Golf News

October.... one of my most favorite months. The weather begins to cool, leaves start to fall, football is at its best, and it's the perfect time to play golf. October 2024 at BCC did not disappoint. The Nashville Seniors returned with much better weather than their first attempt. The BCC ladies took down the Old Hickory CC ladies in "The Clash." We had two great days for the BMGA Medley. Our first Glow Ball tournament on the new course was a huge success. The Herchel Spears Cup took place with the top tournament players from 2024 in a Ryder Cup style match. Assistant Pros, Skyler and Matt, each captained their teams brilliantly with Matt's team ultimately pulling out the overall victory.

Now that we are onto November with daylight savings coming to an end, it's time to start looking towards the holidays. The golf course will be open on Thanksgiving day with golf carts being "due in" earlier than usual so that the golf staff can have an opportunity to enjoy supper with their families. The first tee time of the day moves to 8:30am in November and guest restrictions will be adjusted for the lack of daylight. Our next big event on the golf side of things will be the holiday shopping sale. Be sure to get your family and friends a gift from the BCC Golf Shop while also taking advantage of great savings. More to come.

We look forward to the opportunity to play golf through the winter, something we haven't had in two years. With the turf still in a state of infancy, you can expect heavier golf cart restrictions as we move into colder days and nights. This is all in an effort to protect the health of the golf course and increase the chances for a full recovery from dormancy.

It sure was a great golf season at BCC this year, one for the history books. November is the month to give thanks. I wont even try to list everone as I'm sure I would forget someone. So instead, I just want thank all of you from the bottom of my heart for being a part of this very special BCC family.

2024 BCC Junior Golf – Year in Review

Part 1 – Spring Clinics, Summer Camps, and PGA Junior League

2024 was an exciting year on many fronts, but for me, one of the many highlights was the return of the Junior Golf Program at BCC. Without a golf course in 2023 due to the renovation, we missed our youngest golfers, and 2024 was a huge success with high demand!

The year kicked off with the “Swing into Spring” clinic series, held on Monday evenings beginning March 18 and ending on May 6 We had 40 junior golfers sign up for this program and averaged 37 participants per clinic date! This program focused on the big three of golf; putting, chipping, and driving, while providing some on-course time towards the end of the program! Coach Mike, Skyler, Matt, Trevor, and I had a great time introducing, and reintroducing our juniors to the fundamentals of golf!

As we moved into the summer, the junior program really started to heat up with three full-week camps, as well as the PGA Junior League’s ninth season! The main focus of the summer camps was fun experiences in golf, consisting of skill instruction, physical activities, many water/snack breaks (it was HOT!), and on course learning experiences! Most camp days ended with water balloon challenges, including Coach Mike donning the “SNAG” golf suit and getting pelted with tennis balls and drenched with water balloons by the kids! The fun ending to the camps helped the kids get their minds off the heat and leave with some lasting impressions and a taste of the fun to be had on the golf course!

The 2024 PGA Junior League program was divided into two “leagues/teams”, which allowed more juniors to participate and the instruction to be catered to the experience level of the junior golfer. The program grew from 32 participants in 2022 to 40 this year and provided three times as many playing opportunities as the year before the renovation!

The Travel Team was comprised of 16 junior golfers with previous camp, clinic, lesson, and tournament experience. These juniors were intermediate to advanced junior golfers looking for more competition, as well as opportunities to learn. Our division was comprised of teams from Richland, Hillwood, and Old Natchez The season started with three weeks of practice, then transitioned into the match portion of the league We were able to schedule nine matches for the 2024 season and our team put on a great show with a record of 8 wins and 1 loss. Better yet, we held an undefeated record at home! It was great to see our juniors battle it out on the golf course, show great sportsmanship, and learn more about golf!

The Instructional League was comprised of 24 junior golfers with less than two years of camp, clinic, lesson, and tournament experience Coach Skyler and Matt hosted five weeks of skills practice during the season, and every time the Travel Team had a home match, the Instructional League played a team scramble behind the match This was a great way to introduce our beginner to less-experienced intermediate junior golfers to the golf course and the format of the junior league, in a low-stress environment that encouraged fun and learning! Score keeping wasn’t necessary, but snacks, Gatorade, and ice cream was a must! I want to send a huge shout out to all of the parents, family members, and BCC staff members involved with the junior golf program! Without your help during the season, we would not have been able to offer as many playing and learning opportunities, lending to memories and experiences that will last a lifetime!

Planning for the 2025 junior golf season is already underway! We look forward to introducing some new programs and events, as well as continuing the programs that have had great success for our juniors! Stay tuned to the monthly newsletters and weekly updates as we turn the calendar and start to introduce and announce our 2025 programming!

Golf Course Maintenance

Dear BCC Members,

It's incredible to think that our golf course is now a year old! I hope you have enjoyed the progression of the course throughout its first year. We have certainly enjoyed maintaining, grooming, and learning about this beautiful layout and we look forward to many more decades of great golf and excellent playing conditions here at BCC.

Now that we are well into Fall, and approaching Winter, we have overseeded most of our "in-play" fescue areas. These are typically areas under trees (shady areas), but easily identifiable because fescue stays green all winter. We have waited later than normal to do this seeding, mostly due to lack of rain. We overseed every Fall to help strengthen these areas and because these grasses typically thin out due to golf car traffic and hot summers. We thank you for your patience as we aggressively move this seed into the soil to best get the seed germinated and ready for next golf season.

Speaking of golf car traffic, very soon we will be limiting golf cars to the path only. In the past few years, there has been some devastating winter kill in Middle TN, and University data from Univ. of TN Knoxville has shown that golf car traffic on dormant warm season grasses substantially increases winter damage, turf health, and spring green-up. The good news is that the course, and our fairways, are in fantastic shape headed into winter. In an effort to maintain excellent playability and health, we will be instituting a cart path only stance sometime this month. Please look for a separate email from Tommy and I regarding this policy.

Earlier this year, we had a walking bridge made for the small creek crossing on hole #1. Installation has taken much longer than I expected and I'm sorry for the delay. In our efforts to drill a concrete pillar foundation, we encountered bedrock. With the heavy amount of golf we saw this Fall, we delayed our dirtwork and mess in that area so we can pour concrete and attach the bridge properly so it doesn't wash away with some of the flooding we experience, particularly in that area. Thank you for your patience, I know the end product will be worth the wait.

November is a month of thanks, and my team and I are very grateful to work with such an incredible team and to work at such an outstanding Club. We are truly thankful for you and your continued support of BCC!

From the Kitchen

BCC Members,

We all hope everyone is enjoying this nice weather before it gets cooler. As we wrap up our early autumn activities and look forward to the "Holiday Season" on our calendars, let's make plans for you all to celebrate at our club. We have a lot of fun and exciting moments in store for you and all of your families over the next few months.

We recently unveiled our new dinner menu along with revamping our lunch and Sunday menus. We have had some positive feedback with extending our fresh seafood options along with some homestyle / comfort dishes as specials. Our Seafood Alfredo and Pecan Trout both stand out but the Pork Ribeye lands as the "Culinarians Favorite" from the kitchen staff. We also had a six week stretch of Family style buffets, during August thru the first of October, which brought value and variety for dinner. Thank you all that attended and please come to another fun night at Cash Draw November 7th, with another Country Style Buffet.

Please keep BCC in mind for helping with all your holiday needs. If it is a quick and easy to-go meal, a place to celebrate, business meeting, elegant grand Smokehouse dinner or even your entire Thanksgiving meal...let us do the cooking for you all enjoy.

Thank you all for your support and feel free to pop in the kitchen to say "Hello" to any of your staff as we all look forward to providing the best experience for you and your family.

Sincerely,

The Medlin Family

Madison and Lane are so excited to be part of the BCC family! Originally from Richmond, Virginia, the Medlins moved to Franklin in early 2023 and have three kids, daughter Charlie (5), son Burley (3), and son Jack (14 months). Lane is the president of DET Beverages in Nashville and Madison wrangles the kids’ schedules at home. They cannot wait to expand their network and meet new families at the pool in the summer and through other social events at the club.
