AGRONOMY

Greens

This past month, our maintenance team successfully completed aeration across all playing surfaces greens, tees, and fairways. This important seasonal practice ensures the long-term health, playability, and consistency of the course.

Verti-Cutting

We began with a light topdressing of sand, followed by aeration, dragging, rolling, and verti-cutting. These steps relieve soil compaction, promote oxygen exchange, and improve root development. Afterward, a second light layer of sand was brushed in and watered, helping the surface settle and smooth out quickly Aeration on greens using the ProCore unit to relieve compaction and improve air movement. xcess thatch helps face refine putting surfaces and improve turf density.

Verti-cutting was performed to remove excess thatch and encourage upright turf growth. This helps improve ball roll and overall putting surface consistency. Verti-cutting in progress to refine putting surfaces and improve turf density

Dragging and Rolling

After aeration, we used a Greens Groomer to drag sand into the aeration holes and followed with rolling. This process smooths the surface and accelerates recovery time. Dragging topdressing sand into the greens for a smooth and uniform surface

AGRONOMY

Tees and Fairways

Tees were aerated and topdressed to enhance turf strength and water infiltration Fairways also received aeration, dragging, and debris cleanup to promote long-term health and playability. When we verti-cut the tees later this fall, we’ll also overseed to improve turf density heading into next season.

Why Aeration Matters

Although aeration temporarily affects play, it provides lasting benefits improving firmness, root strength, and turf quality. As the turf recovers, golfers will notice smoother, more consistent conditions across the course.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we complete this vital work, and we thank you for your continued support throughout the season

SPORTS

Happy November from the MSC!

The MSC continues to be well attended with gym and fitness classes. We love our members who stop by even just to get coffee or tea!

I had a person ask how to stay motivated as we enter November. I use a 30 day calendar and try to do at least one different workout each week. Add a yoga class, or a tai chi class. If you have not focused on strength training now is a great time to do that right before the holidays. Here are a few tips for success:

1.Incorporate Variety: Mix different types of workouts to keep things interesting Include cardio, strength training, and flexibility exercises to create a well-rounded fitness routine.

2.Set Goals: Establish specific fitness goals for November, such as increasing your endurance, improving your strength, or simply staying active during the holiday season.

3.Stay Consistent: Keep a calendar or use your fitness apps to stay consistent. This will help you stay on track. Most importantly, keep hydrated!

Be on the look out for a special Thanksgiving Day class with Heidi. The MSC will be open on Thanksgiving 7am to 12 pm.

CRANBERRY CORNMEAL DRESSING

We at the MSC wish you and your families the happiest of Thanksgiving and I had to include one of my favorite healthier options for the big dinner. You can always drop the sodium with no sodium broth or low sodium sausages.

INGREDIENTS

3 cups reduced-sodium chicken broth, divided

1/2 cup yellow cornmeal

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon white pepper

1/2 pound Italian turkey sausage links, casings removed

1 large onion, diced

1 large fennel bulb, diced (about 1 cup)

1 garlic clove, minced

1 large egg yolk, beaten

4 cups soft French or Italian bread crumbs

3/4 cup dried cranberries

2 tablespoons minced fresh parsley

1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar

1 teaspoon minced fresh sage

1 teaspoon minced fresh savory

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

DIRECTIONS

1.In a small bowl, whisk 1 cup broth, cornmeal, salt and pepper until smooth. In a large saucepan, bring remaining 2 cups broth to a boil. Add cornmeal mixture, stirring constantly. Return to a boil; cook and stir for 3 minutes or until thickened. Remove from the heat; set aside.

2 Crumble sausage into a large nonstick skillet; add onion and fennel Cook over medium heat, stirring, until sausage is no longer pink. Add garlic; cook 1 minute longer. Drain. Stir in egg yolk and cornmeal mixture. Add bread crumbs, cranberries, parsley, vinegar, sage, savory and nutmeg.

3.Transfer to a 1-1/2-qt. baking dish coated with cooking spray. Cover and bake at 350° for 40-45 minutes or until a thermometer reads 160°.
