at the Dallas Cup in Texas and in 2012 was nominated for the Royal Navy's Young Sports Person of the Year award. Signed from Glantraeth in September 2015.

Represented Ynys Mon at the Island Games in 2017 and 2019. Danny is a pacey, hard-working winger with an eye for goal and is another firm favourite with the supporters.

9 – Mike Hayes (Striker) Mike joins the Canaries from Bala Town and has vast experience at this level as a prolific goalscorer. Previous clubs include Chester and Wrexham Youth systems, Heswall, Connah’s Quay Nomads and Airbus UK Broughton. Looking to lead the line this season and add a few more to his tally.

7 - Sion Bradley (Striker) Sion began his journey to the Oval with spells at Blaenau Amateurs, Penrhyndeudraeth and Bangor City before moving to Porthmadog in January 2017. He signed for us from Porthmadog in 2018 and has impressed enormously by scoring some vital goals.

20 - Cai Jones (Striker) Cai has rejoined the club this Summer after a brief spell back at Porthmadog. Cai was previously with Caernarfon in 2012/13/14 and led the line impressively as we won the treble of the Welsh Alliance League, Welsh Trophy and Cookson Cup under Lee Dixon in 2012/13.

14 – Noah Edwards (Midfield) Noah joined the Canaries in August 2018 under Sean Eardley’s tenure as first team manager and has proved to be a Cofi Army favourite ever since. Signed from Connah’s Quay Nomads where he gained Europa League experience and has also featured for Prestatyn Town.

18 – Mohammed El-Arab (Striker) Locally-based Mo was promoted to the first team last season by Sean Eardley from the Development Squad after impressing in his role as striker. Hoping to get his opportunity this season to enhance his reputation further.

19 – Telor Williams (Midfield) Telor has resigned for the Canaries this season after a spell at Llandudno FC las season. Very tall and physical midfielder who will be hoping to establish himself in the senior squad this season.

13 – Tyler French (Goalkeeper) Tyler signed for the Canaries from Llangefni Town during the Summer of 2020. His previous clubs include Barmouth, Blaenau Ffestiniog, Holywell Town, Penrhyndeudraeth and Porthmadog.

21 – Asa Hamilton (Striker) Signed from FC Oswestry Town during the Summer of 2020, 28-year old Asa has an excellent reputation for scoring goals. He has previously played for Rhyl, Airbus UK Broughton, Buckley Town, Guilsfield, Penycae and Porthmadog.

by Paul Evans, Press Officer and Website Editor 13/11/2020— CTFC 1 CONNAH’S QUAY NOMADS 2 JD Cymru Premier Caernarfon took on the Cymru Premier League champions, Connahs Quay Nomads, at the Oval tonight and will feel that they deserved more than an injury time defeat after their best performance of the season. Huw Griffiths introduced recent signings Mike Parker and Jack Kenny into the side for their first starts and also welcomed back captain Gareth Edwards for his first start of the campaign after a persistent shoulder injury.

The change in personnel certainly seemed to give Caernarfon a bigger, and more vocal presence on the pitch and the hosts were more than a match for last season’s title winners throughout a pulsating encounter. It was pretty even stevens in the opening few minutes with Caernarfon looking the more offensive of the two sides, with a front four of Darren Thomas sitting behind Bradley, Kenny and Hayes, looking sharp and dangerous on the attack. The first real opportunity arrived in the thirteenth minute when Bradley burst upfield on the right and crossed to Hayes, whose first time volley was superbly saved, one handed and to his left, by keeper Lewis Brass.

The hosts were sharper to the ball in midfield and were pressing the visitors back into their own half, enjoying an amount of possession that they failed to manage at any time in their recent loss to the same opposition, and both Darren Thomas and Jack Kenny Paulo Mendes were disappointed not to have been awarded penalties after both seemed being bundled over in the Nomads area. With half-time approaching, the Nomads began to enjoy some of their own possession, which usually means plenty of crosses and an aerial bombardment into the Caernarfon box. With Gareth Edwards and Mike Parker forming an imposing centre half pairing, the Cofis dealt with the direct tactics well, although Town stopper Josh Tibbets was forced into two excellent one handed saves to deny Singh-Dool and Aaeron Edwards as half-time approached.

Caernarfon re-emerged for the second period intent on playing on the front foot and again, they bossed the first twenty minutes of the half.

Brass was soon in action between the sticks for the visitors, when he did well to punch away a Bradley header into the six yard area, with plenty of yellow shirts in attendance.

The opener finally arrived in the fiftieth minute and was well worth the wait. Gareth Edwards found Bradley with a superb long pass that gave Caernarfon’s tricky winger plenty of space to attack, and he quickly sped to the right edge of the box before fizzing a low cross into the sic yard area, where Town’s top scorer, Mike Hayes was on hand to slot the ball past Brass. It was the least the Cofis deserved and, just six minutes later, they very nearly doubled the lead with an identical move, but this time a defender scrambled back to clear the danger. The goal created some added urgency in Andy Morrisson’s side and the inevitable directness of their play was testing Town’s backline, although they looked solid enough, forcing the visitors to take long range efforts as they found it difficult to create opportunities. Brass again saved his side in the seventieth minute, when Bradley and Hayes linked well in the box to create an opportunity for the former, who was disappointed to see his powerful effort superbly saved by the stopper.

As nearly always seems to be the case, Nomads’ constant barrage of crosses finally paid off for them in the seventy fifth minute when Wilde headed into the top corner from close range to put his team back on level terms.

Both sides continued to play on the front foot in search of victory and Huw Griffiths showed that he wanted more than a point as he threw on two more strikers for the final few minutes, as Cai Jones and Danny Brookwell joined the action.

With the match in its second minute of injury time, referee Mr Evans decided that Brookwell had taken down Callum Morris in the box, and the midfielder picked himself up to put the Nomads ahead.

There was little time for Caernarfon to get their deserved point and the match ended on a sour note as most of the players on the pitch took part in a scuffle in the middle of the pitch following a tackle between Mendes and Aeron Edwards. The end result of this was that Brass was sent off for wrestling Noah Edwards to the ground, Callum Roberts was shown red for attempting to punch Cai Jones and Noah Edwards was sent off for a second bookable offence. Sion Bradley was also given an early shower soon later, with both teams finishing with nine men.

A frustrating end for Caernarfon, after a performance that deserved more. However, Huw Griffiths may feel disappointed by the result but will be sure to have seen lots of positives from his side and, with more performances like this, the Cofis will be looking forward to another good season in the top tier.
