for the Ignatian year was To See All Things New in Christ. Like St. Ignatius, we too are called to this type of continuous conversion. It is a conversion that daily opens our eyes to the presence of Jesus Christ around us. There is not a single moment, not a single experience, that escapes the presence of the Son. It is only when we are open to this reality that we can truly find purpose and joy. To see all things new in Christ means we become more aware of how much God loves us and loves the world He so graciously created. It also means we become more aware of the evil man produces, but inspires us to be the necessary and effective change to defeat it. This is where a Catholic education, seeped in the rich spirituality of St. Ignatius of Loyola, can make the greatest impact. Its purpose is to help open the eyes of its students, create for them opportunities to encounter Jesus Christ, and transform their hearts. In April of 1979, St. Pope John Paul II addressed these words to the National Catholic Educational Association of the United States on the occasion of their annual assembly, “In order that the Catholic school and Catholic teachers may truly make their irreplaceable contribution to the Church and to the world, the goal of Catholic education itself must be crystal clear. Beloved sons and daughters of the Catholic Church, brothers and sisters in the faith: Catholic education is above all a question of communicating Christ, of helping to form Christ in the lives of others.”

With this in mind, the contents of this document help build on what Belen Jesuit has been working so hard to do for over 167 years. Grateful for the fruits of the last strategic plan (2017), it was time to review, rework, and reimagine what Belen could do more and better. With the help of various and varied members of the school community, this roadmap for the future took shape. Built on five pillars, this plan restates clearly the goal and defines the means to achieve it because even Belen recognizes that the greatest archer in the world cannot hit a target he does not see or even have (Zig Ziglar).

PRESIDENT I n June of 2021, Fr. Arturo Sosa, S.J., Superior General of the Society of Jesus, declared an Ignatian Year to celebrate the quincentenary of the conversion of St. Ignatius of Loyola. This watershed moment in the life of the soldier saint had an impact that went far beyond one man’s change of heart. Although the wartime wound that derailed the militaristic aspirations of Ignatius marked the beginning, the rest of his life, until the very moment of his death, was a time of conversion. This change of heart eventually produced the Spiritual Exercises, founded the Society of Jesus, erected thousands of centers of education, enflamed missionary activity around the globe, and, ultimately, transformed the Theworld.theme
