It's hard to believe that the Summer is almost over. Kids will soon return to school, and football season is right around the corner. This past month has been a joy to experience at BCC. Our junior golf program has been a massive success. We conducted three week-long junior golf camps, supported two PGA Jr. League teams, and held our first-ever Junior Member-Guest. A big thank you goes out to Andrew, Mike, Skyler, and Matt for their efforts in making Summer 2024 one to remember for our junior golfers.
The Maintenance team has been hard at work getting our golf course in phenomenal shape. We aerified the putting greens, tees, and verti-cut the fairways in early July with all three of these areas recovering very well and quickly. Now we look forward to the Club Championship in August. The greens are getting faster every week, and golfers are working hard on their game. The rest of the tournament season is filled with many of our favorite events, including the Calcutta, Member-Member, and two of our Ladies Member-Guests (18HL and 9HL), all right around the corner. Reminder: all our tournament sign-ups can be found on the Golf Genius app using the GGID code BCC24. Click here for a video from Assistant Golf Professional, Matt Voss, with instructions on how to sign up.
As the Fall season gets closer, we look forward to the arrival of new apparel in the Golf Shop. Remember to stop by and take advantage of the great savings available through the Buyers Club program. Tommy Baxter Head Golf Professional
Where did the summer go?!
It is hard to believe the summer is coming to an end! With the return to school around the corner, I wanted to reflect on the summer junior golf activity.

Beginning in May, BCC’s PGA Junior League included forty (40) juniors on two teams The Travel Team was comprised of juniors with 2 or more years of camp, clinic, and tournament experience. The Instructional League was geared for the beginner to intermediate golfer, offering more practice time and a low-stress environment on the course. One of the main goals of the season was to offer more on-course practice than ever before. With the help of many parents, we held 23 on-course events between both teams!
During the season, we introduced a new player development program, called “Up to Par” The “Up to Par” challenge is to start close to the green (50 yards), play every hole as a par 4, and shoot 36 or under for 9 holes. The program consists of five (5) levels, with the final goal of shooting 36 or under from the Hayes (teal) tees. We are excited to watch the children have fun while learning to play better golf! The Travel Team competed in nine (9) matches over June and July Our team put together a phenomenal season, recording 7 victories, 1 tie, and 1 loss Our only loss came on the road against a much older Richland squad The team made sure to “protect our house” with a perfect home record of 6-0, which seemed to be an unofficial team goal! The growth, maturity, and improved golf was great to watch. Many of our players set new personal bests, had many “firsts” on the course, and everyone enjoyed endless Gatorade, fruit snacks, and ice cream!

Summer Camp 1, 2, and 3 were a hit with new golfers and more experienced players! Campers enjoyed physical activity stations, golf skill stations, numerous water breaks, snacks, and fun activities to end each day of camp. Camp is a great way to introduce your young golfers to the game! All of our campers have the opportunity to learn etiquette, technique, and meet new friends. The emphasis is on fun experiences at the club, not just the nuts and bolts of the swing!
The Inaugural Junior Member-Guest was contested on Saturday, July 6. All participants received multiple tee gifts, lunch before play, snacks/beverages on the golf course, and an awards dinner following play!
The Inaugural Junior Member-Guest Champions are the team of Jack Doyle (member) and Will Pinson,! Jack and Will got off to a good start during the round, making three birdies in six holes during the Team Scramble, then turned it on in the Best-ball format, with a score of 4-under for the middle six, highlighted by Jack’s eagle on hole 9! The final six holes of the event was Alternate Shot, and the Doyle/Pinson team shot 2-under, for a 9-under gross score. To view BCC tournament results, download/visit the Golf Genius app and log-in with the GGID: BCC24. Once you access the directory, you can scroll through or search to find the event you seek!
Thank You!
The junior golf coaching staff (Skyler, Matt, Mike, and myself) would like to thank all participants, parents, and the entire BCC staff, for their support and dedication to our junior golf program! We would also like to thank all members for your understanding as we blocked several afternoons so we could get out on the course with the kids. We believe on-course play time is crucial to the development of our youngest players, and many clubs/courses do not support that effort like the BCC membership does!

For full-field results, visit the Golf Genius app and use GGID: BCC24 The Men’s and Women’s Club Championship will be held Friday through Sunday, August 23-25
Men’s/Women’s Club Championship Details:

Men’s Championship Division competes for three days
All other men’s flights and women compete on Saturday and Sunday
Before any tournament, there are two main “scoring keys” which will help you have a leg up on the competition. These scoring keys are the book-ends of each hole; the tee shot and putting.
The “First Tee” – Most people fight nerves and anxiety when standing on the first tee. This stress usually causes a rushed/abbreviated swing, leading to a poor drive to start the round. Follow these 3 steps to conquer the first tee!
1 )Prior to the event, develop a consistent pre-shot routine that you have to think through This will help you take your mind off the result and place it on the process
2 )Develop a “go-to” shot When practicing, visualize standing on the first tee and go through your routine for each shot! Whether you play a draw or fade, know your shot shape, pick a conservative target, and go!
3.) Last, but not least, breathe! Deep breaths, in the nose and out the mouth, help keep us calm.
Between 11-30 feet, amateur golfers three-putt seven times more than professionals! Focusing on this range can save 1-2 strokes per round over your competitors!
The 50/50 make mark for amateur golfers is around 6’. Practice the following “Star Putting” drill to convert on as many short putts as possible:
On each side of a hole, place tees at 3, 4, and 5 feet from the hole.
Start at one location and try to make each putt in order of shortest to longest
Move to another location until you have made all 3 putts in a row

Dear BCC Members,

Summer is flying by, and I hope you've enjoyed your summer at the Club. We've seen some extensive hot weather, and the course has come a long way since we first re-opened. Having a new irrigation system in summers like these helps us not just in the health and playability of the course. When we get unexpected afternoon pop-up showers, we can automatically shut down the night's watering, preventing an over-watered course and saving water and electricity simultaneously. The hot, wet summer has also caused a spike in warm season grassy weeds, particularly in the native areas and edges of the course, and algae in ponds. This is very normal and something we address daily. Speaking of native fescue areas, we will be bushhogging all areas in early Fall. The goal is two-fold: to thin out the thicker grasses and allow us to seed into the thinner areas of the fescues. We expected at least a two-year approach to dialing in these areas, and overall, we are delighted with the look of these grasses. Next year, they will look even better! Another challenge is maintaining our new bunker style, particularly the grass faces. Bill Bergin allows each club to maintain them however it is the best fit, and we have heard a similar complaint about the ball not being released from the grass often enough. We have a plan that will address this complaint and maintain the integrity and look we all desire for these bunker faces. Please be patient with us as we execute this plan, as it will likely take us into dormancy this Fall when we can effectively scalp these faces down and maintain a lower height in the future. If we do that now, we will have very brown and scalped bunkers, which is not healthy heading into dormancy. We do hear you, and thank you for your patience.
Good luck to all Club Championship competitors this month, and we look forward to seeing you at the Club.
Brad Erickson
Golf Course Superintendent
Dear BCC Members,

With the end of summer fast approaching, we are looking ahead to some fun events that Chef Perry and I are planning for the fall. I wanted everyone to know to keep an eye out for these fun events coming soon to the club! On August 23rd, we are having a Sparkling Wine Tasting with multiple types of Sparkling Wine to toast to the end of summer. We will be hosting a Chef-Inspired Dinner with Tequila Pairings in September. In October, we will do a Bourbon and Cigar tasting on our back Patio outside our Turn Grill, and lastly, we will do a French Wine Dinner with Chef Perry and his famous French cuisine.
We have started to add a new element to our specials offered every evening by offering wine pairings with each dish. Chef Perry’s palate helps with these pairings so that you can see different flavor profiles. We are also introducing a couple of new bourbon and tequila options. Ask your server or bartender for the Spirits Menu and see what is new on our list.
We are so excited about the next season of BCC and about showcasing all the new things that the Food and Beverage Department is bringing to the table.
Thank you,
Allie Radcliffe Food and Beverage Manager
