A 110 años de su natalicio, al poeta y cantautor se le homenajea de la única forma posible para alguien como él: a través de la música. Bajo la producción musical de Michel Herrera, reconocido saxofonista, artistas de varias generaciones se reúnen en un mismo álbum para rendir tributo al pianista y compositor guanabacoense. El disco contará con ocho sencillos de su autoría, grabados casi en su totalidad en formato de banda de jazz. Bola de Nieve nació el 11 de septiembre de 1911, en el capitalino municipio de Guanabacoa, lugar de nacimiento de grandes de la música cubana como Ernesto Lecuona y Rita Montaner. Desde joven tocaba el piano en las tandas de películas silentes del cine Carral y la cultura musical de una región tan rica en historia como Guanabacoa definiría el sello único que lo llevó a convertirse en uno de los artistas cubanos más conocidos. El irrepetible Bola de Nieve, apodo que se dice recibió de la grande Rita Montaner, nunca se consideró un cantante sino que se reconocía a sí mismo como un intérprete más original de la canción hablada. Sin embargo, sus canciones han sobrevivido al paso del tiempo y han ganado una valía internacional innegable. Su encanto, la frescura de sus letras y esa honestidad criolla que destilaba lo llevaron a interpretar en escenarios de Europa del Este, México, Chile y Argentina, y se presentó en el Teatro Lara, el Carnegie Hall y el Café Society de Filadelfia con Paul Robeson. Su música se considera como pura esencia de cubanía y en sus palabras encontraban voz tanto el abuelo negro como el blanco, en esa mezcla cultural tan enigmática que caracteriza a los cubanos.

Su homenaje en forma de disco se graba en los estudios Abdala, bajo el sello de la Empresa de Grabaciones y Ediciones Musicales (EGREM). A temas como No puedo ser feliz, No dejes que te olvide, Alma Mía y Vete de mí darán voz cantantes de la talla de Luna Manzanares, Beatriz Márquez y Polito Ibañez. Se les unen los talentos de Frank Fernández, Chucho Valdés, Aldo López Gavilán, Roberto Fonseca, Yazek Manzano y, como invitado especial, Arturo O´Farril. El lanzamiento de este álbum homenaje coincide con el aniversario 35 de la Asociación Hermanos Saíz (AHS), que ofrece una beca con el nombre de Ignacio Jacinto Villa. En la voz irrepetible de Bola de Nieve escuchamos canciones icónicas como La vida en Rosa y Messié Julián. Ante él nos asombramos por la alegría de su piano, su sonrisa inmensa y su voz ronca que parece acunar a quien lo escucha. Este álbum es un homenaje más que merecido a una de las voces cubanas que marcaron para siempre el panorama cultural de una isla en la que la música es una forma de vida.

Ignacio Jacinto Villa, the very Cuban Bola de Nieve (Snowball), is one of those unforgettable musicians who mark an entire generation and leave their lasting mark on the culture of a country. A 110 years after his birth, the poet and singersongwriter is being honored in the only way possible for someone like him: through music. Under the musical production of Michel Herrera, renowned saxophonist, artists from several generations come together in a single album to pay tribute to the pianist and composer from Guanabacoa. The album will feature eight singles of his authorship, recorded almost entirely in jazz band format. Bola de Nieve was born on September 11th, 1911, in the capital city municipality of Guanabacoa, birthplace of great artists of the Cuban music such as Ernesto Lecuona and Rita Montaner. From a young age, he played the piano in the silent movies screening at the Carral movie theater and the musical culture of a region as rich in history as Guanabacoa would define the unique seal that led him to become one of the most famous Cuban artists. The unrepeatable Bola de Nieve, a nickname it is said to have received from the great Rita Montaner, never considered himself a singer, but a more original interpreter of the spoken song. However, his songs have survived the passage of time and have gained an undeniable international value. His charm, the freshness of his lyrics and that Cuban honesty he exuded led him to perform on many stages in Eastern Europe, Mexico, Chile and Argentina, and he performed at the Lara Theater, Carnegie Hall and the Café Society in Philadelphia with Paul Robeson. His music is considered as pure essence of his Cuban identity, and in his words both the black and the white grandfather found a voice, in that enigmatic cultural mix that characterizes all Cubans. His tribute in the form of an album was recorded at Abdala Studios, under the label of Empresa de Grabaciones y Ediciones Musicales (EGREM). Singers of the stature of Luna Manzanares, Beatriz Márquez and Polito Ibañez will give voice to songs such as No puedo ser feliz, No dejes que te olvide, Alma Mía and Vete de mí. They are joined by the talents of Frank Fernández, Chucho Valdés, Aldo López Gavilán, Roberto Fonseca, Yazek Manzano and, as special guest, Arturo O'Farril. The release of this tribute album coincides with the 35th anniversary of the Asociación Hermanos Saíz (AHS), which is offering a scholarship named after Ignacio Jacinto Villa. In the unrepeatable voice of Bola de Nieve we hear iconic songs such as La vida en Rosa and Messié Julián. Before him we are amazed by the joy of his piano, his immense smile and his husky voice that seems to cradle the listener. This album is a well deserved tribute to one of the Cuban voices that forever marked the cultural scene of an island where music is a way of life.
