Cada año, en el mes de julio, Santiago de Cuba se convierte en el epicentro de la cultura caribeña. Es la Fiesta del Fuego, celebración multitudinaria del Caribe, su arte, identidad, tradiciones e historia.

La edición 42 de la cita llega del 3 al 9 de julio colmando la hermosa ciudad de esa auténtica energía que hermana a los pueblos de la región. Esta vez, está dedicada a las celebraciones mexicanas de la vida y la muerte, un reconocimiento a la diversidad cultural, espiritualidad, tradiciones y la cultura material que distinguen a México y sus festividades. Resulta entonces, la suerte de adentrarse en la singularidad de estos festejos, sentir su magia, abrazar su historia y aprender de ritos y creencias ancestrales.

Every year in July, Santiago de Cuba becomes the epicenter of Caribbean culture. It is the Fiesta del Fuego, a massive celebration of the Caribbean, its art, identity, traditions and history. The 42nd edition of the event takes place from July 3rd to 9th, filling the beautiful city with the authentic energy that unites the people of the region. This time, it is dedicated to the Mexican celebrations of life and death, a recognition of the cultural diversity, spirituality, traditions and material culture that distinguish Mexico and its festivities. It is therefore a chance to delve into the uniqueness of these celebrations, feel their magic, embrace their history and learn about ancestral rites and beliefs.

El Festival del Caribe acoge un programa tan diverso como fascinante. El arte en la multiplicidad de sus manifestaciones llegará a cada rincón de la tierra caliente. Más de una veintena de escenarios en plazas y otras áreas del enclave serán sitio de memorables presentaciones. Un evento que promete jornadas llenas de ritmos, música alegre y contagiosa a partir de conciertos y la arrolladora conga santiaguera atrayendo, agrupando, poniendo a todos a bailar.

The Caribbean Festival hosts a program as diverse as it is fascinating. Art in the multiplicity of its manifestations will reach every corner of the hot land. More than twenty stages in squares and other areas of the enclave will be the site of memorable presentations. An event that promises days full of rhythms, joyful and contagious music from concerts and the famous conga santiaguera attracting, grouping, putting everyone to dance.

Los amantes del séptimo arte encontrarán en la Muestra de Cine Caribeño la oportunidad de disfrutar de producciones asociadas a la presencia de la muerte en el cine de la región. De igual forma, el evento propone otros espacios artísticos como el Encuentro Internacional de Tatuaje y Perforación, el Taller de Teatro Popular, el Taller de Danza y Percusión y el Encuentro de jóvenes creadores Almas Nuevas. Sin dudas, una cofradía de expresiones con puro sabor caribeño.

Como en cada entrega, investigación y academia se integran al itinerario, propiciando diálogos e intercambio de conocimientos que enriquecen la mente y el alma. Este año se distingue con la realización del III Congreso Mundial sobre la Muerte que propone profundizar en el tema desde una mirada multidisciplinar, a partir de estudios mexicanos y la participación de especialistas de otras naciones. Asimismo, tendrán lugar encuentros especializados como el Taller de Oralidad, el de Estudios Literarios, Arqueología del Caribe y el Taller Internacional de Religiosidad Popular.

Lovers of the seventh art will find in the Caribbean Film Festival the opportunity to enjoy productions associated with the presence of death in the region's cinema. Likewise, the event offers other artistic spaces such as the International Tattoo and Piercing Encounter, the Popular Theater Workshop, the Dance and Percussion Workshop and the New Souls Encounter of young creators. Undoubtedly, a symphony of expressions with pure Caribbean flavor.

As in each edition, research and academia are integrated into the itinerary, promoting dialogue and exchange of knowledge that enrich the mind and soul. This year is distinguished by the III World Congress on Death, which proposes to delve into the subject from a multidisciplinary perspective, based on Mexican studies and the participation of specialists from other nations. Specialized meetings will also be held, such as the Orality Workshop, the Literary Studies Workshop, Caribbean Archeology and the International Workshop on Popular Religiosity.

No faltarán los espacios tradicionales del popular evento. El Desfile de la Serpiente, rítmico y multicolor, regresa para hacer gala de la diversidad cultural y congregar al gentío jubiloso que siempre lo disfruta, así como el Desfile del Fuego que estremece las calles santiagueras. Para despedir el encuentro se realiza la legendaria Quema del Diablo, uno de los momentos más emocionantes de la fiesta, con los vítores alejando el mal y abrazando buenos augurios, mientras el icónico gran diablo arde rodeado de la multitud.

There will also be the traditional spaces of the popular event. The Serpent Parade, rhythmic and multicolored, returns to show the cultural diversity and gather the jubilant crowd that always enjoys it, as well as the Fire Parade that shakes the streets of Santiago. To bid farewell to the gathering, the legendary Burning of the Devil takes place, one of the most exciting moments of the festival, with the cheers chasing away evil and embracing good omens, while the iconic great devil burns surrounded by the crowd.

Vivir la Fiesta del Fuego es la emoción inigualable que produce conectar con la esencia del Caribe y la cultura popular. Es dejarse llevar inevitablemente por los ritmos, disfrutar del arte, el colorido y los saberes. Significa estrechar lazos, salvaguardar las raíces, disfrutar de un Santiago lleno de encantos y alegrar el alma. Es también, en su cuadragésimo segunda edición, la dicha de sentir y vivir todo México desde la más caribeña de las ciudades cubanas

Experiencing the Fiesta del Fuego is the incomparable emotion of connecting with the essence of the Caribbean and the popular culture. It is to let yourself be inevitably carried away by the rhythms, to enjoy the art, the color and the knowledge. It means strengthening ties, safeguarding the roots, enjoying a Santiago full of charms and rejoicing the soul. Furthermore, it is in its forty-second edition, the joy of feeling and living all of Mexico from the most Caribbean of Cuban cities.
