A WELCOME FROM MAYOR FINKAM

On behalf of the City of Carmel, I am delighted to welcome you to Booth Tarkington Civic Theatre’s production of Irving Berlin's White Christmas! Our city's vibrant arts and cultural scene is a big part of what makes Carmel such a fantastic place to live, work, and visit, and Civic Theatre plays a key role in bringing that creative energy to life.

As the longest continuously operating community theatre in the United States, Civic Theatre has been a cultural cornerstone of Central Indiana since its founding in 1915, offering outstanding live entertainment to a broad and diverse audience. It is the largest community theatre in Indiana, and also ranks among the 10 largest in the country. Since 2011, Civic Theatre has been proud to call Carmel home, enriching our community and building a lasting legacy, and we are so fortunate to have Civic as one of the pillar organizations within our beautiful Allied Solutions Center for the Performing Arts.

Civic Theatre’s programs cater to all ages and interests. The Junior Civic program introduces young people, from toddlers to teens, to theatre skills and life lessons - such as discipline, self-confidence, and teamwork - that help build a stronger community. Each year, Civic delivers 90 performances and provides more than 500 opportunities for volunteers and professionals to participate onstage and behind the scenes in a high-caliber setting, with access to cutting-edge equipment and facilities—right here in the heart of Carmel!

I encourage everyone to enjoy the remarkable shows and educational programs that Civic Theatre offers. My heartfelt thanks go to the staff, crew, volunteers and patrons who make the Booth Tarkington Civic Theatre such an invaluable cultural partner in our community.

Enjoy the show!

DIRECTOR'S LETTER

Welcome to IRVING BERLIN’S WHITE CHRISTMAS, a heartwarming celebration of family, tradition, and the power of music to bring people together. At its core, this story is about more than just snow and holiday cheer—it’s about community, resilience, and the shared joy of putting on a show.

One of the most delightful elements of this musical is the “let’s put on a show in the barn” theme. It’s a classic American narrative that embodies creativity, resourcefulness, and a can-do spirit. In this story, the barn becomes more than a stage—it’s a gathering place where talents are shared, bonds are strengthened, and dreams are brought to life. It reminds us that art can transform even the most ordinary spaces into something extraordinary when fueled by passion and purpose.

This production also pays homage to the timeless music of Irving Berlin, whose songs are an integral part of the Great American Songbook. From the heartfelt strains of “Count Your Blessings Instead of Sheep” to the jubilant chorus of “Blue Skies,” Berlin’s melodies have a way of transporting us to moments of nostalgia and hope. His music is a cornerstone of our cultural heritage, inspiring generations to sing, dance, and dream together.

As you experience this story, we hope it sparks memories of your own cherished traditions and inspires you to embrace the magic of working together toward something greater than ourselves. Whether it’s a holiday dinner, a family project, or even a last-minute show in a barn, it is in these moments that we find joy, connection, and a sense of belonging.

Thank you for spending your valuable time with us this season. May our production bring you the warmth of tradition, the joy of music, and the inspiration to create magic in your own corner of the world.

Happy Holidays!
