As this is the last game of the 2021-22 season, I’d like to reflect somewhat on Tref Caernarfon’s accomplishments since last August. A play-off final for the second year in succession and 4th position in the League has to be a ‘best ever’ for Caernarfon in the Cymru Premier and certainly a season to be proud of, and yet again one at the start of 2021-22 that not many would have put odds on Town achieving! What is very disappointing is that the play-off this year isn’t for a place in Europe, and as such there has been very little ‘hype’ or media coverage for what has to be a great achievement for both Caernarfon Town and Flint Town respectively in reaching the final. It would be superb if this year Caernarfon could go one step further than last year and win! It is certainly what the lads will be aiming to do!

At the end of the season too, there are quite a few ‘thank yous’ to be made.‘On’ the field my thanks firstly go to the players - I’m immensely proud of what they have achieved, it has been a pleasure to work with such a talented group; secondly my thanks go to Fish, Kev, Rhys and Pixie, the coaching staff, for the support they have given me all year and who have put in hours of work to ensure the success of the team. The success ‘on’ the field though couldn’t happen without a lot of very hard work and dedication ‘off’ the field, and a huge thank you has to go to the Chairman and Board members for their tireless efforts in ensuring that Caernarfon Town remains such a unique and special Club; thank you too to all the volunteers and sponsors without whom the games wouldn’t have taken place, and of course thank you to you the faithful Cofi Army for your support (and patience, especially at the Oval!!) – you have, as usual, been ‘superb’! Town’s success has certainly been a ‘team effort’ on and off the field! Diolch yn fawr iawn, iawn i bob un ohonoch - #unclwb!

This year it has been an honour for Caernarfon Town to forge links with Liverpool FC and it has been a pleasure not only to have Kuba (Jakub Ojrzynski) on loan from them as our goalkeeper but to see him progress and develop during the season. Dziekuje Ci, Kuba and all the very best for the future, Caernarfon Town will be following your career with interest! Diolch iti a phob hwyl i’r dyfodol! All the best too to Liverpool FC in their big game later this afternoon and in their quest for the ‘quadruple’.

This Saturday the 2021/22 JD Cymru Premier season will come to an end with Caernarfon Town hosting Flint Town United in the play-off final.

In recent years the prize for winning the play-offs has been a ticket to the Europa League qualifiers, but since Wales has lost a spot in Europe for the coming season, the reward has had to be altered.

Its looking likely that this year’s format will be a one-off occurrence as Wales are set to reclaim their 4th European ticket for next year.

Both teams had to battle hard in last weekend’s semi-finals to book their place in this season’s play-off final. Flint Town United defended resolutely before winning on penalties against Pen-ybont, who also missed a spot kick in extra time, while Mike Hayes’ single goal was enough for the Cofis to see off Cardiff Met. This is Caernarfon Town’s third appearance in the JD Cymru Premier play-offs since their promotion in 2018, but after losing the semi-final against Cardiff Met in 2019, and then losing last year’s final against Newtown, the Cofis will be determined to go one step further this time around. Caernarfon Town have certainly had the better of Flint Town United this season, with the Canaries winning three of the four league meetings between the sides, and the Silkmen have won only once in their last 13 matches against the

Cofis. A play-off final victory would be a fine accolade at the end of a solid season for both teams as Caernarfon Town equalled their highest ever finish (4th), while Flint Town United secured their best position since 1996 (5th).

JD CYMRU PREMIER MANAGER AND PLAYER OF THE MONTH SHORTLIST FOR APRIL The shortlist for April's Player and Manager of the Month awards in the JD Cymru Leagues has been confirmed. The fans' vote will be combined with a league and independent voting panel to determine the winners.

Manager of the Month Colin Caton - Bala Town Colin Caton guided Bala Town to five wins out of their six games in April. The Lakesiders began the month with a 5-0 away win over Penybont and then played out a 1-1 draw with champions The New Saints. Caton's side also earned four consecutive wins against Newtown, Caernarfon Town, Flint Town United and Penybont, with the latter two coming away from home.

Anthony Limbrick - The New Saints April saw Anthony Limbrick also guide The New Saints to five wins out of six. The Saints started with a 3-0 away win over Caernarfon Town before the 1-1 draw with Bala. Limbrick's side also earned four straight victories over Flint Town United, Caernarfon Town, Penybont and Newtown, with the latter two coming on the road.

Craig Harrison - Connah's Quay Nomads Connah's Quay Nomads went unbeaten in April as they claimed four wins and two draws. Craig Harrison's side started the month with a home win over Aberystwyth Town and an away victory against Cefn Druids, before playing out a 1-1 draw with Barry Town United. The Nomads then put together back-to-back wins on home soil against Cardiff Met and Haverfordwest, and finished the campaign with a 1-1 draw away against Aberystwyth Town.

Player of the Month Ryan Astles - The New Saints Ryan Astles kept three clean sheets against Caernarfon Town, Flint Town United and Newtown in April as The New Saints signed off the campaign with an impressive set of results. The defender was a consistent figure for Anthony Limbrick's side and also got on the scoresheet against Caernarfon.

Will Evans - Bala Town Will Evans helped Bala Town enjoy an unbeaten April by playing a key part in the Lakesiders earning five wins and a draw. Evans scored a hat-trick against Penybont in the opening game of the month, got on the scoresheet against Caernarfon Town and again during the reverse fixture against Penybont.

Byron Harrison - Connah's Quay Nomads Byron Harrison scored in three of the five games he featured in throughout April as the Nomads went the month unbeaten. Harrison found the net in three consecutive games against Cefn Druids, Barry Town United and Cardiff Met, while he also provided an assist in the latter.

Lifumpa Mwandwe - Newtown Lifumpa Mwandwe has enjoyed an impressive campaign with Newtown and added another two goals to his tally in April. He ensured there would be no way back for Penybont by scoring the second in a 2-0 victory and also bagged the winner against Caernarfon Town, helping the Robins seal third in the JD Cymru Premier table.

This year’s theme celebrates the return of fans after stadiums reopened after the suspension of live sport.

07/05/2022— CTFC 1 CARDIFF MET UNI 0 JD Cymru Premier Play Off Semi Final Caernarfon are through to the final of the JD Cymru Premier League Play Offs after a hard working performance at the Oval that saw them defeat Cardiff Met by a single goal.

There may be no Europe qualification at stake at the end of the Play-offs this season but both sides were desperate to get through to the final,.

The importance of the match seemed to have an affect on the players as the first half was an extremely cagey affair and, on the balance of play, it would be fair to say that the Cofis were on top for most of it. Town’s first serious attempt at goal arrived in the fifth minute after good work by Noah Edwards resulted in an opening for Darren Thomas, whose first time effort was saved by Alex Lang. Thomas had a second goalbound effort blocked by a defender ten minutes later whilst he was instrumental in linking up with Eedwards in the twenty fifth minute to set up Danny Gosset, who saw his shot cleared off the goal line by a Cardiff Met defender.

The visitors thought they had gone ahead on thirty two minutes when a corner to the front post evaded everyone and Town stopper Ojrzynski did well to stop the ball from snaking over his line. The Caernarfon keeper was on hand again five minutes later to deny Eliot Evans with a smart save. The deadlock was finally broken as the first half entered its’ second minute of injury time. Bobby Beaumont failed to connect cleanly with a cross into the Met boxand Darren Thomas was first to react with a delightful cross into the six yard area where Mike Hayes did well to reach the ball between two defenders and the keeper, and his touch was enough to beat Lang from two yards.

Where Caernarfon had been the dominant force in the opening half, Cardiff Met certainly turned the tables in a testing second period for the hosts. The visitors saw much more of the ball after the break but rarely created much in front of goal, as Caernarfon’s rearguard seemed intent on keeping a rare clean sheet. Emlyn Lewis headed over the bar for Met in the forty seventh minute whilst Craven was wayward with his long range effort a few minutes later. Lang rescued the visitors from falling a second goal behind in the fifty fifth minute when he did well to deny Joe Faux. A Roscrow free kick in the latter stages flew over the woodwork for Met whilst a Danny Gosset effort followed the same trajectory at the other end as Caernarfon tried to add a second.

Bbobby Beaumont was unfortunate to see his heard from a Thomas corner blocked on the line and, despite an aerial bombardment from the visitors in the final minutes, Town held firm and clinched an important win,.

Jon Rushton (Goalkeeper) Jon has now moved permanently to Flint, having initially joined on loan from Bala Town in January 2021. Previously he was Prestatyn's No. 1 and was part of Neil Gibson's title winning squad.

While contracted to Nomads, Jon managed 38 appearances in the Welsh Premier League, with 3 appearances in the Europa League Playoff matches. He also had loan spells at Newtown and Holywell Town during his time at Nomads. He helped Nomads qualify for the Europa League in 2016 with two clean sheets having come into side following an injury to their keeper, while also saving a penalty against Camarthen to send Connah’s Quay into the Europa League. He’s also had stints at Vauxhall Motors, Manor Athletic, Penycae and Brickfield Rangers earlier in his career.

Conor Harwood (Midfield) A talented young attacker who joined Flint from neighbours Connah's Quay in June 2020. Conor possesses a good turn of pace and trickery to wrong foot defenders, and following his initial success last season looks set to establish himself as one of the team's most potent attacking threats for the current campaign.

Kai Edwards (Defender) Vastly experienced centre half, who has joined from Prestatyn, and was a key figure in their successful title winning campaign under Neil Gibson in the Cymru North.

Sam Hart (Defender) Returned to Flint for a second spell last year, having left in Season 2018/19 to join Airbus.

A versatile player who can play left back, centre back or slot into midfield. Proved to be a very reliable figure in the heart of defence last season, and produced some good set piece deliveries, even managing to score direct from a corner in the win at Penybont ! Sam has been sponsored this season by an FTU Supporters collective.

Ben Nash (Defender) Ben came through the ranks at Connah's Quay Nomads, and made his first team debut for them in December 2014 against The New Saints at Park Hall. He has also represented Wales at U18 level and was part of the Gap Coleg Cambria side who won the U19 National Colleges Final in May 2015.

He eventually left The Nomads in late 2016, joining Denbigh Town, before moving on to Rhyl for the start of the 2018/19 season. At the end of that season, his performances for the Lilywhites saw him receive the Players', Manager's and Directors' awards for Player of the Season. He settled into his role at Flint extremely well last season, and proved adaptable by featuring in centre back or right back roles, and proved to be one of the most consistent performers across the whole season.

Danny Harrison (Midfield) A vastly experienced player, Danny, whose favoured position is central midfield, has joined from Connah's Quay Nomads, for whom he played for 6 seasons, winning two Cymru Premier titles, the Welsh Cup and the NMG Cup during that time. Born in Liverpool, Danny was a product of the Tranmere Rovers youth system. Joining the club as a 13-year-old, he was granted his first team debut in the 2001–02 season at home against Wigan Athletic. Harrison was a regular in the centre of midfield in the Brian Little era, but under Ronnie Moore he found opportunities harder to come by and signed for Rotherham on 25 May 2007. After 5 years with the Yorkshire club he was released in May 2012, and rejoined Tranmere on a one year deal. The following summer he dropped into the Conference National when he joined neighbours Chester, making 29 appearances, and scoring 2 goals. In 2015 he made the transition into Cymru Premier football, when he joined the Nomads.

Ben Maher (Midfield) A playmaker who can operate in a number of roles. His versatility means he can play in defence or support the attack, as well as across the middle, where he can dictate play. Proved himself a key figure in Prestatyn’s title winning side last season. Ben was a product of Tranmere’s youth system, before joining Prestatyn for the first time. He has also had brief spells at Rhyl and Caernarfon but subsequently returned to the Seasiders on each occasion.

Ross Weaver (Midfield) Ross is an infectious character who has a real desire to push himself to the limits to improve every training session and in every game he wants to be the best he can be. He expects the same off everyone else, which creates a great environment within the group. He’s comfortable in possession and works extremely hard out of possession to win tackles, press the ball and regain possession. Ross has a great pedigree, having being a professional at Wrexham, and then playing for Prestatyn, during which time he gained some good WPL experience.

Mark Cadwallader (Striker) Now in his sixth season with Flint, “Caddy” has been the club's top goalscorer for the previous three seasons. He was voted Supporters' Player of the Season for 2019/20, as well as picking up a couple of Cymru North Player of the Month awards. Prior to joining Flint, he was with Rhyl for four seasons. He graduated through Chester City’s youth system and has enjoyed spells at Bangor, Connah’s Quay, Northwich Victoria and Airbus. He made a successful return to Cymru Premier league level last season, by once again finishing the joint top goalscorer for the club with 6 goals in 26 appearances. Caddy has kindly been sponsored for the season by USA based fan, David Maxwell.

Mike Wilde (Striker) Michael is quite rightly regarded as a legend within the Cymru Premier League following his goalscoring exploits for both Nomads and TNS. He had originally joined TNS (then known as Total Network Solutions) in 2002 from Poulton Victoria. He was the Oswestry-based side's supporter's player of the season in the 2004/05 and 2005/06 seasons. After his initial spell at TNS, Wilde joined Fleetwood Town in January 2009 before moving to Halifax Town and Chester, where he netted 36 goals in 43 games, returning to TNS again in June 2012. He was voted as the Welsh Premier League Player of The Season in the 2012/13 season. He joined Nomads in June 2016 and went on to be a significant figure in the club's subsequent success. He made his competitive debut against Stabæk in Nomads' first ever UEFA Europa League match, and went on to make a total of 154 competitive starts for the club, scoring on 73 occasions, a very impressive strike rate which averaged a goal every 2.1 games.

He also netted a famous winner against Queen's Park at Hampden Park in the Irn Bru Cup and fittingly his final goals for the Connah's Quay came in the form of a hat-trick against his former side TNS at Park Hall as Nomads picked up their first ever away victory over the side from Oswestry, a victory which was key in them retaining the League title. Hanes Diweddar CPD Tref Y Fflint Recent History of Flint Town United The League Cup final was reached in 2013-14, where we faced Caernarfon Town. Unfortunately, on the day, the Canaries proved to be the stronger side, and ran out 3-1 winners. 2014/15 saw no less than three managers take charge. Paul Davies, after 10 years in charge, stepped down from being the 1st Team manager, and became the club's first Director of Football. His Assistant, Howard Tweats, who had joined in the close season, was appointed Interim First Team Manager. But after some indifferent results, including a Welsh Cup defeat at the hand of Penrhyncoch, Tweats left by mutual consent. Timmy Williams took over the reins, and overcame an extremely poor start, by being awarded manager of the month for January. Results on the pitch had followed a similar pattern to previous years, with inconsistency the order of the day.

Williams stepped down from the managerial position at the end of the season. It was off the field matters which took precedence, as thanks to the hard work of a dedicated few, the club was finally awarded the domestic licence, a pre-requisite for promotion back to the Welsh Premier League, and it is something we have proudly attained for each of the following seasons. At the start of 2017/18, former Everton & Hibernian coach and local Flint lad, Andy Holden was appointed manager. However, the switch from coaching full time professionals to players at a semi-professional level, proved problematic, and after a series of indifferent results, Holden decided to step down. ExRhyl manager, Niall McGuinness, was subsequently appointed, and after a slow start, results improved, and some momentum was gained. Once again we reached the final of the League Cup, and at the sixth time of asking, we finally won the cup, beating Gresford Athletic in a sudden death penalty shoot out. Greater consistency in the league was rewarded by a runners up position for season 2018/19, and this feat was repeated for 2019/20, a season abruptly curtailed by the Covid 19 outbreak. Champions Prestatyn Town were refused promotion to the JD Cymru Premier League, following their failure to secure the Tier 1 Licence. Consequently, we were accepted into the Premier League, having successfully gained the licence. So, after an absence of 22 years, we were finally back in the top tier of Welsh domestic football.

Our return to the top tier for Season 2020/21, was somewhat muted and a surreal atmosphere prevailed, with games having to be played behind closed doors due to the ongoing pandemic, and the season being a stop/start affair due to lockdowns. A reasonably bright start was soon a distant memory, as we underwent a wretched run of 10 defeats in 11 games, including a 10-0 thrashing at The New Saints. A 6-3 defeat away at Barry, proved the final straw, and Niall McGuinness departed the club and was replaced by former Prestatyn manager, Neil Gibson, who was given the brief to ensure the club finished outside of the bottom two, so as to guarantee it's Cymru Premier status, should Tier 2 football resume as planned.

In the event, the worsening Covid situation put paid to the resumption of Tier 2 football in Wales, and Flint were spared relegation, despite finishing in 11th place (next to bottom) in the final table, in what was an arduous and mentally exhausting season for all concerned.

Now, having had the close season to prepare and assemble his squad, and with a whole set of league fixtures ahead, Neil Gibson and his staff will be doing their utmost to make sure we do not find ourselves in the same predicament once again.

CAERNARFON TOWN FC PEN PICS 2021/22 1 – Jakub Ojrzynski (Goalkeeper) A 19-year-old Polish national, Kuba signed for the Canaries during the Summer of 2021 on loan from Liverpool FC. He is regarded as an excellent prospect by LFC and he has been a regular starter in the Under 23 level and was on the bench for the first team on several occasions last season.

4 - Gruffydd John (Defender) Signed by the Canaries from CPD Porthmadog during the Summer of 2019. Very talented young central defender who will be a valuable addition to the squad. Previously played for Llanrug United in the Welsh Alliance and was also a Welsh Schools international. Played a pivotal role in Town’s defence last season and is certain to feature regularly this season.

2 – Iwan Cartwright (Defender) Iwan signed for the Canaries during the summer of 2021 from Cefn Druids AFC. His previous clubs include Newtown AFC, Nuneaton, Wrexham and Hednesford. Looking to establish himself at right back this season.

17 - Ryan Williams (Midfield) Locally based Ryan joined the Canaries from Wrexham where he starred as a member of the U18s squad. An excellent campaigner in midfield who has also filled in at centre-half on many occasions.

10 - Darren Thomas (Forward) Diminutive, pacey and skilful winger local boy Darren joined the Cofis in the 2012/13 and, apart from a four month sojourn in the Welsh Premier with Aberystwyth Town, he has been a major factor in Town’s climb up the leagues. Darren has also played for Llangefni and Porthmadog, scoring two Welsh Premier hat-tricks for the Anglesey club and quickly collecting 13 goals from 31 Welsh Premier appearances. Darren scored his 100th goal for the club during the 2017/18 season and is adored by the Oval faithful, who refer to him as the Cofi Messi.

11 – Rob Hughes (Forward/ Midfield) A tenacious midfielder/attacker,Rob netted 18 goals for Prestatyn Town during season 2019/20, before joining Melbourne Knights in Australia. His goals helped to propel the Seasiders to the JD Cymru North title. He had previous experience of football down under from his time with Goulburn Valley Suns, whom he played for in 2017. Signed for the Canaries from Flint Town United during the summer of 2021.

6 – Dion Donohue (Defender) A former Everton trainee, he began his senior career in the lower levels of Welsh football with Porthmadog, Holyhead Hotspur and Caernarfon Town before switching to Sutton Coldfield Town of the Northern Premier League Division One South in 2014. A year later, he turned professional with Chesterfield in EFL League One, and spent two years with Portsmouth before joining Mansfield Town in 2019. Started his second spell at the Oval during the summer of 2021.

8 – Daniel Gosset (Midfield) Well known and talented midfielder who started his career at Oldham Athletic in 2012, and later played for Rhyl, TNS, Bangor City and Bala Town. Signed for the Canaries from Bala Town during the summer of 2021. Has also played football at C level for Wales in 2018.

15 – Aaron Simpson (Defender) Aaron started his career at Wrexham and signed for Rhyl in 2017 before moving on to Cefn Druids. Signed for the Canaries during summer 2021.

39 – Cian Evans (Forward) Cian was promoted to the first team squad from the under 19s during season 2020/21 and made several appearances as a substitute.
