A WELCOME FROM MAYOR FINKAM

On behalf of the City of Carmel, I am delighted to welcome you to Booth Tarkington Civic Theatre’s Young Artists Production of Legally Blonde! Our city’s vibrant arts and cultural scene is a big part of what makes Carmel such a fantastic place to work, visit, and call home, and Civic theatre plays a key role in bringing that creative energy to life.

As the longest continuously operating community theatre in the United States, Civic Theatre has been a cultural cornerstone of Central Indiana since its founding in 1915, offering outstanding live entertainment to a broad and diverse audience. It is the largest community theatre in Indiana, and also ranks among the 10 largest in the country. Since 2011, Civic Theatre has called Carmel home, enriched our community and built a lasting legacy. We are fortunate to have Civic as one of the pillar organizations within our beautiful Allied Solutions Center for the Performing Arts.

Civic Theatre’s programs cater to all ages and interests. The Junior Civic program introduces young people, from toddlers to teens, to theatre skills and life lessons - such as discipline, self-confidence, and teamwork - that help build a stronger community. Each year, Civic delivers 90 performances and provides more than 500 opportunities for volunteers and professionals to participate onstage and behind the scenes in a high-caliber setting, with access to cutting-edge equipment and facilities—right here in the heart of Carmel!

I encourage everyone to enjoy the remarkable shows and educational programs that Civic Theatre offers. My heartfelt thanks go to the staff, crew, volunteers and patrons who make the Booth Tarkington Civic Theatre such an important cultural partner in our community.

Enjoy the show!

DIRECTOR’S NOTE

At first glance, LEGALLY BLONDE: THE MUSICAL! may seem like a fun, pink, high-energy musical comedy (and trust me, it is all of those things), but beneath the glitter lies a story about empowerment, identity, and the importance of staying true to yourself.

At its core, this show is about growing into the person you were meant to be—not the person the world expects you to be. And for a group of teenagers who are in the midst of figuring out who they are and who they want to become, this story couldn’t be more timely. Elle Woods begins the show thinking she has to change everything about herself to be taken seriously. But over the course of her journey, she discovers that her strength comes not from pretending to be someone else, but from embracing who she already is.

Directing this show with a cast of teens has been nothing short of inspiring. These students have worked tirelessly to bring this production to life with passion, creativity, and courage. They’ve explored not just the humor and style of the show, but its emotional core. They’ve challenged themselves to step into characters with boldness, vulnerability, and joy.

Every moment of this process has been driven by teamwork, trust, and a shared belief in telling this story with honesty and heart. This show is a true collaboration between myself, Music Director Jennie Kistner, and Choreographer/YAP Coordinator Anne Beck. Thank you both for your friendship, artistry, and collaboration. Their work is, as ever, impressive to say the least.

And to the families and supporters in the audience: thank you for encouraging these young performers to follow their passions and to take creative risks. Your support means more than you know.

So, whether you’re here for the laughs, the music, or a good “Bend and Snap”, I invite you to look a little deeper. Laugh with us, cheer with us, and maybe, just maybe, leave the theater feeling a little braver, a little bolder, and a little more legally unstoppable.

Enjoy the show!
