Q Give us a quick description of your business

I build websites for small businesses. I walk you through the website process making it as easy and painless as possible. I create sites in WordPress and give you instructions for updating it yourself and I provide on going maintenance for those who don’t want to get involved with the nuts and bolts of their site.

Q Who are the people behind your business and define each of your roles/ or if it’s just yourself tell us about your role

I work alone because I love the direct contact I have with my clients. I enjoy building relationships that will last and I have several clients for whom I have re done their websites as their businesses have grown over time.

Q Where are you based?

I’m based in Cork but have clients in other parts of Ireland, the UK, Spain and around the U.S. Most of my work is conducted by Zoom calls and emails and I have many clients whom I’ve never met in person but we have built solid working relationships regardless of proximity.

Q How long have you been involved in this work?

I been building websites for over 15 years Over time I’ve refined what I do and have learned a lot of new skills. Now I can pick and choose who to work with and I love the diversity of businesses among my clientele.

Q Tell us about your offerings.

I build simple small business sites, e commerce sites and booking systems. The following is a list of industries I’ve worked with which is constantly evolving:

hospitality music trades retail health & wellness business services home & garden beauty & personal services

I also offer on going maintenance as referenced above. This involves daily monitoring of your site should you have any issues and I provide monthly reports showing traffic to the site. Many business owners think once their site is built they don’t have to do any more with it but that couldn’t be further from the truth. In these days of cyber security issues it’s critical to keep an eye on your site and to have adequate security protecting it. I monitor my clients’ sites and have alerts set up in case a site goes offline.

Simple, small brochure websites start at 1,800 euros and can increase, depending on requirements E commerce websites usually involve a lot more time

and resources to get right, which is why they start from around 3,000 euros.

Q -What do you consider to be one of your works best features what are you proud of?

According to client testimonials, my hands on approach and responsiveness to my clients are the best features of my business. I am most proud of the repeat business I get from my clients and that all my work comes from referrals or networking.

Highlights for me have been the appreciation I receive from clients when they’re happy with their site. I received a thank you note from a client in December who thanked me for being me. That meant a lot.

Q What is the biggest challenge to your business since #Covid19?

Time If I could have cloned myself three times over I might still not have had enough time to satisfy all the requests that came my way since Covid19 began. I didn’t like having to turn people away. I’m not complaining. My business grew 20% over the past two years.

When contemplating a new website for your business, especially start ups, talk to your web designer early on and share your ideas. You can save yourself time and money. Don’t underestimate the time it takes to create a website Allow six to eight weeks minimum once work begins and if you want to be website ready within that timeframe, be ready to meet your deadlines for forwarding the required information as and when it is needed by the developer. Clients often bounce ideas off me that aren’t even website related so I become an integral part of their team. Your web designer may well be able to refer you to graphic designers and copywriters so don’t be shy about asking I’m creating great working relationships with graphic designers and writers for that very purpose Give your web designer as much information about your business as is relevant and keep them informed of changes. A client wondered why they weren’t getting emails and was ready to get rid of their website because it wasn’t doing what they wanted until it transpired that they had changed their email address and not informed me so that I could update their website

Q -Any new ideas in the pipeline?

Funnily enough, the new ideas are to find more of a work/life balance! I enjoy my work immensely but don’t want it to consume me. I have so many clients bringing work for this year that I am booked up until May already.

Q Anything else you’d like to add?

I am always available to have a chat with someone who is contemplating starting a website, especially start ups. Even if they don’t work with me it can be beneficial to have a chat.

Q How does Blarney Chamber membership help you/what do you like most about your local chamber?

The Blarney Chamber has provided a rich bank of advisors, support and referrals over the nine years I’ve been a member. I enjoy being a part of the community they offer and have formed some very strong friendships from people I’ve met there not to mention the ongoing business referrals. They’ve helped me to grow as a person and a business. I'm honoured to have been elected as Secretary this year. It’s important to get involved in some form of networking, not just for the business referrals but also for connection on a deeper level. I find that you get what you give and consistency is key.

TaxAssist Accountants Blackpool, a local business run by Terry O’Donovan, opened in 2021. Terry is the managing director and looks after the day to day client portfolios, meeting with them, discussing their needs and completing all accountancy and tax matters. Working with me is Miriam O’Donovan who joined at the start of 2022. Miriam is the office manager and is the first point of contact with prospective clients in the local office. Miriam also looks after all the admin side of the business.

If setting up a new business, speak with an accountant at the beginning and have them involved from the start. It will help things run smoother in the long run After this focus on your core business offering and leave your accountant look after the financial side of the business Finally, file your tax returns as early as you can. Don’t leave it to the last minute.

Membership has put me in touch with many likeminded people who took the plunge and opened their own business. Our biggest challenge during Covid was entering houses and properties safely, both for our clients benefit and our own, but with simple planning and working in separate areas, sanitising, and wearing masks we have got through it safely so far.

Neutral colours are great for giving the effect of a bigger space which is great if you have a room or area with not much natural light, but if you have the space and enough natural light don’t be afraid to use darker bold colours like Greens, Blues, Greys, Browns etc. They can completely transform a room. Or why not try use them as a magnificent feature wall!

A JGD Safety is a Health and Safety focused company. We meet many businesses and their needs in the workplace in relation to Health & Safety. Q Who is the face behind your business?

A - JGD Safety consists of myself, James Davis, I set this company up in September 2020 after seeing a gap in the market and decided to use the qualifications I had gained. I am the CEO, the admin, the quality checker and the client liaison! As people with small businesses are aware, we put our heart and soul into our work.

A Though based in Blarney, my work has taken me both local and throughout Ireland including Limerick, Dublin & Offaly. Due to restrictions over the last two years, safety training classes have been conducted online for a number of clients.

A SBG Cork City is a family based, full time Martial Arts & Fitness Centre based in the Northpoint Business Park Blackpool, with opening hours from 6am through to 9.30pm daily, catering for kids from the age of 3yrs to adults. We are proud to boast of having one of the biggest Martial Arts gyms in the country. We run lots of world renowned programmes, such as:

Growing Gorillas for kids from 3yrs 17yrs

Train Alta - a 20-week program which takes contestants from couch to cage, Training for Warriors the complete fitness program. We provide access to local, national, and international competition across all disciplines.

Q Who are the people behind your business and define each of your roles?

A SBG Cork is run by myself, my brother Liam og and the great support of my other half James White.

I myself am co director and gym manager, and look after all the day to day running of the gym, like timetable, membership, facility, clients, and am fondly referred to as the Gym Momma.

Liam Og is co director and Head Coach and is the driving force behind our hugely successful fight team

Q How long have you been involved in this work?

A I have been involved in Traditional Martial Arts since the age of 6yrs and my passion has evolved over the years, to now being so involved in MMA. I I am not going to tell you how long that is I don't want to give away my age!!

A We offer a friendly, safe and welcoming environment in a top class facility where people can achieve their goals and celebrate and support each other's achievements One Tribe, One Vibe!

Q What do you consider to be one of your works best features what are you proud of?

A I am very proud of many of our achievements, from creating world champions to supporting a local girl to walk. I am proud of our role & work in the national MMA Organisation in developing it to be the fastest growing sport in Ireland and world.

Q Any funny anecdotes?

A Our commitment to achieving what we have today comes with lots of funny anecdotes!

To raise the money for our rent in the early days, people entering our gym could not be blamed for trying to figure us out as the reception was a mix of selling clothes, jewellery, and even Polish satellite tv ... and by the way we have martial arts and fitness also!

Q Any Highlights?

A Thankfully, we have many highlights. The main one is the amazing reputation and recognition me and Liam and SBG Cork have achieved not just locally but also both nationally and internationally in our sport.

Q What was the biggest challenge to your business since #Covid19?

A Covid has been a huge challenge our gym just like every other business in the world, but it's behind us now and we have survived to tell the tale, so onwards and upwards!

Q Any advice for Joe Public?

A For those thinking of taking up our sport, why not make an appointment to have a look around our gym and have a chat about what we have available here be it to get fit or take up a new hobby Find something you enjoy doing and the results will come!

A Our staff are key to our business, our engineers and Duty Managers are very diligant in everything they do and without good staff you can’t give a good service to your clients.

Q Any funny anecdotes?

A One of our engineers was crawling through an actic space to run cables for a CCTV system and got stuck so another engineer had to go and go and pull him out by his legs, we won’t mention that it was Colm who got stuck!!

A Being awarded various awards from Little Island Business Association to Business Cork and others. It’s a great achievement for the company.

Q What is the biggest challenge to your business since #Covid19?

A We were fortunate to be one of the businesses that grew through covid as unfortunately, a lot of premises closed and needed 24/7 security protection

A If you have an intruder alarm at Home it is essential to have it serviced regularly to ensure that it is working at all times. Security lighting is a great deterrent for would be burglars.

I am based in Blarney since 2018 and specialise in vegetarian & baked goods for collection.

I cater for small scale private functions.

Q Who are the people behind your business?

A - I am the Corrinne in Corrinne’s Kitchen, so everything stops with me! I have you been involved in this work for over a decade now. Cooking is my passion and I try to embody that in my food : )

My South African heritage is an influence when creating unique and exclusive menus. I use quality ingredients and try to focus on artisan, Irish produce. All food is handmade from scratch, and I grow my own edible flowers and herbs which I use in my produce.

I am working on an Autumnal Food Interactive Workshop watch this space I am working on a proposal for offering private, bespoke cooking lessons in the comfort of your home this could be something fun for couples to do as a date night or simply for a ladies’ night get together or something similar.

Although busy, business has changed. I concentrated more on the mentoring side, helping start up businesses to get business plans done etc and discovered how much I enjoy teaching and sharing my experience I am looking forward to times when I can start the food event side of the business at least to a limited capacity as the new side is just too exciting to stop.
