Aww… love! It’s in the air, on every technical device, shelves are filled with boxes of candy tempting you to take to a sweetheart, and cards written by modern poets beg to be delivered to waiting loved ones. The color pink, in all its different hues, is everywhere, and in every shop window. I think the word for all this hullabaloo is commercialism. For those of you in my age group, remember the movie Casablanca? The endearing words of the theme song have lasted through generations. “The world will always welcome

lovers as time goes by…” Now, that is a song that stays in your mind forever! I’ve watched that beloved movie at least fourteen times and each time I want to change the ending. I can’t help myself, I’m a hopeless romantic! So let’s slow down and take a few moments to contemplate what love is and what it means to us individually. Looking at the big picture, the emotional response we call “love” keeps us from doing evil things to one another. True love is filled with feelings of compassion, devotion, the need to protect and serve, and an endless desire to please the object of our affection.
