Teach me to be generous, Teach me to serve you as you deserve,
To give and not to count the cost,
To fight and not to heed the wounds,
To toil and not to seek for rest,
To labor and not to ask for reward,
Save that of knowing that I do your will.

Dear Students, Families, Faculty, and Honored Guests,
It is with great pride and enthusiasm that I welcome you to our Annual Athletic Awards Ceremony. Tonight, we come together as a school community to celebrate the dedication, resilience, and sportsmanship of our outstanding student-athletes.
Since the time of our founder St. Ignatius of Loyola to the present at Belen Jesuit, athletics play a vital role in shaping not only strong competitors but also responsible leaders, committed teammates, and wellrounded individuals. As powerfully as any other activity our students are involved in, the arena of sports provides an extraordinary opportunity to fulfill our motto of forming “men for others.” Our athletes have demonstrated exceptional character both on and off the field, representing our school with honor, spirit, and determination.
This ceremony is more than a recognition of records and victories; it is a celebration of commitment. Behind every achievement are countless hours of practice, perseverance through setbacks, and the unwavering support of families, coaches, teachers, and peers. Tonight, we applaud all those efforts and sacrifices that make success possible.
In addition, we gather tonight to celebrate our faith. It is a faith that sustains us and gives us the courage and strength to press on no matter what the circumstances. It is faith in ourselves, each other, and, most importantly, in God. At no time was our faith more tested than when this year we lost our brother and fellow athlete Lucas Osuna ’27. Both in the classroom and in the pool, Lucas was a true Belen man, a true friend, and a true brother. While his passing stung more profoundly than any loss on the field, it was our faith that has helped us move forward never forgetting his place in our lives. It is why his water polo cap with the number 19 still hangs proudly on the cross of our swimming pool.
To our award recipients: you embody the values we hold dear excellence, integrity, and grit. Your achievements this season serve as an inspiration to your peers and a lasting contribution to the legacy of our athletic program. In particular we congratulate head coaches Frankie Ruiz ’96 and our cross-country team, Victor Arrieta ’95 and our track team, and Yunian Cabrera and our crew team for winning state championships. They have continued Belen’s legacy of annual state championships in various sports.
Thank you for joining us in honoring these exceptional young individuals. Let us now turn our attention to celebrating their accomplishments and the incredible journey of growth they represent.
Auspice Maria,
May 20, 2025
Dear Student-Athletes,
At the beginning of this school year, Fr. Willie introduced our theme: “Audentes fortuna iuvat” “Fortune favors the bold.” He challenged us to embrace this call to action, reminding us that greatness is not given to those who wait passively but earned by those who step forward with courage and conviction.
As student-athletes, you have taken this message to heart. Through your commitment both in the classroom and in competition, you have dared to excel not only as athletes but as young men of faith and character. Your achievements on the field, the court, the track, and in the water are the direct result of your discipline, resilience, and unwavering determination.
At Belen Jesuit, we are called to strive for excellence for the greater glory of God, not for personal recognition. True success demands sacrifice. It means putting the team first, pushing yourself beyond limits, and doing what is necessary for the collective good. A winning culture is not built on talent alone it is built on unity, selflessness, and shared purpose.
Our school takes great pride in cultivating athletic talent from sixth through twelfth grade. The dedication of our middle school athletes and their coaches not only leads to championship-caliber teams, but also lays a strong foundation for future success at the high school level. This year, our sports program once again demonstrated excellence. Middle school teams continued to dominate in both CAL and non-CAL divisions, and many of our high school teams advanced deep into the State Playoff System. Most notably, we upheld our 18-year tradition of earning at least one state championship this year thanks to our Cross Country, Track & Field, and Crew teams.
As we move forward, may God continue to bless us with the courage and grace to respond boldly to life’s challenges. May you continue to grow spiritually, physically, and mentally into the kind of leaders the world so urgently needs today: strong, compassionate, and principled young men.
God bless,
José E. Roca AMDG
Dear Belen Jesuit Family,
As we look back at the 2024-25 school year, we have been blessed again with 3 team state championships. We are thankful for the many blessings the Lord Jesus Christ has provided us. I appreciate the support from our administration and faculty for investing in the process of making “Men for Others”. The athletic administration, coaching staff, and athletic trainers for their continued service of assisting in providing first-class experience to our boys. The Belen Jesuit experience is exceptional because of you!
The 2024-25 athletic year was special. We had 15 student-athletes sign national letters of intent to play at the NCAA D1, NCAA D3, and NAIA intercollegiate levels in the sport of baseball, crew, cross country, football, Soccer, lacrosse, and track & field
Cross Country won their 8th straight state championship and 16th overall, and won the Nike NXR Southwest Regional, and a 12th place in the country at Nike NXN. Chris de Angulo ’26 won a state championship in the 100 breaststroke, Marcelo Mantecon ’27 was the cross country state champion. He also won the state title in the 3200 m and was a member of the 4 x 800 m relay state championship with Diego Magariño, Michael Brunet and Jack Michalak in Track & Field. Tiago Socarras won two state titles, one in the 1600 m, his third consecutive and the 800 m. Marcelo was also named the Florida Dairy Farmers, Florida’s Gatorade Player of the Year, and Miami Herald Runner of the Year. Swimming finished 2nd place in the region
Soccer made an appearance in the regional final, basketball finished the season with a regional semifinal berth, and cheerleading again was the glue that kept our spirit alive throughout the fall and winter season was loud and proud providing support to our programs on a consistent basis.
Track & Field won the 2025 state championship, their first since 2007. Tennis and baseball each finished with a berth in a regional final, and lacrosse was a regional quarterfinalist, while volleyball and water polo both were regional semifinalist. Crew impressively captured the overall (club and school) scholastic state sculling and sweep state championships, on way to rewarding 24-25 season. Our teams also won five academic team championships this school year.
We are very proud of the effort that our student athletes demonstrated this year! Their success comes from their investment in a team-oriented atmosphere Our athletic program continues to invest in Men who are dedicated to Growth, Intellectually Competent, Religious, Loving, and Committed to Doing Justice, but more importantly, a desire to be Christ-like here on earth to then partake in God’s glory in Heaven. “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old, he will no depart from it.”
(Prov. 22:6)
We are so blessed that you as a family chose to be a part of the Belen Jesuit family so we could all see God fulfill his will in the Boys.
In Christ,
Lazaro Fernandez, CAA Athletic Director
Varsity Cheerleading
This cheer season was truly one for the books! Our team reached new heights as we pushed past limits, mastered new stunts, and refined our routines with every practice. Along the way, we celebrated both individual and team milestones, proudly becoming one of the largest squads in Belen Cheer history.
But our greatest achievement wasn’t just in skills—it was in the bond we built. Through every challenge and triumph, we grew stronger together. We cheered the loudest, supported each other through every moment, and created memories that will last a lifetime. It was a season defined by growth, unity, and heart—and we can’t wait for what’s next!

This team was an underdog all year. Competing in one of the toughest schedules in the country. A team full of heart and determination. You could never count them out. Some of the highlights of the season were beating Catholic (LA), the defending national champions in Baton Rouge (LA), and making a historic run through the regional tournament, defeating two 25-win teams.

Team Record: 20-9
Team Recognition: District Champions, Regional Semifinalist, Ranked 8th in the State (5A), 9th in the County. Academic State Champions.
The team began the year with one simple goal, to be better than last year. Facing a tough schedule, the team finished the year with a much improved record of 20-9. The year was highlighted by a thrilling OT victory over Gulliver, finishing 3rd in the NOLA Jesuit Blue Jay Christmas Classic, and season turning victories in games against Southridge and Bishop Verot. The team however shined most when the lights were the brightest, the playoffs, upsetting Norland to win their 3rd District Championship in the last 4 years for the program before making it to the Regional Semifinal, something only a handful of teams in Belen history have accomplished. The team was led by one of the better backcourts in Dade County: Sophomore Orlando Roche, who can score from any spot on the floor, led the team averaging 17.8ppg, do it all Junior combo Guard, Alec Arnholt, finished second on the team in scoring (13ppg) and second in assists (3pg) and Senior floor leader, Point Guard Mikey Valdes led the team in assists (5.3apg - 1st in Class 5A) and rebounds (6rpg). Seniors Javi Vasseur and Max Klemick played an essential part in the team’s success with their versatility on offense and with their defensive positionality. Senior Nicholas Misiunas and Junior Adrian Diaz De Villegas manned the middle and provided great defensive energy. Senior Julio Blandon provided all-out effort and veteran presence in both the locker and weight room. Juniors Lucas Diaz, Lucas Baldor, and Sophomore Richie Blanco played important roles with their abilities to shoot and create for others. Junior Lucas Hernandez and Sophomores Felipe Ariza, Alejandro Bird-Beltran and Jeevan Navarro aided in crucial preparation, energy and team morale. This special season was a testament to the boys’ willingness to work hard, prepare and believe in achieving something TOGETHER.

First and foremost, I’d like to thank the parents for being great role models to the kids, and for always being there for moral support. The program would not be where it is today without their support. This season was another step in the right direction for the bowling program here at Belen Jesuit, with five straight state tournament appearances. The team went on to place 3rd in the MiamiDade Youth Fair Tournament, and win our third ever District championship, our first back to back. We also punched our ticket to the state championship for the 6th straight year. The kids improved so much throughout the year and I’m very excited to see what they will accomplish next year. Enrique Groso led the team on the lanes and off it; always bringing his teammates up when they were struggling, and not letting his difficulties affect the team. Brian Iglesias stepped up in his role as a senior and provided the team with motivation to help us achieve our victories this year. Alexander Lowell made drastic improvements over the summer, and he showed me that if you put in the work anything can happen. I’m very excited to see how we do next year. Thank you.

The 2024 Belen Jesuit cross country team had another remarkable season, capturing its 8th consecutive State Championship and 16th overall—the most Cross Country State Championships by any school in Florida. The team also qualified for the Nike Cross Nationals (NXN) for the third consecutive year by repeating as Nike Southeast Regional Champions. These incredible accomplishments began with summer training in June, as 20 runners spent a month in Flagstaff, Arizona, training at elevation—the hard work and dedication during those weeks paid off throughout the season.
The season was marked by major victories at several high-profile meets, including Cecil Field Summer Classic, Horse Park Invitational, Southern Showcase, Great American Invitational, New World Fall Classic, and the Junior Orange Bowl Invitational. We entered the FHSAA State Series and won our 22nd consecutive District Championship (44th overall), our 23rd consecutive Regional Championship (29th overall), and headed to Tallahassee for the State Championships. The team was led by sophomore Marcelo Mantecon, who won the individual State title. The team achieved its goal of another State Championship, with the following athletes earning First Team All-State honors: Tiago Socarras (3rd Place), Justin Ruiz (4th place), Marco Prieguez (5th Place), Armando Cruz (7th Place) and Diego Magariño (12th Place). Also running well at State was senior Michael Brunet. Coach Frankie Ruiz '96 coached his 15th State Championship team and was honored as the USTFCCA Florida and National Cross Country Coach of the Year.
After the State Meet, Belen competed in the Nike Southeast Regional Meet in Cary, North Carolina. The program showed its depth by winning the Rising Stars race (for freshmen and sophomores), led by standout performances from freshmen Nico Veloso and Jack Michalak. In the Championship race, the top seven runners, led once again by Marcelo Mantecon, dominated the field to secure a victory and a spot at the Nike Cross Nationals in Portland, Oregon. At NXN, the team capped off its season with a 12th-place national finish, and Marcelo Mantecon earned All-American honors.
We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our outstanding senior class for their leadership and dedication—you will be deeply missed. We now look ahead to the 2025 season, where a young and promising team, including members of our State Champion Middle School team, will rise to meet the challenge. #OneTeam

This was a great year for Belen Jesuit Lacrosse. We finished the year with 12 wins, 5 losses, a Fifth Straight District Championship and a 1A top 15 ranking in the state. We played several new teams this year including our Jesuit brothers of Loyola HS (Los Angeles, CA) of whom we hosted and treated to a “Taste of Miami” family meal that was incredibly well received. In addition, we travelled to New York to play our northern Jesuit friends of Fordham Prep (Bronx, NY) and Kennedy Catholic. This was a fantastic trip where both players and families were able to experience Little Italy in the Bronx, a New Jersey Devils game, a D2 Adelphi Lacrosse game, and a family-style food tour of Italy in Garden City at Vincent’s Clam Bar.
The team feels like it’s been together for a few years now and the team chemistry that has been built was shown off in full effect when we all came together to win our District Championship game. The defense was stout, the offense was comfortable and confident, and we were strong between the lines. This win was a culmination of many things but the benefits of our new weight room and Fall training program were quite prevalent as we played with more physicality and had more endurance late in games.
We would like to thank all of our seniors for all of their efforts over the last seven years. You are all integral parts of the history of Belen Lacrosse and you furthered our legacy of excellence. We are excited for the future of all our seniors but we definitely want to wish Max Cabanas and Andres Lievano good luck as they will be playing D3 lacrosse next year at Catholic University.

The 2024 season played out as expected with the swimmers continuing to rise to the challenges they set for themselves. Navigating their way through the regular season is always difficult as they learn to compete and put each other in a position to succeed. The Wolverines finish the regular season undefeated and also won the Belen Jesuit Swimming Invitational.
An FHSAA realignment of teams put the Wolverines in a new state classification and thus changed the look of the entire State Series. Immediately, we were faced with a much more difficult and challenging District Championship as Gulliver entered the mix of new teams. The Wolverines didn’t flinch and dominated the meet swimming extremely well. At Regionals, we would see the same teams and some new faces including past and soon to be State Champions. The meet went extremely well and a large number of swimmers qualified for the State Championships.
Now, the time had arrived. Our best team in years arrived in Ocala for the 2A State Championships. We knew that if we wanted to break back into the top 10, the team would have to swim lights out and we would need to outperform our seeds. After months of training, analyzing and breaking down the meet, it was time to race. The meet kicked off with the 200 Medley Relay and then it was on to the individual events. Our relays all qualified for the “A” Finals with two teams picking up big points and medals. Individually, Jose Serratos ’25, Ariel Gutierrez ’28, Ben Fanjul ’26, Alec De Angulo ’28 and Chris De Angulo ’26 qualified for Finals. All the swimmers swam extremely well but we were buoyed by Alec and Chris De Angulo.
As the Finals were winding down, it seemed as if the Wolverines were saving their best for last. A top 8 finish in the 200 Freestyle Relay, then a 4th place finish by Alec De Angulo in the 100 backstroke made way for the race of the meet. Chris De Angulo stepped up to the block as the 2nd seed. His first 50 had him in 5th place and he roared off the 2nd wall moving up to 2nd place with 25 yards to go. With a great turn, he exploded on his final lap, blowing past the field and touch 1st becoming Belen’s first swimming State Champion in 6 years. His time also broke a school record that stood for over 30 years!! The Wolverines weren’t done yet as they had the 400 Freestyle Relay which again finished with medals around the relay members necks. Alec De Angulo posted the fastest times for a Freshman across all four classifications in his two events and Chris De Angulo’s time and place earned him 1st Team All Dade honors. They will both be back next year along with many of the swimmers who competed at the state championships. This program is not done moving up. Big things are expected next year and we are excited to see what this group of young men can do next.

At the beginning of the year I give the team a Track booklet with all our history, records, schedule and motivational quotes. Included is a letter about the upcoming year, which focused on the theme "it will take a moment." A moment where you would have to decide what to do. Little did we know the moment would take 27 hours.
During the season the team was led by the elite squad of distance runners, who through their training day in and out made themselves better and more importantly made each other better. Tiago Socarras, Marcelo Mantecon, Jack Michalak, Armando Cruz, Justin Ruiz, Marco Prieguez, Diego Magariño, Michael Brunet and Nico Veloso were key in the postseason with their performances. But no team is complete without a supporting cast. Our Pole Vaulter group with John Amador, Justin Cuellar, Logan Girado and Alejandro Marin were pivotal to the team's success. The throwers with Alek Jurado, Antonio Suarez, Gregory Viejo, Jaime Saavedra, Diego Gurdian, Lucas Lowell, Joaquin Otero and Aiden Rodriguez provided valuable points throughout the season. The sprinter group led by Carlos Rodriguez-Novoa, DJ Saumell, Luis GarciaChacon, Jeffrey Brunner, Marcelo Perez, Jose Arencibia and Alejandro Alvarado made essential contributions to the hurdles, relays and sprints down the stretch.
All the work we did was in preparation for the State Championship. Our focus at the meets during the regular season was in getting better and not just stacking all events to win those meets. The seeds planted on those meets began to show fruits with the FSU Relays; this was the first time that we won the prestigious meet. From there on the team remained unbeaten by winning the Fr. Ripoll Relays, District, Regional and culminating with a State Championship. The state meet began on Friday May 9th and it would end 27 hours later on May 10th. Delay after delay the team stayed on the moment and focused on the process. This mindset proved to be the key as they performed amazing in each event. Marcelo and Tiago did what the dynamic duo had been doing all year, dominating the competition and showing who are the Kings of Distance. Stepping up their game were Diego Magariño, Michael Brunet, Marco Prieguez, Justin Ruiz and Armando Cruz with those key extra points needed to add to our total. The surprise to most and probably even himself was Jack Michalak, who in the 4x800 hunted down the leading team's third lead to take the lead and then he came back in the 800 placing third, showing the toughness and grit of a determined runner. To seal the deal the person who had to deal with the most delays was John Amador, I believe he ended up warming up three times in two days and at the end he only had one warm-up jump and was locked-in because he cleared the next height and placed 6th garnering three crucial points. This was an amazing display of team effort where everyone had a moment to decide what to do. It was a collection of these moments that made the difference. I do not believe in motivational speeches; our success comes from the trust we have in the work that we do in all we do. This gives us the confidence and courage to perform at the meets.
The credit belongs to the athletes who perform and compete, but it cannot happen without the amazing work done by our assistant coaches Carlos Jimenez, Carlos Flores, Jose Roca Jr., Jonah Hill, Juan Rodriguez and the middle school coaches led by Rebecca Michalak who lay the foundation. These people put into practice the vision of the school in forming Men for Others. As I tell the kids all the time, we can only help them go where they want to go and this is what they wanted. We are glad we had something to do in helping them reach their goal. Special recognition to Frankie Ruiz, who works with these guys in cross-country season.
Thank you to the parents and family members because without your support we would not have achieved what we did this year. This would also not have been possible without the support of our school administration and community who facilitate what we do. All the congratulatory messages from Belen people and even non-Belen people have been very humbling. Thank you for making a dream a reality.
The words Track and Field State Champions will forever be associated with you. Congrats,"We did it!"

This year brought a lot of up and downs for our team, a new group battling through the challenges of playing the 3rd most difficult strength of schedule in the state. Many lessons were brought by some tough results and some wins as well. Our group kept working and improving to be the best version of ourselves in the post season and we were able to show that. We played our best match in our regional semifinal match; which was a shoot out that was decided in 5 sets. We walked away knowing that we played like a team and the feeling throughout was what we were looking for the whole season.

While our last season's results may not fully reflect the effort, I wanted to acknowledge the incredible dedication of our core group of players. Their consistent commitment and the heart they displayed on the field made me truly proud.
I'm also encouraged that many of these players have returned this spring, bringing with them valuable experience gained from last season's challenges. Their offseason dedication in the weight room suggests they are well-prepared to make significant contributions in the upcoming season.

The Junior Varsity Lacrosse team worked hard this season. There was a vast improvement in the team’s abilities and there are many bright spots amongst the team’s rosters. This year’s team finished the season 5-3-1 and faced off with the top teams in South Florida; playing perennial powerhouses St. Andrews, St. Thomas, Benjamin, as well as St. John Paul, Gulliver, Columbus, and Cardinal Newman. Through a tougher schedule, we pushed the players to be more focused in practice, to spend more time in the weight room, and really work on their lacrosse IQ.
Highlights from this year’s team include our Defense in Agustin Arrieta, Lucas Vich, Santino De Jongh, and Sebastian Acosta; our Goalie Noah Rodriguez; our Defensive Middies Henry Brumfield, Daniel
Nicolas Aviño; and our Offense powered by Matias

This season was one of growth, grit, and great potential for our second JV volleyball team. With a mix of returning experience and rising talent, this group showed flashes of brilliance and laid the foundation for something truly special in the years to come. While we didn’t hit every milestone we had hoped for, the season was filled with important lessons, steady improvement, and moments that reminded us of what this team is capable of. Led courageously by two incredibly talented 7th grade setters, and 2 other 8th graders, this group showed maturity beyond their years and proved that leadership isn’t about age—it’s about heart, vision, and effort. Every practice was met with energy and a willingness to work hard. Whether in drills or during tough matches, this team never backed down. They fought for every point, pushed each other to be better, and kept growing together through every challenge. The progress we made this season is something to be proud of, and the potential on this team is undeniable. With their talent, work ethic, and team-first mentality, these players are building toward a bright future—one we’re excited to keep watching unfold.

What a season it’s been for our JV volleyball team! Coming into the year with a group made up almost entirely of new players, we embraced the challenge with open minds, eager hearts, and a determination to grow. From the first practice to the final point, this team exceeded expectations and grew into a cohesive, competitive force. Every match was an opportunity to learn, and the progress we made was truly incredible. Our chemistry improved, our confidence soared, and we began to play with purpose, pride, and passion. As the season went on, we didn’t just keep up with the competition—we challenged some of the top programs in Miami and held our own every step of the way.
One of our proudest moments came at the True North Volleyball Classic, where we battled through tough competition and came out with the Silver Trophy. It was a shining example of our resilience, teamwork, and belief in one another. This season was more than just volleyball—it was about building a family, discovering our potential, and laying the groundwork for future success. We are so proud of the growth, effort, and energy each player brought to the court. The future is bright, and this season is just the beginning of something special.
Freshman Baseball
The team finished the season with a 9–7 record, showing resilience and flashes of strong performance but falling short of consistent dominance. Throughout the season, they demonstrated the ability to compete with top-tier opponents, securing key wins that kept them motivated. However, their play on both sides of the ball — particularly in close games — ultimately defined their season. This season offered promise for the direction of the program and several young players emerged as future options for the varsity team.

The freshman team wrapped up the year with a hard-fought 17-win season, showing nothing but grit, growth, and a never-quit mentality. From the beginning of the season, the boys knew they would face adversity every week. While the season had its share of challenges, they showed major improvements on both ends of the court, building chemistry and resilience with every game. Not many coaches have the opportunity to move up with their team, so it was a blessing for me to coach them for two years. After our undefeated season as 8th graders, I had a serious conversation with them about what they were getting into the next year. The gap of speed and the physicality between middle school and high school is very large in basketball. Thus we joined a JV Spring league hosted at Belen and didn’t win a game. However, the goal wasn’t to win games, it was to get better playing as a group and learning the difference between middle school and high school. Because of how well the boys competed, and the positive attitudes that were presented during those losses, we as a coaching staff believed they could compete with those same teams during their freshman season. Out of the 20 games scheduled, we went 6-2 in JV games, completing the season with a 17-3 record. Key players stepped up, new talent emerged, and the foundation was laid for even bigger things ahead. Whether it was locking down on defense, executing under pressure, or bringing the energy every game, this team made it clear that they were ready for the next level.

The Belen Jesuit middle school cross country team continued in it's historic tradition, capturing the FLYRA State Championship (9th), the Dade County Youth Fair title (28th), and the All Catholic Conference crown. From the first race to the final stretch of the season, our runners showcased relentless determination, discipline, and unity. Led by the amazing group of runners Andrew Lima, Daniel Garmendia, Dominic de Armas, Jake Rubiera, Adrian Diverio, David Jaramillo, Antonio Hernandez, Joaquin Alemany, Mateo Cardenal, Michelangelo Durante, Christian Robaina, Alejandro Garcia-Chacon, and Mathias Urdaneta, each meet reflected the hard work and preparation poured into the season, as every athlete contributed to our collective success.
Inspired by our theme of being fierce and strong like a Wolverine, our team embodied the spirit of resilience and tenacity. Whether facing tough competition and challenging heat and courses, we refused to back down. This season wasn’t just about trophies—it was about building a brotherhood, pushing beyond limits, and setting a standard of excellence for years to come. The legacy of this championship season will inspire future Wolverines to race with the same passion and pride. Thank you to all the parents who travelled all over the state to help make our team better. Your dedication and commitment to the team is invaluable as we can only be successful with your help.

Gold Team Summary:
The Middle School Gold team truly came together this year. We finished the season 4-24 and had some serious battles on the field. Most of the games were decided by 1 goal so this team played in high-pressure games and succeeded when faced with a challenge. Many players stepped up their game on and off the field and thrived at the opportunity to showcase the skills they have been working on. It was a fun season, and we look forward to taking the field as a team next year! This year’s offense was led by Michael Gonzalez, AJ Garcia, Paco Fernandez, Luca Fernandez, and Connery Bligh. The midfield was controlled by Nicolas Coto, Christian Jurado, and Ian Chaluja. The boom was brought by defensemen Oliver Vazquez, Eric Del Pino, Lucas Cordero, Joaquin Garcia, and by Josh Serra in the pipes.
Blue Team Summary:
This team is a success story to write books about. 50 players were on the blue team this year and the team finished with a 6-3-2 record. This team was made up of 85% of players who were brand new to lacrosse. So their ability to learn the rules and gain the skills required to play a new sport must be commended. It was an exciting season and the game that will be remembered most was the first game against Keys Panthers. The boys were nervous and had no idea of what a game of lacrosse looked like, but they flew around the field, passing, catching, and scoring non-stop. They won in their first game, and we could tell that they had caught the lacrosse bug and were hooked on the sport for the rest of the season. We hope to see you all again next year!
Some of our top players this year were: Connery Bligh, Nico Jurado, Joaquin Garcia, Emiliano Corona, Daniel Garmendia, Aurelio Pinilla, Eduardo Penna Moreira, and Liam Ceide.

It was a very good season despite having a difficult start. From the tryouts, we received many players with great talent, and it was difficult to select both teams. We tried to make them both competitive. We won many games, but we also lost and learned from those defeats, improving match by match.
This was a longer season compared to previous years, which gave us the opportunity to train more and get to know each other better. Every player had the chance to showcase their talents and contribute to the team. A true brotherhood was formed both on and off the field, even though there were occasional moments of indiscipline and lack of sportsmanship—especially in victory. These moments reminded us of the importance of humility and respect, and of the need to keep learning from defeats.
Our motto throughout the season was God is good. Before and after every match, we prayed together to thank God for the opportunity to do what we love most—play soccer. This spirit of gratitude kept us grounded and united as a team.
Throughout the season, the team showed steady growth, and we played with joy and responsibility, knowing that we can still improve in every aspect. Our efforts and commitment led us to a record of 11 wins, 3 losses, and 1 tie, and to becoming champions of the ACC tournaments.
The future of Belen is bright—as long as we continue to correct our mistakes and compete not only to win, but to pursue excellence within the demands of the most popular and beautiful sport in the world. Always putting God first, we end this season having grown in Humility, Ambition, and Attitude: the true marks of a championship team.

This year's team continued the strong tradition of our program by training hard and consistently demonstrating great sportsmanship. More importantly, they supported one another like brothers, always encouraging, pushing, and celebrating together through the ups and downs. The season started later than usual, but the team didn’t miss a beat, opening their season with a win at the All Catholic Invitational. They continued their dominance by going undefeated in the Catholic Athletic League and were crowned ACC Champions. The postseason continued for several athletes who qualified for the FLYRA State Championship. Despite the flu affecting the team, they persisted. Aaron Johnson led the way, placing 3rd in the 200m hurdles and 4th in the 100m hurdles. Magdiel Cortez also contributed by placing 8th in the 200m hurdles. Overall, they had fun, gave their best, and represented our school with class. We’re proud of everything they accomplished this season, and we know the experience and bonds they built will carry them far, on and off the track.

Gold Team Season Summary
This season has been one to remember for our Middle School Gold Volleyball Team — a team made up mostly of 8th graders who not only played with heart but truly embodied what it means to be a team. From the very first day of tryouts, it was clear this group was going to be special. They showed up every day with focus, drive, and a love for the game that made coaching them not just rewarding — but an absolute joy. Over the course of the season, they went undefeated with a perfect 14-0 record only dropped two sets all season long, which speaks volumes about their consistency and competitive spirit.
They went on to win the ACC Championship Tournament — a moment that was the culmination of months of effort, long practices, and a bond that grew stronger with each match. To make this season all that more impressive, I have four of these young men, two eighth graders and two seventh graders play for me on JV this season, which speaks volumes to their talent and love for the sport. Thank you boys for a very fun and memorable season.
Blue Team Season Summary
The team displayed resilience and determination throughout the season. They approached each match with effort, discipline, and a strong team spirit. Despite challenges, they remained focused and committed, improving with every game. Their growth and teamwork made the season a memorable one.

The Belen Jesuit 6th Grade cross country team had an unforgettable season, finishing undefeated and showcasing extraordinary determination, discipline, and unity. From the first race to the last, the young Wolverines ran with heart, often pulling ahead early and never looking back. Each runner contributed to the team’s success, whether by scoring points, pushing a teammate in practice, or cheering from the sidelines. Their relentless work ethic and brotherhood turned potential into performance, making every meet a testament to their growth and grit.
The team leaned on their faith and each other through the hot afternoon runs, tough workouts, and the pressure of competition. Their trust in the process— and in one another—carried them across each finish line with strength and pride. The team was led by Jake Rubiera, Jacob Jasinski, Vittorio Stasi, Sebastian de Oliveira, Jose Sosa, Tommaso Stasi, Luca de la Calle, Raj Chanda who at one point or another were in the top 7 in a race. As they celebrated their undefeated record, it wasn’t just the medals that mattered, but the lessons learned, the bonds formed, and the journey taken together under the Belen tradition of excellence.
Thank you to all the parents for all their support and commitment to the team during the season. Special recognition to Aiden Cruz who despite being injured most of the season was a valuable asset during all the meets as a second coach. Stay fierce and strong Wolverines.

We couldn’t be prouder of this team — every single player gave their heart, learned the game, and showed incredible growth from the first day of practice to our final game. Many of these kids were new to football, but you’d never know it by how they came together, supported one another, and fought every snap. The progress we saw, in skills, character and teamwork, was a result of their dedication all season. Their first season is just the beginning — their future, both in football and in life, is bright, and I can’t wait to see what they achieve next.
The coaches discussed how to hand out awards for the season, and it was not an easy choice as there are so many deserving. We had a lot of special plays in the season: Dom, Joaquin, Shiam, McDowell, Louis giving us solid O-line play; Lucas Salas breaking the Ransom game open with an 80 yard run, that happened in part because of a great downfield block by his teammate Blake Seits. Mason always leading our team with hardnose football and being our pregame hype man; Jimmy Hogan and Liam handling linebacker duties; and finally, Wendelken with the long TD catch and run and Tony Suarez closing out our season with his interception against Gulliver.
These are just some of the names that come to mind. More than anything this team and class of 2031 really came together as teammates on the field and brothers off of it.

Our 6th grade track team went undefeated this year, winning every meet with a combination of talent and heart. From the first practice to the final race, this group showed what can be accomplished through focus and hard work. Whether it was on the track, during relays, or cheering each other on from the sidelines, these athletes supported one another every step of the way. Leading the team was Jake Rubiera, who didn’t lose a single event all season. He was also the only 6th grader to represent the team at the state meet, competing in both the 4x800 relay and the 1500m.
Ultimately, every member of the team contributed to this season’s success. Across the board, we saw tremendous growth by the end of the season, with many athletes achieving personal bests on the field and on the track. This team has laid a strong foundation for the future, and we look forward to seeing what they accomplish next year.
