Dear Members,
I hope you've been enjoying the club this year, despite the cold, wet spring we experienced. Summer is now in full swing, and July is going to be a very busy month for us.
We will be aerifying greens and tees right after the holiday weekend. We'll be using a similar size coring tine on the greens as in the past, which should allow them to heal and return to normal quickly with minimal disruption to your golfing experience. We will also be aerifying and addressing some of the thinner areas in the fairways that are still recovering from winter.
Additionally, we have a tree company scheduled to remove the two pine trees on the 11th tee box and a large oak on the left side of the 9th fairway. These trees have been negatively impacting turf health, and Bill Bergin recommended their removal. We'll also take this opportunity to limb up many other trees on the course, which is a normal annual practice.
Please enjoy your 4th of July celebrations, and we look forward to seeing you on the links!

Consistent Contact for Better Distance Control
Guarantee solid contact with these tips!
For the majority of my golf career, I struggled mightily with distance control around the greens. My short game woes stemmed from a lack of confidence regarding contact, and not fully understanding how to achieve the desired contact more often than not. I found myself hitting one chip chunky and short, then blading and airmailing the next one, stuck in a pattern of guessing, and most of the time, getting it wrong! I tried countless variations of the chipping motion, from the Phil Mickelson philosophy of “hinge and hold”, to the Steve Stricker or Jason Day “wide arms, minimal hinge”, and everything in between. Through many years of trial and error, I have compiled a list of “must-dos” for consistent contact in chipping. Over the next few months, I want to share this information with you to help you find more confidence in the short game! Follow the guidelines below to start gaining consistency!
1.Establish a proper set-up::
a. Weight Distribution
i I prefer a 50-50 weight distribution at address, but a 60-40 lead leg (left leg for right handed golfer) distribution is O K
b Stance Width
i.I prefer to see the feet fairly close together, as if you were standing and talking to someone.
c.Ball Position – this is determined by desired trajectory
i.Low trajectory = one to two balls back of center
ii.Mid trajectory = middle of stance or one ball forward of center
iii.High trajectory = two or more balls forward of center, but not outside the front foot
d.Shaft/Hand Position – also determined by desired trajectory
i Low or Mid trajectory = shaft and hands slightly ahead of the ball
ii High trajectory = shaft and hands in line with the ball
e Posture
i.Stand as tall as possible with minimal forward tilt over the ball, and allow your arms to hang straight down.
2. Backswing & Downswing:
a.Weight Shift
i.Whether you use your hands to hinge the club, or swing more with your arms, make sure your weight does not shift to your trail foot (right foot for a right handed golfer) in the backswing. I prefer for the weight to start moving towards the target in the backswing Think about a corn-hole toss When your throwing arm swings back, your body starts moving forward
ii As you go to strike the ball, continue moving forward until the vast majority of your weight is on the front foot
b Upper Body Tilt
i.Tilt your lead shoulder towards the target during the motion. This sets the contact point forward of the middle of the stance, and is the contact point we want, regardless of ball position. After contact, you can stand straight up
c.Try to move the club-head in a straight line back and through.
i.Getting the club too far inside of the target line in the backswing will cause major problems with your contact. Again, if you think about corn-hole When you perform the throwing motion, you move your throwing arm straight back and through!
ii I like to use the metal ball tubes or an alignment stick on the ground when practicing so I can see the club moving in a “straight line”

PGA Junior League practices and matches, Summer Camp 3, & The Intensive!
It is hard to believe that we are halfway through the summer! We look forward to another great month of junior golf as we continue the PGA Junior League, host Summer Camp 3, and the 2nd Annual Junior Member-Guest!
Over the month of June, the PGA Junior League Travel Team competed in five matches, including a three team, 58 player match at Richland! Our team has compiled a 5-0 record so far, the juniors are learning so much each and every time out, and enjoying Coach Mike’s ice cream challenges! We have five matches this month, three at home and two away The home matches will begin at 4:00 PM The tee sheet will be “blocked” beginning at 2:30 PM, and normal play will resume at 4:30 PM on hole 10
The Instructional League has enjoyed a couple on-course practices to go along with the weekly skills practices For this group of young golfers, it’s all about quantity! We want to provide as many opportunities as possible so they can gain comfort and confidence when on the practice facility and golf course. This month, we will continue weekly practices on Wednesdays, and have two more on-course times on Monday evenings. On Wednesday practice days, we will reserve parts of the practice facility and have drills/activities set-up for the participants to work through. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and understanding as we provide our juniors with more learning opportunities than ever before!
Summer Camp 3 will take place this month. The camps will run from 1-4 PM each day. The camps will incur slight disturbances to some of the practice facilities each day, and we will do our best to keep it to a minimum. Summer Camp 3 is currently full with several people on the wait list. If your child is signed up and your plans have changed, please let us know!

Drew and Rachel are very excited to join the BCC Family! They are moving to Brentwood from Chicago. Rachel is a health care attorney at Polsinelli and Drew works in professional development at McDermott Will & Schulte. They have two sons, Eli (7 years old) and Isaac (5 years old). You will likely see them both doing cannonballs at the BCC pool!
To introduce our family-mom is Leslie Clark, dad is Blake Clark. We have two girls: Mila who’s age 2 1/2 and Helena who is 1 1/2; yes they are 14 months apart! We have a golden retriever named Izzy. Leslie is Hospital Sales Specialist and Blake is a Senior Customs Compliance Specialist for Amazon. We both relocated to Nashville from western Kentucky several years before becoming a family. We started downtown, moved to 12 South before having Mila and moved to Brentwood 2 weeks before having Helena. As a family, we love to play outside- we enjoy pool days, visiting the park, zoo, lake, beach etc. Blake plays golf, Leslie is learning. We also try to take advantage of all the musical talent, entertainment & festivals Nashville offers. We are looking forward to meeting many of the BCC families and many good times and years ahead.
Karl and Melissa have lived in Brentwood for the last 6 years and are excited to join the Brentwood Country Club. They have two children (Jacob – age 8 and Paige – age 6) and a 2 year old Wheaten Terrier –Peaches. Karl is most excited to improve his golf game so he can stop losing to his in-laws in family get-togethers. Melissa is excited to put her clubs to use. Jake and Paige are most excited for the ice cream at the pool.
