Union Industries blows away competition with use of virtual reality configurator

Union Industries, the UK’s leading manufacturer of bespoke industrial doors, has utilised virtual reality (VR) to help Leeds-based Met Fab Solutions maintain comfortable working conditions with the installation of a Bulldoor.

Union Industries has successfully deployed its innovative new VR software to assist Met Fab Solutions, a leading UK manufacturer of aluminium panels and aluminium pressings, specify and configure the correct door suited to its needs.

This innovative tool allows Union to immerse prospective clients in a 3D showroom where they can experience their high-speed door offerings and interact with the products in a virtual environment. The software, comprising a VR headset and handheld units representing the customer’s hands, showcases the extensive features, specifications and benefits of Union Industries’ products.

Met Fab’s powder coating facility contains an extraction unit which draws the temperature outside

of the building to keep the area cool during hotter periods. However, when windy, the extraction unit causes a wind-chill resulting in employee discomfort, hence the company’s need for a fast acting and reliable door.

The Bulldoor not only ensures the integrity of Met Fab’s facility but also significantly reduces the impact of adverse weather conditions. Operated conveniently via remote control, the door incorporates a ‘Crash-Out & Auto-Reset’ feature as a standard safety measure, minimising costs associated with door impacts.

Renowned for their reliability and efficiency, Union Industries’ doors, including the Bulldoor, have become the preferred choice for manufacturers dealing with heat loss and escalating energy prices. With a robust design requiring minimal maintenance, these doors can withstand constant high-volume operations, making them an ideal solution for industrial settings.

Rob Howe, Union Industries’ Technical Sales Engineer, said, “Once again, the Bulldoor is the first choice for

those in the manufacturing industry who aim to address heat loss and wind chill through open doorways.”

“The Bulldoor is one of our best-selling doors and has been developed by our own R&D team over the years to become the reliable workhorse that it is today. Its robust design ensures minimal maintenance and can withstand constant high-volume operations.”

“We are also thrilled with the success of our new virtual reality configuration tool. This software enables us to immerse prospective customers into our world, providing a first-hand experience of the advanced features and capabilities of our rapid roll doors.”

Steve Cockerham, managing director at Met Fab Solutions, said, “The collaboration with Union Industries has proven invaluable in addressing our specific needs.”

“In utilising the VR software, Union was able to demonstrate to us in detail how the Bulldoor was best placed to serve our specific needs and address the challenges we faced.”

“The Bulldoor has not only enhanced the integrity of our facility but has also significantly improved working conditions for our employees.”

Pumps & Valves

Redefining pumping in the biogas industry

With the UK Government’s 2050 Net-Zero targets looming, the full potential of the biogas industry is finally being realised.

With over 600 anaerobic digestion (AD) plants now operating across the country and a phenomenal biogas capacity of 2,721 megawatts, this translates to annual greenhouse gas emission cuts of 1% (with predictions of 6% by 2030 if all organic waste is treated through AD). Biomethane is therefore a solid substitute for fossil natural gas and going forward, offers a fully decarbonisation of the gas industry.

PEMO PUMPS was a resounding hit at this September’s RWM (part of ESS) Expo at the NEC, where the focus was on the importance of the circular economy. The team brought an example pump with them and were particularly interested in talking to customers from the biogas industry.

PEMO PUMPS are compliant with the European Community’s Waste Directive, through its leading OFMSW treatment phases and supply compost to agriculture and floriculture. The OFMSW treatment phases reduce unnecessary landfill waste, markedly reducing carbon footprint and contributing wholeheartedly to the circular economy.

Established in 1947 by Antonio Perissinotto, the marketleading company started with washing silica sands and later diversified into supplying pumps for the marble and granite cutting processes, chemical, wastewater treatment, steel industry, mining, filter press, oil & gas, through to ceramics and food and beverage sector, as a brand of Perissinotto SpA.

The anti-abrasive and anti-acid slurry pumps are manufactured at the cutting-edge Milan warehouse and customers can choose from 25 basic pump models, across vertical, horizontal, submersible and multi-stage versions.

With customers across 100 countries around the world, this Italian Powerhouse has enjoyed exponential growth over the decades and is happy to offer consultation around customised pumps for a variety of applications.

PEMO PUMPS are centrifugal pump pioneers, with precision-designed advanced speed motors to feed filter presses and already well established across the UK and French aggregates and stone processing applications for slurry transfers and feeding filter presses.

The focus at RWM 2023 was to create more brand awareness across the biogas and biomethane production chains, where robust pumps are routinely

used. The anti-abrasive centrifugal pumps have astounding anaerobic digestion processing capabilities, in recirculating OFMSW and provide a game-changer for the biogas industry.

The semi-open impellers and anti-clogging volutes in the pumps are conducive to the meticulous transfer of highly viscous substrates. The HARDALLY PEMO superalloy is weathering-resistant and provides supercharged flow rates up to 1,500m3/h providing long-time efficiency, without the costly maintenance of single-screw pumps.

To find out more about a fully customised pump today and a six-month testing trial period, see the website below: T +39 02 250731 www.pemopumps.com

The disaster rollout

The UK continues to fall behind on the switch to heat pumps

Inan attempt to decarbonise UK housing, the government has committed to 600,000 heat pump installations by 2028. However, Heatpumps London has revealed that the UK currently has just 412 heat pumps per 100,000 people, despite being three to four times more efficient than other heating options, such as LPG, oil, electricity, and gas boilers.

households to make the switch from gas boilers to heat pumps.

In line with low consumer demand, a significant concern lies with the lack of engineers able to retrofit UK homes which is contributing to high installation costs and long wait times. The increasing rate of heat pump adoption in the UK could create up to 55,000 new jobs, yet there are currently only around 2,000 jobs in the industry. Despite suggestions to scrap the ‘boiler tax’, the government still urge

The lack of knowledge among builders regarding heat pumps presents a significant obstacle to transitioning towards cleaner and more sustainable heating alternatives in the UK. With 56% of builders lacking sufficient information to advise on alternatives to traditional gas boilers and 44% admitting they wouldn't recommend heat pumps due to unawareness of their benefits, there is a clear gap in understanding within the construction industry.

Additionally, misconceptions among householders, such as 50% believing heat pumps are expensive to install and 11% of builders being unaware of available grants like the government's Boiler Upgrade Scheme, further hinder the adoption of heat pump technology.

Psycho Peacock embraces sustainability with new Soyang Europe materials

Manchester-based Psycho Peacock says working with ST-216 R Nightstar and ST-601 R Starlight has opened up more sustainable options for its customers

Large-format specialist graphics supplier Psycho Peacock has revealed how its use of ST-216 R Nightstar and ST-601 R Starlight fabrics from Soyang Europe is allowing the company to offer a more sustainable service to clients across a range of markets.

Based in Salford in Greater Manchester, Psycho Peacock has been providing specialist graphics to clients in the retail, events, museums, construction, and visitor attractions sectors for more than 40 years. This offering is expanded further by working with sister company Full Circle Exhibitions & Events, which focuses on event signage and branding knowledge.

For more than half of its life, Psycho Peacock has been working in partnership with Soyang Europe, drawing on

the supplier’s extensive knowledge of markets and its far-reaching product range to create a wide variety of eye-catching applications.

Psycho Peacock recently expanded this relationship by starting to work with ST-216 R Nightstar and ST-601 R Starlight, both of which are designed to provide customers with a more sustainable offering that they can then pass on to their own clients.

ST-216 R Nightstar is a wrap-knitted blockout fabric with textured surface on its front side and black coating on the back. Mainly used for dye-sublimation printing, the product offers excellent opacity, softness, bending resistance and wrinkleresistance, making it an effective solution for applications such as backdrops, pop-up displays and frame systems.

As for ST-601 R Starlight, this is a coated backlit with woven based fabric featuring a tight textured structure with a coating. This means the material does not suffer from any light leakage, which, coupled with good wrinkleresistance, makes it a popular solution for light box applications.

While their features differ, something that the two products have in common is that they are both made from recycled PET bottle yarn, offering a significant, environmentally friendly incentive for print companies and their customers.

It was this feature that particularly appealed to Andy McIntyre, General Manager of Psycho Peacock, as it aligns with the company’s own core values of sustainability and environmental responsibility.

“Choosing these sustainable materials fits seamlessly with our business goals and values,” Andrew said. “Our ESSA accreditation on the exhibition side of the business underscores our commitment to sustainable practices, including the Reconomy sustainability closed loop.

“We didn’t adopt sustainability to gain a competitive edge, but it has naturally fortified our market position. Our goal is to lead by example, encouraging the industry to adopt sustainable practices.”

Psycho Peacock primarily uses its Durst P5 TEX i-Sub printer to produce work on the two materials. While the company has only been working with these latest introductions from Soyang Europe for a short period of time, Andrew said he is already looking at how the fabrics can help Psycho Peacock move into new markets.

“We’re poised for growth and innovation,” Andrew said. “Psycho Peacock is committed to strengthening its relationship with Soyang and is continuously developing its product offerings forits esteemed clients. Together, we aim to drive the graphics and printing industry towards a more sustainable future.”

Introducing BALEiD by PAAL

We all agree the ‘cradle to grave’ material traceability is the goal that we should all be aspiring to, but bale identification has not been reliable and has depended on inefficient manual processes.

Let us introduce you to the new, patented BALEiD by PAAL system, which is set to revolutionise traceability within the industry.

Let us allow you to shake off the limitations of manual process and bring you an efficient closed loop patented system. It is now possible to generate, print and attach a label to each bale automatically and securely.

Our initial challenge was to devise the process that would automatically and securely attach the label to the bale. The patented PAAL applicator has achieved this and is linked to a label printer. With this set up it is possible to automatically generate, print and attach each label to a bale that shows whatever relevant information is contained within the baler control system.

We appreciate a huge amount of work and effort goes into producing a bale and now for the first time BALEiD by PAAL enables the complete picture to be captured in a convenient label. Not only will this system capture the fundamentals such as date/time/location and material type, it can also track each bale individually for shipments.

Let us open up a world of opportunities for your waste management system, by attaching a label (containing a unique RFID chip) to each bale you would be able to automatically record, monitor and control your bale output with valuable information, for example:

t Date and location where the bale is produced

t Precise weight of bale

t Purity of material

t Storage location and shipment onto truck.

By implementing the BALEiD by PAAL you can eliminate the rejection of material (by the end processor) which is hugely costly and disruptive, any such risks are addressed prior to despatch.

The scanning of the RFID tags on the bales, the end processor receives, updates the RFID

database. This results in the provision of evidence for the recycler that the material has been processed in a certain way, giving the necessary ‘cradle to grave’ traceability.

Our priorities are changing, driving today’s standards and business practices. Closed loop recycling is at the heart of today’s circular economy demonstrating a strong commitment to sustainability. Adhering to environmental regulations is crucial, closed loop recycling helps businesses stay compliant with waste management and sustainability regulations.

Let us take you to the next stage of waste management efficiency, let us maximise your potential with BALEiD by PAAL.

Join us at RWM Show September 11th and 12th, Stand ME-A90 where we will be demonstrating BALEiD by PAAL.

Eurocell calls on industry to review PVC-U recycling

Eurocell is attending this year’s Resource & Waste Management Expo (RWM) and is calling organisations across the construction supply chain, from councils to waste management businesses, to review their PVC-U recycling to minimise waste being sent to landfill.

Eurocell has secured a significant space at the show, located on Stand RS-F82 opposite the Circular Economy & Sustainable Theatre. Here it will demonstrate to visitors its closed-loop recycling system and showcase the substantial progress it has made in using recycled materials in the design and manufacture of its PVC-U building products.

Speaking ahead of the show, which takes place in Birmingham at the NEC from September 11th12th, Sandra Gaspar, Head of Recycling at Eurocell, explains why a collaborative approach right across the construction supply chain, is the only way the industry can continue to make progress on recycling PVC-U. She said, “As confidence returns to the construction and home improvement market, it means we should see

an increase in activity and therefore a rise in old PVC-U building products being removed from properties and in need of recycling. Now is the right time for organisations to review their recycling processes for PVC-U.”

“We need to work together to save waste PVC-U going to landfill, helping to reduce CO2 emissions and the impact of our industry on the environment. This includes from councils, construction companies and waste management through to demolitions businesses, commercial contractors and even skip hire companies.”

Eurocell facilitates efficient PVC-U recycling for window and door installers and fabricators as well as other building and construction businesses all over the UK.

It offers reliable and timely collections from any premise or UK site and ensures that PVC-U waste is managed responsibly. The service includes all aspects of waste management, from collection and transport to documentation, with waste transfer notes provided to demonstrate responsible handling.

Sandra adds; “PVC-U can be repurposed up to 10 times without compromising its quality. It’s an impressively durable and long-lasting material, and as an industry we need to recycle as much as we can. Eurocell is well placed to support the industry in its efforts.”

Eurocell’s dedication to sustainability is demonstrated through its innovative manufacturing processes, where its profiles division blends raw PVC resin with recycled materials sourced from the company’s cutting-edge recycling plants located in Selby, North Yorkshire, and Ilkeston, Derbyshire.

Soyang Europe builds sustainable future for customers with Reconomy

Soyang Europe has been working with Reconomy to offer customers access to environmentally focused and responsible waste management services

International circular economy specialist Reconomy has revealed how its relationship with wide-format and superwide-format media manufacturer and distributor Soyang Europe is helping UK print service providers to improve their environmental credentials.

Reconomy combines technology and skills to enable businesses to better manage their resources, helping to reduce waste, optimise their supply chains, and contribute in a meaningful way towards the circular economy.

While this involves working directly with print companies, Reconomy is also partnered with several leading manufacturers and distributors, supporting their customers with textile waste management. One such partnership is with Soyang Europe, whereby printers using materials from Soyang Europe can responsibly dispose of their waste.

This partnership came about three years ago with the support of FESPA UK. Reconomy was working on various sustainability initiatives with FESPA, while Soyang Europe is a long-term member of the association.

The process works with Reconomy providing customers with a baler to prepare their textile waste. Soyang Europe then collects the bales when delivering new products to customers, with the waste taken to its facility in Altham in Lancashire ready for bulk collection and transportation to a recycling facility for processing.

“It was a perfect fit,” said Reconomy Director, Jon Hutton. “Soyang has always been proactive in wanting to offer their customers, and the wider industry, waste management solutions for their products.

“Sustainability is a hot topic for several reasons. Brands and consumers are looking down the supply chain for environmental credentials, so it’s therefore a driving factor in how to not only maintain and gain business, but how a printer positions themselves for the long term.”

Mark Mashiter, Managing Director at Soyang Europe, added, “It provides our customers with an outlet for their waste. This works well with local customers when we deliver orders to them; we can bring any textile bales back with us and store them in our yard until they are collected.”

Renewable energy and recycling materials

Originally, Reconomy had sourced a solution for recycling PVC banner and polyester fabrics at a UK site, whereby waste was blended with other polymers to produce low grade products. While this process ended when more desirable material

became available to the market, a recovery route was soon set up and, with the support of Wheeldon Brothers, waste could now be diverted from landfill to renewable energy.

However, recycling has since been re-established and material is again being used in manufacturing processes. Coupled with its use for renewable energy, all of this is helping work towards a circular economy.

An additional benefit to the service is that Soyang Europe is willing to take other supplier’s waste textiles along with its own. This option is available to customers using their own transport within a set radius of Soyang Europe’s facility and when making deliveries.

“Soyang Europe wants to be part of the environmental solution and not the problem,” Jon said. “The take-back scheme provides a platform for printers to demonstrate their sustainability by providing customers with an outlet for their recycling waste.

“Several customers have engaged with Reconomy further and are now collecting their own clients’ end-of-campaign textiles, integrating this with the collection of their materials. All loads are tracked, and Certificates of Recycling can be issued once the material has been processed.”

The work does not stop here for Reconomy, with Jon saying the company will continue to work with Soyang Europe, FESPA UK and its wider membership base to provide more sustainable solutions to the UK industry.

“It’s our aim to continue to be a driving force in educating the industry on the importance of recycling & developing circular economies,” Jon said. “This, with the continued support of Soyang Europe, will ensure more customers take up this service.”

Union Industries rises to the challenge with triple Bulldoor installation at Warburtons

Union Industries, the UK’s leading manufacturer of bespoke high-speed doors, has helped Britain’s largest bakery brand overcome adverse weather conditions with the installation of three Bulldoors.

Led by the fifth generation of the Warburton family, the company approached Union to assist in combating strong winds at its Burnley site, which already has a Bulldoor as well as two Matadoors from the range.

It first approached Union Industries in 2004 to install a Bulldoor, which continues to operate effectively and efficiently two decades later.

Union’s Bulldoors are often regarded as the ‘reliable workhorse’ of rapid roll doors and are known to perform more than 1.4 million cycles per year, making it a popular choice across multiple sectors. They feature specialist ‘CrashOut’ and ‘Auto-Reset’ damage protection facilities, and offer control outputs for options such as airlocks, traffic control systems and remote monitoring, whilst aiding temperature control for ambient and chilled environments.

The market-leading, bespoke, high-speed roller doors help to prevent the severe drop

of ambient temperature in buildings, especially evident in the winter months, eliminating any potential impact on production environments.

Steve Moultrie, Technical Sales Engineer at Union Industries, said, “This collaboration marks the continuation of a longstanding partnership between Union Industries and Warburtons, dating back 20 years, which is testament to our dedication to durability and quality craftsmanship.”

“We are proud to have provided Warburtons with a reliable solution to their operational challenges. Our doors are engineered to perform in demanding environments, ensuring continuous productivity and efficiency.”

Ryan Seddon, Asset Care Lead at Warburtons, said, “The triple Bulldoor installation has

significantly improved our warehouse operations, particularly during adverse weather conditions. Union Industries’ doors are incomparable to any other doors we have installed, and their commitment to quality and innovation has made them a valued partner in our supply chain.”

TIMCON President says government re-use incentive is a must after latest missed climate targets

The Timber Packaging & Pallet Confederation (TIMCON) says discussions with DEFRA on the implementation of a re-use incentive scheme for wooden packaging have been “extremely positive.”

The organisation, together with other wood product associations, have been campaigning for a re-use initiative with two central aims: to maximise the re-use of wooden pallets and packaging in supply chains and support the development of a circular economy.

The Scottish government this week cancelled its target of reducing greenhouse gases by 75% by 2030, having missed eight of its last 12 annual climate goals. It is the latest organisation to soften flagship environmental objectives, with both the Conservative and Labour party having made U-turns on key policies in the past year.

TIMCON President, John Dye, said incentivising re-use was now a must to help maintaining progress towards net zero and sending out the positive messages to the UK public.

TIMCON has collaborated with other wood-based sectors and submitted a proposal to DEFRA to introduce a workable re-use framework as part of a Proposed Reuse Incentive Scheme document. The document has two goals: to maximise the

number of times wooden packaging is re-used before, ultimately, it is recycled; and to increase the use of wooden transport tools – including pallets, cases, crates, cable reels, and so on – in domestic and international supply chains.

The re-use framework includes information on how re-use should be incentivised, measured, and recorded; how supply chain users can recognise a re-useable pallet; how to ensure pallets are recycled at the end of their useful life; where obligations for re-use lie; and several other recommendations.

Dye said, “In our proposed Re-use Incentive Scheme we have set out a workable framework for re-using wooden pallets and packaging and shown how this can be implemented. We are strongly recommending that government progresses this straightforward, easy-toimplement initiative to support its plans to reduce greenhouse gases by 100% by 2050.

“Our recent discussions with DEFRA on when

and how such a scheme can be implemented have been extremely positive.

“Wood packaging material (WPM) manufacturing and repair businesses are inherently founded on principles of circularity. They manufacture products from sustainably managed trees, which means for every one that is harvested, more are grown in their place.

“They then repair and re-use pallets until they are ready to be recycled into other products – from chipboard to animal bedding. Their business model is sustainable from start to finish.

“Encouraging these industries will, in turn, boost demand for tree planting, provide a solid foundation for our circular economy, and make a sizeable contribution to achieving the government’s 2050 targets.”

Beat the new plastic tax: Reduce plastic and lower costs with Lock N Pop pallet stabilisation

Gransden UK, formally known as Lock N Pop UK Ltd, is the sole UK and Ireland distributor of the Lock N Pop pallet stabilisation systems, primarily known for reducing plastic pallet wrap and enhancing pallet stabilisation. The UK based company has been supplying the Lock N Pop solution to customers across the industrial and food and beverage applications for over 25 years.

Director, Duncan Potter, said, “We specialise in the Lock N Pop technology which is a water-based cohesive used for pallet stabilisation, applied on the production line prior to goods palletisation. We provide everything: machines, cohesive and fullservice support, with service engineers stationed around the country.”

“We are always interested in talking to customers using robotic or automatic layer palletisation at the end of production processes. Our solution works well with boxes, shrink wrap packs or sacks. We specialise in all products but have seen a real

increase in the last 18 months from customers palletising bagged products, often animal feed, chemical or industrial products such as cement bags.”

With the UK Government’s 2050 net-zero targets and a greater push towards the circular economy, all eyes are on sustainable best practices.

With this in mind, Lock N Pop is seen as the sustainable solution of choice across the industry for the following reasons:

● Lock N Pop reduces the need for plastic pallet wrap

● Cost-effective under the new UK Plastic Tax (Plastic Packaging Tax PPT): introduced in April 2022

● The definitive environmentally-friendly solution: cold, water-based and plastic-free

● Contains no hazardous, heated components or plastic consumables.

The Lock N Pop pallet stabilisation solution simply saves money by removing the costs associated with

palletised goods moving or collapsing in transit to endcustomers. The primary focus on streamlined production process efficiency and the end transit journey to high street shelf, distribution centre or even across international waters or airspace has been paramount and has afforded Lock N Pop gold-standard industry recognition.

Lock N Pop pallet stabilisation uses a cold, water based cohesive, that is carefully applied inline to the cases, bags, shrink-wrap trays etc. immediately before palletisation. The cohesive has high shear strength characteristics which binds the products together, resulting in a stable pallet. However, the additional bonus is that the cohesive combines this high shear strength with a low tensile strength, meaning that the items can easily be separated.

Hultsteins in cool US/ UK sustainability swap

Hultsteins has teamed up with US renewables specialist Green Road Energy in a move to bring each company’s carbon and cost saving transport solutions to both sides of the Atlantic.

Green Road’s TAG (turbine auxiliary generator) system is fast becoming popular with fleet operators in the US. Mounted to the trailer chassis and using simple wind-turbine technology, the system bypasses the alternator and engine to generate electricity for tail lifts, fridge units, lighting and auxiliary batteries.

The TAG system comes in different sizes and different generating capacities. It is maintenance free and can be fitted to all makes and models of rigids and trailers.

Meanwhile, Hultsteins’ ecogen2 is designed specifically to bypass the diesel engine on all conventional trailer refrigeration units. It is a slim-fit hydraulic drive generator, which plugs in to any marque of TRU to supply constant 400-volt, 3-phase electrical power, even at idle.

Connected to the tractor’s PTO, ecogen2 draws power directly from the tractor engine. The energy produced powers the trailer’s refrigeration unit on electric standby during transit, all the while reducing CO2 by around 90%, DPM by 98% and NOx by X 2.5. Thereby, virtually eliminating all harmful diesel emissions and permanently keeping costs down.

“Both these energy efficient systems are easy to retrofit and use inexpensive, basic technologies to reduce running costs and slash harmful emissions,” says Hultsteins’ UK Managing Director Graham Usher.

Nexus Vehicle Rental

Technology in B2B vehicle rental is something that has been largely lacking over the years, but here at Nexus we have been dedicating our expertise and investment to develop a total vehicle rental and plant hire solution – iris®, a platform that seamlessly and effortlessly connects businesses with vehicles and suppliers with customers.

But what deters other companies from adopting newer technology across the fleet rental industry?

The main stumbling block is likely the high upfront cost of implementing advanced technologies. With the hardware, software, system integration and employee training, many cannot afford these costs. iris® easily integrates with a number of existing

legacy systems, making the road to advanced tech simple for customers and suppliers.

There is also the expectations of customers to consider. Technological advancements go hand in hand with price, vehicle availability and convenience, and lead to an enhanced and more positive experience for customers and suppliers alike.

At Nexus, we are dedicated to being at the forefront of tech-led innovations, and our teams are constantly moving iris® forward, tirelessly evolving its capabilities to develop suppliers and customers’ potential.

Print & Packaging

Join Rotech, the TIJ experts, at PPMA 2024

Rotech Machines, a pioneer in thermal inkjet technology, is excited to announce that they will be exhibiting at this year’s PPMA Show, taking place from 24th26th September 2024 at the NEC in Birmingham.

Well known for their customer-led solutions, Rotech will be at Stand A31, ready to showcase their unparalleled range of printers and demonstrate their expertise and knowledge of the increasingly popular coding technology.

Over 20 years of innovation in thermal inkjet technology

More than two decades ago, Rotech recognised the potential of thermal inkjet (TIJ) in the packaging industry. Since then, they have been advocating its benefits-clean operation, maintenance-free functionality and ability to produce excellent quality prints.

The evolution of TIJ technology took a significant leap forward around 2008 with the development of inks that adhere to standard packaging materials. Rotech was at the forefront, implementing some of the first installations for printing on blister pack foil and flow-wrapper films.

Expertise and industry-leading support This leap forward in capability has led to many other companies adopting the technology as part of their product ranges, with varying levels of knowledge and aftercare.

“Although we all agree that the technology is an excellent choice for various applications, when not installed correctly, or not supported by a knowledgeable team, it could easily be labelled with the same negativity associated with more expensive, service hungry and unreliable technologies.” says Steve Ryan, Sales Manager at Rotech. “This is where Rotech excel, we have industry leading knowledge, extensive experience with installing and supporting these systems across an array of different industry sectors and can provide a full range of system options.”

Trusted across the UK

With over 1,000 UK installations under their belts, Rotech are well trusted by

manufacturers spanning a wide range of industry sectors. They maintain their position as a first-class supplier of the technology by constantly evolving their install techniques based on extensive industry experience.

Rotech invites manufacturers to engage with their coding experts to discuss unique challenges related to late-stage product customisation. “Our expertise lies in the correct application of TIJ technology to meet customer needs, from printer and ink selection to installation and interfacing,” explained Richard Pether, General Manager at Rotech. “Acquiring a printer is easy; getting it to work to its maximum advantage takes expertise.”

Solutions for offline coding

Also at the forefront of the Rotech stand, will be a selection of their UK designed and built feeding systems, for applying variable information to packaging off-line.

These feeders are manufactured to handle a variety of flat-form substrates with ease. When paired with a printer and/or labeller, they reliably print and/ or label at high speeds, offering a costeffective solution for coding away from the main production line.

Among the showcased products will be the entry-level RF Lite, a low-cost solution for automating date coding processes, and the newly redesigned RF Auto, a heavy-duty feeder capable of handling products of varying thicknesses. Both systems can be seamlessly integrated with TIJ coders to provide a complete standalone solution.
